Male Human Ranger 2

Reynard takes careful aim at the goblin's back, taking his time, and fires.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

"I'm going to shove this up that salesman's ass!" He hisses as the bolt veers horribly wide.

Wits shakes the flask in his hand, causing the liquid to bubble violently. "Bad dog! Bad goblin! FETCH!" He throws it at the goblin's dog, trying to avoid hitting the cowering man

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 fire and 5 fire splash

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

Luc followed the party. In the surprise round, he throws dagger at goblin's dog.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 2 + (1) = 6

Male Human Fighter/ 1

Emanual runs to get into position between the goblin and man behind the crates.

Dean Ninian Beard wrote:

Attack: 1d20-6

I figure improvised and another -5 for it being the second attack in the round, + his Dex and PB bonus.

I was only joking ;)

The Goblin turns looking startled as he hears voices, only to be hit full in the face by Wit'z flying flask, and momentarily engulfed in flame. Moments later Luc's arrow similarly hits it square on. It sways in the saddle, but doesn't fall.

The mount howls in pain as the concoction rains down on it.

The goblin swings it's mount around, and charges Wits, bringing it's weapon flying down, cleaving through Wits' clothes and armour, leaving him unconscious and bleeding on the floor. confirmed crit, for 16 points of damage...

Sir Herbert Atkins wrote:

Me too;P If you notice, I didn't even bother to do the math right.

Ninian shuffles forward five feet, draws a dagger and sends it spiraling towards the goblin.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

Without a map or more description, I have no idea what square everyone is, which I need to know to see if I can flank.

Luc Dantés wrote:

At this point, there isn't much to it. You are all at the end of the alleyway, except Emanual who got past the little wretch (should prabably be an AAO for that little move, but he wasn't acting in the surprise round, so he didn't get it). Finaly, the wealthy man is at the end.

The allyway is 10ft wide, and the goblin has reach, so getting past him will be interesting.

That said, if you want to move to flank, you can give it a go....

The light! It calls me!

Wits is at -9 HP. Oh Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling...

Male Human Fighter/ 1

Since Emanual is behind the goblin, he will move to a square to get a flank with Luc. He also calls out while moving, "Someone help the little guy! He will not last much longer!"

Power Attack the goblin 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
2d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 4) + 8 = 13
Extra Crit damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 4) + 8 = 15

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

Thanks DM. Nice hit, Emanual, most likely the end of the little goblin!

Male Human Fighter/ 1

Thanks. I don't think 13 will confirm, but maybe the regular 13 damage will still drop him. We shall see. Anyone have any healing for the gnome? I've got nothing.

After releasing the dagger, Ninian sees the little gnome go down under a massive blow. He rushes to the gnome, skidding to a halt on his knees and checks for a pulse. Then he proceeds to try and stabilize the wounds.

Heal skill check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Edit: I think this actually should take place in round two.

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

DM, if you look, I actually threw my dagger at the beast, not the goblin (I mistakenly called him his dog).

If Emanual is also flanking the beast, Luc will attack the beast with his rapier and miss. Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

If Emanual does not flank the beast, Luc will throw a dagger at it from 10' away and miss even worse. Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Luc Dantés wrote:

Ok, I'll make sure I re-jig what damage was done where. Technically it's a Goblin Dog, so "dog" isn't too far out! Just wait for Raynard to post and then round up.

Male Human Ranger 2

Reloading Raynard lets fly at the filthy beast.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 1d10 ⇒ 1

A stream of curses erupts from the man's mouth as he drops the crossbow, reaching for his rapier.

Ok, small retcon, the goblin dog went down on the last round, between Luc, and Witz....

Ninian throws his dagger true, it sticks into the neck of the goblin, causing it to yelp in pain, just at that moment, Emanual's great sword swings down, and cleaves the thing in two, from head to pelvis.

The alleyway goes earily quiet as the noise from the town is dimmed by the walls, and the two foes stop moving in a heap on the ground.

Ninian's heal action would indeed come in the next round, but that's a moot point, so it may as well stand.

Well done! It would seem you are victorious.

The man at the end of the alleyway stands stairing at the carnage that just occurred in front of him, and then turns and laudly vomits into a stack of crates. He takes a silk kerchief from a pocket and wipes his face as he turns to face you.

Male Human Ranger 2

"Ahh don't you just love nobles?" Raynard mutters to no one in particular.

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

Luc picks up his daggers from the floor and inside the dead beast and wipes the blood off, smearing it on the goblin dog. Then he looks at the noble and says "Merci or thank you is the traditional greeting when strangers save your life! Parlez-vous francais?"

"Oui, bien sûr, il est enseigné à tous les garçons de la classe. Merci beaucoup, je suis à votre dette. Mai je être utile à votre ami?"

French substituting for Elven then? I can live with that. ;)

Oh and yes, that heal check was fine. Wits is stable, but unconscious.

Sir Herbert Atkins wrote:

"Peut-être, je vais leur demander". Luc looks at the party's dumbfounded gazes. "The noble says he is very grateful and asks if he could help us in some way."

I pictured a Victorian setting, so my character is part French. :)

Luc Dantés wrote:

That's fine by me, I'm trying to keep most of the cannon of the setting correct, and just inject a Victorian steam-tech feel, so yeah, a bit of french for the upper classes could be good.

You have Common and Elvan as languages for Luc, which is why I said frnch substituting for Elvan, and like I say, I'm happy to run with that. I would have picked Chelish as the French myself, but wither way works.

You have a dead goblin, and it's dog (well, the dog is just unconscious, but the goblin is well gone...), an unconscious Wits, and a very scared, possibly nobel born man waiting on your attention.

The sounds of fighting have died down, possibly it's a continuation of the effects of being in the alleyway, but it seems too quiet for that, probably the fight is over, and the goblins dispersed.

It has started to rain, a light drizzle of the kind that gets you very wet, very quickly. The sun has set, and the streets are still dark, without someone to light the gas lights in the streets.

Male Human Ranger 2

"We should probably get the little guy to a cleric." Reynard says looking at Wits.

The area you started in, so not very far back, had a large Church in the background.

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

"Let's head to the Church immediately. And you", looking at the noble, "this poor fella amost died saving your life. I hope you will take care of the expenses. It would be the noble thing to do." With that, Luc asks someone to pick up the gnome and we all rush to the Church.

The man kocks his head to one side, and takes a small card from his pocket. Handing it to Luc he says quietly, "Bien sûr, s'il vous plaît me trouver ici quand vous avez reposé. Je serai disponible pour les trois prochains jours. Merci, mon ami.".

Spoiler:
The card reads, "Baron Benedict Ramsbottom, Ramsbottom Mannor, Sandpoint-Mangnimar byway, Varisia." On the reverse, hand written, it says "Room 3, The Rusty Dragon, Sandpoint."

Anything else anyone wants to do before going to the church?

Male Human Fighter/ 1

Emanual will gently pick up Wits and follow the others to the church.

Ninian follows along.

Sir Herbert Atkins wrote:

Find a crossbow dealer and kick his ass.

Wits moans gently as he is moved. For a moment his eyes open. "Must research better healing potions... And replenish the volatile... Don't drink the green potions!" With this he falls back into his stupor.

Dean Ninian Beard wrote:

I'll let you keep that in mind!

you backtrace your steps, slowly through the deserted streets, in ever increasing drizzle. Soon you are at thd door of an old stone built church. It's gothic stonework and iron mongary giving an eerie air in the flickering light of gas that surrounds the entrence. Obviously someone took the time here to light up the place.

Inside there is a bustle of ladies in full skirts carrying water and enamle bowls. A youngish man greats you, wearing a simple but well tailored suit. He is obviously about to ask your business when he notices Wits. "Oh!" He exclaims, "Come, I'll fetch Father Zantos, he is our most skilled healer. Place your friend in this room." he indicates a small antichambre with a bed, covered in clean linnen, and scurries off.

Male Human Ranger 2

"Goblins usually attack around here?" Reynard asks one of the women who seems less busy.

"Well, we get goblins though often enough, causing trouble, and stealing rubbish, and setting fires, but only in ones and twos. I've never heard of anything like this." The woman says, and then bustles off again, to see to someone else.

A few moments later an aged Cleric enters. He is obviously worn out by the day's activity, there must have been quite a few people injured in the attack, and he looks very tired.

"Ah, so this is my newest patient?" he says as he begins to look Witz over. "I am afraid all of my gifts from Desna have been used for the day, healing injured villagers. I do have some potions left though, and the influx is dying down. I shall do what I can for him."

With this he moves to a small trolley the woman brought in earlier, and unlocks a cabinet, built into it. Taking out three vials, the first two are applied to no obvious effect, but with the third, Witz wakes. (now on 4 HP). "Ah, there we go. Now, you are not completely healed, but I should be able to resolve that issue in the morning, if you would stay for the night's rest?"

"Great Wheels!" Wits inhales sharply as the last of the major wounds knit themselves shut on his chest. "I thank you Father! That final thrust was a well placed one! I did not expect a goblin to have such skill! I won't be mistaken again, I assure you. Of course I will stay the night. Your aid tomorrow will be most helpful!"

"Easy there my friend. With the blessing of Desna, we shall have you right as rain in the morning. Now, rest, if you can. I know those potions can induce hyper-activity." With that, he turns and leaves. "Oh, your friends are welcome to stay here if they wish. We have an annex that will fit you in, if you have nowhere else."

Ok, Wits is following Dr's orders and sleeping it off. What about the rest of you?

I haven't forgotten about XP, you have some coming....

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

"Will come see you in the morning, little buddy", Luc tells Wits. He then looks for the Sheriff to see how many goblins he and his men killed.

"Sorry little dude. I used up all my special tricks early up in the fighting. Hopefully next time I can get you a real heal."

Ninian joins Luc in talking with the sheriff, attempting to find out if he has any news of the goings on.

Male Human Ranger 2

Reynard joins, curious as to the cause of local goblin activity.

Male Human Fighter/ 1

Emanual will ask someone in the church if there is a place he could prepare a meal for his companions. If not, he will find a space outside to build a fire and cook. I will take 10 on my Profession cook check for a total of 18. When it is done I will offer some to Wits if he is awake, and offer some to te others when they return. "Its not the best I've done, but it is fitting and filling. Please, have some." The meal is a vegetable stew with with very fragrant spices and just a touch of spicy.

As you appear to be taking the Father up on his offer, he sends for a boy to show you to the rooms he has. This is a small guest annex, more than big enough to house you all comfortably, with it's own kitchen facilities, and entrance.

Once everything is stowed, Emanual launches into his preparations with gusto, fantastic smells soon wafting from his kitchen. Passers by start to appear, with friendly inquiries as to what's cooking.

The rest of you leave, and make your way to the garrison in search of the sherrif.

I'll post up the rest around lunchtime, just wanted to keep things moving. I'm away for the weekend starting tonight until Sunday. I have access to post, but it may be intermittent, and really badly spelt :)

Those travelling to see the Inspector:
Emanuel is in the Kitchen as you pass out into the night again. You move quickly across the cobbles, pulling collars and hoods up against the rain, through the still unlit streets. The night is dark, and the rain is getting harder.

A few minutes brings you to the Garrison. The doors are locked and barred from the inside. Their solid, studded oak standing imposing and implacable. A few repeated knocks, brings a constable to the door.

"Evening Sirs, what can I be doing for you then" he says through a peep hole. You can see even from here though, that he is a uniformed officer, helmeted, and low ranking.

From behind the man a deep voice booms, "Oh for the love of God Jenkins, don't leave a man stood out in the rain! They will no doubt wish to speak to me, as all of the others. Bring them in, dry them off, and I will see them in the main interview room, in 5 minutes." Jenkins gives a weak grin, snaps the peep hole shut, and opens the door proper. He steps back for you to enter, allowing warmth and light to flood out into the night."Sorry about that, please, put your coats on the stand, and come this way." he gestures to a coat/hat stand, and then shows you through the building to a room, bare except for one large table, and some chairs. "Inspecter'll be with you in a minute.

I'll spoiler these interactions you don't all take part in unless someone has some objection?

the inspector:
the inspector enters after a few minutes. He still wears his full dress uniform, brass buttons sparkling, despite the mud, water, and sword cuts. He smells faintly of gunpowder, but that could be normal for the large man.

"well friends, I'm sorry to say I haven't been able to learn your names, but news of your deeds has reached me. You seem to have killed more goblins than the rest of
my garrison put together! That's quite a feat. It causes me great pity that I cannot reward you with anything but words. I hope reward wasn't your reason to bf here, but I would expect this rain would keep gold diggers away. So, that beggs the question, why are you here?"

he sits, watching your reaction to all this.

"I am a sort of, investigator of these kinds of happenstances. I don't believe in coincidences nor chance. Something stirred up these goblins and we mean to find out why."

Male Human Ranger 2

"I know goblins pretty well, hunted enough of the little bastards, this wasn't normal. Crazy as they were in the thick of it, how the hell did they plan something like this without blowing it? I mean they're pretty much born crazy."

Dark Archive

Wintergreen's CE PA IT Geek 10/Daddy 9/Physicist 3/Cartographer 1/Runner 3/Cub Scout Leader 2/Musician 1

I'm glad you said that. Shows good character, and critical thinking. We have a couple of the damn things downstairs, not got much out of them though, other than that thir leader was "one of you longshanks". Aparently there were goblins from most of the local tribes involved, told to burn the place to the ground. The question is, who was the human involved? Well we can dwell on that over the next few days. I am in two minds about a trip to magnimar to bring back some troops to route them out after this. I can't see them causing any more trouble for a while, the losses we've just caused them."

"Now, I plan a good hot bath, a good meal, and a good nights rest. I reccomend you take the same, unless there is anything else I can do for you?"

"A hot bath sounds great. My leg is killing me." Ninian says as he rubs his bum leg. "Do you think the temple has a bath? If not, I think hitting a bathhouse might be a good idea. Followed by a massage parlor"

Male Human Ranger 2

"Now that is something I can get behind."

There is a bath house in town, indeed. It has a half-orc massuse that specialises in Vudran techniques. Well, if you've no further questions? the inspector asks, rising, Will I see you around the town in the next few days?
