GM-Bot activated for Korum.
The half-orc coughs - a wet, hacking noise coming from his chest - as he moves up to regroup with the gang. "I've seen blood-soaked battlefields," Korum says with a wheeze. "This was such a place. I do not know why, but people set upon these Sarenrite monks like dogs. Still, unless there is some other entrance to these crypts that we have not seen yet, I cannot fathom how these combatants came to be down here."
The half-orc coughs for ten seconds, wheezes, then continues."Think about it: we did not find the secret door behind the statue upon our first examination - it was closed. The only other entrance to these crypts was grown over with decades of mold and slime." Korum halts, his heavy breathing allowing the gang time to follow his train of thought.
Razif al-Akkuya
Razif nods and looks at the bodies.
"A tunnel, perhaps? Teleportation? I fear we won't figure it out until we press on. Just to be sure, let's take a short while to look over these passages."
Razif enters the northwestern most passage, and goes through them one by one.
Barring any interruptions, he goes through all the little hallways in this side of the hallway in a clockwise manner.
Layaali Twice-Born
Layaali follows him, helping out in the search.

We will fast-forward a bit.
The group spends the rest of the day unearthing the undercrypt of the abandoned monastery while hunting for any signs of other entry points. Plagued by Korum's wet cough, and more importantly, his pertinent questions, the gang is left with puzzlement as to how those that would bring down the Sarenrite monastic order entered the crypt tunnels.
Well after the mid-day meal in the dank dark of the undercrypt, Razif makes an interesting discovery in a side passage off of the southwestern arm of the undercrypt tombs. (I moved your icons to the site) The ranger finds, clutched in the arms of a fallen orange-robed monk, a small teak box emblazoned with the holy symbol of Sarenrae. Within the box lies a wooden holy symbol of Sarenrae suspended from a silver chain and a silver brooch. It takes little perception to determine that the brooch possesses arcane qualities.
Apart from this find, the remainder of the undercrypt yields no further answers, only more questions. Near the end of the day, Korum posits a theory.
"What if someone let the attackers in? What if the monastery was brought down by one of their own?" The implications rest uneasy over your heads.
Razif al-Akkuya
The day has been emotionally exhausted for Razif, who feels as though he would have felt right at home in this monastery during its peak.
He slumps down against a wall. "What a ghastly thought... Perhaps, yes, under the cover of night, a Sarenite let the intruders in, and brought them to the crypt through the hidden passage in the chapel. That way, they wouldn't have to go through the dormitory, which would probably get them caught immediately.
But then other questions remain, of course. Most importantly: why? Were they after something in the workroom at the end of the crypt? Were they after the staff? If it was about the staff, and there were a Sarenite helping them, surely they'd lead them to the courtyard instead...
So many questions." Razif sighs.
"Do you have any interesting insights?" He asks the others.
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid
"Perhaps some of the faithful guessed the traitor's intent and hid the staff?" Uzma conjectures. "Or perhaps there was some treasure, which they hoped to gain, and perhaps even succeeded in acquiring? Or perhaps this was all simply about killing the followers of Saint-Vardishal?"
"In any case," he continues, "there doesn't seem to be anything left here. Perhaps we should make sure the temple is safe, and then tend to the remains of the fallen?"
Korum Scratcher
Korum sits cross-legged, Jobu beside him, the broad shoulders of the half-orc wrapped in a thin blanket, which he clutches in front of him, shivering and coughing. "Uzma is right - there is not much here. We were given a task, not a research project. It is time, I fear, to tend to the Pugwampis upstairs."
Drael Kapernos
Shaking his head, Drael stares with concern at Korum, Certainly not today, perhaps some rest will help you. You are right though, I don't think that there is much else to find without dealing with those pests.
Layaali Twice-Born
"It's beautiful." Layaali remarks as she examines the necklace. "Any idea what it does, Korum?
Looking around at the dead littering the floor, and then her sick companion, Layaali seems lost in thought.
"The dead can wait another day... Let us return upstairs. Perhaps we can finish exploring the main level, but I agree with Drael. Korum needs tending before we attempt to engage the pugwampi again. And I am still weak from blood loss. We should attack come morning."
Theres a room or two left unexplored upstairs, isn't there?
Razif al-Akkuya
"Loathe as I am to admit it, you are right: we're not here to be historians. I agree with Layaali, let's explore the main room and go to sleep. Korum, you think you can handle that?"
Razif gets up.

Korum frowns, examining the piece of jewelry. "I'm afraid that I can only determine that it is magical in nature. Nothing more. Perhaps later, I can study it more closely." The wizard's eyelids droop as he speaks, nodding off without another word.
Layaali Twice-Born
"Yes, perhaps tomorrow you can..." Layaali pauses as Korum falls asleep, then smiles gently. "Poor thing's exhausted."
"Would anyone like to help me get him upstairs? I'm afraid I couldn't lift his leg in my state..." she admits.

The gang shuffle back upstairs through the mold-encrusted plant laboratory and back into the dormitory where they've been bunking down for the night. Prior to going to sleep, Layaali attempts to tend to the fungal disease that seems to be spreading along Korum's chest and chin.
I'll allow one other person to aid Layaali in her ministrations. I also need a watch order - 3 watches, 4 hour shifts each. Finally, yes, Layaali, there are two more rooms near the dormitory that you've not looked into (and one - the mess hall, that you've only glanced into.)
Razif al-Akkuya
Razif offers to take last watch, this time keeping in mind how much rest spellcasters need to regain their power.
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid
Having no knowledge of the healing arts, Uzma busies himself with preparing their camp for the night.
Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
"If no one objects, I would take the last watch," he proposes.

The heal skill can be made untrained. The modifier to the d20 roll would be your wisdom modifier. You would be the best suited to be Layaali's surgical assistant, Uzma. (Helpful GM!)

Layaali, you get a +2 to this Heal check. I'll assume that you'll take the first watch as well.
Layaali Twice-Born
Whoo! Nice roll, Uzma! Here's hoping I do as well...
Heal: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 2 = 16 Uzma's aid is included in that roll.
Layaali does her best to tend to Korum's disease, with Uzma being an invaluable assistant.
"You've a steady hand, Uzma. You would make a good medic."
She looks at Korum, curious if they have done enough to help him recover.
---
When it's time to rest, Layaali stays up to watch over the others, taking first watch.
Razif al-Akkuya
"You're still not back to full strength, Uzma. I'll take the last watch in your stead, so you can rest up."
I mean I know Uzma'll get his 8 hours anyway but still.

As Layaali prepares to wake Drael for the midnight shift, an almost impossibly loud, yelping howl comes echoing through the hills north of the monastery. As Layaali waits in shock, straining her ears, a faintly similar call can be heard in return.
The rest of the evening passes with little excitement. (Everyone heals 1 hp and 1 point of ability score damage)
Korum wakes up.
Layaali Twice-Born
Upon waking Drael, Layaali makes sure to tell him of the sound. Then she retires to rest, wary and exhausted.
As soon as she wakes in the morning, Layaali goes to check on Korum, hopeful that he is showing signs of recovery.

Korum sputters out another cough as he wakes in the morning, wiping the sleep from his eyes and sitting up from his bedroll.
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Assuming that succeeds, if not, I'll repost a different thing, where I commit ritual suicide for being infested with the Black Death.
He turns away from the camp, hacking loudly, a thick, gurgling noise as he coughs up the guck that had been inside his lungs and throat. He spits a thick wad of the substance onto the floor of the ruined temple, wiping his cheek with the back of his hand. After, he turns, sheepishly looking at his comrades.
"Forgive me. This was not well-mannered behavior. But I had to be rid of the foulness. I feel much better today. Thank you, Layaali and friend Uzma. You seem to have gotten me through the worst of it. I am in your debt."
Layaali Twice-Born
Layaali smiles kindly. "You are very welcome, Korum. But your debt is not to me. It is to Vildeis. You can repay him by continuing on your quest. Doing your part to combat the evils of this world are the only service he requires."
After a moment she finds a spot to sit in quiet prayer and contemplation for an hour.
An hour later, she stands, and readies her crossbow.
"I am prepared. There are rooms yet to cleanse nearby. Shall we?"
Starting with the mess hall we peeked into, guys?
Razif al-Akkuya
Razif readies his new scimitar.
"Yes, let's be off."
If anyone wants the silver dagger, just let me know and I'll throw it your way.
I'm definitely keeping the scimitar tho!

Korum feels much MUCH better this morning. The night's rest did most of the group a world of good.
Uzma prays to Gozreh. Within a few minutes, a familiar rattle sounds from just out in the hallway. The snake from yesterday has come back!
Razif al-Akkuya
Razif notices the snake as he stashes away his regular scimitar and jumps with a start.
Leaving the other scimitar behind to stay on light load mode.
"Y..you don't think it'll be mad at me for almost cleaving it in half, do you?"
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid
Animal Empathy DC 11 to improve Attitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Uzma kneels before the snake as it approaches to within striking distance. He reaches out with his open palms to demonstrate his good intentions. The venomous snake does not recoil. Rather, it seems befriended by the gesture.
"I am fairly certain that it has forgiven you," Uzma answers Razif with a smile, "but to be sure, perhaps keep you distance?"
Uzma smiles, and stands. The snake remains nearby, within feet of the druid, as he makes his way to the other entrance to the dining hall.

Layaali Twice-Born
Layaali readies her crossbow at the sound of the snake. As the beast slithers into sight she aims her crossbow at it, clearly intending to shoot before it further harms her companions.
Only to have Uzma get in the way! As Uzma interacts with the snake, then has it follow him like a trained pup--not the poisonous wild animal it is--Layaali raises her eyebrows.
Is he in his right mind..?
"Get back, Uzma, before it bites you. You've barely recovered from your last illness."
Layaali Twice-Born
"A snake that means no harm still has fangs." Layaali replies. "Why invite a viper into your company?"

GM roll: 1d100 ⇒ 82 SUCCESS! (2 hrs' effect)
Indeed, the snake, though clearly still wounded, does not seem to see Uzma as a threat or as prey. It follows Uzma along like a trained dog. When any other member of the gang gets close, however, the rattle on the desert viper starts to shake.
Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid
1 person marked this as a favorite.
"The pugwampi and the other foul creatures that have infested this temple are also threatening its nest," Uzma argues. "Gozreh calls upon all the creatures of the desert to defend His faithful."
Again, the sun-burnt druid proves himself ever difficult to understand: is he completely insane, or is his madness heaven-sent?.
Drael Kapernos
Drael's axe leaps to hand as the snake follows Uzma back to the group. Just because that thing likes you, doesn't mean it likes us. Are you confident that it won't attack any of us?
Layaali Twice-Born
Poor soul. The sun's gotten to him.
As the group moves on to the mess hall, Layaali keeps her crossbow aimed on the poisonous snake, clearly wary of it attacking her companions.
As she enters the mess hall she looks around quickly, then returns her gaze to the venomous snake...
Perception on Mess Hall: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Drael Kapernos
Drael follows Layaali, but refuses to turn his back on the snake, and keeps his blade ready for the slightest flicker of unexpected movement. If that thing even so much as smiles at me, it goes. Gozreh had better tell it to behave, if you're trusting him.
Razif al-Akkuya
Razif eases off on the snake when he sees both Drael and Layaali staring daggers at it. He joins Layaali into the mess hall and looks around as well.

Three long wooden tables and dozens of chairs that once lined this mess hall are in shambles, mostly rotted away with the passage of years. Light shines through several large holes in the ceiling, illuminating the door on the eastern wall (that you know leads to the bunk room).
Razif and Layaali find nothing of interest in this room.
Layaali Twice-Born
Finding nothing, Layaali cautiously follows Uzma into the next room.

Beyond this doorless arch appears to be a large kitchen complete with walls lined in shelves and cupboards, a huge central table, and an enormous stone oven against the north wall. Several drawers and cupboard doors stand askew, and the floor here is a jagged field of broken glass, smashed pottery, bits of sharp stone, jagged bones, and discarded cutlery, not to mention fresh gouts of blood. This room, as you both recall, was where the pugwampis and the hyena were holed up when you first explored this hall.
The entire room is difficult terrain.
Both Layaali and Uzma find nothing of interest in this room as well. The snake stays near Uzma, but slithers skilfully around the dangerous sharp things on the floor.
Razif al-Akkuya
"Nothing there either? Then let's explore the last room down here and then take care of the last stragglers."
Razif opens the last remaining door and walks in.

You've got two more rooms to explore, Razif. The one that you're in, and the one immediately to the north of the statue of Sarenrae.
Razif al-Akkuya
Ah, my bad. It's hard keeping track of what has and hasn't been visited when you jump in midway through the exploration
Razif looks around, and tries to open a book, only to have it crumble in his hands. Oops.
He pokes his head out the door and calls to the rest.
"There's a library here! Quite old, unfortunately, not sure if we can find anything good here, but be my guest! Maybe you'll be lucky and find a book that doesn't crumble to dust when you poke it."
