The meeting in Absalom with Drandle Dreng nearly a month ago was brief, as always. “I have a routine mission for you, though a dangerous routine mission,” the old man whispered in the great hall in the Grand Lodge.

Suffering from a cold and weak from lack of food and rest, the old venture-captain looked quite possibly the worst you’d ever seen him. Through wracking coughs he explained, “An ally of ours in the Land of the Linnorm Kings—Rognvald Skagni—is writing a lengthy report on the state of government in the northern countries of Avistan. I received a letter from him just yesterday requesting several key documents from the vaults here to help him finish the report.

Venture-Captain Dreng patted a large, heavy-looking chest next to him. “These are the documents, and I need you to board a ship north to deliver them to Skagni.

Dreng tried to stand at that point, but a fit of coughing sent him back into his seat. He gestured for a well-dressed, impeccably kept man standing in the shadows of the room to approach and whispered raspy orders to him. The man picked up a small pouch and a large key and handed them both to the party. “Venture-Captain Dreng is unwell, as you can see. He wished me to give you this key and this pouch
of gold. The key opens the chest, and the gold will buy you passage and get you from the Linnorm coast to Trollheim, where Skagni resides. Whatever you do, do not let the chest out of your sight and do not, under any circumstances, allow it to be searched. These documents are for Mr. Skagni’s eyes only. Are we understood?

Dreng’s nameless servant waited for a reply and then smiled. “Good. Now run along; Venture-Captain Dreng needs his rest.

Okay, it is a cold weather area, so if you want to have made any preparations you have had heaps of time to do so.

The chest is 2 feet wide, 4 feet long, and 3 feet deep. It’s made of heavy oak bound with iron, and locked with an enormous, finely crafted steel lock. The chest weighs 100 pounds

I'm keen to know how/who will be carrying the chest. Introductions would also be a good idea.

Riften looks like someone used to living outside. If you know what your doing, you can tell it is the sort of place where one must watch their footing. In his spare time, he is petting or playing with his familiar rabbit.

So, what sort of trouble should we expect?

"Keep your wits about you, the savages up there are as bad as the weather at times. Apart from the people and the weather, well.. I hear the food is not great if you are a vegitarian. The ale is even worse. As for the ladies of ahh, easy virtue. I'd pack a remove disease spell or two if you assoicate with them."

Just holding for a day in case our #7 turns up. Otherwise we will fast forward to the sages house. bwahahaha. Any last minute purchases (fur long johns?) get them made - once we are in the north you will have to find somewhere if you want to make any purchases.

The man who wears the colorful outfit and make-up only a jester would want to be seen in takes the key and gold out of Dreng's hands.
"I'll take these for safe keeping then. I'm sure my colleague Grigori can pick up the chest. He is used to bending over backwards for people anyway hi hi hi." Darius says with a smile and a giggle.

Zimti adds a wand of cure light wounds to his collection with 2pp. And a spring loaded wrist sheath. There may be other stuff. Will do a quick look through the equipment and update later today.

"Savages and weather, he says. Oh, what I wouldn't do for Fenrik and his brandy to be here. Come to think of it, there's probably a lot I wouldn't do. What a silly turn of a phrase, no?" Zimti mumbles and grumbles as he journeys with the group. Flashing a smile at the two remaining comrades, he offers a word of appreciation. "Glad you two are here, at least. Oh, and I suppose introductions may be in order."

"Name's Zimti. Sticks and bombs may break some bones, and that's why I pack them." The little Wayang smiles at the new allies for the journey as he introduces himself.

Perhaps a pack animal or a cart for the journey? Thoughts?

A darkly charming man in fine black and crimson clerical attire with gold trim now comes forward to introduce himself. An ornate silver spiral hangs over his chest from a silver necklace. A bejeweled saber and dagger are sheathed by his belt. In a thick Ustalavic accent, he greets you all with a regal, slight bow. "Grigori Yefimovich, at your service."

Before she can say "comrade," he suavely takes Jazmine's hand into his, putting it to his lips without breaking eye contact. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance, my dear."

Grigori frowns at Darius. "Ah. You again..." After shaking his head, "Just try to actually do something productive this time, eh comrade Darius? Vwhere vwe are going, you must keep mobile. Sitting around and flapping your mouth vwill only make you freeze ... eh, except your mouth perhaps, unfortunately."

To Zimti, Grigori smirks as he produces a bottle, "Perhaps some vodka will suffice, eh?"

I roleplay Grigori in real life with a Russian or "Ustalavic" accent.

"You need us to carry this crap to someone and we get paid for it? Seems easy!" A Dwarf says with a gruff laugh. "Well Azak i guess I'll carry that thing first." He adds looking at his companion. His companion,another Dwarf, rolls his eyes with a sigh.

He then moves up and tests the weight of the chest mumbling "Stupid chests." He carries it off to the side and adjusts his gear to be able to hold it better.

As his companion moves things around the other Dwarf steps forward. "You must excuse my brother there. He is rather...direct." Azak says, then adds with a small bow. "My name Azak and that barbarian is Ozak. Its a pleasure to meet you all." Azak watches Ozak shaking his head.

I apologize for my tardiness.. there was business that had to be wrapped up before I could attend I was out of town this weekend with the inlaws and couldn't really do more than just check the boards without being rude.. Having recently come in from the wilds, she is still not accustomed to being in close proximity with new people. Zimti flashes a smile at Ozak and Azak. "Perhaps we can get to know each other over Grigori's vodka." The wee man looked to the charming man. "A few drinks among new-found friends, no?"

"Perhaps we...Giggles! Hey! That's my lucky stick." Zimti races after the velociraptor as he offers another stick. "C'mon. How about this one? Giggles!"

With the dwarf willing and able to carry the chest, Zimti is good to go.

"An elf? You don't seem as snoody and high'n mighty as some of your kin I've met. And you have a interesting animal friend too. I think we will get along just fine!" He says with a chuckle to Jazmine.

Azak sighs and rests his head in a hand.

Jazmine looks critically at the forwardness of the cleric, and quickly withdraws her hand. "Yes, .... a pleasure.." She replies, not quite knowing what to do or say. Turning to Ozak, she looks the dwarf up and down before replying. "Friends are not common to me. I have been in town for a only a very little while, and have only recently met Zimti and Riften.They are not as bad as I first thought.. We were selected to do our confirmation together. I was raised in the deep forest, and have not had very much contact with people. Well, not conversational, anyways." She says as she strokes the hilt of her sword. "I left the forest to get a better understanding of the world around me. As the guardians of the forest, we must know those that may intrude on our homes, that we may better defend ourselves. As for Giggles, she and I have known each other for years. I found her egg rolled out of the nest, and all of her brothers and sisters had already hatched. She was left as a bad egg... and sometimes even I wonder about that!" As if she knew she was being discussed, Giggles yips at the room in general, and goes back to slobbering on Zimtis stick.

"Yes indeed," the Ustalavic priest replies to Zimti with a smile, and is happy to fill anyone's mug with vodka.

"Heh heh, Giggles is... very spirited." The priest's body language shows slight alarm at the velociraptor, never having seen such a dangerous animal domesticated (?) before.

But he remains undaunted in his attempt to woo the lovely elven lady, who receives the bulk of his attention. While charming and handsome, the priest appears to be quite the aggressive pursuer of affection. "Ah, but I have had the privilege of becoming acquainted with Absalom, my dear. It vwould be my pleasure to show you around town. Say, tonight, after dinner? I know this lovely restaurant..."

"Oh dear Grigori, all you did last time was woo every female in sight. That and swim at inappropriate times hi hi hi. Ah you made such a nice feminine scream as you fell into the water. How did it go again. IIIIEEEEEE!" Darius screams with his arms waving wildly and laughing afterwards.

After he composes himself he wags his finger at the man. "Seriously though do try and leave the ladies alone. I doubt our colleague is looking forward to carrying an old man around the town that keeps groping after her. We have to cooperate after all, not coerce." Darius says with quite a serious tone, but ruins it with a wink only Grigori can see.

He bows a jester bow to the others and introduces himself. "And all the greetings to my new friends here. My name is Darius. I am certain we will get along just fine. Well as long as a certain old man can keep his fingers to himself that is." Darius says with a generous smile towards the new faces and a knowing frown at Grigori.

Ozak looks over those gathered here, starts towards the door and smiles. "Well I guess we should be off. We need to get this thing to the place." He says pointing at the chest. Then pauses on his way to the door. "Who knows where we are going by the by?"

The group lands in Trollheim. The weather is cold. Bone numbingly cold. So cold, you find it hard to believe people actually live here. But they do.

In your status bars, can you include a cold save - with bonuses for things like warm clothing etc. That may be helpful to me later, and also remind you of the conditions you are in.

Where the directions indicate Skagni’s house should be
stands only the charred husk of a burnt-out building. Bits of
burnt timber and ruined furniture lie scattered about, but if
anything remained after the fire, it seems to have been picked
over and looted. Though most of the walls are blackened
with soot, a patch along the former front of the residence
still shows relatively clean, white walls. Smeared across those
white walls, written in reddish-brown letters four feet tall, are
the words, “Pathfinders go home.”

I hope it wasn't a mistake having seven of you, especially with a summoner. We'll see. This may be a very very quick scenario.

Feisty! I like this one... she vwill be a challenge. Grigori does not persist with the elven beauty, for now. He smiles in admiration of her, "Ah yes, business must come first. Of course. Perhaps another time, then."

The regal priest's smile then turns sour with Darius's jesting... as if he were listening to a screeching chalk board. Ozak receives a stern gaze for laughing. "Please, good sir. Do not encourage Tinkerbell here," motioning to the jester's tiny, jingling hat bells.

Turning back to Darius, "The only feminine screams you may have heard from my direction were those of the good Lady Darchana while in my, ahem, presence that night." He looks off in the distance, as if in genuine confusion, "Or perhaps it was Lady... Svetlana, was it? Or Miss Sehrli?" Shrugging off whomever it may have been (or if he got all their names right), "But despite all your mouth flapping on the subject, you vwouldn't really know about the screams of a lady, eh? Perhaps you vwould vwith a little less makeup. And... this silly attire! For the Lady's sake, boy..." Grigori scoffs at the poor fashion sense of the jester.

To Azak, the priest waves off any offense, appearing to be above pettiness. With a chuckle, "Ah, good sir, I am not offended in the least by banal commentary. And I am sure vwe shall get along splendidly."

...

Grigori approaches the sign in his posh black fur ushanka and matching cloak to kneel down and examine it. A grim expression comes over his face, "It is vwritten in blood."

He begins to then look around for burnt bodies, or signs of footprints.

Yeap, if you cast endure elements at the start of the day, no need for these fort saves. If you want I can assume you did that before getting off the ship.

Darius giggles at the comments of Grigori. "Now now Grigoti, we talked about this. No more imagining lady conquests. It only encourages bad behavior." Darius says with his finger waggling and a mock stern voice.

He turns towards the others and holds a hand against his mouth as if telling a secret. Though he whispers it loud enough for all to hear. "You will have to excuse my friend. I'm afraid old age has taken away some of his wits and memories. Senile I believe they call it." He "whispers" with a wink.

Turning back to Grigori he clasps his arm around the man as if aiding him walking. "There, there, everything is fine Grigori. You know perfectly well this outfit is especially for you so you don't try to come on to me like last time. I even cut my beautiful long blonde locks of hair for you. Let's get on with the mission shall we?" He finishes with a kind voice.

At the grizzly scene he takes a casual look and scoffs at the writing in blood. "Pffft just writing in blood to go away? We are dealing with individuals who lack any imagination."

Grigori politely pushes the jester's feigned aid away and shrugs, "I'm not old." Shaking his head, "I'm thirty winters. Why do you keep saying I am old? I suppose that would be old to a boy of... fifteen?" With a wink to Jazmine, "Do not let my mature manner fool you. I can assure you, I've still got it."

Returning to the business at hand, the priest raises a brow at Ozak's logic. Politely nodding, "Indeed..." he then continues, "Vwell, I do not see a body, so our contact must have been taken somewhere, making our mission... more interesting."

everyone can choose to gain +2 str and con but -1 ac. Same limitations as rage applies, but you can choose each round if you want the effects or not in case of spellcasting etc.

Drawing his shashka, he swings a mighty two-handed blow at the nearby northman, yelling angrily, "Vy budete platit' za eto!"

Darius starts yelling insults about the parentage of the axe wielding attackers. It really starts to get the blood up of the pathfinders. Those dirty barbarians, they deserve to die.

Zimti throws a bomb. Honestly, he could have done better, but at least this one lands at the foot of a barbarian and makes a satisfing BANG

Jazmine darts into the melee, risking life and limb, and manages to scratch the one that badly hurt Grigori. Giggles finds the barbarians armour too tough to chew on though.

The dwarven twins draw their weapons and look meanacing. Azak shivers in the cold

Riften steps back and brings down the weight of the mountain on a nearby barbarian.

But these men were born in the mountains, live in the mountains and know the weight of the mountains. He shrugs it off.

Hanud has more luck, stepping up to the dwarven twins and hacking away. The barbarian looks surprised at the damage the dwarf does to him.

Grigori's blow is good, but not good enough. It slides down the barbarian's parry, but at the last moment Jazmines attack distracts the man, and Grigori's blow goes home. Added +2 to flanking

The barbarians, slightly shaken by the group of southerners fighting back continue to press the advantage of surprise.

The lonesome barbarian throws another axe, this time at the irritating Darius.attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 However an especially bad insult puts him off his aim. He then closes on Jazmine, putting her between two fighters as well.

Another stalks Riften. "Meet my mountain axe, warlock."attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 The witch is too quick for him though.

The third turns on Jazmine, and tries to put her to rest. attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 She is too quick however.

The last attacks Hanud 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 but misses badly.

You are all up again.

The foppish priest lets out a playful "Ha ha!" as he slices upwards at the northman with two hands. With a maniacal grin, he finally responds to Hanud's query, "I am feeling quite vigorous, comrade Hanud! 'Tis but a flesh vwound. But this elegant cloak, it was brand new! Uy!"

Darius closes on one, but his insults are better than his swordplay, and he misses the barbarian. Zimti's aim returns to its normal attracious self. His lucky stick does knock a stone lose from the nearby wall though.

Jazmine scores another shallow wound on the man who attacked Grigori, but Giggles is still finding the armour tough to chew through.

Riften shows he has more than one trick, and sticks the barbarian facing him with his spear. The wound is light, but satisfing.

Grigori, distracted by the tear in his new cloak fails to repeat his heroics of moments before as the barbarian sidesteps his elegant but powerless attack.

The three dwarves combine attacks and bring down the first of the barbarians.
