  • A lone bored-appearing rat-like large dog on two legs shrieks as soon as the ranger crests the upper floor of the chapel, freaking Razif out. As he recovers, everyone else acts. The druid, prepared for the barking shriek of the pugwampi and poised by Gozreh’s will, acts swiftly.

    Uzma, you may act! Anyone on the ladder cannot fire missile weapons (unless you have one-handed missile weapons). It takes a full round to climb up the ladder, and you must make a Climb check to do so if you’re in combat (otherwise, your entire round is spent climbing. Currently, only Razif is climbing.

    Lastly, until further notice, all subsequent PC 1d20 rolls must be made twice (with some exceptions to non-action Skill checks); the lower roll is counted.

    Uzma calls upon Gozreh for protection and then hurls the bright flame that is in his hand at the pugwampi...

    Uzma, from where you are on the ground floor, you cannot see the pugwampi on the second level. I'll allow you to cast heat shimmer, but you cannot attack the first pugwampi. We will retcon your missed attack to allow you to attack a different pugwampi (see below).

    A thin balcony overlooks the chapel floor some twenty feet below. Two rows of tall-backed wooden choir chairs dominate the southern reach of the balcony which hugs the chapel’s concave walls. Holes in the choir chairs indicate the frailty of the wood. Further emphasising this, the balcony falls away—collapsed for a span of perhaps fifteen feet—just on the other side of the choir area. To the east (please see the compass rose on the map), rickety time-worn wooden rafters stretch across the whole chapel. Two huge sections of these rafters have been engulfed in a sort of nest comprised of a patchwork of random bits of cloth.

    The pugwampi on guard howls and screeches and then brandishes his bow, aiming for the emerging ranger. In response to his screech, two pugwampi (who were obviously awaiting a signal) race out from within the nest along the main chapel rafter.

    The two pugwampi in question show up at this point in initiative order but don't get attacks this round. The pugwampi closest to the centre is visible to Korum and Uzma (who unsuccessfully attacked it with his produce flame attack). It might be visible to Layaali, but it is outside of twenty feet (twenty feet up and fifteen feet lateral).

    The bow in Razif's hands vibrates for a moment but passes. It does nothing to impede Razif's abilities however, as a second arrow pierces a second pugwampi crossing the main rafter.

    Uzma, the range of your summoning spell is only 25 feet. The chapel upper works is 20 feet above you. The snake appears on the map as I’ve positioned it - you can move it from there, but its speed is 20 feet and the pugwampi are more than 20 feet away, so no possible attack for your viper this round.

    As per the map, Uzma, you can only see the new pugwampi that fired its bow at Razif. He is outside of the range of your flare spell.

    Sorry. I hadn't seen the viper's position. Can the viper move towards the pugwampis? Also, can Uzma Flare the pugwampis from below?

    Uzma, the range of your flare spell is 25 feet. If you were just under the pugwampi and within line of sight, you could use it. Short answer: you don't have the movement speed to be able to get into a position to use flare this round. As far as your viper goes, you can move him 20 feet (one movement) or 40 feet (two movements) along the rafters on the map without any difficulties.

    Groaning in annoyance, Drael drops the bow on a solid section of the rafters to retrieve later, pulling out his warhammer as he waits to see what he can do to attack the pugwampis.
    I can't advance due to the crumbled wood, but I also can't attack. If someone has a ranged weapon for Drael to use, he can do that, otherwise he can't contribute much at the moment.

    "Can you see them?" Layaali asks Drael as she passes him her loaded light crossbow. "My gilded eyes cannot see that far..."

    After handing off her crossbow, Layaali prays loudly to Vildeis.

    "Honoured Vildeis, Cardinal Martyr! Grant us your blessing that we may defeat this EVIL!"

    Casting bless. For 1 minute all allies within 50 ft. of Layaali get a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and saving throws against fear.

    The other new pugwampi to join the fray rushes past the bloated pugwampi with the warhammer, its bow drawn and aimed at Uzma's viper. It growls and hisses at the snake.

    The pugwampi that was bit by the viper that no longer exists responds promptly by redirecting his bow at the injured Razif.

    Just checking, but simply copypasting the dice formula shouldn't in itself cause the same result, right? I copypasted a few more into the post to see if they'd get different results, which they did, so I don't think so, but this roll is pretty out there.
    Also sorry for editing this post a bunch, I keep noticing I forget things right after I press submit, like a second confirm crit roll
