@Varian: Yes, Gears can understand that. It's assumed the grease area is from the goblin square and behind, and to grapple, you do not need to enter the target's square. So all is good :) Although it doesn't matter for that target...
Gears goes to grapple the goblin.
Gears CMB @ G6: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
However, the greased up goblin proves far harder to hold onto than expected!
It doesn't matter though as the distraction is all Varian needed to slam his hammer on the goblin's head. An audible crack is followed by the thud as blood pours out from the wound.
@Shilyn: With Amnur pushing the goblin away with his shield, you finally get into a good position and your rapier pierces right through the goblin's liver. It clutches it's stomach and falls down, motionless on the floor.
Only 1 remaining, waiting a bit longer for Gryne and Mylvwara's actions to finish it!

![]() |

"That's two!," she says as the goblin slips off her rapier to the floor. Shilyn gives Amnur a grin before sticking the prone goblin once more for good measure.

![]() |

Amnur smiles as the goblin goes down, then looks up at the face of the exultant half-elf, Not bad. But I softened him up for you." and laughs even as he wipes away some more blood which had leaked out. He turns to look down the hallway Orion ran, wondering how the fight is proceeding with the others. "One of us should go back to the north to get the drop of them."
Sorry if I'm exceeding my speech limit per round, just passing the time really. :)

![]() |

If I miss this time I'm throwing my computer through the window.
Gryne will take another half defeated swing at the Goblin(G6) giving in to his combination of frustration and rage.
ATK: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
DAM: 2d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 + 1 = 9
HOLY HELL!!!!! This is ridiculous, good thing I'm in my office and didn't pay for this computer.

![]() |

my map still shows g3 is up but not sure... so Varian will tell Gears to attack Goblin2 down the corridor (hoping gears doesn't fall in the grease) and he will whip around and attack G3 himself
to hit g3: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
dmg if hits: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 6, 3) + 3 = 15

![]() |

Recap: G6 and G5 have finally been dropped. Only G3 and G2 (who is blinded and stunned for a bit longer) remain.
Revelling in the newfound strength, Orion backs up once more for a final double shot (this actually works since he now has enough strength to fully use his composite bow!)
Orion arrow @ G3: 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 - 2 + 1 = 7
Damage on hit: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
Orion arrow @ G3: 1d20 + 7 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 - 2 + 1 = 24
Damage on hit: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12
While the first arrow whizzes over the goblin's head, the second goes straight into its throat! The goblin lurches to the ground, coughing up blood, but shows no other signs of activity.
G3 is down!
Combat's effectively over assuming someone gets to G2 in 2 rounds to take care of him :)

![]() |

Varian tells Gears "Go get that last goblin, Gears. Kill it."
He follows right behind Gears and tries to smack the last goblin with his hammer.
to hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
dmg if hits: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4, 1) + 3 = 9
ouch, well hopefully Gears can hit the thing

![]() |

I dismiss my grease spells so that Gears and Varian may move freely.
Then I get out my notebook and start sketching the weird goblin mutations.
As I peer at the motley corpses, I mutter,
"The things I do in the name of research."

search bodies? collect treasure? find a tavern and have a little fun before starting next scenario?

![]() |

Varian doesn't expect much from the bodies of the mutant goblins, but he searches nonetheless. He casts detect magic to make sure he hasn't missed anything before giving it up as a lost cause. When done, whether he finds anything or not, he shrugs to the others and says, "I guess it's about time to leave this place."
day job, craft: weapons: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Varian collects the ring, wincing at the severed finger, wondering as to the fate of the one who lost the ring. Was he slain, or did he lose his finger in combat and survive? Perhaps taking the ring back with us, might answer some questions? Perhaps delving deeper into the dungeon might answer questions as well?

Amnur grimaces, "At least it was in a pouch and not the things stomach! These were incredibly tough little buggers. I wondered if we'd manage to hit them at all at one point." The dwarf is holding a bloody hand to his neck as he talks, evidence of the fierceness of the battle.

![]() |

"Let me fix that, my friend."
cure light wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

![]() |

Amnur pulls his hand away, grimacing slightly, but only for a moment. "Thank you Varian, that was starting to tickle." and gives the aasimar a wink.

@Varian: To be nice GM... there are no more combats to worry about, so don't dock yourself a wand charge :)
The party, gathering themselves up, exit the ruins once more. The warmth and light of the sun feels like a blessing from Sarenrae herself as you return to the surface. What stares and looks you received when first entering the ruins triple as you walk out with the automaton in tow, following Varian's every move.
Unfortunately, the power stone, cracked from the demolishing of the drilling machine millennia ago, fades out and Gears stands immobile, now an interesting curiosity to guests visiting the Green Forest Inn (unless you do feel like dragging the 1,000 pound construct with you).
The letter, artifacts, and formulae book all intrigue Adril Hestram, even if much of it is beyond his knowledge to understand.
Now, how the rest of this pans out depends on a few things. First, who wants in on another game?
Second, do you want to go down deeper into Thornkeep, or try another PFS scenario to get some more good RP in outside of the dungeon delving?
Finally, does anyone else want to GM? If not, I have three different scenarios in mind I'll run.
The Glass River Rescue (1-5); Sewer Dragons of Absalom (3-7); Night March of Kalkamedes (1-5)

![]() |

Assuming we get 3 xp for this module, Varian will be one xp shy of 4th lvl, so I'd love doing a 1xp scenario before delving further into the dungeon. On that note, I've played Glass River Rescue already, but the other two are fine with me

![]() |

I want to play more. I'd like to do whatever, Varians suggestion is good for me. I'm a bit strapped for time to GM, but if you're sick of it I can try and move some things around.

![]() |

I don't mind too much; all of the scenarios I've listed are ones that I've been wanting to run :) Although I do need to break out either Oriandor or one of my many slew of other level 3-4s I've gotten recently at some point :P
I guess the last question is do you guys want a 6th? Brayden with Orion is a possibility if he's free (he has yet to level up to 3 as he should, so he'll be of a viable level) or I can recruit someone else if you wish.

![]() |

I'll be level 3 after 3 xp from this.
I'm cool to run anything. I don't mind a 1xp quickie so Varian levels up and then back into a longer one.

![]() |

I approve of Varian's plan.
Would I be able to check out the letter, artifacts and formulae book? What with all my skills (and skillz, mad skillz).

![]() |

@Mylvwara: Of course, although the formulae book would only hold intellectual value unless you feel like multi-classing into alchemist :P If so, then I'll allow you to copy the formulae there.
With your skillz, mad skillz, you can tell that the formulae in the book are as follows.
All level 0 formulae.
Level 1: Ant Haul, Bomber's Eye, Comprehend Languages, Cure Light Wounds, Expeditious Retreat, Shield, True Strike
Level 2: Fire Breath, Invisibility, Levitate
Also, as a PS... one of the artifacts is on the chronicle sheet :) And it's a good one!

![]() |

Cool! Rehearsals have been keeping me busy, but I'll have Chronicle sheets out later today! On Monday... new game will start!
The other part of the note from Adril Hestram is that you are called to Magnimar, the city of monuments in Varisia. He informs you that Sheila Heidmarch has made a personal request for a team to handle an unusual situation and that as a favor to the fledgling Venture-Captain, he offered his crack-team of Pathfinders to her service. It is noted that this mission is to be kept on the down low, but the reasons why are note included in the missive. However, a sizeable amount of coin to cover travel expenses as well as the finder's fee for the various goods returned to the lodge will suit everyone well on their journey to the coast.
At this point, feel free to RP and relax in the Discussion thread. Also, if you want to make any special purchases, let me know! Everyone will be getting 3,711 gp and 4 Fame/PP. There is one special item on the chronicle sheet though, worth 2,000 gp I would suggest looking into. It's quite a fun one!

![]() |

Amnur takes the message in the note in stride, chuckling at the part about a 'crack team'. "More like cracked team!" he exclaims ruefully, rubbing a hand over several new dents and dings.

![]() |

"An invitation to Heidmarch manor, wow!"
Amnur looks over, wondering if he should be impressed, "What's this Hide-march manor business? Something special?"

![]() |

I think my character who's been to Heidmarch manor is Lore... Don't think Varian's been there before.... can't recall for sure, sigh... Anyway -going on the assumption that it was Lore who was there before.. I think it was for Rise of the Goblin Guild or something of that sort. Anyway...
"I'm with Amnur here... what is special about this Heidmarch manner, Mylv?"

![]() |

"You're kidding me? Sheila Heidmarch has got almost a dozen chronicles in the library. They're the Society's gateway to the glorious ruins of Varisia! Apparently, the manor is almost a museum in its own right. If half of the stories are true then I am thrilled to visit them."
I can barely contain my giddiness and everyone gets to hear Mylvwara giggle.

![]() |

Amnur actually starts as Mylvie starts giggling and he takes a quick half step away, as if worried she'll suddenly lunch at his face like a rabid monkey. "That's wonderful Myvlie. Sounds like fun. Right everyone? Sounds like fun right?"

![]() |

Ahhhhh, the giggle of an Elf....the only way to give life to a unicorn. Gryne chuckles and snorts as he puts his arm on Amnur's shoulder....
I have never been to this manor either. If Mylv is so joyful I can only imagine how beautiful it is....or perhaps a dusty old library. Gryne shrugs his shoulders...They certainly would welcome this fine group of pathfinders, bring on the the next adventure.

![]() |

"Personally, I don't see what the fuss is, but hey, as long as Gryne's buying, I say let's go." With a grin at the dwarf she says, "After all, I saved your hide.. oh wait.. that was Amnur's hide.. again." With a soft laugh, she gathers her gear to follow the others.

![]() |

The heavily armored dwarf opens his mouth to protest Shi's claim, but the halfelf is already walking away. So he just scowls at her back and clangs angrily after her, throwing a corroboratory arm around Gryne for good measure. "And the quips of half-elves are enough to kill newborn unicorns."

![]() |

Varian winces at Amnur's comment and chuckles... "... ouch."

![]() |

Your farewell from Thornkeep is actually met with some tears. Shandar and his wife Jalia throw a party at the Greenforest Inn, complete with lots of apple brandy, Taldan honeywine, and homemade apple cakes from the missus. Brother Eldrast himself leads a number of "prayer toasts", wishing you all a safe trip. Even Iliara visits the shindig, offering her respect to Mylvwara for her part in the research of the magical ruins under Thornkeep.
The next morning is followed by a slow wakeup after a significant evening of food and revelry. The morning "crowds" are the same, but out of the corner of your eye, three goblins from the goblin bazaar wave tearfully at you, bellowing out no doubt another song that would be amusing to anyone but the recipient.
