"I might be able to use those weapons, Grainne," Prothero replies, "though I've not spent a lifetime training with them, so I'll stick with my bow, thanks."
That fully charged wand of longstrider could come in very handy. I don't think it's on any of our spell lists, does anyone have a bit of UMD?
Perception, DC 25: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23 Close, but nope.
Arriving at the canyon, Prothero listens to his companions' observations, with little to add except to comment, "This looks like a fine place for an ambush. Well, another ambush."

![]() |

Okay, sorry for the long delay. First of all, my taking 10 with Spellcraft gives me a 23 for identifying things. If that's not enough, I also have a wand of identify as well, so if that's needed say so.
Likewise, I have UMD trained, but longstrider is a personal spell, so sorta useless for immediate use. That being said...,
Carina scowls at the other's description of the tracks and gorge...
Perception(aiding Prothero,using harrowed): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Never mind, worth a shot.
"Well, if the gorge seems to be the site of an ambush, is there a way around it? " she asks those who are better versed in outdoor travel. "Finding a way up the cliff face, perhaps?"

OH RIGHT we could have AIDED. always forget aboot that. can I try to aid him instead? Welcome back Carina, how was the boat ride?
"well, we either go through it, or around. And I don't think we'll catch up if we take the long way...." She said knowing she would never make the climb.

"At least we aren't likely going down there," Zero thinks as he searches for where the tracks go after turning away from the gorge, watching where Prothero looks and checking where he doesn't.

![]() |

As Zero gives him a gentle nudge and points out an area Prothero hasn't scanned, the monks eyes widen, "You know, I thought I saw something as we came close to the gorge, and now I realize what it was. There were humanoid figures moving around some of the mammoths and bison, though I don't see them now."
He pulls a wand from his belt pouch and asks Carina to tap him with it, for protection. Then he says, "If we're going in here, we should be on our toes."
Mage armor, please?
Good point about longstrider being a personal spell, Carina. Guess the wand is not so useful as I thought.

![]() |

It was quite relaxing, I enjoyed myself, save the bed wasn't that comfortable.
Carina looks at the cliffside for a moment, as she absently performs Prothero's request. "If there's a possibility of a path up here, I have a spell to make climbing it easy for one person. Then with a bit of rope, we can hopefully avoid this ambush altogether."
I can bonded item-cast Spider climb, and between that and Grace's slippers, we can likely get up there.

![]() |

Better idea.
"How bout we just save the spells an' use these?" Grace pulled off her pack and produced a pair of slippers. She slipped them onto her feet and stepped onto the wall, walking up it as if it were the floor. "These let me go up the wall like a spidermonkey. I'll tie them to a rock and pass them down."

![]() |

I'll take a Mage Armor too.
Zero nods in agreement to this plan. "I am confident in my climbing abilities, but it wouldn't do to take risks in such an icy clime."

![]() |

As our Archer somehow has the Highest AC of the group, I vote I go up first and him second, that way we are able to defend ourselves should something happen. I'm fairly sure the DM is trying to figure out a way around this right now as we speak.
"Okay, I'll be up in a wavecrash and drop them down for the next person." she says moving up slightly slower than usual.
Climb speed is 20feet.

![]() |

As our Archer somehow has the Highest AC of the group, I vote I go up first and him second...
And I don't even have barkskin up! I'm good with that plan, though I think the scenario may limit us to going through the gorge, but at least we'll be prepared. Also, I love the undine phrasing, 'up in a wavecrash.'

![]() |

Thanks, thought of it just now when I tried to think of a replacement for "Jiffy" that a seafaring "trader" might use. XP
I think I'm gonna have to think of more like that for her to use.

![]() |

There is nothing in the cleric spell list from level 1 and 2 spells that helps with a plain old wall (to climb) lol
"Lantern trick me again, no help for wall, need long stretchy thing for wall, not light. Anypeoples having a helper?"
Unless someone has a rope to let down or those spider climb slippers have enough minutes left for me to climb, I'm probably not going to be able to make the climb check.

![]() |

Abaal looks up the sheer walls of the canyon.
"Is it not our intention to get to the other side?" He points his large blade down the the gully.

GM_CariMac |

You have three choices. 1. Through the Gorge. 2. Scale the walls. 3. Go around the gorge entirely and take extra time.

![]() |

Scale the walls!

![]() |

Unless someone has a rope to let down or those spider climb slippers have enough minutes left for me to climb, I'm probably not going to be able to make the climb check.
hmm, that is a good point actually. 10 minute limit, climb speed 20...how tall is the cliff?

GM_CariMac |

The canyon walls are 50 feet high, and the canyon’s width is a consistent 30 feet from one side to another.

![]() |

Okay so it'll take us 4/10 charges to ALL go up. If I go up, I need someone who has a good sneak to go with me, but the new question is DO WE SPLIT THE PARTY? >:D
"If you say you saw some foes up above I say we go GREET them. Meet them on both fronts! Use this chance to SURPRISE THEM." She said smiling evilly.

![]() |

So, I don't think I saw the foes up above, I saw them in the gorge with the animals. I think we may be overthinking this, as sometimes happens when a party gets stuck at a simple door in a dungeon. I propose we go into the gorge. If we all die, sorry.

GM_CariMac |

Yes there's movement in the animals in the gorge. You don't see anything at the top of the gorge. I reread the scenario you really have two choices. Into the gorge and go around. The scaling may or may not happen depending on your choice. I see two votes for facing things head on i.e. going into the gorge.

![]() |

Arriving at the canyon, Prothero listens to his companions' observations, with little to add except to comment, "This looks like a fine place for an ambush. Well, another ambush."
"Why do we dally? Let us spring it then."

![]() |

Carina looks uneasily at the gorge. "Very well. I rather go around, but if you all insist..."

![]() |

"We do. The Aspis still have a lead on us, and we need to fix that problem faster than a shipleak." Grace says, her face determined. " but don't worry," she says giving a Sly grin to the other girl, "I don't pick LOSING FIGHTS. And that's cause I'm always sure to make the fight favor me!"
And with that she moves to the lead, sure that the first person tageted would be the one who could take a hit.

![]() |

Well since climbing straight up isn't an option, I vote for going straight through, but first...
"If we be going into the rock whole for a prank, let's make a prank first!"he says as he violently shakes his lantern.
I'm using my bonded item to cast Spirtual Squire http://archivesofnethys.com/SpellDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Spiritual%20Squire
"Go my mirror match, go and cause the mischief pranks!"
The idea is I'm sending him in first to trigger an ambush

![]() |

Irritably, Abaal looks down at his wrist sundial. He stares at it a moment, then frowns. He shakes the wrist it is on vigorously. Then he stares at it again still frowning. Finally throws up his arms in exasperation.
"I'm going in. Those of you who wish to can follow along from the safety of the jagged, icy, 50-foot, sheer cliff walls."
He's off! Abaal contends with Grainne for the lead before finally stepping aside to allow the 'prank' to caper ahead.

GM_CariMac |

The party heads right down the center of the gorge. A Spiritual Squire leading the way. It gets well into the gorge, and you all get about halfway down the half mile gorge. when the anticipated trap does in fact go off. Abaal, Aliean, Grainne, Zero and Prothero hear a rumbling as a heard of bison come barreling down at the party.
Everone but Carina can act in the surprise round. If your character chooses to climb, I need two climb checks. The DC for the first climb check is DC 15 and the second is DC 20. If you fail one or both of these or choose not to attempt a climb, I"ll resolve that after the climb rolls.

I don't see no map update, so murdering it is likely not an option? Probably as intended, and for the better.

Slippers of spiderclimbing. I can WALK up the wall. do I even NEED to make a climg check?

![]() |

Maybe! O_o
When worn, a pair of these slippers enables movement on vertical surfaces or even upside down along ceilings, leaving the wearer’s hands free. Her climb speed is 20 feet. Severely slippery surfaces—icy, oiled, or greased surfaces—make these slippers useless. The slippers can be used for 10 minutes per day, split up as the wearer chooses (minimum 1 minute per use).

DM - is it possible to jump over the herd as it passes, rather than climbing up? By spending one ki point, Prothero has a +38 to jump, due to the monk High Jump ability. I'd like to grab Carina and try to jump over the herd. It may not be entirely realistic, but it's cinematic and heroic, which is why I want to go for it. I'll post as if it's okay, let me know if it's not.
Prothero hears the rumble of many hooves and remarks, "Note to self: next time, listen to the fortune teller. Sorry about that, Carina." He then steps next to the Varisian woman, smoothly picking her up and leaping impossibly high into the air in the instant before the herd is upon them!
Jump: 1d20 + 38 ⇒ (12) + 38 = 50 That would let me jump 12' straight up.

Ailean eyes the bison and says, "Big fuzzy friends need prank time for the stopping."
He then makes the scariest face he can and says "OGGG-A-BOGGA-BOO!", at the same time, his spiritual squire also makes a scary face.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21

![]() |

While I doubt this will work, it seems like the best course of action for this character and generally it's what you should do in real life against a charging animal, not really sure about a stampede though...

![]() |

actually you have a really good point. This also is a better solution than my eventual lion king "Long live the King" scene that might have happened if I dropped our friend. Forget I made that last post~
"Everyone form together!" Grace says stepping next to Ailean, and, summoning her strength, she slicks the ground in front of the lead stampeder directly in front of them.
5 foot step, gather energy, slick [5 foot square of grease spell. DC 15 or trip, think they'd skid along the ground?] How many do you think need to make a save? one or A HUNDRED? XD

![]() |

"Take my hand you fools!" Abaal yells. Then to himself says: "I cannot look." And then he stares.

GM_CariMac |

So... I don't get to act then?
Yes you do get to act. In the first round before the Bison, and then in the second round. Just not in the surprise. If you want to climb try rolling both checks.
I have Abaal and Zero both climbing and making the saves, Grace standing next to Ailean and trying to make the ground in front of them slick so the bison slip on the grease. While Ailean tries to scare the bison off.
Prothero grabbing Carina and jumping straight up in the air 12' straight up. @Carina if you want to go with this plan can I get an Acrobatics Check to hold on to Prothero?

GM_CariMac |

Zero and Abaal climb the wall, and manage to avoid the stampede as it rushes by. They watch in awe at the rest of the parties actions.
Prothero grabs Carina and makes a flying leap straight up missing the first part of the rush of massive stinky animals.
Grace and Ailean both stand their ground. Ailean tries to intimidate the creatures, and Grace tries to trip them. One of the bull bison stumbles and goes sliding into both of them. Neither Grace or Ailean are sure who's actions caused the stumble. They both take damage as they are bowled over.
Damage: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (6, 1) + 12 = 19
Reflex Save 22 for half damage Ailean and Grace.
Prothero give me another jump roll, and a reflex to avoid landing on a Bison. Carina if you would rather take another action than being in a flying leap, go ahead.

![]() |

Now slightly ruing his inability to speak, Zero waves his arms wildly and brandishes the rope he lowered. Get up here before we have to scrape you off the ice!

![]() |

Jump: 1d20 + 38 ⇒ (4) + 38 = 42
Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Prothero makes another incredible jump! But the timing of his landing could have been better.
Come on, Carina, keep jumping with me! It'll be fun! ;)

![]() |

Reflex Save VS DC 22: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14

Well that wasn't so bad, what's next?

![]() |

Now slightly ruing his inability to speak, Zero waves his arms wildly and brandishes the rope he lowered.
"Many words. Many syllables. Minimally five.... Sounds like...."

![]() |

Carina squeals in surprise as Prothero lifts her into his arms and leaps. The shock, however, is momentary, and with a few gestures and words, she intones a quick spell. "Aim for a wall and grab on tight!",she screams before clutching onto Prothero's chest like her life depended on it. (It probably does.)
Casting spider climb on Prothero through my bonded item, then holding on for dear life. Considering the sudden motion involved with this, I'll make a concentration check to properly cast the spell.
