[PFS] GM Lithrac's Scars of the Third Crusade (#5-22) (Inactive)

Game Master Cyril Corbaz

Grand Lodge

A Pathfinder Society Scenario for characters of 1st to 5th level (Tier 1-5).

The fiery inquisitions that raged through Mendev during the Third Mendevian Crusade may have been damped but never truly extinguished. Fanatics have reignited the witch-hunts in eastern Mendev, and in doing so they have captured and accused allies of the Pathfinder Society. Unless the PCs intercede and put a stop to this mob justice, their allies' deaths will spark a new wave of internecine executions throughout the crusader nation.

Content in "Scars of the Third Crusade" also contributes to the ongoing storyline of the Silver Crusade faction.

Here's some information on how I wish the game to run:

  • I intend on running this with a good pace. I'm posting at least once or twice a day, and I expect my players to check in (and ideally, post) at least once a day.
  • If we're in a combat and you don't post for 24 hours, I reserve the right to have you take the delay action until you can post.
  • If you know that you won't be able to post for a couple of days for any reasons, please warn me within the Discussion thread so that we may find an agreeable solution for all of us.
  • If you disappear and fail to give any news, I may have to remove your character from the scenario altogether. Credit earned for this scenario will depend on what portion of the scenario you were active in (i.e. if you drop out but took part in half the scenario, you'll get half the rewards). I reserve the right to replace you if this turn of events should take place.
  • I'll be rolling initiative and perception rolls to determine surprise. All other rolls, including saves, are made by you.
  • Maps will be hosted on googledocs. You will be able to move your own character on the map. Finally, I'll ask you to call AoOs when you provoke them since movement history isn't recorded. It works on a trust basis, really.
  • If you have any questions or would like any advice, please ask them in the Discussion thread, and I'll be more than happy to answer them.
  • Finally, remember and live by the Pathfinder Society's motto: Explore, Report, Cooperate!

Please post with your applying character, including level and class. Subtier will be decided according to the applications submitted. One spot is already reserved, leaving 5 slots open for the first takers.

Important: Please be advised that this is a more investigation/roleplay scenario. Violence may not always be advisable, so keep this in mind when you choose which character you're applying with.

Also, you're welcome to have a look at my PFS signup sheet for higher-level content.

Grand Lodge

Would love to join, if you don't mind me running it (for you?) At the same time. Depending on subtier, I can run with Fissa or a lower level character.

Grand Lodge

I don't mind at all, and I'd love to! Unfortunately all my characters are currently taken at the moment.

Grand Lodge

Love to join this.

An odd sight enters the Pathfinder lodge, bringing with it a breath of heat and the smell of sand and dust. Standing before you is a 6'1 efreeti, his eyes sunken and glowing red. About his neck is a collar, upon which is branded a single rune in Ignan. The efreeti exudes defeat and despair, his shoulders slumped, his head bowed.

Speak Ignan?:
The rune on his collar is Ignan for "Thrall"

"My master, Mareq ibn Bolthuni, the Rejected, the Scorned, the Avenger of all Iniquities, Ambassador Percipient to Golarion from the City of Brass, humbly offers his assistance in this historic endeavor. He declares his intention to seek out those fellow Pathfinders who stand accused in eastern Mendev and investigate the perfidious, resurgent mob justice that currently plagues that crusader nation."

The efreeti bows low and sweeps his hand dramatically towards the door.

Liberty's Edge

Following the efreeti in the door, timed with the outsider's introduction perfectly, is a man with fiery red hair, an engaging smile, and a confident stride. Well-dressed in a Keleshite (?) courtier's on-the-road outfit and cloak, he snaps his fingers imperiously at the efreeti.

"Begone, Dung-Faced Thrall! You have done your duty. Return to your abode until you are needed again!"

The man holds out a simple oil lamp towards the efreeti and shakes it once. The efreeti bows his head again, grimaces, and dissolves into smoke which quickly is sucked into the lamp's mouth.

"Hello, worthy and fellow Pathfinders. I am Mareq ibn Bolthuni al-Shamiri and I would accompany you on this great mission. You will find me a willing and eager partner in this task, able to bring a few small sorceries to bear in our quest, should the need demand it. If the occasion warrants, I can also summon my thrall to our aid, though I hold him in little esteem and would not recommend speaking to him at length, as his intellect has fallen from a great height and made him an unsuitable conversation partner."

The man smiles a winning smile of perfectly aligned teeth and begins engaging the room in small talk, going from one man to another, learning their names and shaking their hands, suggesting to each with his humble and interested demeanor that he would be happy to adventure alongside each one them. With the women in the group he displays interest in each, bordering ever so subtly on the immodest, yet never venturing into unwanted advances or other rude behavior.

Initially, he deflects inquiries about himself with a soft wave of his hand and a modest grin, replying frequently "Oh, well, I am of no account, yet your tale sounds much more engaging. Tell me more..." But slowly, over time and several drinks, he reveals to one, then another, small bits and pieces of his own self.

Mareq (pronounced with the Ignan hard, snapping k sound), is a native of the City of Brass, having eventually left for Golarion as an ambassador of the City's great vizier. He claims some small efreeti ancestry, thus accounting for his fiery red hair, which some would swear afterwards is actual fire (!). He is a diplomat by trade, but can fire a crossbow at need and bring forth useful magics occasionally. About his efreeti thrall he remains silent, gently and diplomatically changing the subject whenever asked.
