"Push on, I think. We can leave that door shut and hopefully leave whatever is behind it to rest."
I peer over Shi's shoulder and grin mischievously, Shi, what caused those lights?"
spellcraft, if I can take ten: 10 + 10 = 20
spellcraft, otherwise: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
I know what you did :D

![]() |

Shilyn blinks at Mylv's question. "Um.. not sure really. It was dark, I needed light and.." she says with a shrug. "Next thing I know, *poof*.. lights." She gives the elven woman a sullen look. "Um.. did I do something wrong?"

![]() |

With no spellcraft skill, Varian has no idea what Shi did, so he's as confused as she is by what she might or might not have done... "Perhaps it was the will of the Gods? Or some kind of wishcraft?" he suggests in a soft voice. "Whatever it was, I'm glad it aided your vision... tell us, Shi... what do you see ahead?"

![]() |

Shilyn lets the others know of the corridor to the south and how it looks as if something had dug its way through. Her eyes keep darting from the others to the twin balls of light until they finally dim into nothingness once again.

![]() |

Gryne addresses the group...I say we push forward, I'd hate to leave whatever dug that hole behind us ready to ambush at any moment.
Perception check down the hall - 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 darkvision as well
Looking at the hole, how about knowledge nature to determine what type of creature could create that. - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Probably a hole created by a family of moles. It should be completely safe to explore.

![]() |

Ya know, I can see a bit more clearly now. I must still be blinded by the odor of burning half-elf. It looks like we have a nice spider infestation ahead in the tunnel's opening to the south.

![]() |

"Why did it have to be spiders.. I hate spiders..."

![]() |

Thanks Vaaian.. now I got that silly song "I don't like spiders or snakes.." stuck in my head.. although it was a nice play on Indy heh
With a shrug, Shilyn draws her rapier and proceeds quietly forward, keeping an eye open for any spiders lingering.

![]() |

Varian follows behind Gryne... no weapon out, but ready to make whatever he needs.

![]() |

Botting Amnur since, well... he WOULD want to take the lead knowing something to smash was nearby!
Amnur steps in front of Shilyn his darkvision providing better sighting until Shilyn's light comes around. Inspecting the chamber to the south...
Amnur Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Gryne Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Shilyn Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Varian Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
??? Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
??? Stealth: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
As they turn the corner, everyone know sees what Gryne's guess could only hint at; thick webbing covered in tiny spiders... and their mother, the size of a large horse!
Giant Spider Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Alerted by the light and the clanging of Amnur's armor, the giant vermin screeches and starts skittering towards the party, along with her brood!

![]() |

Giant Spider: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Baby Spider swarm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Amnur: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Gryne: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Mylvwara: 1d2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Orion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Shilyn: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Varian: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Init Order:
Gryne
Orion
Amnur
Swarm
Varian
Giant Spider
Shilyn
Mylvwara
I'll be botting Amnur/Orion, but you're up first Gryne!

![]() |

Thar she blows!
Gryne lets loose an arrow into Mama.
Round 1:
ATK: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Dam: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Had to edit because I didn't put the right dice.

![]() |

Going to try my hand at this magic thing..
Seeing the giant spider before them, Shilyn lets out a soft gasp as her hand tightens on her rapier. Her eyes darken a bit as her left hand extends toward the creature and she starts muttering softly..
concentration: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
If successful..
and a single dark bolt of energy flies toward the spider..
ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Well, I hope I did that right..:)

Botting Amnur & Orion
Orion moves up and launches an arrow into 'Mama' as well.
Orion arrow @ 'Mama': 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 1 = 7
Damage on hit: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 1 = 11
And the arrow bounces off of the ceiling.
Amnur, with a mighty, "ROANOOOOCK" charges forward to Mama!
Amnur axe @ 'Mama': 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage on hit: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
With a mighty cleaves, the dwarf cuts into one of the spider's legs, nearly severing it.
The spider's hatchlings begin to assault Amnur.
Swarm damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
However, the dwarf's stone-like skin prevents the baby spiders from injuring him!
Everyone else post your actions, but Mama has only one thing to do that is going to happen unless Varian crits VERY hard :P
With a screech, the giant spider lurches forward to bite the paladin.
'Mama' bite @ Amnur: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage on hit: 1d8 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 - 1 = 13
The spider severely returns pain to Amnur with its poison-dripping fangs.
Amnur Fort save vs poison: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 2 = 22
The venom does nothing to halt the dwarf's onslaught.

![]() |

Varian creates a lucerne hammer as a swift action and stands behind Amnur, striking out at the massive spider, hoping for a nasty wound on the critter...
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
1d12 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
well, darn, that could have been better.. I hope it at least hit!

![]() |

alchemist fire, but really need to concentrate on mama before she kills amnur ;)

![]() |

@Shilyn: I'm sorry, I forgot to note your magical results! Typically, you only need a concentration check when either casting defensively or trying to still control a spell if you get attacked during casting. Because nothing is threatening you or damaging you, no need to make a concentration check! Furthermore, if you did, you would have failed! The DC of a concentration check to cast defensively is 15 + (2x level of spell), or 17 for a level 1 spell. However, no worries there.
Finally, Magic Missile requires no attack roll! Some spells do, and in their description, it will be noted (typically either a melee touch attack or ranged touch attack, although sometimes it'll be noted in the spell stats as a ray, which means ranged touch attack, too). Magic Missile though, like Fireball, just needs to be pointed at a target, and it will affect them.
Thus, for Magic Missile, the only rolls you need to do are the Arcane Spell Failure chance (15% for your armor) and the damage (which you did correctly). So 2 damage to 'Mama'!
@Mylv: Still need your action! Do note that unlike other scenarios... there isn't anything saying you can't retreat and resupply outside (or even rest at the inn overnight), although I do have right as GM to change things just a lil bit if it makes sense for those aware of your presence now :P
@Orion: but yours is noted for round 2 Gryne! Although I would believe Amnur wouldn't run much. He's the only thing keeping Mama from trying to 2-shot the others... but that's just my presumption based on how he's played in other games. Hope Amnur and Orion can post again soon!

Round 1 Recap:
Gryne and Orion fire their ranged weapons into Mama, but only Gryne hits.
Amnur charges up and smashes Mama hard.
The baby spiders attack Amnur to protect Mama, but Amnur shrugs it off.
Varian smashes mama as well.
Mama attacks Amnur, hurting the dwarf severely, but the paladin resists the poison.
Shilyn breaks her Magic Missile cherry.
Mylvwara scribbles notes, hoping to get an accurate description before the party smashes things to bits.
Round 2 go!

![]() |

@Gryne: Your arrow bounces off of the chitin of Mama.
Orion this time tries to double tap 'Mama' and provide cover fire for Amnur.
Rapid Shot 1 @ Mama: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage on hit: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Rapid Shot 2 @ Mama: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage on hit: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
One of Orion's arrows pierces the shell, but Mama still mad!
Amnur continues to swing hard to take down the giant spider, ignoring the babies trying to bite him.
Amnur axe @ Mama: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage on hit: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
However, the irritation of having a bunch of baby spiders is starting to get to the dwarf.
The baby spider swarm moves over onto Amnur & Varian, coating the eastern wall of the room with spiderlings.
Baby spider swarm damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Amnur and Varian are both injured.
Amnur Fort save: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 2 = 11
Varian Fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Both men do resist the weak, but painful, venom the hatchlings inject into them.
Varian up first, but posting Mama's action. Everyone else please post!
Mama continues to attack Amnur, lunging forward with her powerful fangs.
Mama bite @ Amnur: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Damage on hit: 1d8 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 1 = 9
Amnur gets his shield in this time, shoving it into Mama's face.
Everyone, kill the spiders! They're everywhere!

no updated combat map or no need for one?

![]() |

Varian, having a hard decision to make... struggles with his desire to put the killing blow on mama and his worry for Amnur taking so much damage from two sources... and possibly being poisoned, or worse. He slips his hand to his belt and grabs a small flask, throwing it 10 feet in front of himself, knowing Amnur will only take a small bit of the damage.
Alchemist fire at the swarm directly in front of himself, it looks like it is in the square 10 feet away (not directly in front of Varian, but the one just beyond that. which means Amnur AND mama spider will each take 1 pt of splash dmg
alch. fire damage, 1st round: 1d6 ⇒ 2
well that was crap for damage, sorry guys, hope next round is more

![]() |

Shilyn holds her place, rapier in hand, ready to step in and assist Amnur and Varian, but unable to do so without risking accidentally skewering one of her friends.
Doesn't look like there's room, so I'll hold, ready to move up if need be.. I could always poke over the dwarf, but you know how sensitive they can be about that.. :)

![]() |

Gryne growing angry at the perseverance of Mama, Lets another arrow fly.
Round 3:
Longbow of Doom
ATK: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
DAM: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Amnur, quit playing around and finish this nuisance.
Block that chit Mama!
Couldn't resist it.

![]() |

Concerned about Amnur's health, I try to aim an acid dart at the spider attacking him.
touch attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Willing to move where needed to strike as long as not in threat range of beasties.

![]() |

Round 2 Recap:
Gryne fires, misses Mama.
Orion fires twice at Mama, hits once (5).
Amnur swings, misses Mama.
Baby spiders crawl on Varian & Amnur (4 damage each), no poison.
Varian throws alchemists fire, does some damage.
Mama bites Amnur, misses.
Shilyn holds back.
Mylvwara kill steals Mama with crit acid dart in the face.
Round 3: Leave no spider survivors!

![]() |

2nd round alchemist fire dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Varian backs up (hopefully out of the swarm) and throws a second alchemist fire at the swarm.
alchemist fire, 1st round dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 5
that's better
"I've only got one more of these... I hope someone else has some area affect attacks."

![]() |

@Varian: Interesting thing about Alchemists fire and swarms: swarms take 50% extra damage from them!
With the second glass shattering the ground, Varian cooks off enough of the spiders that the few remaining ones disperse.
Combat is now over!
Varian Percep: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Varian, at first you feel relieved that the spider threat is eliminated... but you hear the sound of squeaking coming from the room behind you.

![]() |

"Incoming! I hear something squeaking... coming up behind us!" He turns to face whatever this new foe might be as he casts lead blades. HE looks down the passage to the room the sounds are coming from, hoping his darkvision will allow him to see whatever the threat might be.
"Amnur, do you need healing before we face a new threat?"

![]() |

Shilyn moves a bit farther down the tunnel to stand near Varian and Amnur. Her rapier held ready should a new threat come their way.

![]() |

Amnur lifts his arms up with a grimace, "Not about to turn down some healing if you've got it Varian." the dwarf nods stoically.
-13 and -4 damage, reduced by 1 DR each = -15hp damage. Right? So HP 23/37 at the moment if I'm correct. Can you confirm GM?

![]() |

Gotcha, 22/37. Help Varian! :)
Getting some bonks from the healy stick a much refreshed Amnur turns to face the new threat, hefting weapon and shield and rolling his thick dwarven shoulders to loosen then up for combat.
