know religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

For the Knowledge checks:

The cultists you've run into so far have been those of Baphomet. They operate under the 'Temple of the Ivory Labyrinth', and are infamous for infiltration and corruption.

There is a gathering of grayish-red smoke, and with a loud CRACK! a huge fiery-red beetle appears and attacks Anevia! It's pincers saw into her broken leg, causing her to fall prone on the floor with a cry.

Round One: Group A (Farasha, Sjurd), beetle, Group B (Bollwerk, Kazul, Fabian.) Map posted. GO!

Farasha swears as the demonic-looking thing appears in their midst, a quick mental inventory leaving her with no other option, she opens fire with her bow, fervently wishing she had better ammunition for such occasions.

longbow RS 1: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 1 = 24

longbow RS 2: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12
piercing: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Sjurd's first instinct is to summon creatures to combat, but there is little room in the home. He tries to take a shot with his crossbow, but misses wide.

Farasha's first shot nicks the beetle, barely scratching it. The second bounces off of its chitinous shell.

Anevia tries desperately to fend off the creature with her hands, but with a broken leg, it is a futile effort. Once again, the mandibles grab and tear at her, gashing her arms.

Group B, Go!

Moving in to attack C5 Bollwerk slashes at the beetle.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 151d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Kazul, Fabian?

Sorry about that.

Kazul moves in to B5 and slashes at the beetle.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11...I don;t think I get flanking or sneak attack since Farasha does not threaten with a bow.
Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 = 8

Kazul the Destroyer misses with the Falchion of Instant Death. Fabian activates his Ward ability. +1 AC within 10' of Fabian.

I put the wrong % in for the beetle's health, all fixed.

Round 2: Group A, go!

Sorry! Didn't realize I'd fallen behind. If I can still have my Group B round 1 action, here it is:

Fabian holds up his staff, speaks an arcane word, and activates his Protective Ward. An almost-invisible pulse of energy radiates out from him to a radius of ten feet.

Effect in progress (for 3 more rounds): Allies within 10ft of Fabian get a +1 Deflection bonus to AC.

If you roll that '1', reroll to confirm that it isn't a critical miss.

Farasha's arrow pierces the creature, killing it.

No sooner does it die, than another swirling mist coalesces into a second beetle! This one goes straight for Anevia as well, grabbing her bad leg in its mandibles. She screams in agony as it drags at the broken limb.

Those chairs and tables on the map are present, so if you are going to try and move across them, I need Acrobatics (DC 10), or Dex (DC 15) checks. Or any other action you may want to try.

Group B

Oops! I forgot we were doing critical misses. Sorry.

Fabian takes a step back from the beetle (to square E3). He holds out his staff and speaks some arcane words. An icy ray leaps from his staff in the general direction of the beetle.... However, the ray misses the creature and merely leaves a spot of cold on the ground.

Casting Ray of Frost

Ranged touch attack, including -4 for shooting into melee: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
Potential cold damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

Fabian does wonder about the beetle coalescing from the mist; does he recognize a spell or a magical effect in progress?

Spellcraft or Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
(Both have the same bonus.)

Fabian:
It does seem odd, but you can't quite put your finger on it.

Kazul leaps to the table top and hacks the beetle in two. As the pieces settle, Bollwerk's healing brings a pained smile to Anevia's face.

"Th-thank you." Anevia says heavily. "I don't know where..."

"YOU'LL DIE, AND YOUR WIFE WILL FIND YOUR CORPSE IN BED WAITING FOR HER!" screams a voice. A half-orc, dressed red armor, appears out of nowhere in the open doorway. He slashes at the prone Anevia with a wicked-looking ranseur. The blade pierces her side, and she falls unconscious, bleeding profusely from the wound.

"AHAHAHAHAAAA!" the half-orc laughs maniacally, and raises the ranseur to finish her...

Moving over chairs, Fabian circles around behind Farasha, and activates his protective ward.

I can't see the letters on the squares, but he's moving to the square just to the right of Farasha. That way, the ward will include everybody, including the downed Anevia and the prone Bollwerk.

Effect in progress: everybody within 10ft of Fabian gets a +1 Deflection bonus to AC. 3 rounds left.

Sjurd's stab with his spear goes awry, lodging the point deep within the wood of the door frame. That's a DC 10 STR check to pull it free.

Kazul...

Bollwerk, not sure if you are asking for an explanation of how the critical miss works?

Yep. Am a bit confused. I am not sure how it works as I know quite a few rules.
And also why does sjurd stroke goes awol, if he rolled a 20 first.

Oops, my bad on Sjurd's roll. I was in a hurry and looked at the damage roll instead of the Attack roll, so I thought he critically missed too. Big mistake! As far as critical misses, if you roll a '1' on your initial roll, it is a potential critical miss. Roll again, and if you miss (not roll another '1', just miss) then it confirms the critical miss.

retcon Sjurd stabs the orc, causing him to grunt in pain. He stays focused on Anevia though, his rage driving him on.

Still Kazul's turn.

Kazul moves to C3 and attacks!

The half-orc steps back and mutters the words to a spell...

A vivid cone of clashing colors springs from his hand, washing over everyone in the doorway and Farasha.

Presuming Kazul moved to C2 when attacking to provide LOS for us ranged types...

Taking full advantage of the magical silence to utter a few choice curse words that their enemy could somehow still cast spells despite her best efforts, Farasha shrugs and goes back to basics, aiming carefully to try and turn the half-orc in to a pincushion.

Mwk longbow: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 1 = 19
piercing: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Two things: Unless he cast defensively, the half-orc provokes for casting a spell in a threatened area. Second, even if he cast defensively, he provokes an AoO from Kazul for using ranged ray in a threatened square.
If so: AoO: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 2d4 + 7 ⇒ (2, 4) + 7 = 13

If spell went off....Kazul's screams of pain thankfully cannot be heard due to the silence. He moves to C1 now and attacks the mage again!
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 2d4 + 7 ⇒ (3, 1) + 7 = 11

Sjurd begins waving his hands in a complex, arcane sort of way and mumbles words under his breath.

Begin summoning my eidolon, since I cannot do anything else (if anyone has suggestions given our limited space, I would be open to it)

The half-orc sorceror twists and ducks, laughing silently as he dodges arrows while his magical armor turns aside falchion blows. His mirth is cut short as Kazul's second attack cuts him deeply.

Spell did go off. Need Bollwerk and Fabian.
