Pretty |

"The night is dark and full of Pretties." She smiles with the joke. "The more dangerous the better. But hold an end of a rope in case something weird happens." She takes a rope from anyone and ties one end at her waist, handling the other end to the others.
Then she moves down on the steep ledge, slowly to try not to make a noise, and careful not to step on loose stones.
Take 10 on Stealth for 18.
Take 10 on climb (if needed) for 8 total

GM_Jacob |

1d20 + 5 - 6 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 6 - 2 = 16
As Pretty peers down the hollow, a terrible, scratchy scream comes up to meet her. As she looks on, she sees a kobold, tied against the wall by the tree roots, being slowly poked to death by 6 mites with scalding hot wooden sticks. Three of the kobold's companions are tied to the same wall, but they hang limp, already dead from the mites' torture. Because of the distance and the yelling, the mites do not yet see Pretty. Now, with a better view, it is clear that a controlled slide could get a person down the hole, but it will take climbing to get back up the same way.

Pretty |

Pretty comes back up a little to inform the group of what's happening down there, and tries to keep her voice very low:
"I could try to provoke them by killing one with an arrow, and then we wait on the previous room until the others come. Any other ideas?"
@Jacob: Are there enough roots on the walls to climb using them?
If we were to come down it would be one at a time, and they would have the advantage, so I don't many options here...

Pretty |

Did I Jacob?
There could be one, not visible, at least.

Idris of the Blade |

"There's another tunnel in that direction -- it could lead further downward, allowing us to reach those mites without having to climb... on the other hand, if we save that kobold, it could be grateful," whispers Idris. "Let's go... Pretty should probably go first. I'll be right behind. Blessings are a good idea in general, but we need to be quick and quiet, so bless us when we get down there."

Pretty |

By 'controlled slide' you mean we can just let ourselves slide through the hole or do we need someone holding a rope tied to us?

Pretty |

Oh, ok, let's go!
Pretty goes back on her childhood by sliding down and she immediatly gets up to deal with the mites and to get away from the landing point, since the others are coming.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Pretty |

Pretty was pretty sure they got trapped in a timeless zone while sliding in the hole. I should have checked the hole for traps...

GM_Jacob |

Sorry it's been so long. Got away from me.
Three of you slide down the hole and land, standing and ready for action, at the bottom. The room you are in is covered in roots, and is lit by a few torches on the walls. There is an exit leading to another room to the East, but a chasm cuts across it. The mites leap back, startled, and one of them gets close enough to the kobold to catch a sharp toe to the behind.
Maja, Sera, and Cassius, you are all still at the top. Pretty, Kivan, and Idris, you may act in the surprise round.

Pretty |

Hey, glad to have you back.
Pretty ends up a little bit away from the monsters, so she tosses a dagger to the one which she can see best (second in line from left to right)
Throwing Dagger: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12! Damage: 1d4 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + (6) + 1 = 8
If she can she uses her Prehensile tail to draw another dagger (swift action).

Kivan Corsan |

Kivan casts a spell to affect the two mites next to him, and the mite in front of Idris.
Casting Color Spray to affect the two mites in front of Kivan, and the mite in directly front of Idris.
Will save DC 15
2 HD or less: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
The creature is unconscious, blinded, and stunned
1d4 ⇒ 4 then blinded and stunned
and then stunned for 1 round.
3 or 4 HD: 1d4 ⇒ 4 The creature is blinded and stunned
then stunned for 1 round.
5 or more HD: The creature is stunned for 1 round.

Pretty |

I'll let Kivan act, and then trow the dagger at one who's still standing, or the easternmost one.
Don't you sleep void?

Idris of the Blade |

Idris attacks the mite southeast of her.
two-handed aldori sword attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Pretty |

Me thinks your thinking is correct! ^_^

![]() |

Pretty, Idris, and Kivan slide down the hole, arriving in the torture chamber in a shower of dirt clumps and small rocks. The startled mites barely have time to turn around and gape at you with their hideous, oversized faces before you act.
DC 15 will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
DC 15 will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
DC 15 will save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Unfortunately, the mites' slow reaction means that only one gets overcome by fantastic colors - the other two simply weren't looking. The mite in front of Idris topples over senseless.
Pretty's throw is spoiled by the close quarters; her arm can't extend fully and her dagger flies high and to the right.
Idris' sword is flashing towards her target even before her boots crunch into the soil. She catches an oblivious mite with a clean slash from behind. It crumples to the ground in a red ruin, never knowing what killed it.
Cassius: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Idris: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Maja: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Kivan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Pretty: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Seraphina: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
mites: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
surprise round over. Everybody goes before the mites, so you can either go in order or not, as you please
map here
posting from my phone, if there are issues I'll fix the map in a couple minutes when I get home. The mite south of Idris is unconcious, the one southeast is dead. You are all squeezing due to low ceiling.

Pretty |

Nice! Moving again! The map is in presentation mode, so I think we cannot move our tokes, but is otherwise ok.
Pretty approaches the creature south of her (5-foot-step) and deliver two quick trusts with her daggers, taking advantage of the creature's confusion.
Dagger 1: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13! Damage: 1d4 + 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + (6) + 1 = 10
Dagger 2: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6! Damage: 1d4 + 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + (5) + 1 = 9
Fixed, thanks Idris.

Idris of the Blade |

Idris will move 10 feet to the east and strike out at the mite to her east. Attack, Bless: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23damage (two-handed): 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 She wants to make sure she gets a slice at any mites trying to flee.
Pretty, you forgot Bless, though it may not matter, and I just figured out we can edit the map by clicking on the little gear icon at the bottom and choosing open editor.

![]() |

thanks for the edit :) The one limitation of google stuff is it doesn't work very well on my phone. try this link to the map and see if that works any better.
Idris hews another mite to the ground, where it tumbles limply into a heap with a piteous cry.
Unfortunately, Pretty's attacks do not find their mark.

Pretty |

It does allow us to edit directly. Thanks.
I suffer so much without Weapon Finesse... 2nd level where are you?

Kivan Corsan |

Kivaqn moves back and throws a small amount of acid at the mite in front of him.
5 ft. shidt back, and using acid splash on the mite in front of Kivan.
Attack vs. touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

Maja Weatherseed |
It's alive!
Round 1
Maja drops down the hole, trying to land on her feet. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 - 1 = 16
She then moves next to Idris One square to the left and stabs at the mite in front of Pretty with her longspear.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 10; damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
I'd edit the map but I don't have an icon of myself!

Idris of the Blade |

I added one for you, Maja -- you actually can right-click on your forum icon, choose 'copu image' and then paste it into google drawing. I put it in a position where you'd be able to attack the mite with your longspear -- remember that with a reach weapon you can't attack adjacent squares.
GM Red, I sent Cassius a PM letting him know you were taking over, but he hasn't replied yet. Perhaps GMPC him for a bit? He is arrow-focused, and doesn't like kobolds.

![]() |

Kivan, I'm adding 1 to your attack roll due to bless, which makes it just enough to hit the flat footed mites with the -4 squeezed penalty! I added icons for Seraphina and Cassius to the map, when you join in place yourselves.
Maja's spear thrust gets tangled in a root growing from the ceiling, but Kivan's acid spell hits its target in the face. The mite in front of Kivan falls to the ground screaming and clawing at its eyes disabled at 0 hp
I'll give Seraphina and Cassius a little time, we've just restarted.

Seraphina Medvyed |

I wasn't precisely sure where she was or what she could see. I honestly just never took the move because I was pretty sure nothing would come of it. Was it an acrobatics roll to make it down to where they are?
Seraphina fumbles her way down to join the others and shoots an orb of acid at the closest mite.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 Acid Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

![]() |

I believe that your draconic bloodline power would make that 4 damage
A shower of dirt herald Seraphina's arrival. Landing on her feet, she quickly sizes up the situation and conjures a blast of acid that flies true and takes the mite in front of Pretty in the face as well. It collapses, dead.
It appears that having your most prominent body feature being your head is not an asset in battle.
Cassius acrobatics: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Cassius bow attack, point blank shot: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 - 4 = 19
Cassius damage, cold iron arrow: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cassius' landing is less steady, but he recovers quickly and looses an arrow at the mite near Idris. It's well aimed, and the cold iron easily parts the flesh of the foul fey fighter as it feathers his face. The mite goes down hard with a muffled groan.
And just like that, the ambush is over. The mite that Kivan hit with acid is all out of fight, and thrashes piteously on the ground in agony. Next to him lies the comatose mite, dazzled with color spray.
The kobold hangs from the wall, badly injured. He has suffered greatly at the hands of the mites, and doesn't have much life left in him. His breath is ragged and comes in shuddering gasps. One eye watches you weakly, the other a ruined mess. Left alone, the kobold will clearly die a slow, agonizing death. Interestingly, you note that his scales are a dusky hue, a stark contrast to the vibrant red of the kobolds who ambushed you and those you found in the radish patch.
The cramped room continues to the east, where you see a dark chasm rending the floor and impeding progress.

Maja Weatherseed |
The immediate threat abated, Maja goes up to the injured kobold.
"You poor thing, we're here to help you." Maja channels energy to heal the kobold. Channel: 1d6 ⇒ 2.
She then checks on its condition, though she doesn't know much about the physiology of these odd creatures. Heal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Pretty |

"I'll bet he has nothing to tell us, even if it can speak our language." Pretty moves to the comatose mite, dagger at hand, ready to coup de grâce it, but she waits until the other party members have spoken.

![]() |

channeling will heal the injured mite as well. Let's assume you dispose of or tie up the mites before channeling
Maja's healing magic washes over the kobold with soft, soothing light. While it is still hurt, the worst of its wounds close. Licking its lips, it rasps out a single word.

Kivan Corsan |

"Well it wants water."
Kivan stands at a slight distance from the creature, so that none of its blood gets on his nice robes.

Pretty |

"Mine is here, don't worry." Pretty looses her waterskin and handles it the kobold, speaking with it:

![]() |

Heedless of Pretty's warning, the kobold sucks greedily at the waterskin, thin rivulets running down its scaled face. In a matter of moments, the waterskin is empty. The kobold sighs in relief and after a moment, speaks to Pretty.

Kivan Corsan |

Kivan seems interested in this 'Horned One', but knows he isn't good at talking, so he whispers to Pretty in Common.
"Would you mind asking him about the Horned One? It seems important."
Kivan looks at the others down in the cave with them.
"We should get some food out for him in case he gets hungry."

Idris of the Blade |

Idris wipes her blade, murmuring, "Blessed be the Lord in Iron," as she sheathes it. She then searches the mites and examines the dead kobolds carefully, and looks around the little room. Taking 20 on perception if possible, otherwise taking 10 for 11.

Pretty |

Pretty translates the conversation to anyone who do not speak draconic. See the spoilers above.
Draconic in the open: "Master builder! Nice! I'm Pretty, and this are Kivan, Idris, Maja, Sera and Cassius. You are correct, we are not with the Horned man. That's the Stag Lord, isn't it?
We are our own lords, and we came to this region to build a settlement! That means we will either eliminate threats, as the mites were, or make alliances with the ones who may negotiate with us, like we would like you to do. I may also be bearer of bad news for you, or even good ones. On our way here, we tried to speak with some other kobolds, ones who had a bright red scale, but they attacked us instead of having a conversation. Just because they thought we would steal their radishes, like if we cared about that. Anyway, I hope that's not your tribe, but if it is, I'm sorry, we tried our best."
There it is! Diplomacy with some Intimidate and some bluff!

![]() |

Idris' search turns up nothing valuable. The room appears to be a dedicated torture chamber, as the roots on the walls have been coaxed into a semblance of manacles and various sharp stick tools litter the floor. The mites were dressed in foul rags of crude linen, and possessed nothing of value.
The mite hit by Kivan's acid spell finally expires, its thrashing tapering off as it goes limp. The unconscious mite awakens to find Maja threatening it with a spear, and starts babbling in some foul tongue as it cowers and grovels on the floor.
Mikmek keeps his good eye on the surviving mite as he answers Pretty in Draconic.
"Stag Lord... that could be. He is a giant man who wears the horns of a forest elk on his armor. He lives in a ruin by the shore of the big lake, and has many cruel humans under his thrall. They bear a charm as a badge of office, which I fail to see on you."
When Pretty mentions the red kobolds, Mikmek is silent for a moment and then replies "Yes, they are troublesome. No, they are not my tribe."
"I came to this place on a mission against these foul mites," Mikmek continues. "The details of your settlement can wait. Lords-of-your-selves, I ask that you free me from these restraints and further tend my wounds. I know much of the dangers ahead and it seems we share these mites as enemies."

Pretty |

Pretty goes after the kobold in the same instant, smelling his lie and throwing it against him, so he would not try that again.
Draconic: "Well Mikmek, I think you're lying. I can smell it. We are being honest with you, we saved you and intend to let you leave this place and no further harmed. But lie to me just ONE more time and that won't happen. This is not a threat, but a warning, so don't be stupid. Those are the Sootscale, aren't they?
She turns to the group:
"Who's got one of the Stag Lord emblems?" She shows it to the kobold, and goes back to speaking with it in draconic:
Draconic: "Is that the emblem you were talking about? Do you work for him?"
Feel free to add your questions group, I'll translate them and the answer for you, consider it done already.
