Thistle rears as the mud hits his face.
Gaaraahhh! Mud in my eyes and I am trying to swim with armor on. What am I doing here!
He shakes his head and dips his face in the water, hoping to blink the mud away.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
While he flails near the entrance of the room, the weapon he called into existence continues its assault on the muddy creature.
Spiritual Weapon Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 for Spell Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Spiritual Weapon Attack, crit confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 for additional Spell Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Unable to really do much else as he is so slow in the water, Thistle hopes that his spell and the others can keep the creature at bay until he can thrash his way closer.
Swim Check: 1d20 + 4 - 3 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 3 = 2
Unfortunately in the distraction of getting the mud out of his eyes, he has lost the momentum he had from kicking his feet to tread water. He sucks in a last quick breath of air, his heart racing as his head dips below the surface.
Really? two 1s? This is going to get interesting... :)

Caranthir finds that being partially emerges causes a weird strain on his bow, and he misses both shots. Crowelani is just splashing about, unable to move. Thistle manages to bring the spiritual blade to bear, and cuts through the mud like butter.

No, sorry - the damage for the grapple is an editing mistake, and shouldn't be there.
Caranthir hits the creature, as does Fellgrim, but their arrows and bolt only splash through the mud with little effect. The spiritual blade is far more effective there: the force effect burn the mud away.
Trying to reconstruct what that roll should have been: I'm getting to hit 17, damage 3.
Bruce, struggling against the firm hold of the creature, manages to set fire to it. And himself.

Thistle nearly panics when he sees his friend swallowed by the mud, and is similarly relieved when the mud dissipates into the deeply filled room. He continues struggling for a few moments before calming down all the way, which allows him to steady himself with his head comfortably above water.
Taking 10 on swim again... whew!
He moves over towards one of the doors, and when the group has shaken off the shock of the last fight, gets ready to go through it.
Some of these buffs will last a few minutes, might as well try to use them as much as possible.
Edit: I suppose we should search the room - Thistle is slightly preoccupied with not drowning... :)

"Any ideas how we can stop the water? I am not a good swimmer."

There's two doors beneath the waterline, one on the west side of the room, one on the east side. They're made of metal, but otherwise unlocked.
Jelani can indeed stand here, tall as he is
Caranthir Silverhand
|
"Should we try the eastern door?" Caranthir asks. "Let us hope they can be easily opened."
Bruce W.

Bruce open the submerged door on the east side, and immediately a strong current pulls through the opening, into the completely submerged hallway beyond it. Bruce and Thistle are at risk of being sucked through.

Thistle is flushed down the corridor at tremendous speed. He is completely submerged, and starts to be dragged around a bend.
Another DC 15 Swim/DC 20 Reflex or move down another 40 feet.
Bruce has no problem holding his own in the water, but the current is rather strong. Thistle has moved out of sight in the murky water.

"I could perhaps be of assistance, inasmuch as I am a competent swimmer. I do hate to get too many of us in trouble."
Could we get a description of whether we can even get to someone in time to help? If they are a round or two ahead of us, is there any chance to get in and catch and help them?
| DM Kludde |
Jelani is enlarged, and can easily prevent himself from being sucked, if he wants (it would probably be painful for him to go in).
There's currently a strong current sucking down the corridor, moving anybody in there at 40 feet per round. The water is murky, all you know is that Thistle got sucked in, and that Bruce is swimming agains the current with ease. Anyone who lets himself be sucked in can reach Thistle, but to have any kind of control you need successful swim checks
Fellgrim Cogmaester
|
"I am a very poor swimmer as well."
Bruce W.
|
Bruce was unaware of Not-Thistle getting sucked under, but he did notice the giant form of Jelani move past him. Not wanting to leave a fellow Pathfinder in trouble Bruce turns around and swims with the current.
| DM Kludde |
Thistle, meanwhile, is struggling against the current (I still need those rolls)
Ywashed down a further 40 feet
Down the hallway is another bend, with three doors on the left in rapid succession. The doors are made of metal.
You may try and grab a hold of those doors with reflex saves. They are unlocked, so it's possible to open them
| DM Kludde |
So are you all just waiting here while Thistle gets flushed down the toilet? It's possible to dive after him, you can swim underwater for a number of rounds equal to twice your constitution (as long you make only a single move per round), and the current is strong enough to drag you along. Is there anything that is perhaps unclear to you?
As for being able to catch up: currently the current is quite strong, but that's because a door was just opened. If you swim after Thistle, and he can grab a hold of something while he's ahead, you can probably group up with him (but you'll have to manage to grab onto something yourself)
