Anka Sarraf |
"Its alright, Alzaar. We trust your judgement. I mean..you've only run into two traps right? Maybe three?" She smiles snarkily and follows after the group.
The_Golden_Mummy aka DM |
To move things along.. Eventually, Alzaar takes 20 and finds evidence of a secret passage in the north wall, but no means of opening it without magic (i.e. Knock spell). Rhade detects no magic. There are stairs of an unfinished wing that lead west but eventually die out in caverns leading you away from the Tomb so you return. You head back North and proceed carefully through the double doors only to....find another set of double doors and then another set!
Alzaar checks those and finding them unlocked with no traps, opens them as well. The center of this large octagonal room is a raised square platform a few inches above the floor, with a stone pillar at each corner. A gold-trimmed sarcophagus sits in the center of the platform, flanked by two statues of humanoid beings with canine heads, each of which holds an ankh in one of its crossed arms. You have identified these as depictions of Anubis previously. Stone double doors exit the room to the north.
What now?
Rhade Poshment |
Rhade continues to search for magic, wondering if this might indeed be the owner of the tomb's final resting place. "Be careful...I bet this thing is trapped like crazy. Let's check the sarcophagus now, before we enter hose other doors. Last thing we want is something coming up behind us."
Jalal Hammada |
Jalal carefully enters the room, looking at the sarcophagus. "This could be Ankentepi's resting place. Should we open it?" He tries to examine the designs on the sarcophogus to see if they would indeed indicate the general was resting here.

Alzaar Na' Keth |
Its inventory day at work, so bot me if you want. I won't be able to post anything until tomorrow night at the earliest.
Rhade Poshment |
Alzaar moves to the sarcophagus and closely inspects it, looking for any hidden ways to access it, or traps that might be hidden on it.
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Alzaar moves to the sarcophagus and closely inspects it, looking for any hidden ways to access it, or traps that might be hidden on it.
Perception 1d20+5
The bard's acute senses alert him to a pressure plate on the central platform where the sarcophagus is located, seconds before he steps on it.
Other than the depictions of Anubis in the statues, there are no other religious references in the room.
Rhade Poshment |
"Watch out for that pressure plate," Alzaar warns. "Lets leave this for later. I've got a feeling this is just a decoy.". He looks for any other possible exits or secret doors in the chamber.
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Rhade follows along at a safe distance. "Be careful up there, Alzaar," he whispers! not wanting to distract his friend.
Jalal Hammada |
"You don't want to disarm it?" Jalal points to the trap. "They might be valuable items in the sarcophagus."
Rhade Poshment |
"Oh, we will eventually retrieve everything in this place, but if I fail to disarm it, I'm afraid it will go off and ruin everything in there. I'd prefer to wait and give it my full attention..
Im scared to roll a Disarm check for Alzaar, and have it fail and he get eaten by something. I'd hate if me rolling for him got him killed. I'd rather wait til he gets back and roll that for himself.
Rhade Poshment |
"Everyone be very careful in here. There are traps all over this place!". Alzaar leads the others tip toeing to avoid all the traps as well as possible. "Lets have a go at one of those secret doors. How about the one to the east," the trapsmith mutters.
"Lead on, friend. And yes, let's do be careful. No more traps would be great," Rhade exclaims looking closely at the areas he was told to avoid.
The_Golden_Mummy aka DM |
Alzaar detects no traps at east door. He opens it to reveal a 10'x10' room, filled with human-shaped bundles wrapped in linen. Each wears a small medallion around its neck. You easily recognize the symbol as that of Pharasma. The bodies wrapped in linen have been mummified. There's writing on the wall, which Jalal recognizes as runes set to ward off curses.
Jalal Hammada |
"Careful. Those are mummies. They're both delicate as well as possibly dangerous. One of my ancestors was cursed by a mummy." Jalal glances up. "And those runes ward against curses. So the builders had it in mind."
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Rhade Poshment |
Assuming there is nothing of value at hand, Alzaar leads the group to the other secret door, wondering if there was more than interred servants located in there.
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Anka Sarraf |
Anka will move up to investigate the bodies, glancing at the medallions. "Should we take these? They are likely worth something...I'll let you check for traps though." She'll nod toward Alzaar and stand well back, leaning against a wall with her new sword in hand.
Alzaar Na' Keth |
Alzaar carefully inspects the secret door, murmuring to himself. He speaks to the group after a moment.
Everyone be on your guard. I haven't seen anything yet, but I've seen several tombs where a secret door like this led only to the guardians of the interred. Could be a fight on our hands, though I can't be sure.
He unfurls his whip and finishes up his inspections.
Sorry it took so long to reply. Had a meeting who my old band the other day and it looks like we are getting back together and playing downtown again. Been busy with that, though my posting rate shouldn't suffer because of it. Glad to finally be able to post again!
Alzaar Na' Keth |
Alzaar stealthily listenes at them, and checks under them if he can, to spot any dangers on the other side, and then quietly opens them.

Alzaar motions to the group to stay put, and then points to the secret door, makes a walking motion with his fingers to motion movement on the other side. He silently makes his way to the door, and inspects it for traps and any clues he may glean about what is scraping on the other side. If his inspection comes back clear, he motions for the group to take a position of attack and he opens it.

"Great job finding all those secret doors! I would have plodded right on by and never seen any of them, I bet. Keep it up Alzaar!" Rhade, after piping up, kept his distance, not wanting to chance that his friend might have missed something in his search.
Jalal Hammada |
Seeing Alzaar's motion of someone walking, Jalal draws his sword, trying to keep quiet. He nods back to the man.
Anka Sarraf |
Anka will try to move up quietly after Alzaar makes his motion. She'll arch an eyebrow and gesture with her blade to the door. 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
The_Golden_Mummy aka DM |
Alzaar moves up and slides open the secret door and quickly jumps back, as he sees a housecat-sized beetle clicking its pincers right behind the door, its glowing glands providing ambient light.

Jalal reacts instantly to the beetle, bringing his kopesh down on the hard shell. "More tomb vermin!"

Alzaar heavily relies on battlefield position so I was waiting on Anka as well.
Anka Sarraf |
Sorry work has been crazy. This is my first day off in the last 8 days -_-.
"What do these things eat down here?" Anka moves beside Jalal and swings her scimitar with both hands. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 for 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Yeah but the beetle's touch AC is 10!
Rhade's acid strikes the beetle in the eye and it crumples to the floor after some chittering.
You can go into the rough hewn tunnel south from whence the beetle came; north down the stairs or east back to the sarcophagus room?
Alzaar Na' Keth |
Alzaar looks down the passage that the beetle came from and casts his sift spell again, searching the area to see where it leads and what may be in it.
