The crowd seems quite pleased at this new entertainment and the musicians quickly improvise some battle music.
Fendel what are you trying to do? I assumed you were locking the doors and then blaming on Basira. What else is the disable device for?
The sacred fist lays into the guard who suddenly decides the stars in her head are way more interesting than anything else. She closes her eyes to watch them and slumps to the ground.
I missed the grab check vs. Nivik grab: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33, Success, which is probably what Sai's comment was about.
"Let you go? a voice from the crowd stops laughing at Basira's demise and addresses the mortal. It is the commander of the hired salamanders. "You just slayed a man in his own home and you want us to let you go?" He laughs again.

Not a literal command. Basira just wanted to keep the sabotage suspects confined. He also knew who the culprit & was just putting on a good show. Your perception would have told you noone moved to the doors to enact the cammand in any case. Would you like to retcon?

Moving swiftly up and around the guard grappling Nivik, Sai strikes from it's flank with an effort to stun the creature into dropping her friend.

Controlled raging ki flurry,defensive strike/stunning fist+menacing flank: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (1) + 21 = 22
Sorry I missed. Anyone that hits the creature from flank will hit with +4 instead of +2. They don't have to be flanking with Sai, just in a flank position on the same creature she threatens. Not sure if Nivik threatens or not. This fight could be over if Milton pulls out the big inquisitor stuff(still doing non-lethal of course) like bane or a judgement. If not Fendel has plenty of arrows that are non-lethal, since the door is open, though he will have a 20% miss chance with the dim light from darkness. We just really need to free Nivik and leave.

Milton Smithson |
A couple questions. 1) Is the Salamander doing triple damage? If not, I'm confused why you then rolled another 2x of damage? 2) The fire damage shouldn't multiply on a crit, right? How much damage should I take of which types? I am resistant to fire after all, so that initial 2 fire damage on the original damage roll would be ignored. But you then rolled another 2d6, so I'm confused. I think your first damage roll (1+4), and then your first fire roll (2), and then your 1st damage roll confirming the crit (2+4) would give me 11 physical damage, and 2 fire, of which I'd take only the 11 physical damage.
I have certainly been trying to NOT pull out the big Inquisitor, err Paladin stuff, however, Salamanders are not to be trifled with!
Milton will active a Judgement of Protection, +2 to my AC. It should now require a 19 or 20 for the Salamander to hit me, let's hope he doesn't continue getting lucky.
Milton will attack the guard again (or if Nivik handled the guard, Milton attacks the Salamander).
Was there a flanking bonus? I'm not accounting for it if there is.
+1 Cold Iron Heavy Mace Hit: 1d20 + 11 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 11 - 2 - 4 = 12
+1 Cold Iron Heavy Mace Damage: 1d8 + 8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 8 + 6 = 15 Nonlethal
That seems unlikely to hit, but if it does...
Intimidate: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23 as a free action against the one I hit to demoralize. Cornugon Smash feat
I'll break out bane next round, but I wanted the AC boost first. How many Salamanders are there? Other guards? We can smoke them now, and my blood is up! I'll wade into legions with a 30 AC! And once I start demoralizing them, they can only hit me with 20s.
Sai'Dothwyn |
For Milton there is a flank because Sai moved to the opposite side so he specifically would get one. There is only the one salamander remaining on the map, but more could possibly pop up. Even with the flank bonus being bumped to 4 I don't know if you hit. Fingers crossed. This one salamander has both rolled well and had poor rolls against her so she is surprisingly durable. And in case it isn't clear the guard and the salamander are one and the same. She is a salamander guard.

The salamander guard has a spear which is a 3x weapon. I incorrectly multiplied the burn on a crit. Total damage is 21 piercing +2 burn (resisted). As Sai said, Milton does has +4 to flanking, making the total a 16 which fortunately connects with her grappled AC. :)

Milton Smithson |
Ahhhh, got it! With a flank, and me turning bane on next round, we'll smoke that guard in no time. Milton is pissed, he's not used to getting thumped in quite that fashion! At least the guard has lots of penalties now!
Adeah Silversong |
Huh. Adeah watches Nivik's spell go off with surprise and a little confusion. Are we trying to kill them now? Because that definitely wouldn't have just left them unconscious. "Well, if you're bringing out the big guns... I'll bring out mine." Adeah yanks the two pendants off her neck and tosses them to the ground, at which point they expand into a normal-sized musket and ammunition bag. She picks up the musket and aims.
Not sure what sorts of actions are involved here. Picking up the musket is obviously a move action, but shrink item doesn't specify what kind of action it takes to toss something onto a solid surface. Would it just be a free action, like dropping something?
If I've still got a standard action:
Called shot vs guard's leg: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 11 - 4 = 27

Good news is that you only have to get the lethal damage below the non-lethal damage, not below 0, & not negative Con. Dropping an item is a free-action. The spell says 'toss' which might mean standard, I will poke around before making a ruling. :)

The last guard drops and the guests cheer. Alshost Inkur warns the attackers that the authorities have already been called. Unspoken, he implies you only have a minute to escape before imminent arrest.*

*after the escape/trial/prison interlude
By the time the party has completed Qalkami’s final task and report back to her. Calm and poised, she asks you about a couple of incidents.
“You did a good job getting Carlin out of trouble with that inevitable. I fear your efforts may have been wasted, though: I received word that he’s been arrested. Odd, they seemed to have some detailed information about his illegal activities. You wouldn’t have any idea what happened, would you?”
and after that is sorted...
“I reviewed the signed contract you brought back, and I noticed that there were a few adjustments made. Can you enlighten me as to why?" she asks about the water contract.
So that is three things you can and should address. Address any any or all three individually, but at least one person should cover each. Everyone should include a d20 roll for each. Leave it blank if you do not know what skill to use.
Awen |
As the last guard falls, Awen grabs hold of his nearest companions and pushes them towards the door. "Out! Lets Move!" he cries, following his own advice. If no one else grabs the decanter, since Awen already got the deck, Sai will quietly point it out to Adeah and Nivik since the perception 15 check is automatic for everyone else. And if still no one has interest, Sai will "collect" the decanter herself.
Not wasting time, knowing the authorities will be there soon, Sai heeds the warning and leaves quickly.
"Agreed. Now it is time to leave."
As soon as she exits the building she relaxes the controlled fury in her blood and a familiar fatigue sets in, though only for the next 20 seconds or so. She still manages to keep up with her team as they escape the scene and head back to Qalkami's place.
When Qalkami questions the group, she remains silent, waiting to see what the others will say. If no one speaks up, I know exactly what Sai will say... but she is patient.
