Taicho and Kikage clearly have the least trouble getting up the cliff, and with the aid of a few ropes, it is possible to get the rest of the party up. The plan is smooth as silk, were it not for the appearance of a monstrosity lurking in the caves above! A strange, crab-like creature descends from a hole in the ceiling...

Talathel decides it is safer on top of his wolf and jumps on top of him. He points at the creature and yells at the others.
"Close you eyes! Turn your heads!"
After the drama he casts flare on the creature to try and dazzle it. He aims it close to the creature's eyes as to prevent everyone from getting blind. Before the spell goes off he closes his eyes also. A bright light envelops the creature and fades again.
"I think it is done."
The little gnome says with his eyes still closed.

The wayang winces from the pain but does not groan. Instead, he uses the proximity induced by his snapping claws to slash once again at the beast.

"As long as I draw breath, you shall not lay a claw on my companions. Begone!"

Talathel looks at Hikage and flinches as another hit cuts him to ribbons. He looks into his hand and mumbles something, causing a flame to appear in his hand. He hols his open hand with the flame towards the creature and a bolt of fire shoots towards it. The bolt flies off into the wall as forch moved a little underneath him. A moment after the flame disappeared a new one appeared in his hand.

Talathel throws the second ball of fire into the cave in the hope they see anything up there, managing only a brief flash of light. He casts dancing lights and sends the small wisp like orbs up into the cave to get a better look.
"What a peculiar creature that was! Maybe it was hiding some treasure up there, could one of you get a look up there? My clothes would get dirty climbing that rock wall..."

Salena sheaths buts of her swords. "Sure, I'll take a look."

She waits for everyone to be in the tunnel before reeling in the rope and throwing it up to the hole the creature came from.

With the rope hopefully stuck to something, maybe after tying a loop on its end, Salena climbs up.

Salena finally is the one to take a climb to the hole in the ceiling. Up there, she finds a bunch of items, probably once belonging to the victims of the cave dweller. A cloak, a potion and two scrolls all seem to be of some value.

DC 15 spellcraft:

The cave lead out to the open air again. The terrain is rough, until after about half an hour, a narrow path leads up the mountain, hugging a sheer cliff face to one side, while dropping off to the other into what appears to be the remains of a rock slide. Several alcoves have been carved into the cliff face, each containing a small stone shrine—some little more than simple standing stones, others ornately carved lanterns or small houses. The path is well defined, promising easier progress, and is a welcome break from the rough terrain leading up to this point.

DC 15 Knowledge (local) or Knowledge (religion):
These shrines serve to ward off malicious spirits and bad luck, thus protecting travelers.

One of the shrines ' alcoves contains a narrow fissure at its back.

He takes a sniff from his snuff box as his wolf sets off with him on top. Riding his wolf he looks around bored with the scenery.
"Do one of you maybe have a book or something I may read? The landscape is... the same..."

Taicho waits for the opportune moment, showing a patience that starkly contrasts with Salena who, drawing her blade, rushes for the ghoul as Krux's magic missile flies by. Salena. Between the solid hit and the arcane projectile, there is little to prevent the ghoul form succumbing. Deeper down, however, a growl can be heard, indicating that the threat is not over.
