Heroism on Joliryn, I suppose?
The leader bolsters the fervor of the artist, while Zurnzal kicks the closest lizard to pieces.
The chameleon tries to take another bite out of Zurnzal, while the remaining lizard moves over and tries to bite Marnarius

Marnarius is glad to see one of the lizards going down, but his triumph is stopped by the bite in his leg. "Bloody friggin' statue!"
He gives a quick nod of thanks to 322 and then resumes chopping at the lizard, putting a lot of anger in his swings this time.

Estimating that her short legs can't reach the lizard faster then the big human next to her Joliryn by walking around the thing blocking her path she decides on a different course of action
"Shojiraj, let's alternate..after you hit it, take a step back and let someone else take a stab at the thing"

Joliryn and Shohiraj obey the leader's order, but fail to drop the chameleon, despite the artist's solid hit.
In a last-ditch attempt to defend the room, the chameleon bites at the fiery artist.

With a final push, Marnarius and Zurnzal manage to bring the last chameleon down, boulders crashing onto the stone floor, reverberating around the room. Luckily, the antarnicus wing is in a rather remote part of the basement.
Combat over!
Though the notes aren't immediately apparent (Perception check to search, takes 5 minutes), there is a magical staff, and Marnarius' weapon is here as well: a display case containing three weapons has Marnarius' among them.
The first is an obsidian-bladed scythe with a mahogany handle. The second is a heavy flail made of magically hardened gold and whose head is molded like a roaring tiger skull. The third is a serrated, single- edged longsword made of green-tinged metal.
You tell me which one is yours (in other words, you get to choose which one it is)

My spellcraft is +9 to identify magic item properties. Feel free to roll for me if needed.
322's cheers as the stony lizard crumbles. Her mutterings sound like gibberish for a minute before she calms down. Finally she speaks the common tongue.
"That was fun! But what is next?"
Marnarius, the Vengeful |
As soon as the chameleon drops to the floor, Marnarius turns to the weapon cabinet, sheathing his sword and unstrapping the shield from his arm as he walks. He drops the shield to the ground while seemingly talking to himself. When he reaches the weapon display, he puts both hands on the glass over the heavy flail. "Finally, we meet. The Pathfinders interfered when I should have found you in the Tapestry, but it will be their undoing in the end. What better place to find you, deep in the belly of their base... Oh yes, there'll be plenty of blood to flow. Come, together we will show them."
Marnarius has to pace himself, taking a few seconds to check the cabinet for traps despite his haste to have the weapon in his hands.

Disable device, disarm traps: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
When he's satisfied that there are no traps (or that they've been disabled if there are), Marnarius opens the cabinet and takes the flail in both hands, swinging it around to test its weight. "Good, good."
Satisfied with the fulfillment of his personal goals, he hangs the flail from his belt and turns back to the rest of the group. "So, we're here for some notes, right? Let's get cracking." He starts moving about and only now feels the pain from his wounds. "Ouch. Can someone take care of these wounds for me?" Missing 33 health.
Perception to locate notes: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
The Experiment, 322 |
322 cringes a bit, then mumbles to herself and touches Maranarius. She sees the darkness seep forth from her fingertips, covering the wounds. As the darkness seeps back into her fingers, she sees the wounds close.
That should heal you completely, Marnarius.

Eh, close enough.
"Uhh...does anyone else?" She shudders a bit at the thought of leaking more darkness out of her.
The Experiment, 322 |
"Oh. Okay." She touches the halfling's wounds, frowning as shadows sweep across her arm and close the wound.
Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (6, 2) + 7 = 15
"All better." 322 is glad to see the darkness fade from the halfling and not envelop her. Like that one time...best not to ponder on it for too long.
DM Kludde |
The leader confirms what Marnarius already knows: the heavy flail is a +2 Vicious weapon.
Joliryn and Marnarius search around, but can't seem to find the notes on the first pass. (You can repeat the search, but it will take precious time - 5 minutes for each attempt (though all six of you can search at the same time))
Marnarius, the Vengeful |
As 322 performs her magic, Marnarius watches her with a critical eye. He looks admiring, and wary. "Wow. I thought I was messed up, but girl, you have... issues. Do you get out enough?"
He feels his skin, now smooth. "Well, thanks anyway. Come on, let's grab these notes and get out of here. We have a lot of work left to do."
Perception, aid another to locate notes: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
DM Kludde |
Shadowy tentacles from the dark void slowly knit the experiment back together as Marnarius looks on. Meanwhile, Zurnzal and Rataji manage to locate the notes on the Tapestry. In a long preface, Aram Zey introduces a ritual, lathered with warnings against performing it: completing the rite would tear a permanent rift into the Hao Jin Tapestry, allowing uninterrupted traffic between the planes—but always to the same site within the demiplane.
If you want to move to the next location, I again need a disguise or stealth check
The Experiment, 322 |
"Oh, issues indeed." She shudders as the darkness closes her wounds and retreats to her head.
When ready to move, the experiment seems to blend into the crowd, unnoticed. Not like anyone cares about her, anyway.

With their silent, stealthy ways, the group again manages to avoid the patrols in Skyreach, staying mostly in the shadows, or posing as pathfinders. The Ambitious even gets a 'Hi Skaarr' from his disguise.
Climbing to higher level, the agents ascends five sets of stairs and zigzag through numerous levels, until finally entering a secured area, that eventually leads to a door.
The sound of a conversation can be heard from this side:
A self-righteous male voice, lecturing: If it hadn't been for your brash measures, we would not have been on this duty. Think of it, if you had changed your violent ways, you could be enjoying the greatest moment in pathfinder history. What a view that congregation should be, and we only get to watch this torn tapestry.
A female voice, agitated and fiery: Is that so? I had no other option in Isger. We were surrounded, and I had to think quick. At least I got to see the tapestry again. If I had followed your advice, we'd all be dead.
The Experiment, 322 |
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
322 listens carefully as they approach the door and motions quiet to the other Agents.
When they retreat to a safe distance, 322 pipes up. "I think they are guarding the some kind of tapestry. Sounds like it's torn, though. I guess we get it from them?" 322 twiddles her thumbs.

Jolyrin looks at the leader before nodding in agreement
"Better prepare for this, just in case"
Jolyrin casts keen edge on her kukri and once we are ready to move inside will cast vanish on herself as well
Marnarius, the Vengeful |
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Marnarius licks his lips and fingers the weapon at his belt, barely able to contain his impatiance. "I'm ready," he whispers. We'll burst open the door and cut them down before they know what's happening. We'll have the Tapestry in our hands soon, and take this building from within."
As simple as Marnarius is thinking, maybe we can come up with some more tactics. Anyone have any ideas on how we can get the door open and maybe prolong the surprise? Anyone who wants to use some actions before I storm in? :)
Jorilyn, would you be willing to cast bear's endurance on me? I'm one of the front-liners, but my AC is pretty low and I'll be taking damage from my own vicious flail as well.
DM Kludde |
I'll give you some time to come up with a plan, unless you want to rush in.
The Experiment, 322 |
I will cast Dust of Twilight on the closest Pathfinder I see. It's a 10 ft spread, so I'll try to catch multiple foes if possible.
Has it been more than an hour since we fought the lizards and statues? Just wondering if Heroism on Zurnzal has run out, or if my Cloak of Darkness needs to be refreshed.
DM Kludde |
Note that the door is still closed. Zurnzal is still disguised as Skaarr. Skaarr is pretty well-known for ending up in the top 32 of the yearly crafting contest, so he is likely to be recognised.
Preg |
K, let's have Zurnzal knock along with some others and see if they will open the door for "Skaarr" I along with someone else - Marnarius? - will try to sneak in invisible and we'll ambush them from there..and coordinate a bit about where we'll go, say right side of the room..so that the experiment won't blast us as well with her area spell
DM Kludde |
The voices on the other side of the door suddenly fall eerily silent.
The door is still closed, but it's not locked
The Experiment, 322 |
Skaarr is pretty well-known for ending up in the top 32 of the yearly crafting contest, so he is likely to be recognised.
Haha, I've been thinking about this joke the entire weekend.
322 frowns as Zurnzal gives a stiff, monotone impersonation of Skaarr.
The dicebot really hates you, man.
Marnarius, the Vengeful |
Ouch, that's really unlucky (again) with the dice roll.
Marnarius whispers, almost hissing. "Was that the best you could do? It didn't sound convincing to me." He then looks at their leader, whispering urgently. "We have to strike now, while they're still uncertain. We need the element of surprise!"
Marnarius is in favor of a frontal assault now, but will hold on the orders of the leader.

DM Kludde |
Disguise would've worked if somebody had been able to see the disguise...
So, you guys are going in? What is the plan?
Rataji, The Leader |
Whispering with the door between us should be fine
Thinking quickly Rataji comes up with a plan.
"Zurnzal put your hands behind your back. Marnarius pretend you have him hostage. Maybe with enough luck we can get them to surrender with the threat to "Skarr"."
Thats the best idea I could come up with.
Marnarius, the Vengeful |
"I like this plan," whispers Marnarius. "Zurnzal, you don't need weapons, right? We'll go in, with my longsword on your neck. I'll push you over to them when we get close enough. They might expect an attack from me, but you might be able to catch them off-guard."
"Anyone else, if you're invisible, you can join on our heels... "
Assuming we all agree:
Marnarius sets his longsword on 'Skaarr's neck and let's him open the door. As soon as he's in sight he'll march up to the people who are visible and shoves his captives in their direction. "Go stand with your cronies, and no funny business!" he bluffs.
