| Drael Kapernos |
Drael takes his time a bit more in destroyed room, maneuvering his way across the floor to look through the cupboards and looking for any sign of what led go this mess.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
GM Dinketry
|
Drael does not seem to find anything in the destroyed kitchen of interest, though he finds the remains of many different concoctions that the pugwampi apparently were preparing.
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Layaali leaves Drael, Uzma and the venemous snake behind in the kitchen and follows Razif into the library.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
GM Dinketry
|
Everything you examine, Layaali, seems to be crumbling and ruined.
| Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif looks up at the balcony and shrugs.
He mutters, "Just a second." and starts climbing up to the balcony.
Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
GM Dinketry
|
Razif climbs up to the balcony of the library, finding much the same disrepair and decay up there as down on the main floor.
| Layaali Twice-Born |
"A shame," Layaali remarks solemnly. "The knowledge that was lost here."
She stands and lets the crumbled remains of books left in her hands fall to the ground. She picks her crossbow back up and returns to the hall to wait for everyone to regroup.
| Razif al-Akkuya |
"Quite so. I'm sure a lot of this knowledge would have been very valuable."
Razif follows Layaali back into the hall.

Uzma, you're in a different room than everyone else. You're talking to the snake.
Drael continues searching through the ruined kitchen, obviously hungry and looking for something to munch on. Uzma has wandered into a different room, and you all can hear him talking to the snake that follows him. Korum, though healed, seems curiously blank and hasn't responded yet to the fact that there's a room full of books.
GM Dinketry

| Layaali Twice-Born |
Hearing Uzma speaking to the venomous snake that bit him only yesterday, Layaali looks uneasy. Oh, dear...
Seeing Korum so blank and silent, Layaali moves to check on him. "Are you alright?"
He seems healthy...
Lol.
GM Dinketry
|
Uzma, you, Drael, and Korum haven't looked inside the library.
It's at this point that the snake slithers away from the druid in departure.
| Drael Kapernos |
Drael moves past Layaali into the library, glancing over the aged and crumbling books in search of anything notable among the dust.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

The suli's eyes glaze over at the musty smell of worthless and crumbling paper but as he turns from the room, Uzma's eyes spy the glint of an intact spine amongst the rubble.
"Hang on," the snakeless druid mutters, heading for a pile of books on the ground.
The druid pulls out a red leather tome that does NOT crumble at the touch. In gilded letters on the cover, the title Courts of Stone and Flame suggests that not all knowledge and wisdom in this monastery has been lost.
| Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif moves back into the library. "You found something? Can I have a look?"
Appraise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Razif looks the book over.
"Looking at the state of the book compared to its age, this is a pretty good find. It'd net you about 250 gold, easily. Maybe 300."
| Layaali Twice-Born |
"It's beautiful," Layaali agrees. "What's it abut?"
| Korum Scratcher |
Korum finishes his somewhat heated debate with Jobu, slinging his pack over one shoulder and his axe over the other. He looks around to find the others gone already. "Damnation, I seem to have lost track of some time..." Swallowing hard, he departs after the others, and peeks into the library to catch up and look around.
He find himself lost in thought again as he gazes upon the library, staring in awe at the shelves. He snaps to his senses at Layaali's presence, resting his hand on her shoulder.
"My goodness, this place must have been a wonder...pardon me, Layaali. I seem to be more myself today, but perhaps prone to bouts of daydreaming."
GM Dinketry
|
Layaali, peering over Uzma's shoulder, is able to discern that the book appears to be a treatise on genies and genie-kind from the elemental planes. The book is a dense work, and would likely take at least a day to digest, though the benefits might be substantial.
| Razif al-Akkuya |
"Well, as much as I'd like to stand around in an old library, I think we should get going. Remind me again, what places are left?"
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Layaali smiles in relief. "Be safe, Korum."
---
"Only the shrine where the pugwampi lair, I believe." Layaali replies to Razif. "Though my eyesight is poor. I would not recommend taking my word on the matter."
| Razif al-Akkuya |
"Well then, off to the shrine we go, so we can take care of those nasty things once and for all. I haven't been, so please lead the way."
Razif draws his new scimitar, ready to finish emptying out the monastery. It won't revert the evils that have been done to this place, but it's a good first step to a possible restoration.
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Layaali leads the way to the chapel, then draw everyone close.
"If you've any preparations to make, Razif, now is the time."
Layaali prays to Vildeis, voice quiet, but firm, and places a hand on each of her companions in turn. Then she nods.
"Ready?"
Layaali's casting virtue on everyone right before heading into the chapel, granting 1 temp hp to each of them for 1 minute. First on herself, then Korum, Uzma, Drael and Razif.
| Razif al-Akkuya |
"On second thought..."
Razif switches out his scimitar with his bow, hoping to take some shots from afar before the fight heats up.
He then starts climbing up. "Let's dally no longer."
I'm unsure where you enter the map, so could someone else please move my pawn to somewhere appropriate?
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Oh! And before casting spells, Layaali ensures her crossbow is loaded and ready. She picks it up before entering.
| Drael Kapernos |
Sorry for not posting, I didn't realize that my account got logged out so I wasn't seeing when my campaigns had new posts to act on.
Drael draws his bow, checking the string to make sure that it was mended properly and will serve well in the upcoming battle.

Uzma, you don't find any spare daggers lying on the ground - if you have daggers, you can throw them.
The gang creeps up steadily on the chapel, the wide but shallow staircase down into the chapel the only thing separating them.
Perception DC 16: 1d6 ⇒ 4
You all have been buffed with Guidance and with Virtue. Are you ready to rumble?
| Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif would like to shoot at the first monster he sees as an opening gambit, if possible? If not, charge!
GM Dinketry
|
Oops. Screwed up my spoiler tag.
You'll need to move yourselves into the chapel proper on the map before you see anything specific.
| Layaali Twice-Born |
Layaali moves into the chapel, cautious and alert...
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
She gestures up into the rafters--for Razif's benefit--then points out the ladder to him (that snazzy arrow on the map!). As she moves towards the ladder she holds her crossbow in her hands.
GM Dinketry

For the benefit of Razif and to remind everyone else...
A short set of wide ceremonial steps leads down to a cavernous chapel in which the congregants would gather for sermons in happier times. The vibrant orange and red starburst of Sarenrae still stands behind a film of rusted rainwater and dirt along the north wall overlooking the collapsed altar. Between the stairs and the altar stand dozens of old marble benches, many overturned and even more broken into two or more pieces. A wide walkway bisects the pews, leading directly to the raised altar. Here and there a few clumps of the original red carpet along this thoroughfare hang on against rot and neglect.
Above the center of the chapel, dangling about ten feet from the floor, hangs a cluster of gnoll skulls in various stages of decay. Strung together like a ghoulish candelabra of twine and bone, the boulder-sized ornament hangs from the wooden rafters about twenty feet above the ground.
GM roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Both Uzma and Layaali sneak into the chapel and towards the ladder without seeming to raise any alarms.
Razif, Drael, and Korum - I'll need you to move your pawns into the chapel on the map, or nominate someone else to do it for you.
| Drael Kapernos |
Drael follows Uzma and Layaali towards the ladder, doing his best to keep an eye out for any attacks from above. He grimaces at the gnoll skulls, but moves past them without any further reaction.
| Korum Scratcher |
Korum takes a deep breath, mutters a silent prayer to himself, and follows behind Layaali, giving the woman a short, wan smile. "I am sure that we will succeed, today. I have faith." He half-whispers to her, watching the others congregate near the base of the ladder.

Nothing seems to impede the progress of the gang into the chapel and to the iron ladder rungs built in the wall.
You can 'Take 10' to climb the rungs of the ladder as long as you're not in combat, which you're not - for now.
| Razif al-Akkuya |
Razif climbs up the ladder first, prepared to take any potential assault head-on.
As suggested, Razif will take 10 on climbing the ladder.
Did I place my pawn in the upper area correctly?
GM Dinketry
|
Razif’s head crests the edge of the upper chapel, his arrival greeted with a shriek.
Razif, you’re still in the square of the top of the ladder - roll for initiative, everyone!
