Iron Feathers

Iron Feathers hands a wand to Myletta. "Please remove these snake bites.", he asks, taking deep breaths as his muscles spasm somewhat from his now ended adrenaline rush.
Fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Going to roll for 'em just to save time.

Iron Feathers follows his fellow tengu's search, looking for tracks. Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

There are some tracks around. Mostly hoof prints.
Anyone with trained knowledge checks may feel free to make them and I'll let you know if you can identify them. The DC is 20
The baron looks at the prints and declares "Antelope. They probably fled this area duringthe hunt and trampled the tiger tracks.
The baron proclaims "This is where we should set up our ambush. That kill is fresh, which means the tiger will likely be back to finish its meal later tonight.
He instructs the team on setting up machans, a type of portable hunters blind in the trees around the clearing. These are twenty feet up in the lower branches of the trees and camouflaged by branches and leaves. Each can hold up to three people.
"Okay, lets climb up and wait. "[b]Don't descend once night falls, lest you wish to come face to face with the angry tiger in the dark."
DC10 climb checks to get up or down using a ladder, or 15 without. I'll assume you can all get up okay to begin with. Put yourself up on the map in one of the trees.
"Keep your lights out too." warns the baron.
As night falls the gungle is completely dark. The clearing remains dimly lit by the light of the room.
Okay, actions or preparations folk want to make?

Assuming someone can assist Velinov, he'll move up. He will also cast ghost sound occasionally to mask the noise of the party by enhancing the sound of the river just a few decibels.
George Chadwick Parker

Parker shivers a bit as he sees the state of the antelope. "Well, I don' feel like goin' to the business side o' them teeth'n'nails. I reckon I can land a decent first strike from up there, an' if I'm lucky, I ain't even gonna need to come down there." He looks in his backpack, trying to figure out if something there could be useful. "I got me this here ton o' lamp oil. One of them servants said tigers are 'fraid of fire, so we can probably set it around the body, try an' make it go where we want it to go? Maybe with a vial of that alchemical liquid fire?" He asks, pulling out a massive sack of lamp oil.
Parker's idea would be to lay the lamp oil around the carcass in a circle or semi-circle, and when the tiger appears, someone to toss alchemist's fire on the oil, leading the tiger where we want him, Iron Feathers or the other frontliners waiting for him.

It has been dark for a while, but now sounds breaks the silence.
"Help, Baron. It is I Count Matsanda! I came to help but now I can't find you and I seem to be stuck in mud of the river..."
Feel free to roll perception checks, it is too dark to see anything yet.
"You Idiot" yells the Baron. "There is a tiger out there and you'll scare him off!"
The baron makes no move to climb down.
George Chadwick Parker
|
"Ain'cha worried about him being attacked by the tiger, Your Highness?", says Parker, eyes glancing around. "Git over here, Count, by the trees!", says Parker, hopefully loud enough for the count to hear. Turning to Iron Feathers next to him, he mutters. "Weell... guess the count meant well. He tries to impress the baron real good, though, with questionable decisions, don'tcha think?", his head poking over the edge of the wooden floor.

"Lovely, and here I was expecting to have a nice, quit evening camping in a tree above the gods forsaken jungle."
Looking over the side of the hide, he shrugs. "Shall we jump?"

That's a good idea Velinov.
After Velinov has lit up the area Myrd throws a splinter at the tiger. During it's flight the splinter elongates until it is a spear. Myrd's aim was true and the spear embeds itself in the enemy's hide!

A shard of ice jabs next to the wooden spear. Parker raises his finger and blows away several snowflakes.

Light is touch, so Velinov can cast it on a stone and throw it at the base of the barons tree. Ranged touch 4 increments to hit: 1d20 + 1 - 8 ⇒ (9) + 1 - 8 = 2direction: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Velinov throws a light spell on a stone and tosses it over the river. His aim is a bit off, but the 'tiger' is large enough that even so you can see its rear end. It is a massive beast.
Climbing down a double move would reach 5' above the ground, a distance from which you could safely drop. It would attract an attack of opportunity though
Myrd hurts a splinter at the tiger, which seems to hurt it, and causes it to roar loudly. Then a snowball appears to break the heat and badly damage the tiger too.

The baron raises his musket and fires at the now lit up creature.
attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
damage: 1d12 ⇒ 6
At such close range, the creature has no way to avoid it!
The "tiger", mortally wounded, races up the tree to try and put an end to the Baron.
"Help me!" it says, mimicking the counts voice in an uncanny manner.
attack, charge: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
The beast grabs hold of the Baron with his massive teeth, and even as it is falling from the tree, tries to pull him with it!
trip: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
The baron too falls!
falling damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7
But lands on top of the creature. Mortally wounded it looks satisfied that it took the baron with it as the nasty bleed from the wooden spear continues to pump the creatures life blood out of it.
Unfortunately for it, the baron then gets (shakily) to his feet.
"What is that thing?"

Combat over! That Snowball is pretty nasty.
Closer examination shows that while it has the haunches and tail of a tiger. Along its flank there is a big scar, that looks like a bullet wound - possibly from the Baron five years ago.

Myrd retrieves an ioun torch from his pack and sets it orbitting around his head. He then climbs down and joins the others at the tiger.
Closer examination shows that while it has the haunches and tail of a tiger.
Is something missing there? I would expect something along the lines of "while it has the haunches and tail of a tiger it has the face of a monkey"
Myrd whips out his wand "Baron, do you mind if I heal you with this devilblood wand? It will make you feel awful while it does its work, but afterwards your wounds will be significantly lessened."
George Chadwick Parker
|
"What the bleedin' hell was that thing? It ain't no ordinary tiger, that much's obvious.", says Parker, still on the canopy. "I ain't comin' down 'til y'all say it's dead." He scratches his scalp under the hat. "How'd y'all reckon it knew how the Count sounded like? Could it have met us? Would the guy be all right?"
GM Aerondor

oopse, quite right
While the rear end looks like a tiger, the face is more of a hyena. But rather than teeth the creature has hard ridges of bone lining its jaws. It is no tiger.
The Baron looks right worried at Parkers suggestion. "I'm not too sure. Certainly as soon as it is light we should head off and find him. I hope the lad is already. I know I'm hard on him, but my daughter loves him and I'd hate to break bad news to her - especially as he is only here to help me.."
He shudders as he looks at the want offered by Myrd. "I've had one before..." after a moment he sighs and nods his ascent. The baron grabs a leather strap and bites on it while the foul magic works its healing on him.
Knock off either one or two charges, the baron will turn down a third use saying the pain of the wand is worse than his remaining wounds.

"I know you are keen to get to that temple. I can handle everything from here if you wanted to press ahead without me.." says the baron.

"Well...", Parker scratches his head under his hat. "It's... uhm... ugly?" Slowly and carefully going down the tree, he comments. "Y'all think it's dead? 'Cause, if it ain't, we should take it outta its misery.", keeping a constant eye on the tiger.

The baron puts his musket next to the creatures body - hopefully near the heart and pulls the trigger.

"Boy, I'm heading off to where we hope the count will be meeting us" roars the Baron.

The Baron grumbles a little about not needing a nurse maid for the last few decades but eventually agrees to have the team accompany him. It is expected to be a days travel, but urgency lends speed to your feet, and it is mid afternoon when you come to the lodge. There you find the Count, elephant and porters, all in good cheer but surprised to see you so soon.
"Baron!" exclaims the count when he hears of the events. He fusses over the old man and admires the dead creatures skin and head.
You can rest the night in the lodge, or head off to look for it straight away.
"Nasty swmap that" admits the Baron. "I could come along and guide you to the temple if you like."
Myrd Sharpclaw

"That would be appreciated Baron. Can we spare the time to have a good night's rest at the lodge?"
It is rather obvious what Myrd would prefer: a night on a real bed is to be preferred over a night in a swamp.
GM Aerondor

You rest up the night and the baron leads you off the next day into the mosquito invested swamp.
The air you thought was hot before becomes stifling, and the ground underfoot progressively wetter and boggier. Swarms of mosquitoes roam around, chowing down on any bits of exposed pathfinder skin they can get through.
baron, survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
The baron is an excellent guide, and by early afternoon the ruins of the old giant temple are clearly seen. The two nobles arranged for porters to set up a small shelter and start a smoky fire to try and keep the insects at bay as the pathfinder team makes their way forward.
