Ha! Rhuul is awesome! Even though I'm only missing a couple after that, I'll still use one charge from my wand (if someone doesn't mind). If I get killed because I'm missing a few HP I'll be mad at myself. But you saved me a wand charge!

Haltani, what do you make of this? The creature seemed to be trying to get to you. It seems you have the misfortune of making enemies, through no doing of your own.

It's moot now, but for future reference--I believe (with the exception of speaking) that you can only perform free actions on your own turn. So the undead couldn't have grabbed Rhuul as part of the AoO. But we're all alive, so no harm no foul!

Only thing I am aware of; Free actions consume a very small amount of time and effort. You can perform one or more free actions while taking another action normally. However, there are reasonable limits on what you can really do for free, as decided by the GM.. Dead dwarf took an action, so could take the free action..I might be wrong, but this is what I know

Scarab Sages

Rowanna is only able to confirm that the axe is magical, while Variel is able to tell that there isn't anything special about it (just a plain +1 dwarven waraxe) while Rhuul heals the party..but mostly himself.

I've no interest in the axe, but...perhaps the restless spirits within would be appeased if it fell into dwarf hands, the half-elf says, gesturing to the axe and Rhuul.

Zuriel then stows his flail and retrieves his bardiche, nodding in response to Evenstar's question.

He shivers and adjusts his hood over his head.

So the door south of Variel's current position (maybe swap him and Evenstar first?), then move into the dwarf's room and search those two doors.

I trades our spots. Let's try that door just south of us first.

Scarab Sages

The south door from your present location opens up in what's now a rather small room, which opens up into a rather large hole.

Deciding to keep exploring it further you use some impressive acrobatics to move around the walls that's left behind to gain entrance further down the ruins to find out that these are what's left of some living quarters. They are mostly intact, but contain nothing of value or interest to you. After a few such rooms you come to a collapsed section of wall and are unable to continue.

Returning to the hallway you decide to take a look what's behind the doors in the room where the dwarf burst free from the ice he was encased in to quickly discover that similar empty rooms are behind both of them.

As you move through the room exploring them carefully "Haltani" moves along with you, sometime taking out a piece of paper and making some notes and doing a rough sketch of the area to map it out.

Before leaving the room, Rhuul performs what dwarven funeral rites he knows.

"I'm not priest, but I like to think his gods respect him for staying behind to look for his son. It's a pity this happened to him. And a warning to us all...something did this to the dwarven city, and something or someone else moved the whole area. That must be the missing "cylinder" over there..." he gestures.

"I hope no foulness was done in that move."

He takes the axe, slinging it next to his own.

He looks at Haltani.

"Do you know ought of the history of this place?" he asks, looking at the map she is making.

"You'd make a good pathfinder you know. Taking notes and exploring. It is what we do. "

Yes, I think you're right. But wouldn't the king keep the sky key shard on his person? Do you think his son had it when he fled, or did the sorcerer spirit it away with the rest of the survivors? I don't want to return empty-handed.

The dancing lights don't cause a reaction from down the hole but as they move around down there Variel quickly senses some movement behind you. As you turn around you see;

You notice a group of individuals standing between you and the way out.

There are a human guard on a horse, a green skinned troll and a pale skinned, blue eyed, blond haired woman wearing a courtiers outfit studded with jewelry which looks entirely inadequate for protection someone from the cold, even though it doesn't seem to bother her in the least. They are acompanied by a large white furred wolf - who doesn't seem to happy to see you (again).

As she sees you the woman speaks up tapping her hand with a slender wand held in her other hand;
"I demand to know who are you are what you are doing! Hand over the woman you have with you into my custody and lay down your weapons and surrender or face the consequences."

At this point "Haltani" pushes her way past you to stand in front of your group and between you and the others

"Leave them alone Kiryena. They are not holding me against my will. These are good people."

The wolf growls in your general direction while the man standing behind it levels the tip of his lance your way, while he looks over his shoulder to take instructions from the woman.

Rhuul, still somewhat sore from his previous encounter with the undead thinks twice before speaking. Still, he is a dwarf with a big mouth and has a hard time keeping it shut.

"I don't think this is a question of them rescuing you 'Haltani' I'm guessing this is your sister?"

He looks at Kiryena. "The one who tried to kill the folk of Whiterock while disguised as you if my guess strikes close to the truth."

His gaze turns stern.

"Haltani, for so I name her, has been helpful to us. We wish you and your companions no ill. You can know that from us leaving your fine canine friend alive. We didn't give her over to him, so why do you think we would give her over to you? What is it you want with her anyway?"

His words are tough, but there is no malice in them. Mostly Rhuul looks like he wants to bargin.

The woman taps the tip of her wand against her chin and seems to consider the words being spoken

"Well..it's clear that she is free to do what ever she likes ..so it's obvious that you are not holding her against her will. And even though I personally do not like that her very much, she is a free person who can do what ever she feels like. I'm sure her mother will deal with her in what ever manner she sees fitting. There is no reason for us to comes to blows about it here and now"

The woman nods at "Haltani" and motions for the others with her to follow her as she turns around and moves away.

The wolf turns his head and growls at Evenstar as it back away..but it leaves along with the others.

Scarab Sages

Assuming nobody decides to attack the leaving party as they depart;

After the invading party has left

"Halatani" turns towards you and smiles

"That was exciting, not just that last encounter..but exploring these ruins, talking to the Ulfen leader..even traveling for days by boat talking to you about your previous explorations and past experiences..if that is what the life of Pathfinder is all about, I'd like to sign up to join your Society"

We would be honored to have you, as both a fellow Pathfinder and friend. Would you mind leading us back to the ship? We need to report our findings to our superiors, and escape this unrelenting cold. "There are many factions within the Pathfinder society. You would be free to join any. But first there are things to do...here for example we can examine the area that was removed. "

Yes, you've explored everything in the ruins

"Joining the Pathfinder Society would be nice..but I'm not so sure about this Faction you mention..let me think about it"

You go down in the hole and take a look around, but discover that there is well..nothing down there and most of the sides have collapsed and are frozen over
There's nothing to explore past what's on that map..and what's on the map isn't that much either. And as OOC knowledge..it's inside the Hao-Jin tapestry, which you can conclude from the Dwarven journal, assuming your character has ever heard of the Hao-Jin tapestry

Variel helps the dwarf on their way back.

Scarab Sages

After you give the dead dwarf a proper burial you make the journey back to the city where you warm up a bit in a tavern before preparing to head back to report to the Venture-Captain.

The journey from Dalun to Kalsgard proceeds without incident. Once you return to the Grinning Pixie, Venture-Captain Benarry initially expresses disappointment that you did not recover a piece of the Sky Key, her chagrin quickly turns to excitement as she reads through Vargrim’s journal.

Venture-Captain Benarry’s face breaks into a wide smirk, and she laughs heartily. “To think, Naldak’s piece of the Sky Key has been in the Hao Jin tapestry all along! Well, easy enough. I’ll just have to have a chat with the Master of Spells about sending a group of agents in to pick it up. The tapestry is vast, and we never would have known where to look it weren’t for you. To top that off, studying the section of Naldak’s Point that Hao Jin’s magic narrowly missed ripping out of Golarion could teach us more about the tapestry itself. Well done, Pathfinders!”

"Haltani" will act as a contact in Irrisen and The Society considers training her as a Pathfinder if they can get Baroness Nadya’s approval. Venture-Captain Benarry thanks the PCs for finding the Pathfinder Society “a new ally in an unforgiving country.” Benarry uses her network of contacts to keep in touch with Uliyara, trading books on customs of the Inner Sea for news from Irrisen.
