With the creature free from his pinning, Goggh sees no alternative but to attack with his companions. Trying to grapple again probably won't result in much; the giant was formidable.

He tries to punch and bite the creature, using his luck on the bite. He is power attacking now, what's compensating for the Personal Trial use.

Zarrisa again focues her divine power on Goggh bestowing good fortune on him.

Goggh moves in and punches the giant hard with a full out assault. His fist slams into the giant's chest, cracking his sternum, and more ribs. With a wheeze the giant reels and you see the light dim in its eyes. Goggh leans in with a savage bite, tearing a chunk of flesh from the creature, and tearing open a major artery. Blood spurts in a spray over him and the combat field, and the giant collapses, dead before it hits the ground which now darkens with a huge pool of blood.

Vamik pulls back to hurl a bomb but sees it is not needed.

Vamik will offer his last healing potion if any one needs it. He'll hang around to see if a channel is in order, and then he will scout the area stealthing a wide circle around the camp, sniffing the air, and using his excellent night vision to look for signs of more enemies.

Goggh keeps looking at the giant's body while his friends wander around. The ogre is silent, in a sad expression.

It could have been Goggh... - he finally says, still looking at the body. It's impossible for him not to imagine himself on the giant situation, especially after the previous encounter with the "civilized" races.

He closes his eyes and pray for Irori. His hands are still dipping blood, he is still hurt by the giant's weapons, but the worst for him is that his heart is heavy.

Goggh is hurt. - he continues speaking very lowly and sad.

"Hey Goggh, you ok? You sort of got a little crazy there at the end. He was trying to kill us, you didn't have much of a choice. The world is safer with his passing." Quercus decides to give the ogre some space and goes back to sorting the giant's stuff.

Seeing Goggh's sadness, Vamik pipes up, "I suppose we have spent too much time in the peace of our great leader's domain. The world seems much as it was when we were young. I fear many more trials such as this on our quest. All the more reason to focus on our mission. This giant seems to have been busy plundering as these are obviously not its clothes. I did not smell any more of his kind nearby. Maybe he was out foraging. As much as I hate staying here, the area seems safe for now. If the rest of you can get any sleep, the night is not yet over. I was on watch and will continue for a time."

Vamik studies the corpse of the giant by the firelight. He was still too used to the practices of Goodwin to perform any experiments on the creature, but he could feel the urge rising up within him. The mutagen he consumed also had made him feel a bit queasy. It had been a long time since he had needed to use it. He had a strange feeling that he should not have imbibed this particular mutagen. What had he been working on before they left the demi-plane? He could not quite remember.

She comes to the Goggth and places his hand on him, saying nothing as he look at the fallen.

As the other come close she heals them with what she has left.

Goggh can carry what the giant was carrying. - the ogre says, picking up the bag of the giant or whatever he was using to carry the goods - Thanks for your help, Zarrisa. - he completes with a smile, standing up and taking position.

The ogre is clearly shaken by what happened, but the words of his friends Quercus and Vamik seem to guide him into focusing in the mission at hand.

Vamik has a point. We should try to catch more hours to sleep. Feel free to wake up Goggh, however, in any sign of issue. - his voice sounds deeper and lower than the usual, but still kind and friendly.


The group tries to settles down after the adrenaline of the fight. Some rest and remain quiet, the others may sort through the items or discuss quietly. You try to get sleep and rest and recuperate. The morning comes eventually, and the group sits at their breakfast talking of the fight, the corpse of the giant still laying where he fell, the ground stained dark.

Day 9 - morning

The group wakes from their sleep, fitful as it may have been. You feel rested somewhat though and ready to tackle the new day. The fight has honed your tactics somewhat and you prepare your daily spells, saying prayers studying books and practicing.

You take some breakfast and then prepare to move on. You look to the ripening corpse of the two headed giant. Plan to just leave it?

After whatever else you do:

The river behind you, you press on until the wilderness. Somewhere out here is a band of enemies led by a fire giant. The giant you just fought was hard enough, you can't imagine trying to fight one along with a whole gang of other enemies. Grim determination sets in as the group pushes on toward the scouting area.

After a fitful night of restlessness, Vamik wakes with a start as the pain in his side is nearly unbearable. He was trying to downplay the pain over the last few days, and he was able to conceal the growing lump on his side fairly well. But now the bulge under his right side has grown three-fold. He feels something moving under his skin...something that wants to get out.

He rolls over and lets out a scream as a thin pink bloody arm rips out from the fur and flexes itself in the cool morning sun. "Ahh! Cut it off! Help!" He gets up and races around the campsite in a panic as he frantically scratches at the limb. After a few laps, he passes out from the pain and lays face down in the dirt.

Goggh woke up, still a little shaky. He was noisy and big, as expected, and rapidly diverted his attention, confused, looking at Vamik without much comprehension of what was happening.

When the ratfolk passed out, he was already approaching. He pull his friend almost effortless, given the light load, and looked at the third arm with curiosity. Finally, he gently shook his friend.

Vamik? Vamik? Goggh helps! What happened? - he asked.

Lady Zarrisa Ollron wakes she was at last getting user to sleeping out of the water then Vam's calling out wakes her. She went over to him slowly, moving with out her out form was hard.

After Vamik calms himself he begins muttering to himself, "I should have known not to drink a mutagen that expired ten thousand years ago." He looks over his arm and stretches it, quietly considering what this will mean for him. "Well, I guess it's not all bad. I was working on body enhancements back home, so I suppose it was sort of successful. Sorry guys. Didn't mean to freak you out. I guess if I'll just have to compensate with my natural good looks." Before long Vamik is back to his normal cheerful self, and begins studying his spells for the day. "Eureka! I have figured out the spells I've been working on. Maybe I've also grown a new brain as well. I have discovered a way to convert blood into expensive spell components.(blood money) I know it's a bit gross, but I was worried that we might not be able to find everything we need in this new world. I also finally finished learning how to make it look like I'm not moving (illusion of calm). That just might come in handy for throwing bombs, and casting spells."

"So what should we do with this dead giant? Leave him for the buzzards, or give him a proper burial?"

"I'm afraid this river does not provide enough water for that to work. He would just wash up on shore and rot. Us land creatures usually bury them in the earth and let the tiny creatures in the dirt feed. Or we burn the bodies. I imagine giants would prefer to be laid in the earth rather than drowned or burned though. But I'm no expert."

Vamik takes a moment to study the creature. It's two heads serve as an ironic reminder what what has just happened to him. Did they each have separate thoughts? Like brothers? Or were they one mind working in unison. Was this new arm just the beginning of another Vamik? Would he end up just like this giant, dead on the bank of a river somewhere?

Goggh prays. Prays for Irori, to take his soul, and guide it through a lawful path to righteousness.

The ogre approaches the body.

The impure body could be burn, but the smoke will catch bad attention. - he shakes the head - And the water wouldn't suffice for this big guy - how deep is the body of water? Would it cover him if we throw its body with rocks?

Seeing as giants and the likely might be interested by northern european culture, who knows? Maybe they even like to be burnt in a pyre in a boat :) As far as this paladin's religious believes (Irori) goes, however, a dirty soul won't be cleansed by being laid in earth.

"Let's see. Vamik tentatively reaches into his pack to pull out a morsel of food. "It seems a bit shaky but I suspect I'll get used to it. The arm's a bit skinnier than my other one, and it doesn't have any hair yet. And the claw's on it are a bit short and weak looking. I don't know if I can use it for fighting yet. But it seems to be able to hold things alright. As for the giant, it shouldn't take us too long to pile up some rocks and dirt over him. It's better than nothing I suppose."

Vamik finishes preparing his spells and extracts, and then help gather rocks to bury the giant (if that's what everyone agrees to do). Unless otherwise noted I will prepare my "standard" spells from the list in my profile


Day 9 - Morning

The group spends some time, piling dirt and stones onto the dead giant (ettin), and building a cairn of the corpse. It takes a few hours of toil, but is really just a matter of time. When complete the group feels ready to move on. After a brief snack and stretching their legs and back they head further to the northeast, keeping mostly east as they intend to make their way toward the valley from that direction.

The group travels the entire day and grows closer to the mountains, easily seen in the distance. The wind picks up and the alpine air sweeps down and cools you. Near the end of the day you reach the foothills of those mountains skirting almost due east now, and starting to plan for the evening camp. Only less than a day ago the ettin attacked. You hope tonight goes uneventfully. The group laments the loss of Snow and Aurora to scout, but tries to find a safe spot. Standing on a tall hill, the huge Goggh scries the horizon. Hello, whats this? The toppled ruins of a tower, tumbled down a ridge is visible in the distance. Such places are known to be lairs of various denizens, but it could also be a defensible place for the night, and could contain who knows what of interest.

Goggh sees a ruined tower in the horizon. - he points, turning to the others - ... Maybe it could be a place to rest for the night? Certainly better than sleeping outside.

He sits down in the grass, near the others.

But maybe someone had the same idea already. Is any of us here stealthy enough to get closeby and check if anyone is using it already? - he completes, making obvious his size would warn enemies of their presence from quite the distance.

"I feel like that comment was directed at me. I suppose I am small enough. I will volunteer to check it out. How far do you suppose the tower is from us now?"

If the group agrees, Vamik will prepare by making and drinking an extract of negate aroma. He will stealth up, circling around, approaching from down wind, sniffing for the tell-tale scent of creatures (auto-detect within 60ft). Vamik will also cast message on Quercus and Zarrisa, as they might be able to stealth in if there is trouble.

Vamik sneaks up to the tower after drinking his extract and listens and watches. He only hears the sound of birds chirping in the ruins. Coming closer and inspecting the tower, he sees that for the most part is has collapsed entirely and the shell of the outer wall remains, but nothing is left of its insides, The wooden floors have long since rotted away to nothing, devoured by nature. Only the weather worn stones remain. A fair amount of the stones and debris litter the inside of the tower's stone floor.

Vamik perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Nearly writing the tower off as an uninteresting total loss, the ratfolk notices a cool draft and strange echo coming from the tower. The chirps of the swallows that have nested in what remains of the wall reverberate oddly, and Vamik crawls closer. He sees that behind some rubble there is an opening in the floor. Long ago a large trap door rotted away. An opening to a large wide set of stairs descends into the depths. Much of the rubble from the tower has collapsed and rained down tumbling down the stairs, clogging it for all but the tiniest of critters. Vermin, rats, bats or any number of burrowing critters would happily call this home.

The staircase is perhaps 6' wide, rather steep but the steps are broad. Perhaps it was used for storage in the tower's heyday, otherwise such stairwells are typically tiny, narrow and winding for maximum defense.

I'm assuming the same, Vamik. I was mostly waiting people to post - since we're on the holidays, I just guessed people forgot to warn us about slowing down. ;) Since the GM warned us he himself was going to slow down anyway, so I guess it's all good heh


I'm back now for a few days. New years eve and day will be out of commission for me, and maybe the day after.

The group heads into the rubble of the tower, hoping it doesn't to decide to collapse even more. With an hour or so of effort, you manage to clear much of the debris preventing you from getting in. Goggh's large size helps clear more debris, which is nice since it is due to his size you need to clear so much.

The group then heads down the stairs. Goggh still has to duck and stoop over, and you won't be swinging and two handed swords or polearms down here, luckily no one uses and of those. The stairs lead down about 20' or so, and under the ground it is damp, cool, earthy. Despite being half clogged with debris. Critters and the elements have managed to get down here. Leaves and other detritus from nature have blown in and years of dirt and dust accumulated near the bottom. A short hall leads to a set of rotten old double doors. Off the side of the hall another set of stairs leads down even further.

Map forthcoming. Let me know your marching order, and any preparatory spells or the like. Do you all have dark vision?

I only have Vamik on the map as he is leading/scouting. Others can be placed as things unfold.

The group creeps into the underground and approaches the tunnel with the large doors and sees the side stairs down.

Goggh continues following right behind Vamik. He signs his group to stay silent, although his own size makes him the least stealthy figure around. He just hopes to find a nice, warm and protected spot, and together they could plan their next move.

While we're waiting, Vamik will drink his mutagen as well. It's his new recipe, so we'll have to see how it works out. (feral mutagen) He gains 4 dex and 2 nat armor, so armor is now 26, dex mod is now 8.

Quercus will have to cast Light spell. He doesn't have darkvision. It doesn't say under Ghoran that they do or don't have low light vision, but plant type creatures have low light. Mr Gibbons also has low light vision, so he will have an accompanying light orb with him. Sorry if that messes up any stealthy darkness stalking.

Quercus will also cast mage armor on himself. "Don't worry Goggh, I have got you covered." He also casts mage armor on Goggh. Quercus will also keep a detect magic active.

For marching order it doesn't particularly matter since he can tumble or move into the fight quickly, but he isn't good with traps or locks.
