Tupp continues to run as fast as he can towards the archer on the southern wall, Blaarg running close to his heels. "You have... One... Chance to... Surrender!" He calls out between gasping breathes, "Or you'll... Have to... Answer... To my Sword." He rounds the stairs and starts bounding up them two at a time, all the while wondering why he ever thought his heavy old armour was a good idea.

Blarg is puzzled why he is not staying with his Koani, but he obediently follows and is prepared to protect his Koani's friend.

I will leave it up to GM judgement if Blarg's instructions to defend cause him to attack anyone. I'm rolling a spoilered set of attacks, for whenever they first get triggered.

Blarg attack, if triggered:

bite attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
talon attack 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
talon 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
If Blarg cannot full attack, he would use one talon attack.

Season of Ghosts

Hmm...yes, I'll rule that if someone attacks Tupp that Blarg will do his best to defend him - which probably means attacking the attacker. But at the rate you guys are going it might not come up this battle haha!
________

While Tupp and Blarg continue to beat feet towards and up the stone stairs, Bartimaeus hustles along the wall towards the southern end of the complex - knowing that there's one other archer lurking somewhere up on the walls.

Yellow Archer, now hearing the cries of alarm and sounds of battle from behind him, whips around and spots Tupp and Blarg making their way up the stairs only feet away. He raises his shortbow and takes aim at the halfling...

Yellow vs. Tupp (Comp. Shortbow): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Tupp continues running as fast as he can, arrows flying over his head, and loving every second. "Left or right?" He asks Sori as he approaches the top step. "Right! The archers have the other one covered." She replies, holding on tight to his Tupp's hair, bobbing up and down, surveying the battlefield to give. The eager young paladin immediately turns right and charges toward the archer, lifting his sword, ready to bat away incoming arrows as he approaches.

He's just out of reach, so I'll use a standard action for total defence (AC 21.) Sori will also cast guidance again.

Season of Ghosts

Styrian steps around the corner and attempts to slash at Red Archer, whose eyes grow wide at the sight of the giant man! With a shriek, he ducks under the glaive strike and the blade misses his head by mere inches!

Meanwhile, Bartimaeus does a spectacular dive to the ground as he fires off another charge from his magic missile wand - the dart strikes Yellow in the shoulder and spins him around but doesn't drop him!

I'm picturing one of those epic slow-mo shots you see in cop shows and movies, haha!

Tupp continues to race up the stairs and barrels towards Red, but isn't quite able to reach him and attack so he skids to a stop just a few feet away and adopts a defensive stance. Sori, ever helpful, flutters up and bestows a bit of Guidance on her master.

Blarg, blessed with a greater speed than the halfling, races ahead and swipes at Red with one sharp talon!

Tupp makes quite the exaggerated show of things as he steps forward and attempts to bring his sword down on Red but the archer pulls back slightly at the last second and the blade simply passes inches in front of his face. Blarg simply looks up at the little person he'd been set to guard with a puzzled expression...did all the screaming do something? Blarg can't tell.

"What sort of a-"*gkk!* Red begins to taunt, only to suddenly find himself neatly lopped into upper and lower halves by Styrian's glaive. He collapses in a pool of blood, very much dead.

With Red dead, Bon Jon sprints forward past Tupp and Blarg, cutting off Yellow's escape route atop the wall while Styrian moves to intercept him should he try to make for the stairs.

"D-Diomazul, spare me!" Yellow babbles, having witnessed Red's brutal demise. He throws up his hands and drops to the ground, cowering. "I give up, I give up! Sp-spare me and I'll talk!" he begs.

As the din of combat settles, Bartimaeus stands back up, dusting himself off. Wand still in hand, he hustles over to the halfling. "My boy, did any of those scum get a good strike in?" In the heat of the moment we split up, but it seems to have developed in our favor. Now to pry lose any relevant information from this groveling fool...

"You there, you cower before the law. As we can personally attest, you have committed banditry and if not murder, were accessory to it. Speak of the inner chamber of this fortress truthfully and a portion of the stain you have smeared on this land shall be removed," he commands, holding an edge of his coat in either hand while glowering at the man. If we weren't so far from a constabulary, landing him in prison would be best, once a man turns to banditry they will never truly turn away. Perhaps Phalgun and his men are vigilante and positioned to catch him when he flees.

"I, uh...uh..." Yellow stammers, almost too frightened now to speak...but then he swallows hard, trying not to look at the enormous Styrian or at the scary little dinosaur looming close by.

"Not many! Two more like me, down the stairs...some of those Tiger's Eye freaks, three total I think, some of them like to meditate inside the courtyard," Yellow details, counting each person off on his fingers. "Some sort of magic statue downstairs too, one of the monks told me his order used to use it for training! And Zamir himself and his pet tiger, Jumra. That's all, I swear! And...and the monks, they don't even like Zamir that much! Maybe you can t-talk them into letting you pass?? Or you could maybe even sneak by them!"

________

Yellow stands perfectly still as Blarg comes and sniffs at him, beads of sweat dripping down his face. The dinosaur gets a whiff of something foul from the man, a scent that he instinctively understands to be that of people droppings and sweat...but otherwise, he smells like any other people that Blarg's encountered and the dinosaur placidly returns to Koani's side.

"Good thing I wore my brown pants today..." Yellow mumbles to himself, shifting uncomfortably from foot to foot as Blarg wanders back to his mistress.

"And Zamir, a weretiger?" For the first time, Yellow actually laughs - it's a mocking, disdainful laugh. "He's a man like you and me, nothing more and nothing less. But oh, he does so love to style himself as the tiger, a great, ferocious beast that stalks the jungles and then melts away after each strike! By your question, seems like it's working - he'd be pleased to know it."

Yellow then shrugs. "As for the monks, I think Zamir promised them he'd use his influence with the Aspis to restore their order to power here. They could probably tell you more, if any of you can understand Vudrani. Reshed, Zoozas, and Kabrar are their names, if I remember right." He scowls. He says cheerfully with a little wave, "Sorry to bother you, but are you Tiger's Eye monks?" He walks into the courtyard with his hands up, his weapon safely sheathed in its scabbard on his back. "Just thought you might like to know, we sort of removed the guards around the walls. Yeah, they're all gone now, but between you and me, they weren't really very good at their jobs anyway. I mean, we were already inside the walls by the time they noticed us..." He shrugs. "Anyway, before the last one ran away, he said that you're not all that impressed with this Zamir guy. If that's the case, well, you're in luck! We want to arrest the man and take him off your hands, what do you say? Will you let us in and bring him to justice? Season of Ghosts

As Tupp strides into the inner courtyard, two figures along the northernmost wall shift slightly. The halfling can see what Sori had meant; if one stumbled across them without making any noise the two men would be easy to mistake for simple statues what with their gray masks and gray robes. Both men slowly open their eyes and regard Tupp with narrowed eyes throughout his speech and then glance at each other.

"आप क्या सोचते हैं, Reshed? एक योग्य अभ्यास डमी, शायद?" one of them asks of the other.

"उन बेकार गार्ड की तुलना में संभवतः अधिक योग्य क्या उन्होंने उन्हें मठ में सीधे चलने दिया?" replies the second, giving Tupp another look, more appraising.

"क्या यह भी बात करता है? स्पष्ट रूप से वे इन लोगों के लिए कोई मेल नहीं थे लेकिन ऐसा लगता है कि छोटा व्यक्ति चैट करना चाहता है, उसका मुस्कुराहट चेहरा और हथियार की कमी है? क्या हमें उसे निगलाना चाहिए?" the first monk says with a bemused shake of his head.

"हम्म...शायद हमें चाहिए, Zoozas. वे स्पष्ट रूप से Zamir के लिए आते हैं और मुझे सुनने के लिए उत्सुक हैं कि उनके कहने के लिए क्या...अगर वे इसे संवाद कर सकते हैं।," remarks the second, presumably named Reshed. Both monks then turn to the group with guarded but curious, expectant expressions...

Vudrani:

"What do you think, Reshed? A worthy practice dummy, perhaps?"

"Likely more worthy than those worthless guards. Did they just let them walk right into the monastery?"

"Does it even matter? Clearly they were no match for these people. But it seems the little one wants very much to chat, see his smiling face and lack of a weapon? Should we indulge him?"

"Hmm...perhaps we should, Zoozas. They have clearly come for Zamir and I am curious to hear what they have to say...if they can communicate it."

Remind me, I don't think anyone in the group speaks Vudrani or has anything like a Comprehend Languages spell handy do they?

Hmm Stryran does actually have a scroll. It only lets the caster understand, but not speak. But when a GM hints....

Hearing the discussion inside and based on the yellow bandit's description, Styrian decides to help out inside if he can. He takes out a scroll of comprehend languages and starts to enact its magic.

Use Magic Device DC 21: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

After casting he dismisses his probably-threatening enlarge person and slips in to the other room. He missed what they have already said but addresses them now.

In common, "Greetings, none of us can speak Vudrani, but I can magically understand it. Can you understand my common?" If appropriate he'll repeat in Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, and Skald.

If nothing comes through he will try some nonverbal gestures. He holds his weapon aside and points at the two monks shrugging to try and show he's not interested in fighting them. Then he points around at his party and then to the stairs, and strikes the ground with his weapon to show they want to deal with Zammir below.

Tupp stares at the two monks for a second after they finish their conversation, relieved that they didn't decide to attack on sight. That's the first step, at least. He looks up at his comrades, his eyes glazing over as they start speaking in a multitude of languages he has never heard before, suddenly feeling very guilty for never even trying to learn another language himself.

As the others keep trying to communicate, Tupp shuffles over to Bartimaeus and whispers, "Have you got any ink and parchment? I might be able to draw some pictures like I saw in an old book once. Sori told me that people used to carve them in walls and stuff to tell stories. Remind me to show you when we're done, they're actually pretty neat." If the others have no luck, and Bartimaeus does have some writing supplies, Tupp attempts to prove that there is no school like the old school and draws some petroglyphs to explain the situation to the monks.

This is quite the conundrum, it doesn't appear that either group can communicate with the other effectively... Styrian's spell should help, but we shall see if it proves to be sufficient. "Tupp, my boy, I have my spell scribing instruments, but I must confess that parlaying with the enemy is an unexpected course of actions and I have not prepared any magical resources to amend such an issue as a result," he admits a little forlornly. A drawing? How clever, I shall have to remember that for my future fumbling communications.

Unless that picture works, I fear these negotiations may turn south in but a moment...

I don't have nay listed... Presumably I'd have something if I have a spellbook, but I don't explicitly have it listed. It would be up to the GM here I think. Some of my characters have all sorts of items, but with a garbage tier strength score I wasn't really feeling it! Sorry guys :/ Would Linguistics help at all here?

Though none of you are able to understand Vudrani and the monks don't seem to speak Common - or any of the other languages the party tries - Styrian and Tupp quickly come up with a crude but passable workaround. Combining the one-way understanding granted by Styrian's scroll of Comprehend Languages and Tupp's drawings, as well as some linguistic pointers from Bart, you're able to get the gist of your message across. Reshed and Zoozas at first smirk a bit arrogantly when they realize that none of you speak their language but by the time Tupp is finished with his drawings, they regard the group with a grudging respect.

"इसलिए...उनका व्यवसाय Zamir और Zamir अकेले के साथ है..." Reshed muses and turns to Zoozas. "भाई, आपको क्या लगता है? क्या हम एक तरफ खड़े होंगे और उन्हें अपने उपकरणों पर छोड़ देंगे?"

Zoozas smiles, a wicked gleam in his eye. "तुम्हें पता है, मुझे लगता है कि हमें चाहिए यदि वे बुद्धिमान थे तो वो मूर्खों के पास दीवार पर अपना रास्ता बनाते थे ...ठीक है, मुझे संदेह है कि जमीर के साथ उनकी मुठभेड़ ऐसे ही यादगार साबित होगी। उसे अनुभव से वंचित करने के लिए शर्म की बात होगी," he responds.

Nodding at each other, the two monks turn to face the party. ," they explain before stepping aside to allow you access to the stairs leading down...

Vudrani:

"So...their business is with Zamir and Zamir alone..."

"What do you think, Brother? Shall we stand aside and leave them to their own devices?"

"You know, I think that we should. If they were clever enough to make their way past those fools on the wall...well, I suspect their encounter with Zamir will prove to be just as memorable. It would be a shame to deprive him of the experience"

"Very well, we still stand aside and allow you to pass. Our other Brother, Kabrar, is still somewhere below but tell him what you have told us. If he should doubt your words, tell him, When waking a tiger, best to use a long stick. Then he'll know that you speak the truth."

Styrian smiles and nods at the monks. He fills the party in on their agreement to allow us to pass, and that their colleague is still below. "They aren't very interesting in protecting Zamir. I am unclear what their relationship is, but these two will stand aside, and ask that we communicate the same to their brother Kabrar. A passphrase in Vudrani should help: When waking a tiger, best to use a long stick."

He laughs at the awkwardness as he rehearses the passphrase in Vudrani they gave him a few times, hoping for a gesture of it's passability. "With this phrase and Tupp's excellent pictographs, we should be able to safely bypass one more monk below." With that Styrian beckons for the party to follow him towards the stairs.

Nothing to See:

Bluff: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Now hopeful that the rest of the complex will prove to be less of a challenge or hassle with the monks out of the way you all turn and begin cautiously making your way down the stone steps with Styrian in the lead and Tupp right behind.

This large basement room is set up as a workshop. There are four work benches, each with a variety of esoteric tools (hammers, chisels, mortar and pestle, etc.) spread out on them. Those in the lead can also see short hallways running north and south, each lined with six doors. There's also an open doorway leading directly to the west into a larger room and there appears to be some sort of wooden statue or figure standing in the center.

More importantly, there are also several people down here. Three men and one woman are stationed at the workbenches, chained in place by heavy iron collars. There's also two men down here that appear to be standing guard over the chained prisoners although you can see by their relaxed postures that they're clearly not very concerned about any of them trying to break free.

At the sound of the group's footsteps, the two guards both cast casual glances towards the stairs and then do a double-take when they realize that you're not anyone they might've been expecting. Both guards instantly straighten up and grip their weapons in their hands; one of them calls out,

"Hold it right there! Don't know who the Hells you are and I don't care! You'd all best turn yourselves around and march right back out the way you came!" The second guard nods vigorously, raising his handaxe in a warning gesture. All four of the prisoners look up from their work, eyes widening. Quick, glances, frightened but hopeful, pass between them but they say not a word, instead hunkering down further in their seats. All of them seem to be quite meek, their spirits largely broken.

Sense Motive (DC 20):

They put on a good show but they're clearly rattled that you managed to get past not only the archers but the two monks outside.
