"It doesn't have to be like this!" pleads the gnome cleric. "Why do we have to Fight?"
He casts longstrider on himself.

![]() |

Yue Xin's head ducks out from behind rocks, his arm outstretched. He calls out in a commanding but unfamiliar language:
A ball of energy arcs from his hand and explodes in the centre of the group, damaging Luwei, Ushi, Glastor, and the Princess.
DC 14 Reflex save for 1/2 damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 hp fire damage, or 2 hp fire damage
Princess Song Rui's Reflex save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Mongo and L'Mont, you may act.

![]() |

Nothing worse than a former friend.
L'Mont runs at Jianghong, hoping to take out a soft target quickly.
Sharpened cold iron dagger, bless, sneak attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 5 + 1 = 211d3 + 1 + 1 + 1d8 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 + (2) = 5
...muttered swearing at the damage rolls...

![]() |

L'Mont runs at the figure in the hat calling out in an odd tongue and slashes viciously at him, catching him in both forearms with a light graze.
Y: 3 dmg

Realizing that he can't reach the warrior before he has a chance to ready his polearm, Mongo moves closer and positions himself behind his shield, sword drawn.
20' move, total defense action. AC for this round is 24.

Initiative posted at the header
Glastor, Luwei, Ushi, and Mongo ready themselves for battle - some with more regrets than others.
L'Mont rushes forward and strikes a light hit on the caster.
Bolty moves for higher ground, seeking an opportunity to fire without obstruction.
The figure in the top knot draws a potion from the folds of their robes and says:
With that, they drink the potion.
The silent warrior advances on Mongo, unshouldering their pole arm and attacking from reach.
Attack on Mongo: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 202d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 = 7
The blow is turned aside by Mongo's shield.
The figure on the ridge by the boulders races for the edge of the ridge and swiftly descends...
Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
...and misjudges their footing, falling in an awkward heap.
Falling damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Ushi, Luwei, Glastor, and Bolty may act.

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Ushi ducks behind his shield in time to avoid the worse of the fire. Seeing his shadowy companion having difficulty, he moves to join him with heavy steps.
Double move.

![]() |

Seeing his prey take a tumble Bolty instead moves south to the hill's edge and fires down at the pole-arm wielding warrior while he's distracted by Mongo. Aiming for a weak spot in the warrior's rear.
spending a grit for sharp shoot to resolve against touch AC
Double Crossbow vs Touch: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 1 = 25

Ushi takes some scorching effect from the sorcerous fire (2 hp fire damage, Ushi) and moves up to aid his wayang companion.
I still need Reflex saves from Glastor and Luwei, please.
Bolty fires his double crossbow with satisfaction, the two bolts appearing in between the plates of overlapping armour worn by the polearm-wielding warrior. He doesn't slow, however, and Bolty infers that his solid shot missed vital organs by a fraction.
J: 2 dmg
Y: 3 dmg
Z: 10 dmg
Awaiting Luwei and Glastor.

GM, you are welcome to make saves when they happen. Usually a lot easier and faster
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Quid vis nocere nobis? Nos vere nocere sit tibi?"
Why do you want to hurt us? We truly mean you no harm!
Glastor, seeing that much of his team (including himself) is hurt, hurries to the center of the group, drawing a wand of curing. He then calls upon the blessing of Desna, channeling the healing power of his patron into his teammates. Butterflies fill the air momentarily, as each of the heroes are kissed by the ephemeral pretties, healing them. For the moment, he is not healing the attackers, excluding Zheng, and the princess spirit (just in case). Everyone but Bolty are in the area of effect.
Channel for heal!: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Sigh
"Please! Why can't we all just get along?!"

![]() |

Right, I'll make saves moving forward.
Both Glastor and Luwei take a full blast of the magical fire (5hp fire dmg). Luwei moves away from the caster and towards Mongo's opponent, attempting to snare the armoured one in her own sorcery.
Enemy Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
She seems to think it didn't take the desired effect.
Glastor continues preaching for peace, providing righteous healing to his allies.
The caster takes a step back and calls out again, his eyes locked on the wayang.
A cone of rainbow-coloured light flies from the caster's hands, ensnaring L'Mont but ending just at the tip of Ushi's nose.
L'Mont DC 13 Will save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 22d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 51d4 ⇒ 3
The wayang is felled.
Mongo, you may act.

Mongo steps forward and swings his sword as hard as he can at the armored figure in front of him.
attack, bless, power attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 - 1 = 13
longsword damage, power attack: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9

![]() |

Mongo's attack is likewise turned aside by the warrior's polearm.
The top-knotted and unarmed combatant rushes forward, scaling the side of the 3 foot ridge as part of a free running manoeuvre.
DC 12 Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
The figure propels forward, out of the range of the silent warrior's guisarme. His attention briefly drawn, the armoured warrior focuses again on Mongo, stepping back to allow for his guisarme to be fully used.
Attack on Mongo: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 7 - 4 = 82d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3) + 3 = 9
The figure that skidded down the embankment picks himself up from laying on his face and runs away.
Ushi, Luwei, Glastor, and Bolty may take actions.
J: 2 dmg
Y: 3 dmg
Z: 10 dmg

![]() |

Ah well. It was fun while it lasted. That's what happens when you misread the map!

![]() |

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Ushi blinks once as L'Mont collapses in front of him. Best not to test myself against that. Thankfull that his companion is the size of a child, Ushi hefts him up and pulls him away from the tongue-speaking mage.
Move action to pick up L'Mont, move action away. Ushi has about 60lbs of encumbrance free, so hopefully he won't be overburdened. If need be, he can just drag him.

![]() |

Seeing Ushi helping L'Mont, Glastor decides that speed is of the essence. He moves over to Mongo and taps him on the shoulder, "May luck be on your side, my friend!" (bit of luck!)
"Tu vere operta est culus, non es?"

![]() |

Thanks, Ushi! According to Hero Lab, L'Mont weighs 37 lbs. His total gear weight is 37.4 lbs., of which 16.4 is his backpack & its contents. Leave the backpack (for now!) and even with his armor and weapons he should be comfortably under 60 lbs.

![]() |

Ushi rushes in and pulls the limp form of L'Mont out of harm's way. Glastor races to Mongo, touching him with a bit of his god's favour. Luwei advances on the caster, attempting to use her dazing gaze to disable the foe.
Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
It is not Luwei's day.
We are awaiting Bolty.

![]() |

The caster moves forward at Luwei, his hand outstretched.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Critical Threat!
Critical Confirm Roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Critical Confirmed!
Luwei Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 13 hp dmg
His touch rips open the burn wounds Luwei already suffered, blood pouring out of the gaping holes. With a scream, she falls to the ground in a growing puddle.
Wow. Luwei is down and dying. Mongo, it is your turn.

![]() |

Mongo, remember you roll all d20s twice!

![]() |

Mongo once again steps forward and swings with all his might, feeling the gnome's luck course through him.
attack, bless, power attack (roll 1): 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 - 1 = 23
attack, bless, power attack (roll 2): 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 1 - 1 = 25
Roll(s?) to confirm, assuming a 25 hits. Not sure if the bit of luck applies. EDIT: doesn't matter, the first roll was higher
attack, bless, power attack (roll 1): 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 - 1 = 23
attack, bless, power attack (roll 2): 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 - 1 = 11
longsword damage, power attack: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12
longsword damage, power attack: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 = 13 crit damage if 23 confirms

![]() |

Bit of luck allows you to re-roll ALL d20 rolls in one round, including critical hit confirmations. That's back-to-back critical hit confirmations, BTW. I've never witnessed that.
With a massive swing, Mongo's blow arcs up and into what appears to be the armoured figure's upper chest, though Mongo doesn't feel the resistance of the breastplate as his blade sings clear of the figure. A heartbeat passes as if an hour long, and the warrior's head slumps forward as his body crashes backwards, the two completely separated.
The top-knotted warrior rushes forward, springing through the air with a strong side kick aimed at the enemy caster!
Ogre Stomps the Foe attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 151d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
The fleeing young figure exits the field as the caster sways and reels dangerously on his feet after taking a vicious body blow from the female martial artist.
J: 2 dmg
Y: 14 dmg
Z: 33 dmg(!)
Ushi, Glastor, and Bolty may go. Luwei, I need a stabilise check from you, please.

![]() |

Releasing L'Mont to the ground, the nagaji turns to see the sorceress fall. For an instant, the urge to retreat further with his prize battles with the creed of the society. "Meaningless yin and yang to this battle then." he grunts, wreathing his own hand in a warm glow before moving to reach out to Luwei.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

![]() |

We are awaiting Glastor.
Bolty levels his crossbow at the enemy assailants, while Ushi ducks in to Luwei's supine form and heals her, saving her life.

![]() |

Seeing his friends down, and others hurt, Glastor takes up a position where Desna's blessings can do the most good. He then presents his holy symbol, calling out, "Nobody dies when I am on the job! May The Starsong bless you with Her glorious melodies!"
channel to heal, excluding only Yue Xin, but not Zheng: 1d6 ⇒ 2
"Please surrender, Yue Xin. This violence should be over!"

![]() |

I'm sorry, Glastor. Zheng's head is off. Zheng dead.
Yue Xin, reeling, but with a wild look in his unfocused eyes, takes a step back from Jiang Fei and unleashes his fury along with a few choice words in a tongue only Glastor seems to make out.
A vibrant spray of colour, similar to what felled L'Mont, shoots from his hands, once again missing Ushi by inches, but washing over Jiang Fei and the unconscious form of Luwei.
Jiang Fei Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 112d4 ⇒ (1, 3) = 41d4 ⇒ 3
The martial artist goes down in a heap as Yue Xin's eyes roll into the back of his head and he collapses.
Out of combat!

![]() |

Princess Song Rui rushes to your sides as Glastor makes certain that Yue Xin is stable (a likely assumption).
"I had no idea that there was such a desire for knowledge of my home, my people. I thought that I had been forgotten." She regards the fallen. "If they are not within death's arms, I would advise that we collect our own and leave now; let us make for Mai Chun and her open-minded land. As the last remaining representative of Imperial Lung Wa, I declare that I would have the aims and goals of Shokuro as the logical evolution of our rule - not this!" The Princess appears appalled at the violence, but sounds regal in her proclamation.
Taking her advice, the group gathers up their fallen comrades. Some come to as they descend the Gossamer foothills (L'Mont). Some require ongoing tending and return to consciousness much later in the journey (Luwei). The trip back is without incident.
---- FAST FORWARD ----
Once you return to Ashima with the bejeweled scroll case, Mai Chun is ecstatic. The entire town celebrates your triumph in the temple square. Mai Chun and the old princess get on famously, and the phantom flits awkwardly about the riotous village party to celebrate your success. Mai Chun pledges to publish an entire book of interviews based on their conversations, and she delights in trading poetic couplets with the well-educated phantom. A local representative of the Sun Shogun provides a reward of 3,000 gp and access to a store of magical talismans in gratitude for your heroism.
Cue "Jub-Jub" song from the end of Return of the Jedi.
END OF ADVENTURE!
