Taika displays no grief over the falling of the two oni: they are evil creatures from another plane, and do not require the same forbearance-- in her mind-- as mortals.
"The web will stay for a good half hour," Taika says of the wriggling tengu. "Unless I dismiss it first, which I can do. It's not a terribly strong web-- some of them may free themselves. I suggest we simply hold position-- they're don't seem equipped to attack us at a distance, and those that do escape will have to decide whether to foolishly attack us now that the oni have fallen, or to prudently resume their seats. In the meantime we may heal and see what other threats present themselves?"

"Your bleeding again Eramos!" Braxus says with a laugh "You cut yerself shaving with that big ol' blade of yours? Want to switch with me for a bit?" he chuckles as he spins his heavy earthbreaker in his grip. In his other hand he snaps a different wand than before from his other spring-loaded wrist sheath, and just before he activates it on Eramos, he says, "This stick's magic will help you stay in the fight just a bit longer. Want me to use it on you?"
Swift action to bring the wand to hand, then standard to cast infernal healing on Eramos. If Eramos doesn't want it, Braxus will take the charge himself, then use a move action to replace the wand. Only one wand charge will be spent in any case.
Then more appreciatively he whistles aloud and says, "Damned if those hauger av ulv møkk aren't stuck fast! You stopped them but good Lady Taika! Let any others come if they dare. We will be ready." He scans the crowd for threats as well...
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Then if we still seem to have time...
He then grabs a metal vial from his belt and tears out the wax sealed cork with his teeth before draining the contents in one swallow. He lets the empty vial fall to the sand and straw below, ready for more enemies to come.
Potion of enlarge person, but again, only if we have time. The web seems to be holding and since we are letting them come to us I am risking taking a second round of actions. If he only gets the one, disregard the potion.

In terrible haste he also rushes the oni, though not a blind charge, driven by a ferocious need. Despite his rage, his movements are precise and much more controlled than in previous combats.
He shifts to the side at the last moment as he moves, allowing a clear lane for others to charge or shoot. Still within his great reach, he strikes at the oni with all his blood fueled anger can muster.

***OVERSEER ANNOUCEMENT***
As the once raging battle begins to slow, a strange cloud of translucent smoke appears in the center of the arena, coalescing into the demonic form of Kiang Zhen. The oni raises her hand, and the remaining creatures suddenly fall back and drop to their knees as if to acknowledge defeat.
”Well done, well done!”
”My minions accept your victory, and you have adequately the Emissary. Please, lower your weapons. I congratulate those of you still alive, for you have grown that much closer to qualifying for the Ruby Phoenix Tournament!”
The oni pauses for a minute to study the crowd before continuing, ”Beneath the trapdoors lies a series of subterranean passages. Scattered within the passages I have secured a collection of small, but nearly priceless porcelain vases. Your challenge is to locate one of these vases and return it to me. However, there is a catch – there are fewer vases than competitors. Only those who present me with a vase shall pass on to the next part of the competition.”

![]() |

As the one speaks, Jal keeps his blade leveled at his previous foe, unwilling to let any deceptions get in the way of his success. When it becomes obvious the martial component of the test is done (for now), he sheaths his blade, tightens his kapenia, and adjusts his goggles over his gray eyes.
”What are we waiting for?” he quips over at his teammates as he moves to open the nearest trapdoor, ”Let’s go get us a vase.”

Auric was about to groan in pain when Caduceus immediately soothes his body and ends his suffering in the best way possible. The young Chelaxian's eyes match his never-ending smile. "Thanks, Cad! With the threat of the oni now gone, Braxus's eyes and stern countenance fade back to normal, even if a bit weary. He turns his face to the kind elf paladin as the healing warms his ice damaged skin.
"You are too slow in that armor my friend." he says with a friendly rumble. He opens up the nearby trapdoor and offers to help the armored paladin down with a gesture. "You carried our pain in combat, now I can carry you so you can keep up while we move faster. After all, we are trying to beat others to these things Auric is so excited about."
I know you need to stop for the boots to work, but you can tell Braxus no thanks if you want to. I don't know how many rounds we have if this is a race to find one of the vases. We may have 7 rounds or we may not. I wouldn't want you behind the group for any reason and I would rather you just heal by some other of your many ways while we move quickly. Braxus does the moving, you do the healing. Braxus will listen either way you decide. He's easy that way.

![]() |

With hands out and an awkward laugh, "No Braxus, that is alright. If time is of the essence, I will proceed with all haste, on my own, thank you, Braxus, but er thanks. Another time perhaps." Another time perhaps?!?! What am I saying, what does that even mean?
I will hold off on the stop and go healing plan and reassess when (IF??) we run into our next combat.

GM Skipper |

Auric finds one the pits the first wave of monsters emerged from with ease, and opening it is no issue for Braxus. The pit is 20 feet deep, but a rusty pulley, threaded with a worn rope, connects to a wooden lift platform at the shaft's base, however the pulley no longer turns.

![]() |

Braxus is 14' tall presently, so if he reaches up I would imagine he can probably reach about 17' total, to be fair. Can he just hold on to the lip and drop the last three feet? Then he can reach up and bring the group down one by one for the next few rounds until his enlarge wears off.

![]() |

Dung: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
"That rope might hold two of us as a time," Taika says crisply as they prepare to move forward. "...but likely not Braxus at all."
She offers a small nod of thanks to Caduceus for his healing. "Your goddess's blessings are appreciated."
I'm good with the Braxus-elevator if the GM permits it. If we do that, Taika will be the last down and will spend two of her rounds activating a pearl of power and then recasting false life on herself. Not that we have to do it the Braxusvator way if other people have some ideas!
"It might profit us to study if the mechanism is entirely safe," Taika points out, and moves to cast detect magic down into the shaft, to look for any magical traps.

![]() |

Jal waits for Taika to detect for magics down the trapdoor before making the descent.
Either by the rope, which Jal can climb down taking 10 for 16, which should be enough; or by Ele-Braxus. Either is fine with me.
Once safely down into the passageways, Jal takes point, but not before looking back at Auric. ”You have sharp eyes. Why don’t you help me scout ahead? I’ll take point and you watch my back.”
Unless there is a better plan, the Varisian begins quietly scouting their immediate surroundings first.

... after a few tries, he gets it working, soothes the last of the lingering frostbite, and resheaths it. Then he does his (previously-rolled) scouting.
