Silver Crusade

Note1: Compelled people are not on the “same side”. They will not consider themselves allies with anyone for certain effects (e.g. flanking), as they are just as likely to attack them next time.
Note 2: None of you would have weapons drawn, so don’t forget to account for that in Round 1.

"I will try and break the enchantment effect. If you are still sane and can do so as well, that will be the quickest resolution to this", Shazz shouts out.

Battle Map

Pae, Iavesk, and Efreat are up. (Will be resolved in post-order. I will handle Iavesk.)

Silver Crusade

Forgot Iavesk had a Falchion now...

Iavesk succumbs to the spell effects and suddenly notices that Shazzathared isn't really Shazzathared after all. She is clearly an imposter trying to deceive everyone.

"What have you done with the real Shazzathared, devil witch!", he maniacally exclaims while drawing his falchion and attacking.

+1 Falchion: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20 for S dmg: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (6, 5) + 10 = 21

I always knew I couldn't trust her. Such evil hidden behind such beauty; she will surely kill us all ...
"Bahir watch out!"

Pae draws his +2 genie-bane rapier and attempts to drive it into Mah'ysa.

+2 Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34 for P: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 and sneak: 7d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 1, 5, 2, 2, 3) = 18 [flat-footed, threatens]
confirm: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20 for P: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 crit dmg

36dmg, plus Mah'ysa takes -2 attack vs. Pae for befuddled: 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds
Of course Pae would finally pull of a sneak attack and crit

Silver Crusade

Efreat:
Actually, feel free to cast any defensive spell you choose. I was just assuming it would be Mirror Image in this situation.

Silver Crusade

Efreat being GMPC'd while his hard drive is dead.

Efreat's face falls as he realizes that three of his closest friends have suddenly turned on him and are definitely out to kill him. He backs up and shouting "floz'besh'ree", he casts mirror image.

1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 images appear.

Silver Crusade

"Hmm, who is affected...tough choice...", Shazzathared mutters. Noticing that Efreat and Bahir looks affected, she decides that Efreat is potentially the deadliest a the moment and sings a soothing chord as she casts Break Enchantment on him. "They will attack the nearest creature, watch out."

Caster check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27 vs. (11+CL)

Efreat quickly comes to his senses before he is able to inflict serious wounds on anyone.

Perception checks for Shazz:

Perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (10) + 21 = 31 Bahir
Perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (19) + 21 = 40 Mah'ysa
Perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (14) + 21 = 35 Efreat
Perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (3) + 21 = 24 Hazreem

----
Bahir is up, and then Mah'ysa and Hazreem.

Scarab Sages

I am here. You were going to direct my action?

Silver Crusade

I did, see 5 posts ago :)

Scarab Sages

Startled into action by Pae's warning, the paladin realizes the halfling is right and that an impostor has taken Mah'ysa's place, "What have you done with Mah'ysa?!"

Scimitar slash: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (5) + 18 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + (2) = 12

Mah'ysa: Our first quarrel ;)

Shocked by Pae's backstab and horrified by Bahir's slash across her body, Mah'ysa struggled to understand what happened.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 1 = 22
Unable to quite comprehend exactly what afflicted her friends, she knew it was some kind of powerful compulsion.
Unable to endure her friends flashing blades, she backflipped/tumbled out of their reach back to the wall.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 25 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 25 + 1 = 32 (to avoid AoOs)
"Pae! Bahir my love! Please! Calm yourselves." She said in a low hypnotic voice.
She casts Calm Emotions. Will save DC17 or no fighting for as long as I Concentrate, up to 12 rounds.

Round 1 Summary:

  • Iavesk falls under the effect of the symbol of strife and attacks Shazzathared but misses.
  • Pae also falls under the effects of the compulsion and drives his rapier into Mah’ysa, dealing 36 damage, leaving Mah’ysa befuddled as well (-2 to attack vs. Pae)
  • Efreat, falling under the spell, suddenly believes he is surrounded by three enemies and quickly casts mirror image as he backs up (8 images)
  • Shazzathared breaks the enchantment on Efreat with a melodic spell before Efreat can unleash any deadly spells.
  • Bahir, also affected, steps up and strikes Mah’ysa with Tempest dealing 12 damage.
  • Mah’ysa, shocked and hurt by her friends actions, deftly moves away and casts calm emotions on Bahir, but Bahir is able to resist the calming effects of her spell.
  • Hazreem quickly wild shapes into a large air elemental as he ponders his next move.

    Battle Map

Pae, Iavesk, Efreat, Shazz are up. I will post later for those. If someone wants to handle Pae's action before then, that would be great.

  • Fem Half-Elven Cleric L13+Bard L1 | HP 99/107 | AC (26) 23 T17F18 CMD27 | Saves F11R13W18 | Percep +14 | Channels: 7/7 | Bard Perform 6/6 | Endure Elements | Status: OK | Grace (+2 saves)

Calm Emotions get everyone in a 20' radius spread. Sorry I forgot to include that in my description. I think I got everyone.

    Silver Crusade

    Iavesk will save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
    Pae will save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Despite Mah'ysa's soothing pleas for them to stop fighting, Iavesk, Bahir, and Pae continue to fight under the effect of the symbol of strife.

    Shazz will save: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33
    Efreat will save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
    Hazreem will save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Among those not currently affected by the symbol, Efreat hears Mah'ysa's pleas for everyone to stop and falls under the effects of the calm emotions spell. (cannot take any violent action or do anything aggressive, but can defend himself)

    Silver Crusade

Efreat takes a 5 ft step and surveys the current situation. Seeing that he is not close enough to Pae or Bahir to be attacked goes on total defense.

Pae now notices that Bahir is an imposter too determines to destroy him. He steps up and attacks Bahir (AC29) with all his fury. He lands one solid strike for 8 damage.
    Att#1, +2 Rapier: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
    Att#2, +2 Rapier: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
    dmg, P: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
    Att#2, confirm, +2 Rapier: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Iavesk continues his assault on what he perceives to be an impostor Shazzathared. However, he cannot penetrate the numble and flowing marid's defenses.
    Att#1, +1 Falchion: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
    Att#2, +1 Falchion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Shazzathared turns her attention to Bahir now and again casts break enchantment, hoping to free the paladin from the compulsion. Unfortunately, her spell cannot overcome deep fervor that has overcome Bahir.
    CL check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14 vs. 11+CL

Bahir, then Mah and Hazreem are up

    Scarab Sages

I missed that Shazzathared had taken her action.

Seeing it was counterproductive, Mah'ysa released the Calm Emotions spell.
"Bahir! Please stop!" She cried out.
She cast Dispel Magic on him, praying it would free him from this foul enchantment.

Hazreem spreads his airy arms out and soon his airy form swirls around faster and faster as he rises up towards the ceiling. "You'll thank me later Bahir!' He says as he flies right over the paladin and pulls him up into his body!

Assume Whirlwind form and fly into Bahir's space. Bahir needs two Reflex saves DC 23 first to avoid taking damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 (If possible, he would choose to do non-lethal damage here) and second to avoid being suspended in the whirlwind.

That seems to be the theme with the dice lately :/

    Reflex save to avoid damage: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
    Reflex save to avoid being picked up: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18

The paladin is carried aloft by the tornado-like winds but shields himself from flying debris behind his shield.

    Silver Crusade

    Round 2 Summary:

  • Pae, confused, now sees Bahir as his largest threat and steps up to deliver two quick strikes against the Paladin. One of this attacks lands solidly through Bahir’s defense. (8 damage)
  • Iavesk continues his attack against Shazzathared but cannot hit the Marid princess.
  • Efreat, affected by Mah’ysa Calm Emotions spell, backs himself away from the fray and takes a defensive stance. (8 images, Total Defense)
  • Shazzathared casts Break Enchantment on Bahir, hoping to end this quickly. However the Paladin is able to resist the effects of her spell.
  • Bahir, shocked by Pae’s sudden trickery, takes a full attack against the quick rogue. He lands a solid blow against the halfling. Fortunately for everyone, especially Pae, Bahir’s other two attacks miss. (9 damage)
  • Mah’ysa, ends her Calm Emotions spell, freeing Efreat from the effects, and attempts to dispel the powerful compulsion affecting Bahir. She cannot seem to break the enchantment holding the mind of her love though. (I don’t believe an 11 would dispel any other effect on Bahir.)
  • Hazreem quickly transforms into a huge whirlwind, hoping to subdue the confused Paladin. Bahir is sucked up into the whirlwind, though he is able able to avoid damage from the buffeting winds and debris flowing throughout Hazreem’s new form. Additionally, the area around Hazreem is now cluttered with flying debris, obscuring vision beyond 5ft and making spellcasting more difficult to anyone caught within.
(The actual base of the whirlwind is 5ft and in Bahir’s icon location. The top of the whirlwind is 20 ft. tall right now - Hazreem didn’t mention how high he wanted to be, and Bahir is basically just flailing randomly throughout the whirlwind. The pink boundary represents the cloud of dust and debris swirling about.)

    Whirlwind Affects:

Creatures trapped in the whirlwind cannot move except to go where the whirlwind carries them or to escape the whirlwind. Trapped creatures can otherwise act normally, but must succeed on a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) to cast a spell. Creatures caught in the whirlwind take a –4 penalty to Dexterity and a –2 penalty on attack rolls. The whirlwind can have only as many creatures trapped inside at one time as will fit inside the whirlwind's volume. The whirlwind can eject any carried creatures whenever it wishes as a free action, depositing them in its space.

If the whirlwind's base touches the ground, it creates a swirling cloud of debris. This cloud is centered on the creature and has a diameter equal to half the whirlwind's height. The cloud obscures all vision, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. Creatures 5 feet away have concealment, while those farther away have total concealment. Those caught in the cloud of debris must succeed on a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) to cast a spell.

  • <cough, hack> "Hazreem, not you too."
Pae, choked and half blinded by debris, lashes out at the base of the Hazreem whirlwind right next to him.

Hazreem, I am not super familiar with whirlwind, but I didn't see any reason Pae cannot attack you. Let me know if I am missing something.

    Silver Crusade

Iavesk, meanwhile continues to try and destroy the presumably false Shazzathared. The Marid is easily able to dodge the djinni's frenzied attacks.

    Silver Crusade

Efreat (GMPC'd) completely loses sight of Pae and Bahir within the swirling mass of Hazreem before him. Not being able to see much of anything, he moves around to get a better look at the situation.

Seeing Iavesk still attacking Shazz, he casts Dispel Magic on Iavesk, specifically targeting the Symbol of Strife effect. He is not able to dispel the Strife effect, unfortunately, and Iavesk continues to engage Shazzathared.

    CLC: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21 (vs DC=11+CL) (failure)

    Silver Crusade

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

"I cannot see Bahir any longer to try and break the spell, but I will release Iavesk now hopefully.", Shazzathared calmly shouts over the roar of the whirlwind. She then defensively casts Break Enchantment on Iavesk, breaking the strife compulsion over him.

    CLC: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23 vs. 11+CL

Upon having his mind freed, Iavesk breaks down, "Wha ... what have I done?"

Bahir is up. Would try and attack Iavesk : -4 Dex, -2 attack

    Scarab Sages

Do I get to make another save to get out of the whirlwind or am I stuck? Go ahead and make it for me if I do and then let me know what my reaction will be :)

    Silver Crusade

Bahir is currently trapped within the whirlwind, tumbling about (hope you don't get airsick...). A flying creature may attempt a new Reflex save each round to escape.
You have basically a very limited set of options when trapped in a whirlwind form: (1) attack the whirlwind, (2) gain the ability to fly and try to escape, (3) nothing

The compulsion, as written, forces you to attack the nearest creature. Since being stuck in the whirlwind doesn't prevent you from attacking, I don't really see any reason Bahir would try to cast a spell and escape at the moment, though I do hate deciding character's actions for them. If you think Bahir would tactically act otherwise, you can try and cast a spell but must make a [DC 15+spell level] concentration check while caught up in the whirlwind.

    Scarab Sages

Yeah, I think it is tough to even cast a spell for Bahir because of the concentration roll required so he would attack the whirlwind.

Yelling into the howling winds, "Hazreem! I can't believe that you too have become traitor and joined Jhavhul! I'm afraid I must put a stop to you and your new masters ways all the same!

    If you can crit Hazreem while in his current form than crit confirm: 1d20 + 8 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 4 - 2 = 22

hi everyone. back with my "new" computer. it appears that Efreat is under the effect of a calm emotions spell. I assume that means that i'm still in attack mode but can only take defensive actions, correct?

    Silver Crusade

Welcome back Efreat! Mah'ysa dropped the Calm Emotions and you, and you no longer under Compulsion either as Shazz cast Break Enchantment on you first (recognizing the threat you posed). You have cast Mirror Image and Dispel Magic so far, at least as best I remember. Bahir is stuck in Hazreem's whirlwind form and Pae is under compulsion too. Also, Hazreem's whirlwind has whipped up a dust storm that gives concealment to anything within it, and so targeting Bahir is difficult at the moment. I think that about catches you up.

    Silver Crusade

Efreat cannot see Bahir within Hazreem's whirlwind (i.e. has total concealment). He will need to amend his action.

    --------------

Pae continues, grimly determined to destroy Hazreem.

    +2 Rapier: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Iavesk, meanwhile, composes himself and determined to set things right yells out, "Is there something I can do to help?"

Will do a full round update if this continues past this round. I don't believe you can crit a whirlwind, at least it doesn't pass my 'make sense' filter. Hazreem has taken 47 dmg since last round, and Bahir has taken 10 dmg.

    Efreat's adjusted action is up

    cast spell at Pae instead

    Silver Crusade

You cannot see Pae either, though you do believe that if you approached the dust cloud (purple circle on map), Pae would be visible enough to target. Sorry, with jumping into the middle of stuff, I didn't make the complete situation more clear to you.

Hazreem's whirlwind also causes a swirling mass of debris, dust, and even water from the fountain in this case, noted by the purple circle. Anyone more than 5' away from someone that is within the cloud has total concealment, and anyone adjacent to someone within the cloud has partial concealment.

In short, if you want to target Pae, you just need to move a bit closer, which I can do for you as long as you agree. You would actually believe that Bahir is potentially targetable in there too since you really have no idea what is going on within the whirlwind. You could move fully within the whirlwind to try and figure it out.

Just a reminder here: Hazreem can eject anyone from the whirlwind as a free action.

Hazreem bellows out, "I understand." Once Efreat has cast his spell he casts Bahir out of the whirlwind and then fly up 10' so the debris is no longer stirred up.

    Silver Crusade

Efreat and Hazreem work up a suitable plan and Efreat creates a very realistic illusion of a Hezrou demon, programmed to wait outside the whirlwind and approach Pae and Bahir once the whirlwind lets up.

Upon completion of casting the spell, a large, horrid looking Hezrou appears; scaly, armored flesh, toothy mouthed, and hungry, reptilian eyes grace its form. Meanwhile, Hazreem deposits Bahir at the base of the whirlwind and flies up 20' or so feet out of the fight (needed to go a little higher than 10' probably). Once Hazreem moves up, the Hezrou positions itself in a way as to hopefully attract the attention of both Pae and Bahir. (Earth ele icon is the Hezrou on the map)

Since the conversation between Efreat and Hazreem was out in the open, both Pae and Bahir will get a perception check to have heard it, both with substantially increased DC whirlwind and distracted. We'll go with DC 22, due to conditions and Efreat yelling. (DC 0: conversation + 15: very unfavorable conditions + 5: distracted + 2: distance) This result will detemine whether the character can get a will save prior to interacting with the illusion.

    Bahir perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
    Pae perception: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (5) + 24 = 29 (auto-pass, but if it were a 1, I would likely reconsider)

Bahir hears nothing of the conversation and will assume the Hezrou is very real.
Pae, on the otherhand, hears the conversation between Efreat and Hazreem, and suspects that something is up when the Hezrou appears.

Oh good, I hope Efreat's illusion will draw off this fake Bahir...

    Will Save, DC 20: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 4 = 14 (+4 for believing an illusion was coming.) Fail!

What the ... ! Efreat brought in a real demon and is trying to kill us all...

    Efreat, what are you doing!

Pae senselessly attacks the Hezrou illusion.
    Att 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
    Att 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
