Glaive Amadeus |
Amadeus moves them away from any prying ears.
I know this is probably hard to admit, but... you know why the pallones attacked, don't you?
I know that this isn't the most tactful of ways, but I'm not sure if anything less blunt would sound sincere coming from me, I'm not Balon.

"NO! LEAVE ME ALONE! I have no idea..." Maedi breaks down and begins to sob loudly.
The older man who you had noticed directing the disposal of the Pallones earlier comes running up. "What did you say to my daughter?!?"
Aubster |
Diplomacy just doesn't seem to be your strong suit ;)
"Listen to me young man, I appreciate your help in fighting those monsters that were attacking us but we don't need an outsider trying to interfere in our business. We've paid you and even told you about our shrine. Can't you just go now and leave us alone?"
Balon Marr |
As Amadeus tries to regain lost ground with the old man, Balon sees an opportunity to step in. Smiling warmly, he takes Maedi aside and begins describing her children's health, how strong they looked and how brave they were to be doing what is necessary. For the good of the tribe.
Balon takes her chin in his hand and says, "Sister Maedi, listen to me, for I have been purified in your shrine and transformed by its transcendence. See, using its gifts," - Balon touches her forehead with two fingers and establishes telepathic contact. I speak within your mind. My soul is of the soul of the tribe, Maedi. I am motivated only by concern for your poor daughter. Tell me everything you know of her, for her sake.

"Balon, thank you for your kind words. I fear that everything that has happened is Seria's fault. A few days before all of these attacks started she began to have horrible headaches. She was afraid that she was losing control of her gift. Then we had the attacks...she blames herself. There's a healer in the Basin that may be able to help. That's why we sent her there with Patel."
Glaive Amadeus |
Amadeus sees what Balon is doing and decides to try to help keep the old man distracted while Balon puts the charm on Maedi. He leans in and speaks in barely above a whisper, while still sounding irritated.
I wouldn't think that you're in much of a position to be turning away help. Your grandchildren have ridden off to the Basin, who knows if they made it or were scooped up by unscrupulous birds or a wild animal or fell victim to some crazy numenera on the walk. One's a beale of all things, which makes them rather unlikely to find any sympathetic ears, and they're both wounded. I want to do what's in the best interest of those children, same as you, and you're arguing.

"Please don't hurt them. She may be a Beale but she's not the cause of this, something under the ground is disrupting the natural order of the creatures in the area. I feel its pull from the west."
Aubster |
Balon nods surreptitiously at Amadeus and leads Maedi aside. What "gifts" are those? And what of this healer? his soft voice fills her mind again.
Maedi explains that Seria is a Beale which gives powers over animals and runs in families. She doesn't know the name of the healer in the basin, just that she is known as a brain doctor.
Aubster |
Amadeus gets a puzzled look on his face at the mention of the disruption.
I know we haven't known each other very long, but I'm definitely not the sort to harm children. About this disruption, do you know what it is? How can you sense it?
I have abilities that are similar to my granddaughter's...maybe not as strong but more refined I think. I've lived in this village almost 100 years young man and I have never felt anything like this, I guess you'd call it a pulse of disruption. I can't really say anymore than I already did about where it's coming from. Look underground and look to the west.
Nano Callidus |
"Now we're getting somewhere ... something concrete that we can act on.", Thinks Callidus. He's been getting nervous, having not put enough distance between him and his immediate past.
"Let's kick up some drit and head West!"
Aubster |
"Good. Enough talking.", Nasir says, relieved.
Are there any landmarks west of here?
Intellect: 1d20
The Black Riage (the largest known mountain range in the 9th world) towers to the west. Tremble Pass cuts through the mountains leading to the Steadfast. Small villages dot the mountains.
Balon Marr |
Balon thanks Maedi for her information and promises to try and keep her children safe if he is able.
He needs nothing more from these simple folk. Mentally, he communicates what he has learned with Callidus, and he speaks aloud to tell the others of the healer and the beale when they leave the village.

You all backtrack the way you came through the False Woods. The Scutimorphs you pass are all happily wrapped round their 'tree.' All in all, it is a peaceful scene. However, just as you step out of the woods the peaceful mood is shattered.
I'll go ahead and roll for Amadeus. Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Amadeus shouts out a warning as he catches sight of the flight of an arrow. Unfortunately, Nasir is unable to take advantage of it as an arrow buries itself in his left calf. 4 M damage. Amadeus knows that the arrow was shot from the Wood but did not get a look at who fired it.
You all hear a voice shout out, "That's just the first Nasir. You're going to look like a pin-cushion soon!" Nasir recognizes the voice as belonging to his enemy Elochaid.
Nasir of the Kiln |
Is that including my armor?
Nasir hisses through clenched teeth and rolls into cover, trying to get hidden.
Stealth roll, with effort (2 speed pool points): 1d20 ⇒ 11
"The blow-hard's here. Keep an eye out for his lackey.", he grunts to his companions.

You're right. It should be 3 points of damage.
You all hear a taunting voice call out "Come and get me Nasir...bring your friends too.
Nasir of the Kiln |
"I'm sick of him and his pointless grudge. And his stupid face. If you'll help me deal with him, advance toward where the arrows came from- glaives in front, watch for traps. I will accompany you as best I can from the shadows. We deal with him, you can have his shins or cyphers or whatever you deem fair for your help.", Nasir hisses from his position, pulling the arrow from his leg.

While Amadeus and Nasir stop walking and are obvious targets...nothing happens ;)
I did want to let everyone know about an optional rule, I'm adopting from the rule book. From now on, all PC's have equal initiative in a battle and go before any monster's go. You can assume that all of you act basically simultaneously. You are allowed to hold your action until after the bad guys go if you want to.

I assumed we were still in cover- but if we're standing around and you want to give me back those speed pool points I spent on stealth, that's fine by me.
