I think they had to eat somewhere, and an alternate path to the surface would be the only option since the place was sealed tight.

Alzaar heads south and finds some tunnels in the wall from where the beetles bore through and unlocks the secret door that the part had found earlier and could not open.

So it appears only 2 ways to go for party:
1. Down the stairs to a set of double doors
2. Back into 2x-trapped room to disarm traps

"You want me to go through that," Kakra indicates the beetle tunnel, "In this?" She now indicates her armor, knowing full well that she would likely be the last through the tunnel if they had to retreat and she would likely have an easier time with the traps.


Alzaar checks and opens the double doors to the south. This room holds several neatly arrayed chests, boxes, and urns. The dust of centuries covers every surface.

I agree with Jalal. The sarcophagus room should be next. The traps in there will likely take a bit of time to disable, and I want to get started on them as soon as I can. Next time we're in the city, I wish to buy some better tools. I get the feeling that we'll need them if there is anything else down here.

On Alzaar's turn, if he is not unconscious, he will use a withdraw action to get to the rest of the group. He shouts out as he back away Burn them! There are too many for weapons! Burn them all!

If he is unconscious on his turn, then he will have tried to squish as many as he could with his falling body. :)

DM, I'm not good with 15' cones, but I think it might be possible to have the fire go I to D3, C 3 & 4, and B 3 4 & 5. If so, I'll do that. If that isn't possible, I still have to cast the spell, and hopefully it doesn't catch many of us.

Anka throws her flask but miscalculates and it shatters against a crate harmlessly.

Noticing the effectiveness of Rhade's burning hand, Kakra tries the same spell, though her's seems less spectacular.

I think that's just about the only thing I can do against a swarm.

Releasing the fire from her hands, Kakra feels her burns swell up. –1 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, and skill checks until you spend an entire round away from fire

Alzaar swats the last of the creatures off, and looks around the room for anything he could use to help, like a torch or something that will burn easily that he can throw into the mass.

Keep burning them! And the next time we are in the city I'm not leaving until we have some alchemists fire!

With the nausea overwhelming him, Alzaar fails to find any supplies.

Kakra's fire burns a good deal of the roaches but enough remain to constitute a swarm!
Total damage to swarm: 8 points of damage.

Round 2: Swarm!

The swarm moves west and overcomes the nauseated Jalal, who falls before their bites damage! The flesh-eating cockroaches salivate over their new feast!
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4; Jalal at -1/10 hps
Fort DC 14 or be nauseated again.
The nausea passes Alzaar.

Oh, and I think I was wrong in my last post. Rhade gets three first level spells per day, not two. So I can burn those punk swarms one more time, lol.

Just as the swarm starts to focus on a new target, it suddenly disappears from existence! Spell only lasted 2 rounds!

You can access secret door to east but Jalal is dying (need stabilization roll from him) and I assume some subsequent healing before you proceed.
