Rhade Poshment |

Any Knowledge skills that might be helpful here, DM?
Quick to react, Rhade shoots a gout of fire at the crazy scroll, hoping it might be susceptible to his Burning Hands.
Damage 4d4 ⇒ (3, 3, 1, 1) = 8
Dc 14 Reflex save for half damage.

Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Rhade recognizes the intelligent construct as a Guardian Scroll. It has DR 5/-, is immune to bludgeoning damage but susceptible to fire and mind-affecting spells. It is quite tough also as a 3-HD creature.
Reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13...it fails to evade the gnome's fire spell and gets burned for 12 damage and catches on fire.

Rhade Poshment |

"That thing is a scroll guardian! It's tough...you have to cut it, so smashing it doesn't do any good. If you have fire, that is very effective against it!"

Jalal Hammada |

Jalal draws his sword and tries to cut the scroll in half.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Alzaar draws his scimitar while nursing his cut hand with his mouth.

Seeing little else to do for now, Kakra attempts to hit the scroll with her weapon, rather ineffectively.

Gorguk |

Thanks Rhade, perhaps Sarenrae will bless me with fireupon my strike. Gorguk moves up to aid his companions bringing his scimitar down upon the burning scroll.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
His aim continues to be off as he is too worried that the paper will start him on fire.

Jalal Hammada |

Jalal curses at the flying parchment and tries to cut it down again.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Reflex save: 1d20 ⇒ 9...The Scroll collapses in a heap of ashes as it is consumed by the gnome's fire!
With the animated object destroyed, the party looks in the secret panel and finds the following magical items:
*Tablet* - detects as magical
3 Scroll tubes: Align Weapon, Halt Undead, and Knock
Wand of lesser restoration (10 charges), respectively.
You also find a Tablet containing the following message: Link

Rhade Poshment |

"What a strange note. Kakara, does that note anything to you or involve amethyst in some way? If there's a secret to be hidden, that might be why that other group has been after us!"
Rhade takes the arcane scroll, and places it into a scroll case. I think Knock is the only arcane spell of that group.

![]() |

Halt Undead is arcane as well
"It's a rather curious note, that is for certain." Kakra says, examining the tablets further.

Jalal Hammada |

Jalal stomps on the burning paper ash, crushing the remnants of the animated scroll. Then he joins the others, reading over their shoulders. "What relic does this speak of? The tablet itself? Or is something missing? Perhaps this speaks of the Eye that the Sisters were after."
He frowns. "If the Eye is gone, then the Sisters have already found it. But why not take the rest? And was the scroll guardian set by them?"

Alzaar Na' Keth |

Alzaar tries to determine what the magical tablet is while the others work out the rest of the stuff.
Spellcraft with Detect Magic: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
At least this place is interesting, eh guys?

Gorguk |

After looking at the tablet himself Gorguk muses, Perhaps the relic has been transferred to this new city. This Crook and Asp location they make mention of. We are here in their temple but this is not a new city. If possible we might need to look into this as there are other treasures that it speaks of as well.

Kakra and Alazaar's magical divinings reveal:
Fashioned from granite, this stone tablet is approximately 2 feet long, 1 foot wide, and just over an inch thick. Dating to the period of the Keleshite Interregnum in Osirion over 2,000 years ago, the tablet was once part of a larger stone stele that was publicly displayed for all to see. Now known as the Tablet of Languages Lost, the broken slab is inscribed with a vow of fealty to the Padishah Emperor of Kelesh in three different languages: Ancient Osiriani, Kelish, and contemporary Osiriani. The characters and hieroglyphs of the three languages correspond to one another and serve as a translation key between the languages. Once per day, upon speaking the command word, the owner of the tablet can read and understand any written texts as if using comprehend languages for a period of 30 minutes. This does not allow the owner to speak or write unknown languages, or read magical writings (though the tablet reveals that such texts are magical). In addition, if the tablet is readily available and at hand, the owner gains a +3 competence bonus on all Linguistics checks. Finally, if the owner knows at least one of the three languages inscribed on the tablet, he can attempt Linguistics checks to translate the other two languages even if untrained in the Linguistics skill.

![]() |

"This could prove useful, though I do not think the other tablet referred to this." Kakra notes, examining the magical tablet closer. Being able to read and comprehend two of the languages on the tablet, Kakra is easily able to confirm that the text is the same between at least those two.
I think Kakra is the only one trained in Linguistics, perhaps I should hold onto the tablet?

Gorguk |

You might as well put it to good use. this does not seem like it would need to remain hidden as the missive indicates for the other item. We will have to search more as Rhade suggests once we get rid of the Sisters.
Gorguk flicks his scimitar in preparation for the eventual meeting with them.

Jalal Hammada |

Jalal collects the wand and offers the scroll of Align Weapon to Kakra. "An interesting cache. I'm worried about what dangers the relic could bring." He shakes his head. "Nevertheless, let's continue and see what else the temple holds."

The party proceeds north, allowing Alzaar to scout ahead.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
The hallway narrows to 5' wide but seeing nothing of concern, Alzaar presses on. Halfway down the 15' hall, he curses himself when he steps forward and hears a click. The blade of a scythe springs from the wall cutting down everyone in the hallway, which is only the poor bard, injuring him severely! The scythe retracts itself into the wall.
Attack: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (2) + 20 = 22
Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
With the 4 previous damage from the Scroll, Alzaar is currently at 4/21 hps.

Gorguk |

Gorguk had used 1 LoH earlier for 2 points of healing so Alzaar should be at 6.
Seeing Alzaar get cut severely Gorguk has a flashback of the previous party he was a member of before. Rushing forward but making sure not to step wher Alzaar triggered the trap Gorguk goes to staunch some of the wounds.
LOH 1d6 ⇒ 2
Kakra, we have need of you!

Rhade Poshment |

Rhade hangs back, not being able to heal and not being able to do anything about that trap. "Make sure it is disarmed. I'm not quick enough to avoid that thing!"

Jalal Hammada |

Jalal helps Gorguk get Alzaar back away from the trap. He looks over at the trap. "Deadly and cunning. This place clearly did not want intruders." He hunts around in his bag, finding that his Uncle had put the healing wand no where close to where he had previously stowed it. He activates it's power to heal Alzaar his wounds.

With Alzaar back to full health, the party notes where the trapped pressure plate is and easily avoids it. 20 feet north, the party sees stairs leading down to a second level and tracks that lead you to believe that someone else also came this way earlier.
You head down where you see a stone bench sits against the eastern wall of this octagonal chamber. Black tiles line the floor, walls, and ceiling. A short 5' wide passage to the south ends at a gate of bronze bars. Alzaar notices that this gate was recently picked. Through the gate bars, he sees another octagonal room with exits to the east and west. The only feature in this room, besides the exit doors, is a 6' statue of Nethys carved out of clay holding a staff 20' south of the party.

After almost 30 seconds, Alzaar smiles as he picks the lock and the gate swings open. Now what?

Gorguk |

Not having drunk any of the water from upstairs Gorguk is hesitant to cross under the watchful gaze of the statue of amethyst. Still there was only 1path to take unless Alzaar could find a secondary route. With that in mind goruk looks at the rogue. Any other exits from here that we can not see? To the more mystical Gorguk adds, or any magic that could give clue to any traps or surprises before we go forward?

Jalal Hammada |

Jalal nods. "Good precaution." He casts a detection spell, allowing him to see any magical auras.
Detect Magic

Rhade Poshment |

Rhade takes a deep breath. "Let's be honest, this whole place is one big trap. Let's just proceed carefully, with Alzaar checking closely, we should be okay."
I hope!

Alzaar Na' Keth |

Alzaar chuckles.
I wouldn't bet on it Rhade. I did just almost get killed...
His joke falls flat, and he shrugs, slowly opening the doors. He peers in once they are cracked open enough.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Gorguk |

I have an assortment of gear with me but no chain nor locks. I do not have any spikes either to drive in the ground to prevent the door from opening. I have a crowbar if you think that could be wedge to keep the door closed? How do the doors open? Inwards with handles that the crowbar could be used as a barricade?
Gorguk goes through his inventory whiel he waits for the others to decide which path to take. Portable ram, shovel, crowbar, miner's pick, rope. I have everything needed to open a stuck door but nothing to keep one closed. Next time we are in town I will remedy that.

Gorguk |

If no one takes the lead then Gorguk will approach the statue first paying mind that although he worships Sarenrae he is still in Nethys' domain here. Once safely there he will head to the west doors to barricade them.
I would prefer Alzaar to go first searching but this is only to move things along.

Jalal Hammada |

Jalal inspects the statue from a distance. He looks at the staff to see if it's part of the statue or separate. If nothing looks suspicious, he'll approach the statue to take a closer look.
