Tess slowly makes her way into the park, A sort of nostalgic look on her face as she drifts past the crowds. She had only met the Vanderborens briefly, yet it was a rather profound moment in her life, and she felt obliged to attend this gathering. "It seems they touched a great deal of lives." she thought to herself as she leaned back against a nearby wall. She smiles a bit to herself, watching the crowd calmly.

I for one am thoroughly enjoying the Kingmaker campaign.

Shadow Lodge

Finn answers the older man with, "None of my concern? Would that have ever stopped the Vanderborens?"

Basil notes the Elven woman wearing the symbol of Shelyn and bows slightly to her.."A surprisingly large gathering don't you think Lady...it would appear the Vanderborens have touched many lives."

Sir Basil de Fermer wrote:

Dargon jumps in as if answering for Tess. "Aye, they were always up for a good adventure. Suppose that’s what connected them wit most o’ da folks here today."

Painlord -- TBD, human cleric

Sunshadow21 -- Elfric Waterborn, halfling witch
Lost gamer -- Professor Willert Gavish human, Oracle (Seer)
Wellard -- Sir Basil de Fermer, human paladin
InVinoVeritas -- Finnwappet Luggnagg, Gnome Alchemist
Patrik Strom -- Silvio Callgari Pazzi, human fighter/rogue/bard?
Alexander Kilcoyne -- Norvic Oakhide, dwarf barbarian
Shanosuke -- Gan Laccaran, human ranger
Feral -- Zstelian Karela, human ranger (falconer)
Limeylongears -- Sekathral, elven rogue
PoorWanderingOne -- Lal, half-elven Aquatic bloodline sorcerer.
illuminar -- Dargon Dolgrinson, dwarven monk
dathom -- Jasren Holdrath, human wizard
Joshua Hirtz -- Zarzel'ton "Rendrick" Goldwatch, gnome summoner
A CR20 Seagull -- Tessarda Variel, ?
Again, I think that's everyone, but holler if I missed you.

CR20, I think it's cutting off your post. Considering Basil is noting your symbol of Shelyn, it may be just for me, but all I'm seeing is your rolls and then "Alright! Character inc". Can you/someone repost it if there's more there?

Basil, OK. I'll take a look at your other posts, especially the ones with Basil. I certainly understand not liking recruitment RPs. I also think they're a pain in the butt, to be honest, and I'm aware it's very frustrating to put time in and then not get selected, but I also find it the best way to see how people write. If I have other posts I can look at, I'm willing to do that. Others can feel free to point me in that direction (I know there are a couple of folks here from Tark's CoT game and obviously from my KM game).

Thanks, Sunshadow. I was mostly (trying to) joking about the conversion making the path a little tougher, and thus more dangerous for Edrukk and Co.

Role-play
"Perhaps not, gnome, but look where the Vanderborens are now," the older Maravanchi shoots back.

It's actually pretty good where it is right now. Dangerous enough to keep things interesting, but not so much as to be simply irritating.

Elfric can't help but mutter to himself when he hears that last comment, "Yes, having their memory being honored by dozens. Most of us here will be lucky if we get a tenth of the number gathered here to mourn for us."

sunshadow21 wrote:

"Good gno..." Dargon starts to say to Elfric before realizing the man was actually speaking to a halfling not a gnome. "Oh... you're durn right. And those Vanderborens deserve the respect of everyone here too." After pausing a moment to take a sip from his mug Dargon continues, "Did you folk know them well?"

"Only by reputation, which apparently was larger than I thought." Elfric replies.

Painlord is the first accepted applicant. We've had a couple aborted games together, and I know I was enjoying gaming with him, so this will give us another chance.

I am honored to be selected and will strive to be great in this AP. If you all don't mind, Briar (still a working name, TBD) will continue to hang around the celebration both to help develop and round out my character, but also to give others who want extra RP between Motte's posts a chance to build their characters as well.

Briar accepts the note from the halfling with a smile, trying to maintain a polite demeanor.

After reading the pocketing the note, Briar will move slowly towards the disturbance, letting others get there first.

sunshadow21 wrote:

"Did a good job o' making a name for 'emselves fer sure," Dargon answers with a slight slur, finished by another sip from his mug.

Anyone paying attention to Dargon's speech would notice that the drink he's been using to cope is slowly catching up to him. Moving him from graceful and proper speech to a more dwarven style of vernacular.

Yep >> Looks like half of Tess's post is gone, And I can't for the life of me remember what it was...Ah well. Shall I just wing it?

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Cr20, sure, that's fine. I certainly understand such things happen. Looks like she's an elven inquisitor of Shelyn? When you get a chance, if you can give me some basic background/personality/etc ideas, I'd appreciate it. I'll understand if they're not typed up all fancy-like. : )

And, Pain, obviously that's fine to remain at the wake and continue role-playing.

Yep, Elf Inquisitor of Shelyn, I'll get started on a description and basic background. If its alright can we just say she makes a bit of small-talk with some of the people there? I don't want to hold up any RP while I get her description done.

Lantern Lodge

Dotting interest. Will post later today.

Ok...The description will be delayed a bit, Got the whole thing done, click save annnnd....poof, gone -.-

Tess smiles to Basil, bowing in return "Indeed, It seems I wasn't the only one that was saved by them" She then looks to Dargon, nodding softly "It seems so, It's a shame I wasn't able to know them better"

(( Sorry for the short post >> A bit disheartened since the forums ate my amazing description lol ))

Dargon hears Tess say, "It seems so, I would like to know ya better."

"Sorry lass, 'prechiate da offer but me tinks I might break ya," Dargon responds.

Tougher? More dangerous? As a coward i immediatly dislike it and fear for the well being of Treshiell

Meanwhile, at the wake...

"Now that was disappointing. Silvio was looking forward do some excitement to pick up this rather dull affair", Silvio states to everyone and no one. Then he turns to Finn beside him. "You seem to be well acquainted with these festivities. Tell me, little man, what are we celebrating?"

Dargon, perhaps in trying to cope with losing the Vanderborens eventually lets the drink take him over. He passes out, falling to the ground in the middle of the park.

My wife’s having our baby tonight/tomorrow so I maybe out of commission for a few days. Please don’t take that as a loss of interest.

The Exchange

Briar will walk over to Dargon, fearing some trauma to the dwarf and check on him.

['dice]Perfunctory Heal check['/dice]

"Drunk? He's drunk." Briar looks up as if he's astounded that people get drunk at open public events.

It's so unsafe.

Briar will try to move the dwarf out of the sun.

"Urhmph! Har-oomph!" The dwarf barely moves.

Failing to move Dargon, Briar will look to another helpful soul to aid him.

"Uhm, help? Help? This one seems to have misunderestimated the quality of the drink. Anyone want to help me move him?"

Liberty's Edge

Zstelian raises an eyebrow in disbelief at the young scribe's troubles.

"I'll give you a hand there son", the Varisian offers.

Bending down and bracing, he takes a moment to examine the task/dwarf before him.

"This may take more than two of us", he says with a wrinkled frown.

"Drunken dwarves - who'd have thought it?" mutters Sekathral to himself. "What we need is a block and tackle" Despite not being generally keen on getting involved in other people's troubles, he moves over and offers to assist. After all, he might be able to squeeze a copper or two out of the priests for helping clear up the situation. "Want a hand there, mate?" he calls.

"Ooh... is that a threat?" Finn responded to the Maravanchi, with a salacious chuckle. "It sounds like... you might like them dead. It gives you the result you're looking for. But don't mind me, carry on beating your son for seeking a mate, I'm sure it's just what he needs to live a long, prosperous life and give you many heirs."

Turning away from the Maravanchi, he nods to Elfric, raises his glass, and replies to Silvio, "It is the funeral of the great adventurers Verik and Larissa Vanderboren. We are all greatly saddened by their loss."

Limeylongears wrote:

Briar looks up at the speakers.

An elf. A helpful one at that. And a unkempt Varisian.

"Yeah sure, please! Trying to move this one out of the sun. Just want to drag him over there. Poor guy was probably completely unaware that alcohol can get you drunk."

Briar grabs an arm and begins to drag towards the shade.

Liberty's Edge

Zsetian sizes up the dwarf and the three of his would be rescuers.

"We should be able to move him with the three of us", he says with less than his full confidence.

"It is very kind of the two of you to care enough to help this man", Zsetian says as he grabs one of the dwarf's arms and begins pulling with grunt. "You'd be surprised how many people in this world, would see someone in need like this and not give a damn".

Sekathral picks up the dwarf's legs and attempts to lift him off the ground. "Gaaah!!" he groans. "What in the nine hells makes these stumpy b****** so heavy? Maybe if we all lift together at the same time we can shift him. Count of three?"

Tess looks at the Dwarf with a great deal of confusion, First the incoherent reply and now passing out? She sighs softly and moves to assist the others in moving him, not being particularly strong herself, but hopefully being able to help.

The Exchange

Briar drags the dwarf to the shade.

"Almost there.....THERE!" Briar looks surprised that he had adequately helped in this endeavor.

Ha! Take that supervisor! I *did* something! I wonder if I can go back now?

Briar smiles at the collected mourners as he bends down to place Dargon's head in a more restful position and getting his beard out of the way of any alcohol that may be on its way back up.

"Thank you for your help. I am Briar." Briar extends his human hand to any who would return the greeting.

Liberty's Edge

Zsetian stretches, arching his back after the effort.

"Zsetian", the Varisian says offering a calloused hand to Briar and then the others.

"How did all of you come to know Verik and Larissa?"

FYI, I'll probably make my picks tomorrow morning, a bit earlier than I'd anticipated. I'm eager to get this bad boy started, but I also think I've got enough good choices to fill out a party and don't want to make people role-play for a week only to not get chosen. If anyone's still brainstorming, get those characters in tonight.

The Exchange

Feral wrote:

Briar accepts Zsetian's hand and shakes it before unconsciously wiping the hand on his own scale armor.

"I don't, really. My superior at the Church," Briar points to the symbol of Sarenrae around his neck, "told me to go meet them and *do* something. It's quite the shock to have them dead. I don't think I can go back yet. I need to do something first."

Remember that time I copied the entire prayer guide to the Sun? That was a good month!

Briar fades into his happier thoughts for a moment before returning to the present.

"And you?"

With all these posts, people aren't quite noticing me. Feral Gan had tried to converse with you but I guess you missed it. :(

A little disappointed that Zseltian ignorrd him Gan shrugs. Seeing the newcomer Briar he smiles. "Hi there, I am Gan Laccaran. You are Briar and you are Zseltian. Nice to meet you both. The little guy on my shoulder here is Gibbs McGuinness my good and faithful friend." The monkey on Gan's shoulder waves. " I know the couple as I had the opportunity to save them at one point. Nice folks. A bit reckless it seems. Very unfortunate, they had a lot going for them. So gentlemen. What is your area expertise?"

Elfric stands aside as they move the dwarf, knowing full well he would not be a help in that exercise, shaking his head at the concept of someone getting drunk to the point of unconsciousness at a wake, and a public one at that.

I introduce Zarzel'ton "Rendrick" Goldwatch for your viewing. Please excuse the profile, its under construction as I finish ironing out details.

Rendrick, a rather handsome aasimar, would enter the park dressed his best in a freshly tailored black courtier's outfit with some minor bits of jewelry so as not to draw attention away from the event. Quietly he would make his way to the halfling woman's side before speaking softly.

"I'm sorry for your loss dear Kora. This is a sad day, but none better to see such grand souls off to better things. How does the young Vanderboren hold up?"

Despite his large size of 7', Rendrick's voice would come out softly and filled with compassion. It hurt him to see his employers go. They were grand and generous people who were always willing to share the adventures they had with those willing to lend their ear.

I hope you do not mind my use of her name. I figured he would have known her from doing business with the Vanderboren family.

For Motteditor's eyes only:
I wanted to ask if Rendrick could have possibly been part of the crafting of the Vanderboren's signet rings, that is he assisted his master in their construction.

Also, I was wanting to ask you about the traits I'm wishing to take.

First, I was wanting to take a trait called "Rough and Ready" from the "Adventurer's Armory" that allows him to use the tools of his trades as a weapon with a +1 trait bonus to attack. I thought this could make for some amusing situations and would help him stay armed when he might appear to not be.

Second, I was wondering if you would allow me to take "Rich Parents" and "On the Payroll", through the use of the Additional Traits feat, representing his earnings from both the Vanderboren's and other clients. I will state now that I plan to spend the majority on clothing, tool kits, and the like to accent his skills.

Liberty's Edge

Oh, my apologies. I definitely missed it.

Zsetian nods and offers Gan a handshake as well.

Gan wrote:

"I'm a hunter and tracker by trade. I'm also a practiced falconer", with that Zsetian presses his lips together and whistles a pair of melodic notes.

From high overhead a large hawk replies with a piecing raptor cry.

Zarzel'ton:

I would probably need to take another look at part one before I can give you a definitive answer on the rings. I'm guessing you remember they factor in a little bit in the first adventure, so just want to make sure it wouldn't cause a problem for you to be involved in their crafting. I've been working my way through the whole Path again over the last week, but I don't think it would be a problem, just want to check.

Those traits would probably work fine, if you want to use the additional traits feat.

Motteditor:
They have a bit to deal with the bank from what I remember, beyond that, not much that I remember.

I enjoy the idea of him having a bit of gold to buy all those mundane things a businessman needs. To begin with I see him as a skill oriented character. In the future I see him maybe being magic item oriented or melee oriented as he runs into bigger creatures and his complex rages within.

Just want to make sure I've got everyone down so far, though I'll keep checking through until I make the actual choices. (Which now might be a little later Wednesday. Some [expletive deleted] did a little hit-and-run on my car Sunday and I have to have it into the shop tomorrow morning before I usually wake up most days. CR20, can you give me some more idea about your thoughts on Tessarda? I don't need a full writeup, since I realize your previous one got eaten, but just trying to get a little more idea what you think an inquisitor of Shelyn would be about.

Also, mazel tov, Dargon. Hope it's a nice easy birth for your wife and everyone's healthy and happy.

Briar looks with sympathy at the description of Zsetian's loss.

I've never experienced such loss...excepting getting kicked out the monastery.

Briar takes a few steps back as the raptor comes into view.

Should I put my shield on? Is it attacking? Briar ponders reaching to his back to don the heavy wooden shield there.

Briar whistles. "Is that yours? Been with you long? What does it eat?"

Liberty's Edge

"That's Kayle", Zsetian says with a bit of pride. "She's with me, but she's not mine anymore than a brother or sister belongs to you", he explains. "We have been working together for a few years now".

"She fends for herself just fine. She eats meat; rodents, bugs, sometimes other birds", he says with a bit of a laugh.

"Don't act so surprised", the ranger says noting the scribe's anxiousness. "You've never had a pet?"

"Does she talk to you? My pet turtle talks to me, literally. I found it one day on the beach stuck in seaweed, and as I was freeing it said thank you clear as day." Elfric doesn't appear even a bit phased at saying something that most people would find completely crazy.

Liberty's Edge

Zsetian flinches at Elfric's question but quickly regains his composure.

"No, of course not. She doesn't speak but we understand each other just fine".

"A shame. I have spent many a long day having very pleasant conversations with Tad. Though, for some reason, that really creeps a lot of people out as if it's my fault that he doesn't let others in on his side of the conversation, though I've asked him many times why he doesn't; they could learn so much." Elfric continues to be unphased.

The Exchange

Briar looks to Elfric and then to Szetian comparing about talking animals.

Really? They all have talking animal friends?

Briar continues to be phased.

"A pet? No. No animals have ever talked to me. Sometimes I think Sarenrae's angels talk to me..." Briar's voice trails off.

So...I'm going to bow out of this game, Quite a bit of RL shenanigans has come up and I don't think I could do this game justice while juggling the two.

Hearing tidbits of conversations from here and there, Rendrick would turn his head to take in the crowd.

"Quite the turnout," he would say to Kora as he took in the spectacle. "Surely a turnout worthy of those two and as interesting as them as well."

As he took in the sight, for surely it was one, he would note the absence of the young Vanderboren.

Gan nods at Zstians comment. "Very interesting. I myself am an experienced traveler and have learned a lot on how to aid people in various environments. Well I need to talk to lady Kora before I head back to the inn for the day. Take care." Gan heads off to see Kora.

He approaches her and bows deeply. "This was a well put together event. I am sure the Vanderborens would have been pleased with the work you've done. I offer my condolences. I would love to stay but I am a man who love to travel. I will been in the inn just down the road if there is anything you need. Look for Gan Laccaran. Take care." With that Gan leaves.

I wont be able to post here again until tomorrow after noon so I'm just going to wait and see if I get in. I don't believe I made a good impression but my fingers are crossed all the same.

Role-play:
As the wake breaks up, Kora approaches the trio -- Zseltian, Sekathral and Briar -- around the unconscious dwarf. She shakes her head, surprised to see what happened.

"Oh dear," she says. "Poor Master Dolgrinson. I didn't realize he would be so upset. Perhaps a conversation with Mistress Lavinia will help him come to grips with his emotions. And you three, helping him, so kind. I've already asked Master Briar to join Lavinia at the Vanderboren Estate tomorrow evening. If you'd be so kind to come as well -- and perhaps make sure the dwarf knows? -- I would appreciate it."

She extend similar invitations before they leave to Silvio and Finnwappet, urging them to attend so Lavinia can present them with an opportunity that could be well-suited to their skills.

The accepted characters are Briar, Zstelian, Sekathral, Dargon Dolgrinson, Silvio Callgari Pazzi and Finnwappet Luggnagg. Please head to the discussion thread.

Thanks everyone for your patience and applications. I apologize if I didn't select you.

Gan:

Gan, just wanted to clarify that it wasn't that you made a bad impression. More that I think just our styles of play might be slightly different.
