Mykel, i'd like them in order, next time, thanks.
Ironically enough, it would have saved you a drop if you had. ;)
While spreading out to explore the room, each of you, save for Silen, have an encounter with a pit.
Thankfully, the falls are cushioned, turning the falls into non lethal.
Brayden...WHOOoaa: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4
Maladash...NOOOoooo: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Mercutio...Curses....!: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Mykel.....*flailing arms*: 1d6 ⇒ 6
After eventually getting out climbing, you notice one final pit in the center, where a small sack lies below.
Also of note, you had noticed three levers scattered across the room.
Brayden Foxley
|
After recovering from his cushioned fall, Brayden heads over to the pit and levers to inspect them for anything remarkable. With a puzzled look on his face, he takes a close look at the levers.
Perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18
Brayden Foxley
|
"As tempting as it is to pull these levers at random, I will leave that decision up to someone else." The paladin backs away from them. Brayden will climb down into the pit, draw his polearm, and slowly push the sack using it, playing close attention to any traps or pressure plates that may be underneath it.
Maladash, the Paladin of Chaos
|
After arguing a bit and brushing himself off, Maladash gets up.
"I thought it would be like old times. Minotaurs, zombie marathon, the sinking paladin... But this crypt is full of puzzles. I'm not dumb, but... Hey, Mr aristocrat. Maybe you have ideas what to do? However... No, I have another idea. Chaos... guide me!"
He goes and pulls a second lever.
Mykel Therinor
|
Ouch, that hurt.....my pride also...blast it all!
Mykel picks himself up, and checks out the levers.
sorry...thought you wanted the rolls all at once...my bad! Maladash, could you touch me up with my wand please? i can't use it...yet
Mercutio Menschjaeger
|
Having been reminded of his station, Mercutio accepts the challenge. Pulling levers at random sounds like it might be fun, to be perfectly frank, but maybe he can figure it out another way....
DM, could you please mark the levers and the pit in question?
@Mykel: You fell hard, alright, but it's still just nonlethal. I wouldn't worry. Nonlethal damage heals on its own at regular intervals.
| Chyrone |
Locations of levers marked.
Like Brayden, Licen slowly lowers himself into the cushioned pit.
The sack doesn't seem trapped, and after some poking from Brayden at it, Licen opens it.
Aside from strands of fabric from wear, there is a small note in it.
Three to open, but be quick, for the door will only open for those who work together..
Meanwhile Mykel and Maladash are playing with the levers, which go *click* and *clunk*.
| Chyrone |
Three of you pull the levers at the same time.
What follows is a firm sound of a lock twisting, and the door to the south opens.
Run Forrest, or it'll close!
The door will stay open for 1 round, but i reckon you all run and you make it through.
Making it past the door through teamwork, you find yourselves at a fork, either west or east.
And i'm going from your perspective.
Maladash, the Paladin of Chaos
|
Seeing before him the choice, Maladash already knows what to do - he literally ran pulls out a new coin and tosses it!
1 - west, 2 - east: 1d2 ⇒ 1
"Chaos, be a friend, lead us better!"
Brayden Foxley
|
Brayden sits on the ground at the center of the junction. "Back in Andoran, we would pray to the Goddess for guidance." He looks over at Maladash. "Quite the opposite of Chaos, I'm afraid," he laughs before stopping to close his eyes.
"Greatest Iomedae, guide us so that we will choose the correct path in this dark crypt.
I will guard the honor of my fellows, both thought and deed, and I will have faith in them." He is silent for a moment as he seems to be listening.
Opening his eyes, the paladin stands up and says nothing more as he begins walking west with Maladash.

Maladash up front, the evil crypt throws another fork at you.
Ahead, is a door, where faint frantic moans and rambling is coming from.
If you approach...
-------------------
The mournful wailing grows louder with each step toward the door at the end of this musty hallway.
There are a host of bones strewn on the floor here, many of which are cracked and broken.
Picking the lock is a DC 20 disable device.
--------------------
If you don't, the hallway to your right leads to another room.
| Chyrone |
You're not quite there yet, though.
As Licen introduces the door to his crowbar, the wailful sounds stop.
Perception Licen vs door, DC 20: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 Nope, you don't hear it.
Despite the door's lock being busted, the door is barricaded from within, requiring some muscle effort.
3 STR checks, DC 10, to push back the materials barricading the door.

| Chyrone |
With Licen having busted the lock, Maladash politely motions him aside.
At the first attempt at pushing, Maladash loses his grip.
...from a small crack in the door, the tip of something is aimed at him.
Twang: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23Bolt: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Maladash slumps onto his back, a bolt sticking out of his abdomen.
"Be...be gone...foul crypt dwellers, BE GONE!!!"
Maladash, the Paladin of Chaos
|
You know... I'm starting to believe in fate. Jokes aside.
Maladash falls on the floor, with a crossbow bolt protruding from his chest.
"Chaos... I told you... Easy..."
He grunts something else and his eyes closes.

Okay, so here's the thing dissected:
Frightened person is barricaded within, and to get in you need three successful DC 10 str checks, to push aside the debris/furniture.
Maladash made the 1st (and unsuccessful) attempt and got bolted.
From here, it's a switcheroo. You make a push attempt, the one inside gets to do stuff, and so on.
You (the one pushing) do, however, gain a set AC bonus when you succeed in a push.
This is all triggered from the 1st attempt.
Mercutio Menschjaeger

"PLEASE desist, whoever you are! We mean you no harm! We're only here for the local festivities!"

Mercutio looks back at his companions, as if to communicate both 'back me up on this, guys' and 'it isn't me....'
"'Dead one?' Is there someone else in here that we should know about? We're not dead. Most of us here have gotten close enough before that we would know. Perhaps we could...do something about this dead one? We're capable fighters."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Mercutio Menschjaeger

"Dammit!"
Mercutio drags Maladash away from the doorway to dementia and begins administering to him with his wand infernal healing.
Mykel Therinor
|
Mykel follows Brayden closely, leaning in with his buckler to try to deflect the bolts the unknown assailant fires at him.

Brayden's 1st attempt is no success.

Brayden manages to push forward on his 2nd attempt.

Despite Mykel's pulling on the attack, a weak shot hits Brayden in the shoulder.
On his 3rd attempt, Brayden succeeds again.
Bolt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 111d8 ⇒ 3
A failed bolt flies past his head.

One more push....
Mercutio Menschjaeger
|
WAIT. Waitwaitwaitwaitwait. Check back a few posts up - I got 3 successful checks in a row by myself after Maladash's first failed attempt...
| Chyrone |
Yes, but you guys were all rolling for it.
The problem here is, the door can be occupied by 1 person only, as it is a 5ft wide hallway.
The whole scene was triggered by Maladash trying, after which it seems there was alot of switching between your placements, as you all wanted to try.
Maladash (bolted)
Licen takes his spot, but can't get in yet.
Mercutio tries diplomacy, interrupts the rambling.
Brayden is going at it, and we are still currently at it.
Mercutio Menschjaeger
|
Maladash...are you trying to turn into Deadpool? :)
| Chyrone |
With a final push, Brayden shoves aside some furniture and small crates.
In the room, stands a shaky, weary looking man.
Portrait on map.
Maladash wakes up, and will heal up to 7 hp, thanks to Mercutio's wand of infernal healing.

"Who..who are you...what in Kassen's name...?"
Despite his question, he still looks panicked enough to be doing rash things.
Social rolls time.
Brayden Foxley

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Brayden catches his breath after exerting himself, removing the bolt that slightly scraped his shoulder.
"Fear not, friend. Are you alright? We come to retrieve the everflame." Brayden wonders if the man had barricaded himself inside for months.
