"I don't mind at all", Dylara replies to Traceni. She smiles widely when Traceni comments on Melon's beauty.
"My parents are birdkeepers, and collect all kinds of birds. For my fourteenth birthday my father gave me this huge egg, larger than Lizzy here." She points at Beads. "When the egg hatched there was the cutest baby bird I'd ever seen, be it a bit large. Melon's about as large as I am now, but father said she'll continue to grow. He also said when Melon's large enough, she'll be able to carry me while flying."

Malleck laughed. It sure was a bit of a thing with similar names. At his cabin he turns to the first officer
"Is there a chance that I may be able to meet some of the crew? I hear sailor ladies can be quite the handful"

Mallic, having not been introduced, seems confused. "Err right.... It'd be best if you wait until we are out of the harbor before you get to moving about. A lot of jobs to get done now that everyone is back a'board. But the first mate does give you the doc's location for when he's not needed to help sail. "You can meet all the crew when their not busy sailing. Maybe this is yer first sea voyage. There will be plenty of time with nothing to do, but when there's work there loads of it."

![]() |

The tiefling nods
"I understand." he smirks as he puts out a paw "My name is Malleck by the way"
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

"And I'm Dylara." She copies Malleck and puts out a hand. "And this beautiful birdy here is my best friend, Melon."
So this put-out-your-hand thing is part of social interaction? Interesting.

![]() |

Branson will look to Mallick and states, I am not a sailor, although I would be willing to learn. I believe that swabbing the deck and cleaning is usually the place to start, so once we are out of port, can I be provided with some cleaning supplies and such, so I can set to work?
Turning towards his companions, he continues, My friends, I trust that you will not mind if I accompany you to meet with the ship's healer? I am, of course, always anxious to learn new ways of practicing the healer's craft, and I am sure that medicine aboard a ship such as this has solutions for problems I am not usually faced with. Not to mention, that if he does have thoughts on watching over your bird, I would be glad to learn those techniques as well. Continuing on, he opines, and afterwards, perhaps we should check in on Sephriel and his party afterwards, and ensure they are well settled?

![]() |

With a curtsey the Varisian introduces herself.
"How do you do? My name is Traceni Skrit. And yes, maybe this is my first sea voyage. I'd be in your debt if you could show me around, let me know how I may be of assistance."
Diplomacy check: Take 10, get 18.

Lizzy looks at Mallic with a smile.
"Hello mr Mallic. I may be small and not as muscular for the heavy tasks on the ship, but i do great impersonations and i can sing or tell stories to entertain the crew."
Hearing what Branson said, she agrees.
"Uhuh..."
Right, the paper said i had to give the message to Sephriel's bodyguard. Neat.

![]() |

So then, off to the ship's doctor shall we? Do we know where he is?, so saying Branson looks to his companions and nods towards whatever direction seems most likely to lead towards the doctor [if one exists].

Killik is not in the crew's cabin when you first check, but within the hour the party finds him there. No one else is here, though there are bunks with a footlocker for the crew. The healer lays on his bunk staring into space.
"K" (Killick) on the map is the crew's quarters. Please add yourself to the map.

![]() |

"Hello?" Dylara knocks before entering the room where Killick is. "I heard you're Killick, the ship's medic? I'm Dylara and this girl here is my best friend, Melon." She points at Melon.

Traceni regards Killik quizzically, saying merely, "Oh."

She approaches Killik, staring up into the space where he looks. Concerned, she turns back to him and adds, "That is a heavy weight."

Malleck waits patiently. It was a long trip. No use to rush things now. Otherwise he will get bored. And him being bored he knew was not the best thing in the world

Killik offers an uninterested glance at the newcomers. Then he returns staring into space. "Busy" is all the human says.

![]() |

Traceni turns to the others. "We should let him do his work."
She then lies on the floor next to Killik's bunk and joins him in staring into space.

![]() |

Branson watches Traceni for a moment, and looks to Killik, greetings friend! I notice that you are a supplicant to the Pirate Queen, which should not come as a a surprise to any, as she is worthy of worship for any who would cross her watery domain. I am, nonetheless, somewhat ignorant of her particular rites and customs, and would not wish to offend you, or her, in any way. However, I am at your service if I can be of any assistance. I am Branson, and I pay my primary allegiance to Korada, however I respect the other gods, including Your Lady of the Seas.

The cleric looks askance at Branson and at the staring Traceni. Not sure if he is being mocked he says, "I've got nothin' for you 'nless you've got somethin' for me."

![]() |

Traceni continues looking into space while replying, "I just thought you might prefer some peace and quiet. My apologies, I always prefer to pray this way, myself."
With a wry smile, her eyes never leaving the ceiling, she adds, "What would you like?"

![]() |

"If there's anything you want," Dylara says as she steps closer. "tell me. I might be able to 'smuggle' it into your cabin, haha!"

![]() |

Melon jumps on top of one of the beds. She turns in a circle, and lies herself down with her head on the pillow while staring at Dylara.

![]() |

Indeed, the Lady Dylara has concerns about the health and wellbeing of her bird, and she has concerns that I may be unable to keep him healthy. She was hoping that you had a greater knowledge of avian physiology, and it was my hope that you could also impart this knowledge on me, so that I too can be prepared to treat creatures such as Melon here?

Venture Teller Play b'Post |

Killick looks at the bird. Then he unfolds a red bandanna and places it on the corner of his bunk. He lies back down and continues staring.
After a moment he says, "Every minute I'm helping you is a minute I'm not doing something more...." He leaves the sentence at that and returns to staring into space.

![]() |

"Is there something that bothers you, Killick? Can I do something to help you? You do realize you're not being very productive now at all, lying on your bed? You're not exactly helping us right now..."

Noting the interactions but trying not to contribute to Killick's distractions, Traceni whispers a silent prayer and waves her hands over her eyes. She stands to face Dylara and Branson.
"Come, we shouldn't bother Killick further. Dylara, there may be another who would know more about the roc aboard this ship. We should speak to Killick at another time. This is not the time."
Traceni casts detect magic to detect any magical communication between Killick and some other unseen force. She is also interested in the red bandanna; what does that represent? Is Killick praying for spells?

Dylara takes a sheet of parchment, black ink and an inkpen out of her backpack, and sits herself down with her back to the wall. When Dylara's done she folds the sheet, stands up and tucks it in Killick's hands.
"You once served aboard a very successful slaving vessel out of the Katapeshi port of Okeno.
I'd like information from you regarding smuggling in and out of this important city.
I'll give you a gold for it."
"Is this enough to help you? If not, tell me what is." Dylara asks Killick with a smile. "I'd like to know more about medicines for Melon, we're not used to the sea."

![]() |

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Any coin in that sheet of Dylara's?
Traceni shakes her head. "You know what will help him, but this line of inquiry will have to wait. But, since we are discussing the passing of notes..."
Traceni reaches for something on her hip, finds it empty, feels around, and looks genuinely surprised to find a coin purse in her undergarments. She pulls out 5gp and drops it into the folds of the red bandanna. "Allow me to give you my tithe, may she grant us a fruitful voyage."

The cleric looks at the note and then at Dylara. He squints hard hoping to see some detail in her appearance. "What you tryin' to do, trip an innocent man up?"
He stops questioning the half-elf when Traceni makes a contribution. Again he stares closely at the person before him. He notes Malek and Brannock as well and finally nods. "Ach, that'll 'bout do it for you, but what about the rest of you? I don't run no charity for the Pirate Queen."
The man now sits up, you have his attention. "That goes double for the bird."
Let me know if you have questions as we go along. PBP can be difficult for this kind of encounter :)

"I just want the information. Think about my offer, and tomorrow I'll return." Dylara takes the sheet of parchment from Killick, and puts it inside her coat.
Dylara stands up and puts away the ink and inkpen, then looks at Killick again. "Before I leave, do you happen to know if there's someone who likes exotic animals on this ship? And where I might find that person? My parents are birdkeepers, and I will one day inherit their company. As you can see," she motions at Melon, "I have a love for exotic birds."

Venture Teller Play b'Post |

Killick refuses to answer Dylara's question, noting by nods, winks, 'ahems' and other signals, that the red bandana only has one 'tithing'.
Killick is only willing to give Traceni any of his 'valuable' time.

![]() |

With a beatific smile, Traceni responds, "Branson and Malleck, perhaps you should escort Dylara and Melon to meet with our charge. I shall follow shortly. Let's not bother such a busy and important man more than we have to."
She absentmindedly lays a hand on Dylara's arm. "Is there anything I should contemplate in communion, my dear?"

![]() |

Umm, yes, if you say so, very well and he looks to Dylara and Malleck, will you accompany me to go and check on Sephriel? As Branson heads off towards Sephriel's he can be heard mumbling strange woman, strange faith, just strange all the way around.

Venture Teller Play b'Post |

Sephriel has taken over the first mate's cabin on the same deck as the crews quarters. The first mate was none too happy about this as it was apparent when he pointed the cabin out.
Sephriel's body guard stands outside the door. T & S on the map.
Traceni, Kellick is willing to speak with you, what would you like to ask?

![]() |

Branson (I believe followed by Lizzy and possibly Malleck?) will head on to Sephriel's cabin. When we arrive, Branson will encourage one (both?) of his two companions to go in and check on him, saying something like Obviously I am not that good with people, as witnessed by my failures back there with the doctor, perhaps you should go in and check on Sephriel. Make sure he is comfortable and if there is anything we can do for him. I'll wait out here within earshot, call me if you need me.

As Dylara leaves, Traceni's demeanor shifts from the spaced-out mystic she has been to a down-to-earth businesswoman. "Thank you for taking the time to speak with me. My people occasionally find ourselves needing to bring specific items into and out of Magnimar in such a way that the official records will not report the movement. I am positive that your expertise has a number of ways by which this would happen. If you are able to provide at least one effective way to transport items into and out of Magnimar without alerting the authorities, then we will continue to see you as a valuable resource worthy of additional donations for similar insights."
As long as the answer goes well, Traceni slides over an additional 10gp to Killik and adds, "My thanks, and as an example of how easily and rewardingly we can work together, all I ask for now is some information. If you felt so inclined as to actually help the bird-woman with her request and offer, what would you have done and said?"
Assuming a satisfactory answer, Traceni finishes, "You have my thanks and the thanks of thousands. I gladly count you among our friends. And we always protect our friends. Do not worry, friend, for even now, this will not be traced back to you." Her eyes defocus and her hard expression falls back to the little girl lost of before. "As a follower of the Lost Prince, I often find myself forgetting things..."
She flashes Killik a conspriatorial smile before leaving.

Lizzy took off a littlesooner than the other(s), Upon arriving at Sephriel's quarters, Lizzy looks up at the stationed bodyguard.
"Hello mister, down here please."
The guy looking down..
"Hello. I'm a Lizzy. I'm a bard and i just joined up for the journey.
There is a story i would share with you."
@GM, her story to the bodyguard
How mysterious a lore,
of a great ruined shore.
Grander than any city hall,
it's glory should be shared by all.
The expedition's chief shares a thought,
be opened up it to be aught.
Mysteries of ages past,
should be unveiled after so long at last.
One knows of what i tell,
the chief shares one's feeling well.
She meaningfully looks at the man, silently making the word Azlant and Hezrel on her lips.
"Do you like the tale mister?
May i also ask mister Sephriel a question?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
If he will allow it, the following
Lizzy knocks at the door. "Hello mister Zephriel. My name's Lizzy and i'm with the explorer's group who came along. Is there anything we can do for you? We have a pet bird with us and i can tell stories and sing, should you wish for happy distraction."

![]() |

"Perhaps we can talk later?" Dylara whispers to Traceni. "I have a feeling we're out for the same information."
Dylara shakes her head at Branson's request. "I have to ask the first mate some things about the voyage." Dylara then walks to where the party left first mate Mallick earlier.
When she arrives in the room where the party last saw first mate Mallick, Dylara walks up to him. "Do you happen to have anyone with knowledge of exotic animals on this ship?" Dylara points at Melon. "I'd be very interested to learn more about other exotic species."

Venture Teller Play b'Post |

Outside the door stands a tall elf, he has an impressive curved blade by his side. As the party approaches he rests a hand on the hilt. He is wary but polite as the Pathfinders introduce themselves. He listens to Lizzy's story and laughs. "Well met then Pathfinders. Yes I enjoyed your story. My name is Thanzeril, and I have been Sephriel's body guard for two years. I appreciate the extra help you offer. Personally I think the only threat comes from this unruly crew, but the sea hides many dangers in its deep expanses."
"He does not wish to be disturbed for the duration of the voyage however."
Meanwhile back in the crew's quarters...
EDIT:

![]() |

Branson shrugs, but then turns to the elf, i trust that Sephriel is well? I could provide some herbs to allay seasickness if needed. In any event, it is a custom among my people to present gifts to certain friends, particularly those who would see the secrets of the ancients explored, and made available to modern man, and of course elves. Speaking for myself, as well as the Ruby Prince, and the Society, we all share this goal, which of course was the goal of your master's mission on this trip. Please accept this trinket as a symbol of our mutual goals, and with a gentle bow, Branson presents Thanzeril with a small cabochon.
