UMD(Scroll of Ghostbane Dirge): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
UMD(Emulate Wisdom): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Talan was completely content to have a nice conversation with these newcomers until the new creature appears. He spends a moment in dumbfound confusion as Zax's blade passes right through it before collecting himself.
What he's seen so far is enough to convince him it's incorporeal and thus he pulls out the scroll of Ghostbane dirge from early. Some clever fiddling with it and some fluid mumbling of magic words just barely gets him by at free the magic from the the paper, which he then directs at the spirit.
Move action to draw the scroll, Standard to UMD Ghostbane Dirge at what is probably a ghost. Just barely got it off, whew.

The ghost withers under the massed assault of pathfinders, eventually dissipating into the ether that formed it.
That barbarian and his team look on impressed. "Of course... you couldn't have done it without our help.." he mutters. But out numbered, and obviously out magiced, he has stopped pressing any claim.
"Should you ever need passage north, my ship will be at your disposal."
Looking around the room, you find shards of broken gems in front of two of the bodies seated around the table.
With time on your side now, you continue your exploration of the area, and eventually work out that the coffin in the hidden room contains the body of a sage, which together with the writings lets you learn a lot about magical gems and their ability to store memories.
Talan the Dunedrake
|
Talan will collect up the remains of the gems and then unless someone protests he will use the stone Amenopheus gave them back at the start of this mess to contact him.
"Found old temple. Spirits inside, body of sage, broken gems collected, understanding gained. Torch said others working ahead of us. Awaiting further instructions."

As promised, Amenopheus arrives in an hour. At first he bemoans the loss of the jewel, but he quickly realizes that the shards hold a glimmer of magic and may still contain several of the Ruby Sage’s memories. Amenopheus uses his magic to contact the spirit of the Ruby Sage, who briefly animates her nearby corpse and restores it to how she must have appeared in life.
"My thanks to you for putting my colleague's spirit to rest. The last few days we had here were hard on all of us..."
She explains a bit of what happened.
This the fortress had been abandoned due to changing trade routes and a
lack of resources, so it made an ideal place for the Emerald, Ruby, and Topaz Sages to go to ground. The three hid there, sustained indefinitely by their magic. Gradually, isolation with no end in sight wore at their minds and drove them to internecine conflict, and an outburst of violence left the Topaz Sage dead, the Ruby Sage slain with her jewel shattered, and the Emerald Sage crippled.
As despair and madness set in, the surviving sage elected to take his own life before his thoughts could corrupt the gem’s memories. Despite his selfless intentions in that moment of lucidity, his spirit lingered afterward...
Through the gem, she has maintained a limited degree of awareness, and she also related that until only day before, the topaz and emerald jewels sat on this table alongside her. When the thief handled one of her shards, she was able to read his thoughts before he discarded the fragment and fled. She identifies the thief as a man named Kafar, who had intentions of delivering the jewels to the Diamond Sage in a region known as the Pillars of the Sun. It is there that the Jeweled Sages’ built their sanctum, but it strikes both her and Amenopheus as odd that the Diamond Sage would collect the gems there instead of finding newcandidates to become sages elsewhere in Osirion. Amenopheus voices his concern that the Diamond Sage’s actions are not typical for the order, and he is dismayed that the jewels may be in the hands of known enemies of
the Pathfinder Society.
Sharing her fellow sage’s concern, the Ruby Sage offers her power—mythic power—to you if you are willing to chase down the thief Kafar, reclaim the stolen jewels, and find the Diamond Sage to learn what she intends.
With that said, her corpse slumps and returns to its desiccated form.
Amenopheus notes the difficulty that Silgil has in walking, and offers to remove the cursed stone from him.
"I can teleport us back to Eto to resupply before we head after the thief, following him south."
"the Pillars of the Sun is a very dangerous region of towering rocks, searing wind, and terrible beasts. With the fate of my order riding on you... I will accompany you to the Sanctum of the Sages."
Sorry for a bit of the rushed ending there, we can take part three at a bit more of a relaxed pace thank goodness. Chronicles are linked above. I'll open up a new thread in a couple of days for part three. Please note there are three pages of chronicles for each of you, a regular chronicle, and two 'mythic' chronicles

Alright.
Reporting is done. I have created a new game for part three. Please pop your details in http://paizo.com/campaigns/PFSCORE0516SanctumOfTheSages/discussion#1]here and then go and dot the gameplay thread. I'll probably be a couple of days before I put my initial post up.
A number of you will be levelling up, so you might want to double check the initiative block I have for you is correct. Please also look at the mythic chronicles, as you will need to be familiar with them and make some decisions. Also when you put your details in, those mythic chronicles count as (0xp) chronicles, so you'll want to take that into account when working out your next chronicle number.
And when I see you all in over there, I'll mark this as inactive
