Elise of the Red Hill |
Heads up - I'll be on mini-vacation until the 26th and I'm unsure how much internet access I'll have. But I should be able to update in the evenings : )
I'll come back and double check the in game contest and poke a little bit once I'm done packing stuff
GM_Radiance |
Hrm okay posting has slowed again. Seems to keep happening when I saw you can do lots of things. I think people are paralyzed by choice?
Would people prefer I pull the plot along so you may react to things along then thread and move to different parts of the plot depending on how you react? Posting picks up when we are in dungeons and the like it seems. So I can go to the arena have some fights, then do the different siphon regions with the encounters you'd see in between?
Dreyyn |
i do get sorta paralyzed by choice especially with respect to what other players might want to do and not wanting to step on toes
Elise of the Red Hill |
Sorry, I must admit my travels are taking a bit more energy then I planned. At worst, I'll be back to normal schedule on Friday : )
Nethan Ryon Akerman |
I apologize as well, I have been busy at work lately along with the holiday season and I was hoping to catch up this week sooner than later.
Nethan Ryon Akerman |
GM Radiance, since you are going to move things along.
Should I have Nethan just stay up in the Inn Room memorizing and copying from the Book of Harms? I understand the ritual will not be copied over without more effort and if possible.
Or have him join in the Festival? If there are prizes, he would probably join.
Dreyyn |
i'll go if others are going.
Nethan Ryon Akerman |
Yep Al, let's get into the arena, our friends will probably need our help?
Thank you GM Radiance. I am back from Thanksgiving travel to visit family.
What were the rules of the arena? Roman Arena Rules?
Nethan Ryon Akerman |
I think Nethan is in a good location for now on the map.
Elise of the Red Hill |
I saw this feat and thought - hey awesome!
Then I realized that blood frenzy =/ blood rage and was a bit sad :P
Prerequisite(s): Blood frenzy ability, sahuagin.
Benefit(s): You no longer take a penalty to AC while in a blood frenzy. In addition, if you strike an enemy with both of your claw attacks—or two or more claw attacks if you have extra limbs—while in a blood frenzy, you can rend (as the special attack), dealing an amount of additional damage equal to your claw damage plus 1-1/2 times your Strength bonus (minimum 0).
(It is basically rend on claw attacks and no AC penalty during 'rage', but only if you are a fish and fishrage :P)
GM_Radiance |
For the two that got knocked out since you can't post at the minute, has the battle shown enough points that you could feasibly have changed tactics to push a different strategy? Do you think the enemies are too hard? Too straight forward?
Since you are out for the count now the spell being used was basically: protection from energy communal. The spell is a slight alteration using a book called spheres of power where the caster was only using one type of element, that being water so was a higher caster level but at the cost of only being able to cast water-esque spells.
Dreyyn |
not sure what you mean in your questioning, hopefully my answer is something like you are looking for.
too hard, not sure. I don't know what their relative power is to us. Dreyyn's AC is only 21, which is why it is no surprise that he was hit once he got up in their face. They definitely did a lot of damage, more than i was expecting. I also hit them more often than i thought, but my damage is low. maybe they were statted out a little too much for damage and not enough for AC? it is hard to tell. if they are off the mark, they don't readily appear grossly so.
Tactics-wise, I would have done the same thing again, Dreyyn is a bit of a one-trick pony.
Enemy tactics-wise, it makes sense and i would expect nothing less from a team that was expecting to be in a gladiatorial fight. if some random group of mercenaries were pulling tight tactics like this, it would stretch my suspension of disbelief.
GM_Radiance |
Yea that's the kind of thing I was asking for. ^^
The archers AC is somewhat variable depending on who is alive and what stance they are in and if they are being attacked by ranged or melee. They weren't completely focused on it but neither was their damage.
They have +1 longbows with deadly aim for +5 damage, then the typical multi-shot, rapid shot combo and being level 6. They have defensive maneuvers as has just been seen but they didn't get much of opportunity until now without being run down. Of course the remaining one was unaware of blade lash from Elise so didn't try to space himself out even more.
One of them was tougher than the other as they were different classes.

I think it's just that archers hurt in general :P
Also - a nice thing about the bloodrager opposed to barbarians - is that you have all these little nice things like Blade Lash : )
(On the other hand barbarians got all their fancy rage powers but they tend to mostly be melee anyhow!)
Edit: Oooh and next post will be nr 777. That is at least somewhat amusing!
I wonder whom it will be :P?
GM_Radiance |
The shields didn't stop the thing completely, however passing the save does half damage. If someone has normal evasion if they pass, it does no damage. Improved evasion just means if they fail they still only take half damage. One of the archers had improved, one had normal. So on the first round when they passed they didn't take anything despite the shield not being up yet.
@Elise: Guess it will be me! Muahaha.
Yea archers hurt mostly because it's easy for them to get their full attacks. That can be seen by the mobile turret that is Amelia, throwing out a steady stream of 14 damage hits. Though if she takes Twin throw it'll be the same trick as multishot. Sadly that has a pre-req of two-weapon fighting but it's still not terrible.
Elise of the Red Hill |
Well, Amelia could take and use Two-Weapon Fighting if she wanted since it does work with thrown weapons. You know, for even more attacks :P
@Tactics - Their tactics felt a bit like a phalanx or similar formation might operate. Like Dreyyn said, perfectly fine for competent opponents. (Personally I think I'd be perfectly fine for random mercs to use too since they are really just professional soldiers.)
Being a melee character I felt that their magician didn't do much to impede our melee aggression. If they had another magician throwing out stuff like Entangle or Create Pit or such things may have been way harder.
Dreyyn |
well i mean maybe a professional mercenary outfit like House Tharashk. but someone who hires a handful of mercs from a bar, not so much.
Nethan Ryon Akerman |
Aww, don't pick on the wizard too much, it's not every day you get hit by two consecutive fireballs.
Elise of the Red Hill |
No, I just pointed out that their magican screwed mostly with our magicans and didn't have time left over to screw with us melee characters.
Which is sort of nice^^
But if their magican *had* time to screw with us melee characters (or simply a secondary magican) things might have gone really different : )
Nethan Ryon Akerman |
Well surely, none of the opponents expected the magicians charging into battle either ... lol.
Elise of the Red Hill |
Your wish is my command!
edit: There. I think I got it approximatively right :P
edit2: And initiative rolled too. I did manage to expend all my really sucky rolls on the eldred, so there is that ^^
Also - Happy new year : )
Nethan Ryon Akerman |
Sorry all, lots of activity for the holidays, I'll try to post tonight or tomorrow at the latest.
Elise of the Red Hill |
If possible, targeting one of the swordseldred : )
Let's see how red magic works against someone knowledgeable of red magic, maybe Elise can get a practical lesson or two :P
Elise of the Red Hill |
@Red Magic - Given that we know that they have at least 1 red mage - and Elise knows some red magic - I'd say it would be safe to assume Elise has gone over what she can manage so that we may try and interpolate some of our enemies capabilities.
Elise can
1) Make a leafy shield that mostly injures enemies around her
2) Tie up/knock down (don't recall which at the moment :P) people with roots
So it is basically nature/growth magic. So I say we may perhaps expect some tree-shenanigans or perhaps entangle or something : )
GM_Radiance |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
So I hope I got all this for the summary:
Nethan Ryon Akerman |
Sorry all, been under the weather, will be getting on the ball soon.
Nethan Ryon Akerman |
I'll post tonight. Tomorrow at the latest. I was in training and it ends today.
Dreyyn |
dreyyn will head that way if amelia is in melee, trying to flank with her. 60ft move, acrobatics to avoid AoOs. i didnt see her next to enemies on the map or i would have moved myself.
