Salena can, however, not follow her strong words up with the actual deed. Her swings are strong, but her aim is horrible.

Krux shouts at the ghoul, then launches another volley of missiles, mangling the undead thoroughly. Taicho cries for Salena to move back, but she instead strikes at the ghoul - missing both attacks.

I'm back again!
Talathel rides forward on his trusty wolf. Unable to get close enough to the creature to see it he decides a distraction may work. He casts ghost sound further down the path to try and get the ghouls attention, a raging fire can be heard soon after.
"Perhaps this may help you. My magics can't reach around corners so you will have to do with this for now."
He says as he pets his wolf to let him know it's safe.
Maldrek Methacan |
- Hikage, pull Salene out of there, I cannot fight in this narrow passage!
Delay until there be place to move or some other opportunity
DM Kludde |
Maldrek sees no gap through which to engage, while Talathel attempts to draw the ghoul's attention away from the tasty snack that Salena represents.

Hikage moves the paralyzed fighter out of the way, while Taicho tries to find a back entrance - and locates it on the rocky rubble ten feet below the path.
DC 15 Climb to go down
Just as the situation seems at its most dire, Krux fires off a volley of magic missiles, ending the existence of the miserable ghoul.
Combat over!
Talathel Wolfrider |
Talathel pokes his head around the corner to see what is happening. At the same time his spell ends.
"What an ugly creature... I think you handled the situation quite well!"
He adds with a smile.
"Now what do we do with the woman? I've got an idea."
He makes a waving motion with his hand and blob of water the size of a bucket appears above her head. His hand makes a downward motion and the water splashes on her.
"Is she awake?"
Taicho Munetoshi |
Climb (Take 10): 10 + 5 = 15
Taicho enters through the back entrance, not yet aware that the combat is over.
DM Kludde |
Salena regains control of her limbs after being thoroughly splashed by Talathel's bucket. Whether there's a causal relationship is unclear, but fact of the matter is that Salena is now fully mobile again, albeit very cold.
The path continues for another hour. The narrow mountain path ends at the lip of a fifty-foot-wide crevasse that stretches out of sight in both directions. A pair of carved stone pillars stands at the edge of the chasm and a matching pair of pillars can be seen on the far side. The remains of corroded iron chains, set within the stone pillars, dangle limply into the crevasse. A relatively gentle slope leads to the bottom of the crevasse. The slope on the far side is much steeper, and is covered with jagged, precarious- looking rocks.
Climbing down is a DC 15 check, climbing up on the other side is harder
The onset of thaw has increased the chance of a rockslide on the steeper far slope.
Hikage Kasai |
Hikage checks if Salena is safe and sound, before seeing to the task ahead of the group.
"Perhaps using a knotted rope would be easier. Shall we?"
The samurai offers to climb first on the other side.

DM Kludde |
Hikage's nimble climbing skills, and his knotted rope solution make crossing the crevasse easy, if not tiresome.
The path is uneventful for another half hour, until the party comes at a site that has been described to them.
Two rock formations, shaped like a pair of thick pillars, stand prominently near a cliff’s edge. One pillar stands fifteen feet tall and the smaller stands ten feet tall. A shallow cave, just to the side of the pillars, looks as if it might provide some shelter from inclement mountain weather.
This is the rock formation of the two brothers. The taller of the two formations is known as Big Brother and the smaller is known as Little Brother. Local legend maintains that the Two Brothers were once men who successfully protested against injustices using peaceful and nonviolent means. Upon death, their bodies were transformed into unyielding rock, corresponding to their nature in life. It was not uncommon for representatives of opposing groups to endure the harsh climb to meet here to engage in peaceful negotiation. Often a representative from the monastery would also be present to ensure that the peace was maintained or even to act as mediator.
The small cave was used as a rest point for pilgrims, unable to make the return trip to the base camp or ascend to the monastery during the same day.
From here, the clouded monastery is another two hours of steep climbing at high altitude.
[ooc]I need a DC 16 Fort save from everyone to avoid being fatigued after the climb.
A large stone building lies nestled in a shallow stone cul-de-sac, hollowed out from the surrounding mountainside. The building shows evidence of poor maintenance—the roof is missing several tiles and the once-proud, central double doors lie in a pile of ruined timbers. The remains of a giant bell, and the wooden structure meant to support and sound it, dominate the center of the flagstone courtyard before the stone structure.
Atop a ten-foot rise of gray stone steps stands a wide paved forecourt surrounded by worn, red-painted wood pillars and faded rust-colored walls. A massive copper bell rests in the center of the area, surrounded by a mess of wooden scaffolds and a carved-smooth tree trunk, all collapsed into a pile around the carillon. The north wall features an intricate mosaic of monks walking on clouds. A pair of staircases flanks the wall, leading up to a ten-foot-high porch and three sets of wooden doors beyond.
Talathel Wolfrider |
Fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Talathel rides beyond the rock formations, not knowing what they are. he does however notice the shallow cave.
"The weather is quite nice, I think we should continue."
Without waiting for the others he rides on, ending up at the monastery.
"That was a nice walk!"
He says as he pets Forch.
"Shall we take a look around this place?"
He starts riding about the place to see if anything stands out. If he finds nothing he will wait on the others before continuing.

"At last, the monastery! Let us explore it - I shall scout ahead if you'll allow me."
Joining action to words, he ventures ahead, casting message beforehand in case he ventures too far. Riding Yoru, the samurai ventures towards the stairs to his right.

With a growl, it tries to scare of the pathfinders.

Hikage remains stalwart in the face of adversity. He glares at the yeti for a split second, before realizing that his mount is terrified by the howl, and is about to run away.
Talathel Wolfrider |
Talathel sees the creature climb out of the rubble and his face takes on a look of confusion, totally unimpressed by the creature's growl.
"Is that a hairy human? I believe I've seen such creatures in books but never one in the wilds. Could we not capture him so everyone in the world will be able to see it? "
He looks down at Forch to see what he thinks.
"He does look a tad dangerous, yes. Maybe not the best idea."

Talathel, unable to exclude Salena from the stream of fire, decides it might be better to distract the creature. He casts ghost sound, creating the sound of fire just behind the yeti's head.
"Why have you ever! Do you see that roaring fire behind the poor creature?!"
