Taerel Morgenfrei |
Taerel moves south, pulling out his bow and knocking an arrow. Me moves slowly and cautiously to avoid getting into the guard's line of sight.
GM Crucible |
I'm going to drop everyone into initiative now to keep the actions fairly allocated. Y'all get a surprise round (standard action only). Those who didn't get a chance to post a response can do a move as well.
Most of you also get a first round action, so go ahead and post both. Feel free to do a "If <this> then <this> otherwise <such-and-such>". Roll all readied attacks so we don't have to come back to you.
Evarice Bue: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Surprise Round: Evarice casts Sanctuary on herself, very loudly.
Round 1: Depends on what the guy S does.
Taerel Morgenfrei |
Taerel fires his bow.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Assuming he is still a target after surprise round, Taerel imbues his bow with a bit of his magic, and fires again.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
GM Crucible |
Just waiting on Renedar and Ledt before I resolve.
Ledt |
Seeing the attack of his comrades, Ledt shots his crossbow against the sentinel during the surprise assault.
Darkwood Light crossbow+PB: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 1 = 25
Piercing damage+PB: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Then, in the normal turn, he reloads the crossbow and casts daze on the sentinel so he cannot alert his companions.
Will DC 14 or dazed 1 turn (mind-affecting, only humanoids)
GM Crucible |
Everyone tries to move into position, as quietly as possible.
Reminder: the iced-over moat is difficult terrain.
Taerel fires his bow, but the arrow bounces harmlessly off of the corner of the stone wall. Would have hit, had it not been for cover.
His haste throws off the aim of his second arrow moments later, and the shot isn't even close.
The guard yelps in surprise, and looks up, just as Ledt's crossbow bolt enters his gut. Then, he screams. "Yaarrgh!"
Ledt casts daze to try and silence him. The spell seems to work, but you fear the alarm has already been raised.
Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
@Renedar, yes, the map isn't typically editable in a mobile browser. I've heard the apps work, though.

Doodle double moves toward the man (which should put her on the stairs, if she can make the check).
Acrobatics 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Ledt |
Ledt fires another bolt at the enemy trying not to wound Varian thanks to his great precision.
Darkwood Light crossbow+PB+IC+PS: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 1 + 1 = 18
Piercing damage+PB+IC: 1d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 = 8
Ledt has precise shot, thus, he has no penalty for attacking while Varian is on melee with the enemy
The halfling makes clear signs to his companions of where the sentinel is hiding still alive, then reloads the crossbow.
GM Crucible |
Doodle, I need a second Acrobatics check (DC 12), or you fall prone on the frozen ramp.
GM Crucible |
Doodle falls prone on the icy ramp.
She doesn't roll down to the bottom ... but I'll ask for another Acrobatics roll to stand, should she choose to do so.
Evarice Bue |
On her way down, Evarice loses her footing...
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
And falls face first into the ice.
Should I move Evarice back to the bottom of the stairs?
GM Crucible |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
With the ramp, one failed check is stopped movement. This triggers a second check to avoid falling prone.
Evarice 2nd acro check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Doodle slip on the icy ramp and fall prone. Evarice nearly loses her balance, but remains standing.
Renedar hustles toward the combat, taking care on the slippery ice.
I've added some grid coordinates so you can describe your move, if you're unable to drag.
Taerel delays, unsure what to do. If Taerel posts an action soon, we'll retcon it in.
Yâble begins to sing, inspiring those companions within the sound of his voice.
+1 morale bonus on saves against charm and fear, +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. In the future, please spell this out for your allies, and remind them of their bonus! It's easy to forget when posting.
Ledt's shot comes close, but clatters against the corner of the wall.
Would not have hit anyway, but he has cover still, which makes it harder.
Excellent example of a good dice roll, by the way: separating bonuses, reminding GM of precise shot. (I say this so others can follow your example.)
Varian swings his weapon at the guard, but is off balance and misses.
The guard drops his crossbow and draws his longsword. "Hildr, Drabbin, we're under attack!" he screams. He swings at Varian, striking a powerful blow. Varian is badly hurt. (-9 hp)
longsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Evarice manages to keep her balance and heads 30 feet South, her bow drawn with one hand free. She feels her goddesses's protection fail.

Varian takes a swing at the injured man in front of him...
Quarterstaff: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 = 22, for 1d6 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 1 = 12 damage.
...and then retreats back down the stairs.

Varian Jeggare |
Ummm... Your post is unclear, so I will answer all three possible questions that I can think of - 1)The Wizard is currently the only one in melee, which is slightly awkward. 2)Str 17 (bought) + 2 racial + 1 Transmuter = 20. 3) My retreat is based on the assumption that my 12 damage takes him down, but even if it doesn't, as an injured wizard, I don't especially want to be melee'ed by *three* opponents at once.
Renedar the Young |
Renedar Looks at Ledt. "Yes, I am!" the half-orc answers.
He will move up the ramp, no matter if he's big or not.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
If the guy Varian attacks falls, Renedar will move up to the woman (K-L 20-21). If not he will attack the guy in front of Varian.
Monk's unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
GM Crucible |
Evarice again tries to move down the ramp. She's barely able to keep her balance as she moves closer to the battle.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Renedar climbs the stairs (no acrobatics needed there), and tries to punch the guard, but misses.
Doodle manages to get to her feet, and make it a short distance further.
Yes, move to stand and another move to move. Where did you want to end up? I went ahead and moved you 30' worth of movement closer to the action.
Taerel moves further south. Around the south side of the temple he can see where the snow and ice has flowed over the walls. In the southwest corner is a small shrine to Ragdya facing toward the center of the temple. Here, the wind sounds more like the calls of a thousand shrieking monkeys. Seeing no immediate threats, he fires at the guard. (-5 hp, -1 more for inspire courage from Yâble.)
Between melee, cover, and range, that's a difficult shot. Nice '20'.
Yâble reminds his companions about the courage he's inspiring as he continues his song.
Ledt begins casting, moving his arms in arcane gestures and speaking in a language few understand.
Varian, protected only by his wits (and a few layers of invisible force) makes the most of his time at the front of combat. He brings his quarterstaff down on the man's head, dropping him to the ground, unconscious and bleeding. (-22 total damage) Varian then backs away, hoping others can absorb the next attack.
(And, yes, @Yâble, I took a look at Varian's character sheet, just as I've looked at—and will continue to check—everyone else's. Those bonuses are kosher. It took me a moment too.)
"Nooo, Skell!" the charging woman calls. Her eyes grow more fierce with anger and rage. "You murdering bastards killed my brother!" She charges forward, frothing at the mouth and bloodlust in her eyes. She has only one target now: Varian.
battleaxe: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 (-4 Varian's cover, +1 higher ground => 13)
Fortunately for the wizard, the same wall that protected the guard now protects him from a almost-certainly-fatal blow.
The tiefling moves forward and sees his fallen comrade. He casts darkness on a small stone he pulls from a pouch at his waist.
Unless you have low-light vision, all creatures gain concealment (20% miss chance) in dim light.

Ledt |
Ledt is scared when the darkness starts to surround him, but yet, he sees enough to finish his spell touching Renedar. The half-orc starts to grow in size, pushing the halfling out of place.
+2 Str, -2 Dex, -1 to hit, -1 AC, weapon damage increases (I believe your unarmed strike goes to 1d8)
The halfling points towards the barbarian woman standing in front of the door, his hair starts to sparkle, and then a bolt of electricity jumps from his hand hitting the woman.

Sorry for any delay, this weekend was unexpectedly rough. Others should be better.
Normally, I would have a missing person do a full defense or withdraw, but he's too integrally placed and that would unbalance the combat. Someone bot Renedar, please.
Ledt |
Ok, I hope this is ok with everybody
Ledt pushes Renedar from the back, forcing him to finally act, landing a flurry of blows over the barbarian.
Flurry of blows+IC: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 1 = 15

Bludgeoning damage (enlarged)+IC: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10
If for any reason the first blow makes the barbarian unconscious, he uses his reach to hit the tiefling behind with the second blow.
Also I forgot to count inspire courage on Ledt's attack, he should deal 7 damage instead of 6, sorry :P
GM Crucible |
Evarice fires lighting from her hands, singing the raging woman only slightly. (as mentioned, -3)
Ledt's spell fires, and Renedar gets bigger. Much bigger.
Renedar begins his flurry, missing with his fist, but connecting with a solid roundhouse kick. The woman staggers, then falls unconscious, bleeding.
Seeing the woman fall, Doodle attempts to daze the tiefling instead. Yâble attempts the same for good measure, but he is out of range, and the spell fizzles. 30' range at level one.
Will: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
With the wall blocking the view, Doodle's spell lacks full potency, and the tiefling is able to resist. Just flavor for the Will save.
Yâble, if you're moving, please either move your icon on the map, or describe your ending location so someone else can move you.
Varian withdraws, hurt.
The tiefling throws the rock in his hand. The area of darkness moves with it, and it explodes, deafeningly.
