Antas, Ferona, Peran - 4th Day of Readying, Godsday (worship day)
Late Afternoon

Ferona, Peran, and Antas make their way to the street that runs east and west on the north side of the harbor. As the three do they see a sign hanging from a huge stone dry stack building. The sign says The Azure Harbor, it appears to be a merchant company, it appears to be very busy offloading cargo into wagons. As the three make their way east Peran sees Warfa walking along the street with three other men. Two of them appear to be officers of some type and the other appears to some sort of soldier. The wind starts to gust from the south blowing through the town and then it settles down to a low breeze. The air smells of the sea and salt it is not a refreshing smell as it blows through the harbor.

Naia nods to Thout and accepts the piece of wood to tie along the goblin's arms and then ties a loop from that down to the ankles and ties them fast to completely bind and hobble the creature. Used to whale blubber and the proper dissection of giant carcasses the stink of the still brathing goblin does not offend.

She then watches in mute amazement as Edan uses sorcery to heal Soros.

"Err...ok, I guess we aren't as hurt as we...were. Still tired though, yep. So. Let's not stay right here. Thout, I'm not keen to explore more uncharted territory, and would rather go back down and hole up in one of the rooms there - maybe one with books in it. We could do a spot of reading while we wait for the goblins to ambush us again." she adds drily.

Thout gives a bemused shake of his head at Naia's words, then addresses the group. "I'm all for readin', Naia, but let's jes check the last room on dis hall. If it's safe, we'll stay dere. If it has goblin holes or some such, we'll head downstairs. Ok? It's time te get some rest, and I'd rather be higher up when we do. I know dis house has not been nice te us, but I dinna want te be out in de rain." He reaches out and puts his hand on Edan's shoulder, "We can be safe here, Edan. We'll jes need te keep watch."

Peran Perception + Prof (Fisherman) 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 2 = 21+2 for fisherman

Peran looks out to the ocean as they walk to the street and as he peers out to the ocean. He clearly sees a clear sky with little chance of rain but the wind tells him something could blow in quickly and blow out...but with no clouds, there is not much of a chance today.

As his eyes come inward he notices something about the harbor. The tide is in...and as he watches the gulls in the water he can tell that a current push northwest by north to the north end of the harbor. From what he can tell the tide probably rolled in a few hours before sunrise. With that strong current, it would have pushed everything to the north end rather quickly. His trained eyes move to the east side of the harbor and he can see that the current seems to break apart so it is not a circular current probably due to all the ships in port right now.

Good roll.

House Party - let me know your plans.

To clarify...
Thout's survival roll was not for tying up the goblin. I believe there is no roll for tying someone up. The DC to escape is just 20+CMB, unless, of course, there are modifiers for using things like chair parts. :) The survival roll was an aid another to help Naia in fashioning the wooden portion of the restraints from the chair parts.

Regarding our plans... TBD. Thout gave his take just above.

The goblin is secured and will have a very difficult time getting out of his bindings.

Naia sighs.

"Seems like up here is well closer to the goblin's lair than down on the ground, but I'n happy to check another room - I just don't think we should hole up up here is all." She kicks the bound goblin with her foot. "What do we do with Captain Poison here?"

"Normally, you kill the goblins. Taking one prisoner just seems like a waste of good rope. Some of them will chew their own arms off rather than be trapped like that." He shrugs.

Yes, he's been indoctrinated. I have no idea if they are likely to actually do that!

"Honestly, I think we should either push on or full retreat. This is their territory. Staying in it until we've dealt with all of them is just too dangerous. I think we can press at least a little further before we need to retreat and give them a a chance to flee."

D'ogryn comes back form his inspection of the immediate surroundings.
As far as I can tell it is all clear. At least right here. We have been at this for a very long time...rest would be nice but we also need a place that would be secured to rest in. Outside may be the best but the elements would not be easy on us to rest in...especially the wounded. It might be better for us to hold up inside...here..someplace. If we rest...these bodies need to be moved away from us...outside would be ideal, maybe the front door. The goblins came in the back like we did, so I would not place them out there. There are some sacks in that room He points to the room that has the chest in it. there that may make the wounded more comfortable for the night.

He looks up at the ceiling.
If I am given some light I can visual confirm my suspicions about the space above us. That being that it is empty now. I think that there may be another way upstairs that we have not found...how did the goblins in the north hallway get there?

There is not much left to investigate on this floor. We may want to just push forward and finish it.

Healthy Female Human (Flan) Fighter 2; HP 22/22; Grazed: 16; Wounded: 11; Critical: 5; DR: 1/- || AC 17 || T 12 || FF 15; Fort +4; Ref +2; Will +2; Init +2; Per +7; SM +2; Stealth +2; CMB +5; CMD 17; Spd 30 ft. Current AC 17/12/15; Hero Points: 4/4

Naia frowns, pinching the bridge of her nose, and sags visibly. Then she rights herself and smiles a wan smile.

"Ok. A little more. C'mon then, let's go."

She looks down.

"I'm not carrying the goblin. I'm with Rab. Should brained him dead, Thout. Squirrel-squeaker'll probably only lie to us anyway..."

Edan

Edan picks up his staff and says a small prayer over the head of it and after just moment the head gives a brief glow of blue and then turns to a yellow-white light.

He then seems to say a small prayer to himself. He stands up and winces as he does from the wounds on his side.

If we feel we must clear these rooms I am all for it. I would rather get it done. He doesn't sound thrilled to do it but his stoic nature pushes him to accept it and move on.

"Greetings Warfa. I wish I had time to converse further but our time is short. Were you able to procure the...item I requested?"

Warfa and his two companinons

Ferona moves across the cobblestone street towards Warfa and his two companions. The man to his left is a man in his early twenties and of Flannish decent with a little Oeridian in him. He is an attractive man even with the leather brown patch over his left eye and the small scar behind it. You can tell he had a serious injury to his left shoulder by the way he carries it. He has a saber and a dagger at his belt and carries a brooch over his heart. You have seen the symbol before as it is the crest of Saltmarsh but there is a harbor symbol below it. The man is well dressed in the colors of Saltmarsh and in a well oiled studded leather shirt. He stands tall and appears to be a man of many ventures. The man to Warfa's right has red-brown curly hair that he keeps in a tight ponytail. He has a short red-brown beard and sharp eyes. He also is of Flannish decent with a mix of Oeridian as well but his Flan blood is strong. He carries a longsword and a dagger on his belt and wears a ring mail shirt and a collared shoulder cloak. They are not has neat or well tended as the opposite man but they are well taken care of and in orderly fashion. He has the King’s Excise Watch brooch on his cloak on the right side with the Excise Watch emblem on it. You have seen this symbol a few times already while in Seaton, Anglar, and Gradsul. He is obviously an officer and from his demeanor a veteran of some sort; probably a sailor. Both men are vastly different from Warfa who could easily blend into the shadows of a building alley or street corner in a matter of moments.

Warfa smiles quickly at Ferona and the two companions that walk in behind her. She finishes and he nods...Aye, I do but we should make this pass in a less public location. There are always eyes lurking about. He waits until Peran and Antas surround the lady. He gives them a quick nod. Nice to see you again lads...been a while. He gives them a quick smile. The man to my right is the Excise Officer he goes by Sumerlan. He looks to his left and points with his near shoulder. He is Brenden, our new harbormaster, both men were called by the dockmen along with the watch. They can answer any questions you might have about what was found. He looks over to the guards and back at Sumerlan. Sumerlan, can you get my friends down to the low dock? The man to Warfa's right nods in agreement and Warfa nods back. Looks like we can move down to the low docks and finish our discussion there so that we keep this away from wandering eyes and loose tongues.

I'm assuming that Edan healed Thout's wounds, so he is down only 1 HP atm.
Conditions: Healthy --> 15 HP

Deadlines at work have been pounding me lately and will be for a few more days. Bot me, if I'm holding things up.

"He surrendered. I couldn't kill'em. Besides, he'll have useful info and be proof we fulfilled our mission. Let's find a safe spot to sleep, and we can take'm back to town in the mornin'."

Thout checks the bindings on the bound goblin, but leaves him in the corner. "Let's clear dis room and see if we can put'im in dere." He follows procedure and advances just past the door and waits for D'ogryn.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 (alert for anything going on in the main hall, sight and sound)

Soros

Soros walks over to the corner and begins an arcane chant on the picture in the corner. The white light on the old, mildewed picture flickers blue and then back to a yellow-white light. He then moves slowly up the north hall and the seal on the window facing east, just north of the fireplace, he places his hand on it and again repeats his arcane casting and a light glows from the window seal. Between the two magical lights the light is cast down the north hall and a good portion of the east and west hall. I am done not seeing what is around the corner. If something is going to come and get us I am at least going to see it coming!

Soros

Soros spends several minutes tending to Thout's wounds. He cleans the wounds up and then calls on Berna to heal each of the wounds. Thout can feel the divine magic course through the wounds and he can see his flesh heal. The magic is not strong enough to close the wounds entirely but it helps a great deal. Thout feels better as Edan finishes up with his prayers. He pats Thout on the shoulder...It is the best I can do for now. A couple of nights of good rest...if we ever get any will complete the healing.

Thout is 15 of 16hps and Healtlhy.

We attempted to gain access prior to meeting you yet your guards did an admirable job in following their orders. I am most impressed!" She smiles in appreciation before another thought occurs to her. "Have your guards reported any others who have attempted to gain access to the crime scene...or have they seen any one else lurking about?"

The man to Warfa's right gives Ferona a smile as if she made a slight blunder and gently takes her hand. But the man is a gentleman through and through and corrects her quickly and quietly. Me lady those are not our men. Brenden is charged with the Harbor and who can and can't come in it and can have access to the docks. I am charged with the Excise duties and I have a small company of men to carry out those duties. The City Guard or the watch as Warfa calls them is under Geolin Ironteeth and trust me when I tell you that he is clearly in charge of the watch and the title is well deserved. However, because we are involved Commander Geolin has given us access to inspect the area if needed. They will let us pass. Warfa lets Sumerlan finish as he looks at them and then at the guards and to the area in question. We should make our way down and we can finish our discussion there. The harbormaster, Brenden Freed agrees with everything Sumerlan states and even smiles and shrugs when Sumerlan makes the comment about Geolin. Not a dwur you want to get on the bad side of...he lives up to his family name.

Male human (Oeridian) Cleric of St. Cuthbert;

Peran greets the newcomers a little absently as something niggles at the back of his brain. Something about the fashion of the tide and currents in the harbour has set some ideas loose and he suddenly realizes how this information might help in their current case.

"Is this where the body was found? It has not been moved?" he asks as the group arranges itself on the lower docks, out of the sight of casual passers-by.

Sumerlan excuses himself for one moment with a nod. Excuse me for a moment let me attend to the guards so we can get down the lower dock. He walks off from the main party and goes to talk to the two young guards. They seem to protest for moment but then the officer seems to adjust their attitudes in a manner only an officer can. The older guard seems to submit and nods several times quickly. Sumerlan turns to the group and waves them over. They pass and the two guards nod to each of them as professionally as they can. Sumerlan then turns back to the younger guard. Go inform your superiors that the Excise Officer and the Harbor Master are going to inspect area once again with some additional assistance. We will not leave until you return.

The six of you make your way down an old wooden staircase that goes down to the water and to a floating dock that is twenty feet squared. It is old but in good condition. Tied to it are several small rowboats and one small fishing boat with a mast. There are two more floating docks tied to piers and the pillars of the upper deck. Both docks are the same size and are about ten feet or so apart. There are planks that are joined to the floating docks so that one person could walk easliy across to each dock. As your group make their way down you notice no one is on the three floating docks. The boats are all tied off and empty except for oars and sailcloth.

Sumerlan looks around and above to the stairs and then turns to the three companions. I asked the guards and they said no one has gone here except for the officers of the town guard, myself and Brenden. Also, a few of my men were the first officials who arrived as they were inspecting a nearby merchant cog.

Brenden turns to Peran and points at the middle dock. The girls body was found there stuck between that row boat and that skiff. Face down...her dress had been ripped off her and was hanging at waist...well floating...

Sorry about my lack of posting guys. RL has been interfering with me, plus I have been sick as well. I should be able to get back to it next week :)

Ferona glances about the dock area surveying the scene in her mind, affixing all of the features in her mind.

Such a picturesque scene... she thinks idly to herself.

Steeling herself here she slowly approaches the middle dock area where the body lay, stumbling slightly in her heels in the wet sand. I know this will not be pleasant to see but I need to be strong here. No one else must fall prey to this...MONSTER!

As she lays eyes upon the girl's corpse she quashes any emotions down and instead focuses on the corpse in a clinical fashion. Leaning closer she visually examines the body for any unusual features.

"I trust either one of you can tell how she was...murdered?"

If we are continuing...then we should check the upstairs. I am not sure even I could climb up those stairs or what is left of them. The Goblins cut a nice set of steps that I could use to get up there. I am the smallest here and my weapons are good in close if it gets tight. I am not sure I will even be able to get up there.

He looks to Edan and nods.
I could use some light...one that will not burn the place down if I drop it.
The young cook picks up a broken arrows shaft and holds it out to Edan.
Will this do?
He then looks around the room a bit more thoroughly. Moving to the dead Goblins, he cuts off pieces of clothing.

Once a proper light source is found, D'ogryn walks back to the room with the steps cut into the wall. Removing his make shift trap from under the sack, he fluffs the sack up a bit.
Just in case I should need something to fall on.

He move to the steps and shoves the fabric that he cut from the Goblins into the makeshift steps.
I know where I placed the grease so I should not have any problems but this may help.

Placing the broken arrow in his belt as he climbs up the steps. He takes his time when he gets to the area where the grease is. Planting his footing so that he pushes out towards the side in hopes that he will not slip. Once he make it up to the hole. He reaches down and pulls forth his light source. Extending his hand into the dark hole and he waits for a reaction.

Understood. Ferona will examine the area around where the body was first located then and see if there is anything unusual. Disregard the Knowledge roll then.

Antas begins at the dock and along the small boats near by looking for anything of interest and then he will remove his armor and the a rope off on the dock just in case and then climb down in the water and check the water for anything

b]Antas, Ferona, Peran - 4th Day of Readying, Godsday (worship day)[/b]
Late Afternoon
-------------------------------------
Party Skill, Save, and Ability Check Macros Sheet

As Ferona inspects the area Antas moves off to spot and takes off his armor and gear. Grabs a rope that is secured to the first lower dock and gets into the water. Sumerlan Benson begins to say Antas....I wouldn't get in that water it is cold fellow... Antas makes his way in and finds out for himself as he drops into the cold saltwater his muscles around his chest and torso tighten as if wanting to expel the air out because of how cold the water is...As he comes to surface he expels the air out By the all the gods of law and mercy this water is cold! Sumerlan laughs...more snort as he looks at the harbor master... Yes the water is cold. Watch out for barnacles along the piers they can cut you up quick if you are not careful.

Ferona doesn't see anything of note around the area and after a few moments of inspect Antas realizes the water is both deep...maybe twenty to thirty feet deep and he is unsure but he thought he saw some shadows beneath him that was just as big as he is...the fact it is all in shadows plays on his fears rather quickly. Sumerlan turns to Ferona. Ma'am one of my men, a Corporal, was one of the men that assisted in bringing the body up. Will Stoutly, I can arrange for him to speak to you if you need to. Her body was floating in the water...some crabs and other sea life had fed on her but nothing big. I believe Iborian said she must have been choked to death as she has bruises around her neck and scratches along her jaw and on the back of her neck where she must have struggled to pull the murderer's grip away. The ranger also stated that she was not robbed because she still had several small rings and ear rings on her...but I believe the father said that a necklace was missing. It could have been lost in the attack or while she was in the water. Brenden listens and when the Excise Officer finishes he chimes in as well. These lower docks are mostly empty until the early morning hours but we have caught smugglers in the past coming in here to drop off goods to fences and black marketeers in the city late at night when the docks are empty. It has been a while and we have not had to raid these docks in a long while. For the most part, this area is quiet until an hour or so before sunrise when the fisherman start to make their way down to ready their boats and gear. Crabbers also pull their traps up to check them and fisherman that have long lines out check for morning catches to sell on the docks. Brenden looks around...It was the fisherman that tie their boats off down here that found the body...it is a bad sign so most will not take their boats out for a good few days until they feel the ill omens have passed.

You mean the storage room where the goblins came out of the hole and landed on the sack that was trapped? I put you there and moved the goblin corpses over to the north as I figured all of you would have moved them away from the hole to inspect that area. This is the room with the big wooden chest, burlap sacks, and such.

The collapsed stairs are missing five steps so it would require a successful semi-vertical jump or a climb (with some risk of the stairs giving way) on the stairs going up to the attic on the landing (19).

I moved the group into the area I think you all want to be with Naia standing by the captured goblin.

Ferona nods slowly as she processes the information in her mind. "Yes I would very much like to interview Corporal Stoutly...and also I would like to see the...body with my own eyes." Raising her eyebrow at Antas at his actions...while trying not to stare too long in admiration at his form...she shakes her head ruefully. "I certainly hope you do not catch the chills from that escapade Antas!"

Turning back to face Sumerlan she asks, "Do you recall the most recent occasion where you encountered these so-called 'smugglers'? Perhaps they have resumed their nocturnal activities?"

While it would make little sense for smugglers to draw attention to themselves by murdering that poor young girl, mayhap she stumbled upon something she should not have seen? Easy Ferona...just stick to what you know for certain...which is sadly little at this time. She thinks to herself.

Male human (Oeridian) Cleric of St. Cuthbert;

Using his knowledge of the currents within the harbour, Peran attempts to calculate where a body might end up in the water for the currents to bring it here.

"There is a possibility that this is not the place of the murder at all. The currents in this harbour work in a somewhat circular pattern. It is possible that she was murdered elsewhere and the body disposed into the water only to be carried by the current and deposited here."

Thout had moved just north of the next door, but given that D'ogryn is up to tricks (lol), Thout would have moved south to see what is going on and try to stop him...

D'ogryn moves north up the hallway and Thout sighs, glad to be making progess. But once D'ogryn gets to the storage room door and announces he is checking upstairs, Thout turns around in surprise. Realizing events are not unfolding as expected, he says, "D'ogryn, I dinna think..." his words lost as D'ogryn ducks into the room. Thout moves south, back to the door D'ogryn just entered only to see him disappear into the goblin hole. "Oh no! What is going on? We need to find a safe place to rest! We've completed the mission, but for cleanup. We need to get back safe!" Thout gives the others an exasperated look, "I canna go through that hole. Dis be folly!"

Thout has his shield ready and his waraxe out. His current location is fine, but depending on how much time elapses between D'ogryn entering the goblin hole and whatever is about to happen happens, he would have started moving towards the stairs at 19 to see about attaching a grappling hook to climb up while avoiding the collapsed stairs.

The olf doesn't argue with anyone at this point, keeping his mouth shut and his ears open.

He's not particularly happy about how things are unfolding, though, and anyone who takes the time to look at him can see he's unsettled.

"No heroics, D'Og." Apparently he can't actually keep his mouth completely shut.

Don't plan on it. Just need to make sure we are safe...if we decided to rest. Better to know now that there is something more upstairs than later.

D'ogryn responds to Rabalar, and Thout spies Rabalar's discomfort. Thout's confidence rises in response, and he can't help but say his piece, venting a bit of his growing crankiness, "On de first floor, ye wouldn't touch de stairs 'til we finished the level. Now, ye can't wait te get to de third. We can't know everythin' about this house. Yet. What we need is a defensible position. Te rest. Ye want us te sleep upstairs? Go ahead, then. But if not, our explorin' needs te be here. Remember, if the centipedes get ye, ye won't be able to yell..."

Don't actually know whether or not you could yell while dazed from a centipede bite, but I thought it sounded good, so I threw it in! lol

Naia bites her tongue, obviously fighting the urge to chime in. Raised eyebrows are all she gives Thout. Harpoon in hand, Naia tries to trace D'og's movements above, or discern movement elsewhere in the house.

With her head craned upward, Naia remembers the danger nearest.

As D'ogryn climbs he stops. Adjusting his climb so that he is stable where he is on the wall and slowly turns his head to look directly at Thout. He facial features are filled will lines of exhaustion and something else...Anger. Since he was so close to the hole, his voice drops a bit in volume.

are you done with the lecture?...You would think way up there on your soapbox of the watch..you would be able to hear what others have to say...perhaps next time you could listen to those words before you talk down at them. Now if you will be so kind as to let me get back to the task of securing this room from the possibility of something coming in at us from above while we are resting...that would be great.
and without waiting to see if he was or not, the young cook slowly turns back to the task at hand.

Thout's frustration overflows, "We're not stayin' in dis room! Tis not secure!" He looks at the others to gauge their responses before continuing, "My soapbox gives great perspective. But those with wooden heads cannot speak or hear sense." Thout watches as D'ogryn disappears into the hole, "Figures the last thing I'd see would be his ass..." "Watch D'ogryn. I'll check de broken stairs."

I'm just (role)playing this out. Thought being young, tired, and a dwarf with average charisma, he'd be a bit cantankerous. Hope nobody minds.

Edan

Edan looks at the shaft and shrugs in agreement. He says a small prayer over the shaft as he finishes calling on the favor of Berna in his native tongue the end of the arrow lights up in a faint blue glow that turns to yellow-white. D'ogryn nods in approval and Edan smiles. It should last about ten minutes are so enough for you to make your inspections.

He looks up at the hole. Be careful.

D'ogryn turns and begins to place the lite end of the shaft into the hole and as he does something attempts to attack the arrow shaft and his hand from the hole. The thing's head is flat, brown and black with long antenna probing around the edge of the hole and touching the shaft. Its mandibles strike quickly at D'ogyrn who is no position to really defend himself. The roach seems to lunge for D'ogryn's hand and the shaft. From the hole the only thing anyone who is looking at the hole just above the cook's head is two long black whip-like things flicking in and out of the hole around the shaft with the light on it.

I adjusted everyone's location since you guys were all talking. I moved Naia by the door just under ten feet away from the Goblin. You notice D'ogryn's startled reaction and the whip-like antennas that were similar to the roach downstairs.
