Familiar with Absalom as Pathfinders, finding the most prestigious arcane academy in the Inner Sea region is a trivial task: simply head to the Wise Quarter. Unfortunately, the complex and winding streets of the expansive Arcanamirium prove to be more difficult.

In an incredible show of teamwork, the group handedly manages to canvas the swarm of students, faculty, and laborers flowing all around them, extracting the location of the journeyman mage. Without losing much time, you manage to weave through the throngs of people and dizzying twists and turns, arriving at a modestly sized arcane laboratory.

From the doorway, you can see that the, the facility is well equipped with a variety of equipment from mundane beakers, flasks, and measuring devices, to obscure arcane instruments whose purpose you can only guess at. Unlike the other laboratories you have passed, this one is dense with student activity and a palpable level of tension.

Seated in the center of the room on a slightly raised platform is a middle-aged human male. He casually smokes a long pipe and reads a heavy tome, while lounging in what appears to be an impossibly cushioned chair.

Occasionally he pokes his head over the cover and the source of the tension becomes obvious. "YOU THERE! WILFRED! IF YOU SO MUCH AS STUMBLE WITH THAT AETHERMOMETER AGAIN, I WILL REVOKE YOUR WAIVER!" he shouts, while pointing to a nearby student who clearly fell while cradling the fragile device in his arms. "FLUFFING!" he screams a couple of moments later. A trio of students who have been frantically working away at transcribing complex arcane formulas rush to their master, systematically raising each leg and head individually while the cushions are fluffed.

"Journeyman" refers to a level of competence in a profession fyi. As far as I understand it, this puts Maren Fulhn below a Master, but above a novice.

Arrius puts his fingers on his temples as he intently takes in the scene. Without looking at the others, he whispers to them. "Indisputably, he whom we seek rests upon the divan of imprisoned wind. Aye, 'prickly' one of you foretold, as prickly as the stingers of the venomous Irukandji towards that which causes it irritation. A careful approach we must take, yet forthright, forceful, and with the promise of immediate mutual benefit. This, I surmise." Arrius then gently places his fingers on the temples of the party's spokesperson.

Arrius casts telempathic projection, giving the spokesperson a +5 insight bonus on their next Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate, Perform, or Sense Motive check against Maren.

Callah raises an eyebrow as they consider Maren Fuln and turns to whisper to her companions, "Ah...is this normal among your academics and scholars?"

She considers possible approaches for a moment and then, clearing her throat, raises her hand and knocks against the open door frame.

"Excuse me, Master Fuln?" she begins, deliberately choosing to address him as above his actual rank - hoping that the flattery wouldn't be missed by someone literally sitting upon fluffed cushions. "Apologies for interrupting your work - I can see that you're a very busy man. However, I do believe that perhaps we can make the interruption worth your while. Maren's chest visibly swells as he practically purrs in response to the duo's words. "Astute observation, I am quite busy. My research is of utmost importance, however I have chosen to be gracious enough to lend an ear. Just for a moment, mind, there is much to do," he responds, chin held high and looking at you both down his nose. "Fret not, your conundrum may be debilitatingly complex for your minds, yet mine is sharp as a tack, quick as a hare. It shall be nothing for me to solve. Tell me now, what is it you want?"

Etienne:

Maren seems to be researching conjuration magic, specifically with regards to teleportation and extraplanar travel. While that is the bulk of the research, another significant portion appears to be concerned with divination and it's relationship to the timestream. Perhaps as a way to look accurately into the past?

Worried about causing an upset right in the middle of the Arcanimarium, Atronia tries to find a way to phrase it so that it will not raise alarm, but still make it seem interesting and worthwhile for Maren Fuln. "We were doing some research into the history of Absalom, and have reason to think the influences of Ralzeros the Overwatched is still... present, in a way. Yet it had been so long. Tell me, Master Fuln, how would one of his caliber manage to old sway over the city for so long? And if he did, why? What was most valuable to him?" Imperious as ever, Maren pauses for what feels like a practiced amount of time before responding. "It is no surprise that his influence still holds sway in our realm. Absalom legend tells that Ralzeros the Overwatched was an astrologer who used the Blakros Museum as a mighty stronghold. He watched the stars with his weird machines, and some say he was able to communicate with the otherworldly beings of the Dark Tapestry, the black spaces between the stars. A significant, if unorthodox, source of power and likely the home to his most valuable possessions," he explains, pausing again while looking at you. Sighing a little at your lack of awe, he shoots a glare with the force of a Bulette at a nearby apprentice. The poor lout recoils, immediately drops what he is doing and applauds briefly, "Master Fulhn, you are so knowledgeable bravo! Bravo!" He quickly scoops up his belongings and resumes working.

Pleased with himself again, he continues. “However any wizard of great talent and success will have opponents. Ralzeros’s rival was a prominent mage named Beldrin. After a significant feud between the two, Ralzeros disappeared. It is thought that this feud arose when Ralzeros accused Beldrin of stealing a key to one of Ralzeros’s many chambers, which contained the wondrous magical tools he used to watch and be watched by the stars. If Beldrin did steal a key to Ralzeros’s magical chamber, he most likely hid it in one of his three towers, which once stood on a promontory near what is now the Precipice Quarter. Only one tower remains standing—the Tower of the Broken Shield, commonly called Beldrin’s Tower. The Tower of the Candelabra has sunk deep beneath the water. The Tower of the Horn fell to the base of the bluff; it remains half-flooded at all times and is only accessible during an extremely low tide. He most likely hid it in the Tower of the Horn, which is said to have held the keys to many of the chambers in his other spires. If I had the time to learn more on the subject, that is where I would head. Finding the key to unlocking the secrets of Ralzeros' very own tower and possibly the source of his power would be a marvelous find, indeed!” he concludes, looking expectantly at you gauging your reaction and clearly expecting to have impressed. He is perched precariously on the edge of his seat, clutching a cushion in anticipation.

Making your way to the Precipice Quarter, the sun has only just begun its descent towards the horizon. Passing through Eastgate with the sun at your backs, you easily find the cliff that gives this Absalomian district its name.

Churning waves break against jagged rocks where the Precipice Quarter meets the sea, a chaotic maze of stone and coral with neither level ground nor shelter from the ocean’s destructive power. In the midst of this chaos lies the fallen Tower of the Horn jutting out of the shallow surf, its smooth, ivory surface now adorned with seaweed, coral, and barnacles.

Fortunately, the tide has begun receding and a jagged breach in the wall can be seen near the intersection of worked stone, sand, and ocean water.
________
Climbing down the cliff is DC 15, it is 20ft down in this area. Thanks to the tide, you'll be standing on sand when you get down, but moving towards the towers quickly turns this into deeper water (3-4ft at most). Obviously if you are moving past the tower, this will rapidly escalate.

Half of this chamber’s floor is covered in seawater, and the tower reeks of brine and the lingering smell of death. Three doorways lead to other chambers in the tower, the wooden doors having long rotted off their hinges. The southernmost portal is almost half-submerged beneath the cold water. A large, circular hole gapes from the ceiling to the north, with a long rope dangling down from the dark chamber above, and another hole opens in the floor directly below it.

You have deduced that the rubble is composed of the remains of a stone spiral staircase that would have gone up and down from here.

The ravages of time having already opened the door for Erhun, he steps forward into the murky water. Despite his towering frame, the water manages to come up quite high here, cresting near his chest. It manages to keep a hold of him and a cruel smile crosses its lips, the slotted gills on the side of its neck flaring in triumph. You're in luck Erhun, not a single door to be found on this level! The water squares for this part of the tower are MUCH deeper and function as a DEEP BOG. I will put the highlights in the discussion tab. The water in the other area of the tower (where the rest of the party is) is still just difficult terrain. Erhun, would you add your CMD to your tagline please? Also, you have it listed as 13 but I believe it should be 16.

Furthermore, I looked at the statblocks again and I think I agree. The tier 1-2 and 4-5 creature for this fight are both called "Animated Statues" but the 1-2 is explicitly an Animated Object where as the 4-5 is a Graven Guardian (which I don't think would radiate magic. Could be wrong there too though!). I will remember this for the future.

Thanks :D I believe that there are 2 conventions every year and they are heavily advertised in the Flaxseed Lodge. When there aren't any conventions going, there is almost one game per day starting up! Right now though, almost all the typical GM's are running OutPost games, but more will be posted as those games finish up!

On the topic of the Flaxseed, have you all dotted into that thread? It is much easier to keep up with it and find games when you have.

Flaxseed Gameplay Thread where you should post to put the Lodge into your campaign tab.

Flaxseed Recruitment Thread where you should post to say you are new to PbP (if you are) and looking for a game. I've seen several GM's specifically look for those new to PbP or PFS into their games to spread the love.

A couple of questions before resolving turns:

Erhun/Etienne - I've reviewed as much information as I can on lending rerolls and there isn't an official stance on it, so I am allowing it. What is clear, however, is that each PC gets a single reroll, so if Erhun has their own reroll, they might as well use it themselves.

I've consulted a couple of GM's and we came to the conclusion that there is no reason for players/PC's to not know what they are saving against. Erhun, the first save is vs the Disease, the second is vs Paralysis. If you do decide to take Etienne up on his offer, make sure you are clear which one you are rerolling.

EDIT: Not making the disease is a long term problem that could be fixed by spending PP. Not making the paralysis could straight kill you. It is your choice whether you take that reroll or not, but I would recommend taking it. Etienne still has the option to run away.

Erhun, you may or may not need that acrobatics roll, but it depends on where you'd like to move your character! Would you move your token on the slideshow please? For your readied action, your current wording doesn't seem to consider if the ghoul doesn't have to move. Depending on where you end up moving your token, you may not even need to ready!

Also, the damage total for the ghoul is 26. That got dropped off part way through editing somehow, sorry about that!

sorry, I started to post yesterday, got caught up in work, and didn't remember to move.

Erhun will shield the others with his own body, disregarding his safety (moved on the map)

If the ghoul doesnt attack.. Erhun will have to wait next round

Since you've slain that ghoul, I can talk about it with y'all! :D

That was a ghoul who had three levels in sorcerer. The DC for the disease/paralysis was 15 (higher than a normal ghoul) and it had 42 HP. Because of CR math, that was only a CR 3 encounter.

Yes, within a matter of seconds her paralysis would have dropped.

Hopefully this isn't a surprise to anyone, but Erhun is suffering from ghoul fever. Here is the standard text for it:

Ghoul Fever: Bite—injury; save Fort DC 13; onset 1 day; frequency 1/day; effect 1d3 Con and 1d3 Dex damage; cure 2 consecutive saves. The save DC is Charisma-based.

I have bolded some important parts.

Because the ghoul you fought had an increased charisma, the DC is 15. Erhun has some options, all of which have varying chances for failure.

  • Spend PP on an NPC to cast Remove Disease. This would result in a caster level check vs the DC of the disease. Since PFS mandates the minimum caster level of NPC castings, that would be 1d20+5. If successful, you would be immediately cured.

  • Acquire a potion or scroll of Remove Disease (either PP or gold). This would result in the same 1d20+5 roll. If successful, you would be immediately cured.

  • Grit your teeth and let time pass. While only one success counts, the party could all roll DC 15 Heal checks to grant Erhun a +4 bonus on his daily save vs the disease. With your fort save, you would be rolling 1d20+10. You would have to have two consecutive successes (so over two days) for this to work and would begin incurring the con/dex damage (which you could just sleep off).

I am not aware of any other methods of fixing this (please let me know if you do). Erhun, please let me know which method you wish to pursue!

I’d suggest taking the save route, as that’s (statistically) likely to work. If ability scores get perilously low, than spending resources for curing makes sense.

    I have reported the game!

I do not currently have any games planned right now. I try to always be running a game on PbP, but I'll be starting my master's program in a month and have no idea what sort of time I'll have available. Once I know, I'll definitely be starting up another game though!
