@Varian: Missed your post there! Came in when I was working on the botting post! On that note... it survived your damage, but waiting on Gryne and Amnur to see if either one of them will either soften it up so you get the killing blow, or one of them takes it from you! That being said, hopefully they can hit it as you and Amnur are gonna be hurting otherwise :P

Amnur missed in the first round? I never saw his attack get resolved.
After nearly getting bashed into stone by the raging elemental, Amnurs eyes widen, not with alarm, but rather impressed by the creature before them. How to get one of these for a pet... he wonders to himself.
Seeing the rain of blows on the monster, Amnur swings once more, trying to chop this beautiful earth monster to rubble.
Waraxe Attack & Damage: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 191d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
*EDIT* Also, I'm fairly certain Orion threatened a crit on at least one of his last shots.

![]() |

@Amnur: Double d'oh! Alas, I did forget to account for your attack.
Declaring combat over with the following.
Amnur smashes the thing once, ripping out part of its chest. Orion's arrows smashes its head off. Amnur then slams into it a second time, taking out a shoulder. Finally, Varian's massive hammer hits like an ogre, reducing the elemental into rubble.

![]() |

Aha! Good thing I only said 'fairly certain' or I would've really sounded like a jack-A just then. Ahrm ;)
Panting in the moments after battle, Amnur watches with quiet glee as Varian displays his power and prowess, "While I'll likely never get used to you growing weapons out your arms... you can sure handle yourself!" and claps his taller friend on the shoulder. Flicking some specks of rubble off his armored shoulders, he surveys the room again, "Well, I don't think I can take the drill, though I'd like to! Anything in here worth salvaging?" He gives one more look around, then moves to peer down the north west exit, casting detect evil for good measure.

![]() |

Sensing and seeing nothing he looks back at Shi and the others, "Looks clear and free of evil. Shi, care to lead the way O' Trapfinding One?"

![]() |

Remembering the unperused rubble, Amnur backtracks a little, making sure this room gets its due diligence. Wouldn't want this room to feel under appreciated! he muses to himself as he turns over stones and inspects the drill.
Perception Assist - Search the drill and Rubble: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 *sigh*

![]() |

Varian, keeping the earthbreaker in hand in case something else shows up in the next 2 minutes, casts detect magic again and searches for the source of the aura.
perc: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

![]() |

time: 1d6 ⇒ 2
@Amnur: I'll keep your initial Perception roll Looking through (roughly 1 minutes time). You happen to find a pair of leather bound books that, unlike the others, aren't rotten or turning to dust upon. However, it's in a language you cannot comprehend.
@Varian: The magical aura inside the drill still registers, although it's going to take two minutes and some strength to get the drill out enough to break into the chassis.

![]() |

"Amnur, wanna give me a hand here... there's something magical deep in the drill... Maybe if you lend your strength a little, we can work together to get it out."
If necessary, he'll try to tap gently with the earthbreaker to break into the chassis, being very careful though not to break anything beyond the chassis itself.

![]() |

Amnur considers the books he's found, looking at them quizzically for a moment before handing them over to Myvie, "A present for you." he says with a grin.
Moving over to assist Varian, the dwarf lends his strength to cracking into the drill, his curiosity piqued.
Str (break into drill): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

![]() |

Shaking her head at the two trying to use force to open the drill. "You know, there may be an easier way," she says as she walks over sheathing her rapier to give the drill a good thorough look..
perception take 20: 20 + 12 = 32

![]() |

Mylv notes that they're in Draconic, and cover all sorts of ancient magical and alchemical theories that makes her all sorts of elven giddy.
Amnur Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Amnur, despite the sliding rocks that try to bury him, manages to pull the drill out. Shilyn with little effort, then cracks the chassis open. Inside, there is a glowing yellow crystal that still pulses with magical energy.

![]() |

Leaving the crystal in place, she turns around, blows on her fingertips and winks at the two. "Brains over brawn.. I'm good, what can I say?" With a giggle, she wanders over to the other door..

![]() |

"Mylv... can you use your knowledge of such things to tell what this crystal is?"

![]() |

no problem, I figured that.

![]() |

Gryne will spend time looking at his Hammer as if there is something wrong with it. He will create water on it and clean it. There you go baby.....did you need a bath?
When done, Gryne will sketch the drill and earthen foe in his journal.

![]() |

Leaving the crystal in place, she turns around, blows on her fingertips and winks at the two. "Brains over brawn.. I'm good, what can I say?" With a giggle, she wanders over to the other door..
The dwarf gives Shi a sly look, clearing his throat, "How about, 'thanks for pulling that drill from the rubble, because without you two strong gentlemen we'd never have had a chance to get the crystal'... Or, you know, something similar to that." Amnur winks broadly at Varian, quite pleased with his little joke.

![]() |

Shilyn casts a glance over at Amnur and replies, "Well, there's only a couple problems with your hypothesis; one," she counts off on her fingers as she speaks, "you're not gentle. Always charging in breaking things.. and two, I can't call you men as you're obviously a dwarf, and Varian is Aasimar. Since I have no wish to insult either of you therefore, i believe thanking the gentlemen would be highly inappropriate and very subject to mis-interpretation."
She casts a quick wink toward Mylvwara as she concludes.

![]() |

Amnur starts to protest Shi's quip, but then just shrugs and nods, "You have a point. Not bad for a half-elf." Walking over to the crystal inspection he gives it a brief scrutiny, "So how do we turn it on?" he asks, clearly wanting to see the thing in action.

![]() |

Amnur recalls the last encounter with an animated machine, and the bonk on the noggin he took, "Do you think that's wise Myvie? Do you have a way to control it if it turns on us?"

![]() |

"Well, you could always use another bonk on the head," she says to Amnur with a giggle. Turning to Mylv, she continues, "Do you think that would be wise? I mean, we've already had to destroy a couple of those constructs. They're a bit tough."

![]() |

Looking at Mylv, Shilyn shrugs, "Well, if Amnur doesn't mind a few more bonks on the head, I sure don't mind," she says with a grin, "Let's give it a try."

![]() |

Varian shrugs in regards to the two statues and using the crystal on one of them. "It could be fascinating to see if it works, but I have concerns about having to fight and destroy the construct if it turns on us. We have no idea how to control it if it does animate."

![]() |

Pushing a strand of hair back from her eyes, Shilyn gives pause a moment. "Well, we could give it a try. I've controlled one big construct before, I should be able to do it to a smaller one," she says with a grin, "Well, at least I somewhat controlled it.. beings I was unconscious at the time, but I remember some of it.. mostly. Should work.. maybe.. I think.."

![]() |

Amnur tosses his hands up in the air, "Fine, turn on one of the durned things. It wasn't that tough!" and grins in anticipation of a possible fight.

![]() |

Yay!
The party heads back to the southern lab room. Amnur flanks Mylvwara while the rest of the party bears arms, just in case the thing goes berserk.
The elven wizard takes the glowing yellow crystal and inserts it into the chest slot. The slot then sinks back into its body and another gear protects the magical energy source as the arms begin to rise up, almost in a stretching motion. The gears whir as it steps out of its alcove; the construct then stands without any ill-action towards the party.

![]() |

Varian shrugs and tells the construct, "take one step forward," to see if it obeys commands.

![]() |

"Well, that didn't work... Mylv, you put the crystal in, why don't you try telling it what to do?"

![]() |

Amnur relaxes a little as the thing doesn't immediately attack, "Stand, stay!" He chuckles, "Looks like it just does what I say Varian."

![]() |

I grin, thrilled that the power source is working, "Can you speak? If so, reply: if not, raise a limb to show that you understand my words."
I shrug and look at the other, "Start with the simple things. We might have to find a control device if this doesn't work."

![]() |

"Or maybe it doesn't respond to the Common tongue. You could always try other languages too." Varian responds before the statue has time to react.

![]() |

Varian tries the same command in a succession of languages, taking a cue from Mylv.
"Please raise your right arm if you understand me."
He begins with Common again, just as a test and so the others will know what he's saying, followed by Celestial, Infernal, Abyssal, goblin, draconic, and giant. He pauses after each language to give the construct time to respond before going on to the next one.
If there's no response to any of them, he turns to Amnur and motions for him to proceed. "Try it in Dwarven my friend."
