A slightly steampunked up Rise of the Runelords. I've stayed close to the text for this first part, but plan to move away from it as we progress....

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

Luc holds off action, if possible

I'm quite happy for you to sweap and change actions if someone posts soemthing that conflicts, or even "if...then" scenarios. Just make sure to do it before I do the round up! ;)

Just waiting for Witz and Raynard.

Witz will pull another of his precious flasks from his backpack and advance 20 feet toward the pyro goblins. By the gods, he'd show them what a true fire looked like!

Male Human Ranger 2

Reloading as he mutters to himself, Reynard looses another shot, this time at one of the fire weilding goblins.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

On grounds of being a generally nice person, I'm going with this: In the heat of battle, holding off while someone behind you fires an arrow, isn't going to happen, add into that the fact that you would not defeat the Warchanter's armour with Ninian's shot, but would a normal goblin (just) and the fact that all the goblins are easily within range (keeping to Chop's criteria for re-aiming.....) and we have one dead goblin pyro, as you will see in a min...

Witz moves forward, shuffling in his pack, but keeping out of range of thew Warchanter....

Emanual slips as he fires off yet another crossbow bolt, embedding it into the floor at his feet, rather than the goblin he aimed for....

The two Goblins move towards Witz in a menacing mannor, obviously waiting for him to get closer beofre they charge in. Their fire sticks burn brightly as they trace patterns in the air. Mid swirl, one of them takes a bolt right through the neck, and collapses to the floor. A small "whoop" is heard from Ninian as he finally hits home. raynards bolt is just as accurate, but does less damage to the other goblin, which screams, and gesticulates wildly, but doesn't go down.

Luc closes with the goblin warchanter, fending off it's swipes with his rapier, but not manageing to conenct with flesh and do damage. The warchanter attacks back with fury, but likewise doesn't achive any real result.

Round Three

Thanks Sir.

Ninian kisses his crossbow and maneuvers himself past Luc and the warchanting goblin, then positions himself with the goblin warchanter directly between him and Luc. As he moves, anyone who had taken note of his signature limp sees it disappear as he moves faster than anyone else they have seen. Once there, he pulls out his cane-sword and positions himself to swing.

Move 40ft to flanking position, then draw weapon.

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

Luc delays to allow Dean to move first to get flank. One he has flank, he lashes out with rapier: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17; Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Luc Dantés wrote:

I think you get sneak attack damage as well with the flank.

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

True, thanks. If I hit, add 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage for a total of 9 damage.

Male Human Fighter/ 1

Emanual will drop his crossbow and move to attack the other torch bearing goblin. If I can get to him this round...

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17

Wits will hold his action until the end of the round to see if the remaining goblins go down before he needs to light them on fire.

Male Human Ranger 2

If Emannuael gets to him I'd rather not fire into melee

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

Ok, that's about 80 hours of non-appearance. Did we lose our DM?

Witz and Raynard stand still, in a flurry of other movement. Emannual's charge intercepts the goblin waving around it's torch, and his greatsword again swings with unerring accuracy. The little runt goes down in a pile of green flesh and cotton.

Ninian and Luc give the impression of men who have trained together for life, their attacks coordinating into a flurry of blows the small goblin bard cannot hope to defend. With a scream of anguish, it too collapses into a heap, one final, lamentable song just forming on it's lips.

Nicely done chaps! Didn't even give the poor sods chance to defend themselves at the last, as your actions took precedence.

Have 150XP each....So you should be on 250XP in total now I think...

Oh, and as I keep thinking there is still someone else to go...Please do feel free to put a comment in your post if you are the last to post for a round, or drop me an prodding email if I haven't posted quickly enough for you....

Now, a few rounds of R&R....

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

He lives! Lol...

After the goblin falls to Luc's blade, Ninian quickly replaces his cane-sword into the scabbard, now appearing as nothing more dangerous than a regular walking stick. "Great work, man! Too bad about that air-bow, though. Mine seemed to fly wide as well. I think we need to pay a visit to the bowman and make him reset our windage." He gives the corpse a kick, "What do you suppose they're about?"

Male Human Fighter/ 1

Emanual puts his sword away and walks over to stand beside Ninian, holding a hand to his wounds with a grimace of pain hidden behind the shining silver mask. "I have no idea. Just looking to cause some trouble I guess. Looks like they found more than they were looking for huh?" he says with a laugh and friendly nudge to Ninian. Looking around at the others he says "Impressive display my friends. It was an honor to fight along side those of your abilities. What say you to a dinner to celebrate our victory? I've got a dish in mind that I'm sure you will all love and it would be my pleasure to prepare it for you. It would save you some coin at least."

150 from this encounter would put us at 350 xp I believe.

"That sounds great, but first I'd like to figure out what the hell is going on here."

Emanual Stokes wrote:

Ditto.

"Indeed. A very memorable experience. A pity that it had to come now, but still, I am happy that we were able to provide the fireworks instead of the goblins." Wits pulls several vials from his pockets, mixes them and drinks one down. [Using Cure Light Wounds infusion] Heals 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 damage.

"Is anyone else in need of a restorative? They taste like bile, but they do cleanse the palate and alleviate minor gashes, contusions and the like."

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

Luc speaks to Ninian. "Bah, that crossbow was nothing but trouble, mon ami. I will stick to daggers from now on. By the way, thanks for distracting the goblin, it allowed to put my rapier through his ribs. As for the goblins, perhaps they were terrorists, meant to scare and distract the crowd for some nefarious purpose. I would agree that investigation would be recommended."

"Ah, a cook, that would be great, but we should make sure there are no other little buggers running around. Perhaps, find the sheriff."

"Well, gnome, I am injured, so if you could spare a vial. It will just be like downing a vintage wine, n'est-ce pas?" Luc grips his wound.

Male Human Fighter/ 1

"I could use a little mending. One of the little critters managed to put a nasty gash in me. If you can spare one, of course."
To everyone else, So it is settled then? We see what we can find out about these goblins and then feast together. Sounds like a plan to me." If Wits can spare another vial, Emanual takes it thankfully and drinks it.

Male Human Ranger 2

"All those little bastards care about is raisin' as much hell as possible," Reynard chimes in as he walks up to the others. "Good work. Unfortunately where there's 5 goblins, there's usually 20 more."

"Very well. Take this and try not to taste it!" Healing 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

To whom did you give it to, Wits? Luc or Emanual?

I'll let you two figure that out. Who's hurt worse? I've only got the one healing potion.

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

I'm missing 4 hps and you, Emanual?

Male Human Fighter/ 1

I'm at 7 out of 12. You can have it Luc. Thanks anyway Wits.

With the action died down, Ninian decides to try and see if any goblins are alive enough to save for questioning.

Heal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

You appear to have been leaving the goblins unconscious, since you haven't been following around coup de grais -ing them, and as such, the warchanter, or one of the others could no doubt be rendered conscious if you wanted.

There are still distant sounds of fighting, and screeches of glee, lending credence to Raynard's remarks. The sun is just about set now, and drizzle has set in, mingling with the smoke from rising fires to give a very dark night. No one has thought to risk lighting the gas lanterns along the streets, and most houses remain dark.

Male Human Ranger 2

Reynard goes around coup-de-gracing goblins.

WHAT!...it's called favored enemy for a reason. ;)

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

Luc thanks the gnome and Emanual and swigs down the vial. "You hear that, more goblins left to kill!", as he draws his rapier again.

Male Human Fighter/ 1

"This is the best parade I've ever been to. The fun never ends." Looking again to everyone, he takes his sword back in hand; Shall we? , and turns to head in the direction of the closest screams.

Ninian shakes his head as his new companions relish in the excitement of the battle. I hope we keep one alive to find out what's going on. Maybe some major villain will rear its ugly head. He draws his crossbow once again to take up chase alongside the rest.

Before I move on, was that intended to kill all the goblins, or would you like to take some time for interrogation?

I'll interrogate after we get them all.

Male Human Ranger 2

Only good goblin is a dead goblin!

Reynard Varvanyuk wrote:

"and the only thing better than a dead goblin, is a dying goblin who tells you where to find his mates?" with apologies to games workshop, and the paraphrasing of an orc, if I remember right....

As Reynard dispatches the final goblin, (the one rolling around on the floor in flames was left to suffer longest) a high pitched, and strangely effeminate screem is heard from an ally way just down the street, followed by calls of "help! help!"...

Oh, init please while we are at it...

Male Human Ranger 2

Init1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Male Human Gunslinger (Pistolero) 1/Rogue 1

Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

You're all posting init's but no actions now.... The init's won't be useful unless you actually get to the combat... I just assumed you would run off in that direction.... :D

Wits will run in the direction of the screams.

Male Human Fighter/ 1

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Emanual runs towards the cry for help.

Ninian does too at full base speed.

Male Human Ranger 2

Ditto

You run down the street, turning into the alleyway.

You see a very well dressed man, cowering near some crates at the end of the passage, where it takes a sharp left turn.

Between you and him, there is the biggest goblin you've yet seen, riding some thing. The goblin is well dresses, for a goblin, obviously it's stolen the better cloathes and things from other tribe members. It even has a battered pocket watch on a chain. In it's hand is a much larger version of a dog slicer, which allows it to attack from the back of the thing it's riding.

The thing itself is like a distorted, furless dog, large enough for the goblin to ride, but smaller than a pony. It snarls at the man in front.

Init:
Goblin 23
Ninian 16
Raynard 11
Witz 10
Luc 8
Eman 7

You get to act in the suprise round, the goblin doesn't...

The Dean careens around the corner and upon seeing the big goblin and its weird dog, slides to a halt, boots grinding against the cobblestones. At fifteen feat away, he takes aim at the goblin.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

"AAaaargh! Sonovab&#*!!" He flings the crossbow at the goblin, clearly upset now.

Could I have an attack roll for that throw? -4 for an improvised weapon isn't it? :p

Sir Herbert Atkins wrote:

Attack: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (9) - 6 = 3

I figure improvised and another -5 for it being the second attack in the round, + his Dex and PB bonus.
