I'll shoot Lady Ladile a PM and invite her to game with us!
If she declines, I will put a post up.

GM Bearington |

Etinne: Yes, through observation of Atronia's movements, you all would know that the place within the orange rectangle is dangerous.

Lady Ladile |

You rang? Hi guys! Sorry it took me so long to pop in; work was a bear yesterday so I didn't have much time to hop on the forums. Technically, tomorrow/today (Wednesday) will likely be more of the same but with a bit of input from you guys I can hopefully figure out which PC to bring by tomorrow evening so we can get going again :)
I've got a variety of 1st and 2nd level characters that I could bring.
*edit w/choices*
1st Fighter (Dawnflower Dervish)
1st Bard (Arrowsong Minstrel)
1st Alchemist (Homuncultist)
1st Brawler (Wild Child)
1st Ranger (Freebooter)
2nd Druid (Sky Druid)
1st Sorcerer
1st Spiritualist
1st Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade)
1st U. Summoner
2nd Shaman (Speaker for the Past)
1st Oracle (Community Guardian)
Any preferences from anyone?

GM Bearington |

Welcome! :D Looking objectively at the party composition, they have 2 arcane, a dedicated frontliner, and a frontline/support. There is no divine representation (hopefully there is a wand or two between you all though), roguish skill set character (face skills do appear to be covered), or ranged combatant.
I'm not saying the party needs any of those roles to succeed, just pointing out what I'm seeing from a scenario neutral perspective.

![]() |

Welcome, Lady Ladile! Thanks for joining in on the fun. With the caveat that of course play what you are excited to play, I'd love to see the shaman (speaker for the past is one of my favorite archetypes), spiritualist or druid.

![]() |

I don't want to force you to play anything specific, but I'll admit I'd love to see a divine caster of any kind right about now.
Also I just realized I forgot to buy a wand of cure light wounds at the beginning of the adventure. I can't believe I did that...

![]() |

I edited my last post because a typo was preventing the Knowledge dice from working. It changed the result of the Spellcraft dice and made it lower (still quite good, but it was a 20), I'm fine with keeping the results we see now, of course. I just wanted to be clear about what happened there and let you know it wasn't just me wanting to change the results or something (I didn't even know it could do that). Sorry about any possible confusion!

GM Bearington |

No worries Atronia, I appreciate your honesty :)

![]() |

Okay, shaman it is since it seems like a divine caster would be most appreciated! I'm at work for some hours yet but I'll go ahead and dot in properly to get the game on my Campaigns page and I'll try and get my info and stuff posted later tonight.

GM Bearington |

Etienne's Take Ten result for Religion is a 15 btw, so fire up that spoiler!

![]() |

GM, does my character need some sort of introduction or are we doing the whole 'she was there the whole time' method?

GM Bearington |

Either you can make your introduction or I can! Frankly, it is all the same to me. [sarcasm]A latecomer from the highly organized Society?! NEVER! [/sarcasm]
Edit: To more directly answer your question, I would prefer an introduction. Easy opportunity for some RP and to set the tone for your character :D

![]() |

Okay, I'll whip something up - just need to catch up on Gameplay and all! Got a few other games to hit first but I'll try and have something written soon :)

GM Bearington |

My computer decided that the instant I sat down to use it was the best time to update for about an hour so I am going to have to post after work. Sorry all!

![]() |

Apologies for not posting my take 10 score - I meant to do that, but lost the thread in my mind.

GM Bearington |

No problem! I figured posting what it was would be faster than me pointing it out and then waiting for you to post it.

I fully support such "moving it along" strategies.

GM Bearington |

Arrius, you are doing a great job at being super wordy, but not losing your meaning. Nice work! It really adds to the "I'm not from here" angle of your character :)

![]() |

Thanks guys, it's a fun challenge to "speak" like that. I thought a PbP game would be the best place to try it out, since I don't think I could think on my feet fast enough to have that sort of style in a traditional sit-down game.

![]() |

I know exactly what you mean, Arrius. I enjoy face-to-face gaming but I can express myself much better through PbP.

GM Bearington |

Preach! I have developed a "policy," if you will, that all my new characters have to go through at least two PbP games before I play them FtF. I am not very good at roleplaying in person unless I've done it before, leaving me with a nonstarter. After a set of PbP games, I find that I am MUCH better at being the character in a FtF game. PbP is still my RP medium of choice though, being able to sit and think as well as add in character thoughts makes a significant difference for me.
EDIT: I know topics in this thread moved quickly away from character sheet formatting, but, as a friendly reminder, be sure to update those character sheets to include all of your information if you haven't already!

![]() |

Oh yes, sorry about the delay. I've added my character sheet to the profile now.

![]() |

Ah, that roll. It really feels like I get these kind of results only when I'm using aid another. XD
Anyways, I just wanted to say I agree with the others, Arrius. Yours posts are really fun to read. I like everyone's idea of using PbP to get to know your characters better, it's interesting. I'd never thought about it, perhaps in part because I don't use the same language here as I do in face to face games. (By the way, if I use some weird vocabulary, it might not be on purpose, so please do tell me if I say something that doesn't seem right.)

![]() |

Sorry Atronia, if I'd realized you could use Perform: Oratory in place of Diplomacy I'd have let you make the initial roll and Aided you instead! This is what happens when you're dealing with classes (such as Skald) that you're not as familiar with, sadly.
But between the two of us we've gotten a decent score so hopefully it'll all work out fine :)

![]() |

No worries, Callah. It is in a weird place at the bottom of my character sheet, so it's entirely understandable, and shouldn't cause trouble. :)

![]() |

I’ll be going on vacation with my family starting tomorrow; I don’t know how often I will have a chance to post, so I’ll add some botting instructions at the top of my character sheet. I apologize for the added burden for GM Bearington.

![]() |

Have fun on vacation! :)

![]() |

Thanks, looking forward to ditching this foot of snow for some Florida sun!

GM Bearington |

For this next part we will effectively be in a dungeon (surprise!). Please make it clear in your posts if you are attempting to move somewhere and move your tokens accordingly. I can easily move tokens if something would have happened, but I am not comfortable deciding your path through a dungeon. This is especially important if you are done with a room, I can move us along if you express where you want to go, but otherwise I assume that you aren't finished interacting with a room.
Etienne, for Mage Armor, please include your new ac in your tag line. You can do this however you wish, I typically put it in brackets next to my normal AC.
Like this:
AC 15 [19] T 12 FF 13 [17]

Cool soundtrack, by the way. It's a nice touch to add. :)

GM Bearington |

Glad you liked it! Darkest Dungeon is a fun game (if you are into that style of play) and I highly recommend it to all of you!
Arrius, I'm going to make the call that detect thoughts will work on the walls within the building, but not through the outer walls or the ceiling/floor. Looking at the map, the outer walls appear to be ~3ft thick and the inner walls ~1ft thick. I have no idea how thick the floors are, but ~1ft seems reasonable. 1 ft of stone blocks detect thoughts, but I'll say that the inner walls are just under a foot and the floor/ceiling just over a foot. Sound fair?
Anyone have any fact based opinion on this? I'll give it a couple of hours before making a gameplay post with results.
I've also added all of the remaining character tokens onto the current map. Shuffle yourselves around as you see fit.

Deep Bog Highlights:
I recommend reading the full info, but this is what I believe will be relevant for the party.
ALSO! I can't believe that I did not mention this up front (and for that you have my deepest apologizes) I will be out of the country from this saturday to the following saturday. I should have internet access, but even if I do not, I foresee us still completing on time.

GM Bearington |

Let's keep the ball rolling folks! Everyone except for Etienne and Callah are up, show that Merrow what for!

GM Bearington |

Etienne, as a GM, I prefer a single die roll if you don't know which knowledge you need. However, I have bene including the DC to identify next to each monster in the initiative order until it is achieved. In the case of these creatures, it is a DC 10 Dungeoneering check.

![]() |

Hey folks, work stuff has kept me busy the last day or so and more looms on the horizon tonight. If it's quiet I'll hopefully be able to sneak in a post but otherwise please bot me and I'll catch up tomorrow :)

![]() |

*sigh* Apologies for the lack of updates yesterday; had some RL garbage crop up. Hopefully today will be a little better.

GM Bearington |

I've arranged you all on the next slide! Feel free to adjust it as needed and remember to move yourselves around as you choose to explore the area.
Thanks for bearing (ha!) with me as I continue my international travels! I'll be back home Saturday and our regularly scheduled programing shall commence this Monday :)

![]() |

Sounds good GM! Safe travels and see you soon :)

GM Bearington |

Does anyone know how detect magic works on an animated object? I don't think it would have mattered in this case (both parties knew the other was coming and there is only one way into this room), but in another situation this could have mattered a great deal.

![]() |

It's an interesting question. I think an animated object would detect as magical (transmutation aura) because the spell normally used has a non-instantaneous duration (one round per level or cemented through permanency).

![]() |

Arrius' interpretation makes sense; the item is being animated by spellwork so it should, in theory, radiate some sort of aura.
