Say, a strand of prayer beads, yes?
Would Flurry of Blows count as two-weapon fighting for the purpose of the Broken Blade Stance?
The developers want it to count as TWF for all sorts of things, so I figured it might apply here. Even if it doesn't, it's still a good enough stance to make me debate wether to take that or the Silver Crane counterpart.
The Dragon |
Gah. I thought we could pick the second one as well. Any chance you'll make one of them give Silver Crane?
If you're not going to answer that in advance, and I can see why, when it is 10:00 where you live? I'm going to bed soonish, might stay up though, if it isn't more than a couple of hours away for you.

I'm considering going with Temple of the Opal Ghost and Black Seraph Discipline Hungry Ghost Qinggong Monk. It's obviously tempting to go Oni- or Qlippoth-spawn tiefling, but I might just go with Orc to even out some of those high rolls (although making another a bit extreme).
A savage creature that was captured and thought tamed by an Opal Ghost adherent, but with enough cunning to learn and turn the tables on his erstwhile master, earning a place as a member of the temple. I shall ponder some more.

So everyone can continue character generation
Jade dragon- silver crane, viel of the moon, scarlet throne
Topaz tigers- primal fury, thrashing dragon, golden lion
Emeral tortoise- silver crane, iron tortoise, golden lion
Opal ghosts- black seraph, veiled moon, scarlet throne, steel snake
Sapphire monkey- vieled moon, thrashing dragon, solar wind, steel snake
Ruby bull- thrashing dragon, primal fury, golden lion,
On phone, so can't do the benefits just yet.

Whoot, access to the major disciplines I had been looking at. Thanks.

Die Rolls
R1: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 1, 1) = 6
R2: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 5, 5) = 15
R3: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 1, 4) = 12
R4: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 2) = 11
R5: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 2) = 14
R6: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 6) = 19
R7: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 2) = 7
Re-roll R1: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
Re-roll R2: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Re-roll R3: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
Re-roll R7: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
R1 = 2,2,3,3 = 9
R2 = 4,4,5,5 = 14
R3 = 6,6,6,4 = 18
R4 = 2,3,4,2 = 9
R5 = 4,4,4,2 = 14
R6 = 5,4,4,6 = 15
R7 = 6,3,4,2 = 13
So that would leave me with 18, 15, 14, 14, 13 & 9 to work with.
Based on other's posts I'm thinking I'll do the Zen Archer.
Hope to have a CS & backgound sometime tomorrow.

Seeing as how poor Ruby Bull has no applicants from it yet, I believe that Graceful Shen is going to decide to change monasteries. That way we can have all the monasteries represented! This would lead to him being a bit more of a boastful personality, but being known for your wisdom is just as good as being known for your physical might. Being known for both, while being under 3 feet tall, is even better!

Still not complete but this is what I have for now.
I don't know if I chose his maneuvers correctly.
Also, I'm not wild on his avatar.
-Sedoriku
Edit: just noticed the ability bonuses were every even level instead of EVERY level, like I thought they were for some reason. His Wis and Wis based numbers are correct now but I don't know about every other score...

Well, you have three first level stances, where one of them could be a third-level one, since you get a stance at level 5.
You also have access to third level maneuvers, yet I only see one on your sheet.
For reference, the table that says which maneuvers your highest level can be goes like this:
Initiator lvl:Maneuver/stance lvl
1-2:1
3-4:2
5-6:3
7-8:4
9-10:5
11-12:6
13-14:7
15-16:8
17+:9
Just like a wizard's spell progression.

As said, you are in the land of hexie. To the north and west rise high impassable mountain's, cutting you off from the rest of the land. To the east and south there is naught but ocean. For culture picture ancient Chinese meshed with Japanese. (Both in slightly romanticism like versions.)
The land is 'ruled' by the emperor and his family, along side the 6 orders that have been implanted in the culture sense the times of strife. The Influence of the orders is so great that the emperor can do no great change, or proclamation without the backing of at least half the Orders, as such, things have stayed mostly the same the past centuries. Every decade the Orders have a 'trial competition' where they select members of their order and send them mount chai, for trials and arena combat. Some say this used to be an ancient ritual of importance, however today it is merely a competition to prove ones order supieror. Their are little in the way of monsters left in the land, so it has known peace for centuries, its army is small, and untrained usually relying on the orders to keep things in check. Most of the populace are well off peasants, fishermen, lumbermen, farmers. Their are some merchants, and the artisans are all masters of their craft. Most of the peasants all know at least the basics of martial arts as it is integral to their culture, either being the sons/daughters of members of the order, or through other means.

Seeing as Nau and I are creating almost the exact same character, I think I might reconstruct Amin as a maneuever master instead... Which I actually have a better character idea for anyways. (To play the character I had been shooting for would not have been as effective)

also, to help you all along, and help me get a grasp on your charactes, please complete this- 10 minute background

This is the Lion Cleric reporting in with Graceful Shen, the world's fiercest halfling.
@Aestereal, sorry about that, I know how you feel. Best of luck with future characters!
I will add my backstory to the character tomorrow. Is it possible to learn more about the monasteries, or are we allowed to tell you what the monasteries do (Example, the Ruby Bull Monastery being known to collect parties of monks to attack bandits for fame, or the Jade Dragon being famous brewmasters, etc...)
For Graceful Shen's combat inspiration, look at Master Yoda in the Star Wars prequels and add flesh-tearing punches.

Man I've been wanting to play this monk for a very long time, I think I finally will. I am going to begin crunch and fluff but here is the main idea:
Monk of the Four Winds/Ki Mystic, I plan on taking Greater Trip/Vicious Stomp combo and focusing on full-attacking with flurry of blows so I will be getting Hammer the Gap, and I will be focusing on one style feat chain, but idk which yet...probably either Panther or Snake.
EDIT: or crane...
BigP4nda |
Dice rolls:
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 3) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4, 2) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 4) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 1) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 3) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 4) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 3, 1) = 11
Rerolls:
5d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 4, 3) = 19
Results:
(4,3,6,[3]) = 13
(4,5,4,[2]) = 13
(3,[2],4,4) = 11
(5,5,4,[3]) = 12
(5,[2],3,3) = 11 DROP
(6,6,6,[4]) = 18
(4,6,3,[3]) = 13

Is this still open? This game is right up my alley. Especially since the last game with my Monk character was cancelled. I have to have at least one Monk at all times. =p
I'll try my luck with rolled stats:
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 4) = 19 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 4) = 14 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 6) = 11 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 4) = 11 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 4) = 14 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 4) = 15 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 3) = 10 = 11
Re-roll set 3: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
Re-roll set 4: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Re=roll set 5: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Re-roll set 7: 1d6 ⇒ 4
So 16 14 15 12 13 12...about the stats I would have picked with 25 PB anyway, and slightly better. Neato.
I think I'll make a character for either Jade Dragon or Sapphire Monkey, using Broken Blade and Veiled Moon Maneuvers.
May we use a style feat (such as Snake Style) at the same time we have a Stance from Path of War going?
There is actually a Feat for that in Path of War.
Also, Rorek, do you have Dragon Tiger Ox? There's some neat rules in there for attacking with different parts of your body for different effects, and some good flavorful races. I can send you a copy if you want.
Also also: Path of War Feats are on the table too, right? I'm considering being Dex based.

Alright I have decided the class and have chosen to take 2 dips mostly for access to utility.
Ki Mystic of the Four Winds 3 / Cloistered Cleric 1 / Spiritualist 1
Reasons for dips:
Access to more class skills, namely all of the knowledges.
For Investigator I wanted access to their at-will inspiration to trained knowledge checks
For the Cleric I wanted Orisons and the Cloistered Cleric gives me an additional +1 to all knowledge checks.
The Investigator provides me with an additional 2 skill ranks, as well as the vast majority of skills, leaving me with only 2 non-class skills.
I plan to put at least 1 rank in every one of my class skills.
Still working of background, but he will be a very wise and knowledgeable monk, and will have studied many things, being able to make appropriate knowledge, spellcraft, and linguistics checks.
I didn't need alchemy so I went with Spiritualist for the added utility spells.
Are you okay with these dips? I won't be furthering either of these classes nor will I dip into anything else. Its all monk from here on
rorek55 |
@Rynjin, I do not own a copy no and you may if you like. oh and yes its still open. if you would like to use feats etc. that aren't the maneuvers, if you would link them I would most likely ok them.
@Bigpanda, It seems fairly Reasonable to me, as long as you are a member of the jade dragon or the emerald tortoise
Rynjin |
Link to Path of War Feats page.
Of those I really want Deadly Agility, and am considering Serene Stride, Tactical Rush, Fuse Styles, and Discipline Focus.
Edit: Also, would Trip be viable in this campaign (many aren't due to an abundance of Large/Huge foes, flying creatures, etc.)? I'm considering making a Flowing Monk Drunken Master?
