GM Dinketry |
Drael advances on the remaining gnoll as Layaali draws the wounds of her allies into her form and reloads her crossbow.
Round 5!
Razif, Min, and Rab-rab may act!
Rab-rab Bunnis |
Rab-rab goes into the other room, since the first is too crowded, and looks around for anything suspicious or more bad guys.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Min Bunnisbeldar |
Min doesn't want to waste his last good spell on this gnoll in the crowded room, so he tosses a cantrip at him!
"Daree doree dooo!" Min holds his right hand over his shoulder, as if he were winding up for a pitch. Icy, blue energy gathers in his hand. Then he throws his hand forward like he's throwing a ball. A beam of ice flies from his hands!
Ray of Frost (ranged touch): 1d20 + 5 - 3 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 5 - 3 - 4 = 4
Razif al-Akkuya |
Struggling to maintain his composure after repeat hits, Razif lets loose another arrow.
"Die, gnoll!"
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 1 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 11
GM Dinketry |
Min splatters a spray of ice along the bunks, failing to connect with the gnoll. Rab-rab tucks into a nearby room.
Another arrow blossoms in a red spray in the gnoll's chest, triggering a growling yip. The gnoll gasps, uttering in an out-of-breath voice:
"Padîşahê heywanan giyanê xwe hildin!"
Ranged Attack, Favoured Enemy: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 = 141d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7 MISS!
Slick with blood, the arrow slips out of the gnoll's bow.
The team is up - Drael and Layaali followed by the rest!
Drael Kapernos |
Frustrated at the last gnoll's continued survival, Drael takes advantage of having cornered the creature to bring down a brutal overhead strike against its guard.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
GM Dinketry |
Drael crushes the gnoll’s skull with his blow, felling the creature where it made its final stand.
Combat End!
Looking about the room, you see bunks suitable for up to eight guards and a small wardrobe in the corner.
Rab-rab Bunnis |
Rab-rab checks if there's anyone hiding in here.
...She gives each bunk a quick bounce.
Satisfied, she hurries out to see how everyone else is doing.
Min Bunnisbeldar |
Min runs off in a panic to find his sister.
"Rab-rab! Where are you?! Ack! Don't jump on those beds! They could have fleas! Plus, you broke the last one you jumped on..."
Layaali Twice-Born |
Some of Razif's wounds heal as Layaali's gush more blood.
Razif heals 5, Layaali takes 5.
Then Layaali gathers everyone close together and heals their wounds with the last of her magical prayers.
Channel Energy: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
What's your health at, Razif? Is it 19/23?
Razif al-Akkuya |
Yup, I believe 19/23 is correct.
As his wounds are healed by the oracle once more, Razif thanks her. "I'm sorry, Layaali, I'm putting a lot of strain on you."
With a small moment of peace upon them, Razif rummages through the gnoll archer's body, primarily looking to replenish his supply of arrows.
Layaali Twice-Born |
"We all play our part," Layaali replies, apparently unconcerned.
GM Dinketry |
GM roll: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11
Both of the rooms on the sides of the stairs are identical and feature crowded bunks and a wardrobe crammed with mundane personal junk. Razif is able to scrounge 12 arrows off of the two gnoll guards.
Peering out of the doorway in front of which the gnolls flipped the table, the gang can see that the construction in this part of the battle market is of markedly higher quality than that found elsewhere in the building. By torchlight, an elaborate mosaic traced in an intricate geometric pattern dances on the floor, and frescoes of slaves harvesting pesh fields adorn the walls. What appears to be a huge open arch sits in the middle of the curving inner wall.
Where to? 3 minutes remain on Drael's blur and Layaali's cat's grace. Razif's invisibility has ended. Min has a little bit over an hour remaining on his spell; Rab-rab has plenty of time remaining.
Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif will follow suit. "We can't be far from the source of all this... Take care, everyone."
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Min Bunnisbeldar |
Min grabs his sister's hand and hurries after Drael and Razif. "Come on, we're getting left behind."
Layaali Twice-Born |
Layaali stays in the middle of the group, trusting them to lead.
Rab-rab Bunnis |
"Coming!" Rab-rab follows -- at the back!
GM Dinketry |
Drael stalks forward towards the guttering torchlight flanking a large opening in the interior wall. Almost as soon as Drael sees the backs of the three large chairs facing the open-air of the battle market arena from behind a short balcony, the suli hears a low growl, and a larger-than-average gnoll begins swinging a pair of iron bars connected by a chain around its head, its face leering in what might be a comic grin, if it didn't look so sinister.
But it's the figure behind it that draws Drael's attention the most. The 7 foot-tall bald and scarred humanoid Kardswann stands at the ready, his ridiculously-large axe held in both hands, chest heaving in anticipation, his eyes twinkling with a strange light. He sees the suli and roars!
ROLL FOR (A VERY IMPORTANT) INITIATIVE!
Layaali Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
Min Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Rab-Rab Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Razif Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Other: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 161d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Kardswann calls out to Drael in his booming voice. "I suspect that my former lover has seen it fit to enhance you with her pathetic potions. No matter, I will kill her with pleasure after Ugruk and I slaughter you and your companions."
You can do nothing, Layaali, but free actions because your initiative is so low in order, but you can speak, and speak I think you should - as Vardishal. Give us your best shot.
Layaali Twice-Born |
"Bah!" Layaali suddenly bellows, a voice too deep for her frail form exploding from her mouth. "What a simpering worm you have become! Shameful! Hateful! Petty thing!" She shakes her head, placing her hands on her hips. "I am Vardishal, Templar of the North Wind! And you? You are trash -- putrescent rot on the corpse of your legend! You shame yourself, you shame the Templars, and you shame Princess Nefeshti!"
She spits on the ground, and curls her lip in abject disgust. "Prostrate yourself. Beg for redemption. Let go the foulness you've embraced. You are not too far gone for Nefeshti's forgiveness... But, you are out of time."
"Last chance."
Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
GM Dinketry |
[dice=Initiative]1d20+1
I already rolled your initiative, Drael. It's in the spoiler in my last post.
The strange voice that has bounced around various members of the party - Uzma, Korum, and most recently, Layaali - rockets force from the blank face of Layaali, her pupil-less eyes a strange golden light. A sudden look of recognition blossoms on Kardswann's face.
Everyone who is NOT Layaali may make an Aid Another Diplomacy check here to talk some sense into the Templar of the South Wind.
Razif al-Akkuya |
Aid Another: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15
Razif frowns at the reappearance of Varidshal, but attempts to support them nonetheless. Meanwhile, he eyes the massive gnoll up and down, figuring he'd be best of use focusing on him.
GM Dinketry |
Awaiting Min and Rab-rab’s Diplomacy Aid Another rolls.
Rab-rab Bunnis |
"Yeah! What she said!"
Diplomacy to ai: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Rab-rab and King Jack-jack nod their heads.
Min Bunnisbeldar |
"Layaali?" Min asks nervously. "Oh, dear... Zombie templar Layaali's back again..." He sighs.
Ugh... Dead folks...
Min tries to back up Zombie-Layaali, hoping they can end with without any deaths -- he and his sister's preferably!
"Yeah! Surrender!"
Diplomacy to Aid: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Orla Pfeffenpfoffer |
The gang back up the arguments emanating from Layaali's mouth with Vardishal's voice.
Layaali, go ahead and give me an important Diplomacy check with a +4 bonus from your colleagues.
Layaali Twice-Born |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 12 + 4 = 21
Gah! Of all the times to roll a five. Haha.
GM Dinketry |
Yup. Helluva thing, Layaali.
Kardswann cocks his head at the voice emanating from behind the curved wall, then narrows his eyes and grips his axe tightly.
He then disappears.
GM roll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Drael and Rab-rab may act!
Min Bunnisbeldar |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
"AAAAHHHH!" Min shrieks.
Rab-rab Bunnis |
Rab-rab gathers wind in her hands and waits....
Looking back and forth nervously...
Ready to shoot bunny-wind at the first enemy she sees!
She's readying an action to air blast the first bad guy she can see within 30 feet.
Air Blast: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 = 10
B Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (6, 2) + 5 + 1 = 14
Drael Kapernos |
Drael stays in front of the group, but doesn't move any further towards the room. He grips his sword tightly, ready to lash out at the first sign of Kardswann.
Readying an attack for if he appears within range.
GM Dinketry |
The massive gnoll howls and charges at Drael, undeterred by his inconstant outline.
Charge, Melee Attack, Combat Expertise, Blur: 1d20 + 2 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 8 = 241d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 111d100 ⇒ 75 HIT! 11pts of dmg, Drael!
The flind bar cracks into the suli's skull, loosening a few teeth and opening a massive gash in his scalp.
Razif, Min, and Layaali may act!
Drael Kapernos |
I believe that triggers Drael's readied action, if not then feel free to ignore the rolls below.
As the gnoll charges Drael, he does his best to strike down the newly emerged foe, but loses his balance after a brutal blow to the head.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
GM Dinketry |
You were watching for Kardswann to reappear, but I have no problem with you getting your attack on Ugruk instead.
Drael swings ineffectively at the gnoll as it charges him, clanging against its armour.
Layaali Twice-Born |
Some of Drael's wounds heal, as Layaali's head bruises and splits open, pouring blood down her temple. Drael heals 5, Layaali takes 5.
Not sure where the enemy is, Layaali steps beside Razif, to protect the gnomes from harm. She loads her crossbow.
Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif repositions to get a good view on Ugruk and draws his bow.
Like last fight, here's my bunch of modifiers: point blank, favored enemy gnoll, gnoll killer, deadly aim.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 - 1 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 11
GM Dinketry |
Razif's arrow sinks deep into the flind's chest. In response, the beefy monster chirps a yip-yip-yip! mocking laugh.
Awaiting Min.
Min Bunnisbeldar |
Min moves over and climbs up the wall thanks to Undrella's infusion. Then he waits up there, ready to shoot a blast of magic at Kardswann when he appears.
Spider climbing up the wall 10 feet. Then readying a ray of frost to shoot at Kardswann if he appears and is within 30 ft..
1d20+3-3[/dice: 1d6 - 1d6d1d3 ⇒ (3) - (3, 1, 3, 3) = -7
GM Dinketry |
I see Min's readied attack roll, but it's not formatted correctly, so I'll roll it for Min at the right point in combat.
The two gnomes ready attacks. Layaali loads her crossbow.
Round 2!
Kardswann reappears as he reaches out with his long axe and swings at the ranger!
Kardswann is no longer invisible.
Razif Perception Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17 PASS! You're not flat-footed against this incoming attack, Razif.
Min's readied attack: 1d20 + 5 - 3 ⇒ (16) + 5 - 3 = 181d3 ⇒ 2 HIT! 2 pts of damage!
The ranger's preternatural senses detects...something...immediately prior to Kardswann's appearance. Both gnomes blast elemental attacks as the scarred behemoth re-appears, but only the icy ray strikes true. It doesn't appear to faze him much as he gleefully chops at Razif.
Rab-rab, you're just out of your first range increment.
Melee Attack vs Razif, Power Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 151d12 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24 MISS!
The blade whistles by Razif's head and crunches mightily into the stone floor, carving a massive gouge in the flagstone pattern. With practiced skill, the Herald of the Carrion King frees the head of his lethal weapon, circles it around his head and swings laterally at the dunewalker.
Melee Attack vs Razif, Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 121d12 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24 MISS!
The blade crunches deep into the external curving wall of the battle market. Kardswann roars his displeasure.
"I have killed and eaten one already who dared to use the names 'Vardishal' and 'Nefeshti' in my presence. I will kill and eat you as well!" His eyes fix on the bloodied oracle.
Drael and Rab-rab may act!
Layaali Twice-Born |
3 people marked this as a favorite. |
"Come then! This shell has lived three lives. It can endure a fourth. Waste your breath and your childish rage, petty fool!"
Drael Kapernos |
Upon seeing Kardswann reappear, Drael steps directly into his path, blue fire crackling through his arms and down his blade as he thrusts at their long-sought foe. Activating Elemental Assault to add 1d6 electric damage.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + (3) + 6 = 15
Rab-rab Bunnis |
Rab-rab takes a step to the side, tosses her hands up in the air and gathers power, causing a whirlwind to swirl around her! Then she shoves her hands forward and blasts Kardswann with bunny wind! Gather power, then blast with the extended range infusion.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 15
B Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (6, 4) + 5 + 1 = 16
GM Dinketry |
I'll assume that Rab-rab is attacking Kardswann - it misses.
A rush of air passes by both Rab-rab's allies and the self-proclaimed ruler of Kelmarane. The large gnoll sidesteps from behind the inner curved wall and boldly moves to flank the crackling bloodrager.
Drael and Razif, you would both get an AoO for Ugruk's movement if you held a weapon with which you could take an AoO. Razif, I don't believe that you do.
