GM Queen of the Razor Coast |
Hello, hello! I have decided to open another campaign and, since Razor Coast seemed to be a popular option in TSP’s thread, have decided to run a Razor Coast campaign! It will, of course, be a sandbox but with the understanding that key points in the story WILL be required. But enough gabbing about these things, let’s get to what you’ve all been waiting for: character creation guidelines!
CHARACTER CREATION (Thanks to Princey for the basic recruitment template! :3)
Starting Level: 4.
Gestalt Campaign
Allowable Races: Any official Pathfinder Races, 3PP subject to approval.
Races such as Androids WILL require working with me on a backstory and will entail special circumstances however, so consider yourselves warned!
Allowable Classes: Any official Pathfinder, 3PP subject to approval. I have never turned down a class, so expect it to be allowed unless it is the most horribly broken class ever or something! I will only allow one high sci-fi class, if any, and you MUST work with me on a backstory for your character, so consider yourselves warned!
Other Allowable Material: Any official Pathfinder, 3PP subject to approval.
Point Buy: 24 from a baseline of 10, on a 1-for-1 ratio as opposed to a scaling one, and you may reduce each score by up to 2 points from any given score to gain a like amount of points to spend on another. Obviously no stat should be above 18 or below 08 before racial modifiers. And please note if you play a character with low INT or CHA you will need to roleplay it effectively, so any Orc Barbarian/Warriors with a 6 INT and an 8 CHA, please be aware your speech will likely be along the lines of “You make Krug angry. Krug no like you! KRUG SMASH!” And for the love of all that is holy, please do not envision a character with 8 in all physical scores as being a beefcake… TSP and I had a cleric like that once that made his character look like Broly from DBZ and I was like ‘Really? Could you break the suspension of belief anymore man?’
HP: Max HP per HD.
Skills: In addition to the higher of the two skill points per level, add ½ the other skill points per level (Minus the +INT mod on this numerical value obviously).
Starting Gold: 6,000 GP + max class starting GP for both classes. Currency is weightless, but items that are effectively currency such as paintings, are not. Yes, you will all have above average wealth, but you will also be required to pay upkeep on lodgings and such, not to mention that you will need extra GP if someone chooses to invest in a ship and everyone wants to mod it up!
Traits: 1, plus a (Razor Coast, Freeport, or Skull and Shackles-exclusive trait).
Drawback: Players may take a drawback to gain access to a 3rd trait if desired.
Story Feats: Yes, you may take Story Feats, but you MUST run them by me so I can decide how they can fit into the campaign! No ifs, ands, or buts about it! Don’t worry though, I allow quite a wide latitude of acceptable concepts.
Alignment: Any, but remember the golden rule of gaming: be a team player! If you’re a loner, walk-away-from-the-party type character, please apply elsewhere.
Item Creation *SPECIAL*: You may use Spellcraft checks to break down magic items into Arcanis Residuum. Once you do so, you will gain an amount of AR equal to what percentage you rolled of the check, maximum 100%, which is used like GP to craft magic items. This dust is essentially weightless, much like currency. The process takes 1 minute per CL required to create the item, +1 minute per difference in the CL required to create the item and your own CL. Residuum also reduces the amount of time in crafting magic items to one hour per CL required or 1/3 base crafting time, whichever is the lesser value, assuming the item to be enchanted already exists and simply awaits the magic required to enchant it.
The campaign will NOT start in media res but will begin with each character alone in Port Shaw going about their business (Assuming certain characters do not begin with intertwining backstories!). After a bit of time for everyone to get a feel for the setting, players will receive a letter which will eventually bring the group together for the opening mission.
EDIT: The Razor Coast campaign setting has some fairly dark moments and some sexual content as well, so I am letting everyone know it is a much more mature campaign. And no, I see no point in 'PGing' the campaign, but the worst of the material will be spoilered under MATURE spoiler tabs.
More details to come later! :)

Hey RVT, I have this idea for a gestalt character that seems like it might fit the setting well -- a Cleric/Thief, devoted to a god of Trickster god (exact god TBD). My vision is of a cleric who casts more or less as an illusionist...which I think doesn't exist (but maybe you know of some wacky archetype or 3PP goodness I'm missing?) Any suggestions?
The closest I've found would be a Cleric (Theologian) of Deception...which starts down the right path, but still lacks most of the illusion tools I'm thinking of.
Perhaps a better fit is just to refluff a Sorcerer as a Cleric...but I know you know all kinds of wackiness out there, so I figured I'd start by just floating the concept and see if you have any suggestions.
(Suggestions from others are welcome too.)
Cheers!
EDIT: just occurred to me that I could handwave the thief side a bit (or take a level there, perhaps) but make him a Sorcerer/Oracle(heavens) to get both illusion and divine spells. I think I have options to make this work...but yeah, if you have suggestions I'd love to hear'm!
I think it'll be an entertaining character!
GM Queen of the Razor Coast |
Gyrfalcon I think TSP and I can find something to fit that character! :) There is a class sort of like a thief/illusionist called the Rook, but I'm not sure if that would fit you. It's pretty cool though!
Orin, yes indeed it is! And I know it's very hard to say no to that! ^_^
As a note, TSP will have a slot for when he feels better, so 4 characters will be accepted when all is said and done.
In case everyone is curious, Port Shaw is sort of like Port Royal in Pirates of the Caribbean. More information can be found in the linkified Player's Guide!

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I am interested in the "high-sci-fi" character slot.
My character theme is some kind of tech-ninja sort of guy. I can think of some ideas for classes that would fit the theme in one way or another.
Sneaky sneaky side:
tech side:
and i am also open to your suggestions on class, you may know of some 3pp that i dont that has a good flavor.

Gyrfalcon, I am also thinking of helping TSP co-GM on the days he feels bad or he has a doctor's appointment. I assume you would not be opposed? He has already agreed to it, he just wants player input.
But yeah, I can put it up in TSP and I's Google Docs page that we have some of our stuff in for recruitments.

My current Idea is a Dajobasu fighter/Cleric
I would have gone Shaman but I did not think these were allowed since they aren't official yet.
The basic fluff of the character includes getting thrown out of her Moamasu tribe and making her own way in the world. Eventually hearing the call of the Dolphin.

I would love to play a lizardman type, the stealthy brawn. Loyal to a captain/leader.
A muscled and mottled sinewy form silently rises from the dark calm water and extracts itself from the shadows on a moonlit wharf. Purposefully advancing as a dull blade finds freedom from its sheath and refuses to reflect the light.
Inhuman eyes pierce the darkness, unhindered.
Find the witch, save the witch... Find the...

My schedule is kind of wonky (I work part time and my fall semester is going to start up again soon) but I can generally post quite a few times in a day. I'm EST but, again, due to my wonky schedule I generally have access to the computer most of the day.
I'm currently working on crunch for an Oread Ranger/Druid (wtb +1 Wild Breastplate D: ). Once I finish the crunch I'll start working on his fluff. He's going to be a guide for people who seek to enter the jungles, but also the protector of those jungles, as well. I need to think up where he came from and how he got here, but that'll come in time.

GMT +1, I post mostly in the evenings or if I have time during work.
When not moving/changing place ect I usually post 2-3 times a day but if things are really flowing even more.
@Gerard-Friendship never is to be taken lightly. As one often treated as a pariah friends are honored and respected when made.
GM Queen of the Razor Coast |
I will close recruitment in 6 more days, sometime in the evening. I don't like giving exact hour times because of how weird my post times are.
Feral, I happen to have Rite Publishings 'In the Company of...' series and thus have a playable Minotaur race, complete with a racial paragon class that's pretty cool. If you are interested of course. I just figured you would be, given your inspiration picture.
Ixos |
Would you permit the theosophist Cleric Archetype? I have a hankering to play a more skillful cleric.
Orin Oakhammer |
I'm in PST (GMT-7, with the DST), and can post multiple times throughout the day,(7am-12pm local time).
On another note, the synergy between a zen archer monk and a conversion inquisition inquisitor is amazing. In my head I thought they would be a good match, but it's even better in practice. +WIS to knowledge checks and initiative, and Bluff, Diplomacy and Intimidate are all WIS based skills. Get all the Wisdom!!
So anyways back to the potential game, is the intention of getting a boat right off the bat, which I would be in favor for. There are some pretty cheap options outlined in the player's guide that would only cost like 2k per PC and if my options are a ring of protection +1 or a ship, well now that's not much of a choice.

I... -was- thinking of a full on fighter/barbarian character. Risky basically asked what I wanted to with the Dajobasu a moment before I did. XD... but now I'm thinking a barbarian/ranger. Hrm... could I go full croc-man with the Dajobasu look?
This is my inspiration and I want to give him a crocodile pet too. XD
The basic concept is actually a Dajobasu who was honored for his strength and skill by his tribe and seen as a protector. They might have feared him, but they dare not insult him. He was fighting a particularly odd band of what he thought were colonials only to be captured by them using tactics they never had before, underhanded ones at that.
Taken captive, he's forced into slavery for a couple years aboard the ship, often made to do the heaviest lifting and so on. But then one day the ship is attacked by pirate hunters and he see's his chance to escape. By the time the pirate hunters catch up to the pirate ship, which had slowed to a crawl, he was the only one left alive. They took him in and since then he's been helping hunt down pirates whenever he can.
Personality wise, I'm thinking a noble warrior kind of concept, with a bit of a mercenary side and a huge fan of combat. He'll literally revel in it.
Edit: Correction, he will have a small, baby crocodle for one level! XD
GM Queen of the Razor Coast |
Ixos, of course!
Orin, you may start off with a ship but because of a certain event early on, it may seem a bit redundant. Why pay when you get one for FREE? ;) Technically it won't quite yours, but still... you can use it whenever you want. If you would still like to buy your own, feel free to! Who knows, you might could find a use for two ships.
Marko, you could with a low CHA OR you could go full on Werecrocodile for part of your gestalt. The Razor Coast is a weird place and who says there aren't Werecrocs? I even have an idea for you... lol. I've got the S&S books with the stats.

would like to play Bard/Aegis if your cool with the Aegis.
I post alot I'm in I think 10 games and 3 are Gestalt. I love it. I post usually from work wich is 7:30am-4:30pm Eastern. I work in IT so I'm at my computer most of the day. Sometimes I get busy and post less but I'm good to post as long as others are posting. If things are moving I check in the evening as well. Will have a build up tomorrow and start to work on backstory.
