"Off me," Silvio cries as he pulls his blade. "If you tear out his eyes, how will Silvio admire the ladies?!" His blow rips open the creature's guts, likely a fatal wound on a normal monkey, but it continues its savage assault. 9 hp It tries to bite again, but the Chelaxian is able to fend it off.

Kyson pulls his blade and closes with Zstelian, who is mobbed with four of the monkeys. Sekathral and Khazmia do the same, surrounding the Varisian, and laying into the beasts. Sakathral flays one open 14 hp, but like Silvio's victim, it inexplicably seems to keep fighting, as does the one cut by Khazmia. 5 hp

Zstelian, beset, can't seem to get an angle to hit one of his attackers, but Kayle swoops down, deadly talons glistening as she sinks them into one of the monkey's skulls. 7 hp damage

Despite the assaults, three of the monkeys again sink their fangs into Zstelian, tearing at the older man. 4 hp damage, need 3 Fort saves

The equivalent of a called shot, I suppose - rather than cause damage generally, I'm trying to chop off the particular parts of the monkey that are causing damage to Zstelian. I assumed that that would incur a penalty of some sort - would it be better if I made a Sunder attempt, or is it a combat maneouvre of some sort? Not sure at all - if it's a headache, just count it as a normal attack without the penalty

Kyson slashes the most injured monkey attacking Zstelian, drawing a small slash down its back as Kayle and Zstelian continue their own assault. Zstelian's able to finally dispatch one of them, though it seems to snap once more at him even as it dies, before it too suddenly melts into a pile of goo, burning the ranger, though having apparently no effect on the other monkeys. 1 hp acid damage to Zstelian

The skulls bounces at Kyson's feet, where it snaps at him, though its unable to penetrate his heavy boots. As the goo turns to powder Dargon brushes it off of his face before rinsing his eyes out with some water.

"What in Torag's steel are they?" Dargon asks.

Khaz shudders and nudges at one of the puddles of goo with a nearby stick.

"This can't be natural. Look, it's already turning to a nasty green powder." Draping her new scarf delicately over her nose, she moves away, as if afraid of inhaling wafting monkey powder.

"Zstelian, do you have any idea what they are? Does anyone?"

Sekathral shrugs. "Haven't got a clue. You two lads alright?" he asks Dargon and Zstelian, before looking up at the horizon to see if the blaze is still continuing.

Kyson sounds sad, as if he had thought that exploding monkeys would be fun, but no, no they are not.

The blaze is still continuing, lighting the darkening sky a sullen red as you continue to travel south. The wildlife continues to seem crazed as you walk, with the occasional deformed jungle creature lying dead in the path. You can hear things fighting in the brush near you and the air above, though no more attack you.

As you arrive at the cliffs, you finally see the source of the unnatural light: In the sheltered cove below, an inferno rages atop the water. Several ships, including a two-masted caravel, a sizeable frigate, a long barge and what might have once been a schooner are all ablaze.

Farther out, a three-masted caravel -- her sails decorated with stylized figures of a wyvern; its tail raised over its back as though ready to strike its enemies; its figurehead a wyvern crouched with wings unfurled -- seems to have escaped the fire for now.

A shiny slick on the surface of the water itself burns as well, creating a wall of wood and flame. The heat rises in searing sheets, and the roar of the flaming maelstrom mixed with the crashing surf masks any other sounds that might be issuing up from below. Through periodic gaps in the smoke, however, movement on the beach is visible -- something still lives in the inferno 40 feet below.

A rickety wooden walkway descends from the cliffs to the beach below.

"Remember how Vanthus described his love of alchemical bombs? I think he's been here," Kyson says, taking in the devastation.

"We should get down there and see if anyone still lives or needs aid. Innocents might have been aboard those ships."

Kyson looks anxious to go down and help, but then remembers the exploding monkeys and get back to the back of the group.

What was I thinking?

Zstelian stares are Sekathral for a moment.

"I'm not sure exactly what you just said..."

The Varisian looks up and whistles for Kayle.

"Fly a pass around the ship. See if anyone is watching it or us", he tells the raptor.

The walkway definitely looks old, and you can see spots of rot on it, Sekathral. You don't think you'd trust it to hold too much weight. It also looks rickety enough that you'd need to balance carefully coming down, which will likely slow any progress.

The cliff walls have enough handholds that going down them shouldn't be too difficult. Also, considering the ships in the cove, the water in the eastern section should be deep enough that you could dive in from the cliffs above -- though a poor dive (or a belly flop by Kyson) would likely hurt.

Kayle seems to glare at you as she finishes her smokey circumnavigation, but indicates that no one appears to be watching.

As Khaz and Seka go down the cliff, Kyson weighs his ways carefully.

"The cliff is terrifying and the walkway looks unsafe. Ugh."

Kyson bops his head back and forth to the walkway to the cliff using some mental process to decide which way to go.

Eeny meany meenie mo!

"Maybe we should go one at a time, eh? Just one!"

Kyson begins to walk down the walkway VERY slowly, even going as far to crawl if necessary, trying to keep his weight spread out over an area.

Yeah, this was a great idea. Brilliant.

Just want to make sure; you're going one at a time on the walkway? Please let me know the order. I'll also need a Acrobatics (balance) check; -5 if you move at full speed. I'll need a Climb check if you want to scale the cliffs; or a Swim or Acrobatics check if you want to try to dive 40 feet into the water. Let me know when (and how, I suppose) you want Silvio to go as well.

Is there an acrobatics bonus for crawling? 1/2 speed? Kyson is going to take his time. Oh, and in Kyson's mind, Silvio would go first...he's so brave and all.

"oh! I'll go last, shall I?" I wouldn't want him landing in all that armor on my "lady like physique". I'd be smushed like a bug, I would. "I don't want to slow you down any."
