Uzma, I'm assuming, in examining your character sheet, that your Gifted Adept trait applies to Summon Nature's Ally, making you caster level 2 for purposes of that spell. Otherwise, your summoned fire beetle would disappear at the end of this round, as opposed to the end of the next round (Spell duration is one round per level).
Is that correct?

The trait applies to Call Animal, which is why I described the Beetle's light as continuing to glow... So no more attacks for the beetle!

![]() |

But you used Summon Nature's Ally to bring the fire beetle, correct? Once the summoning spell ends, the summoned creature will disappear.

Uzma Mahdi Al Kalid |
That's right... Wasn't sure if it would disappear, or die, which I would obviously have preferred on account of the light... No light!
In this *light*, Uzma would have needed to prepare Light; and then cast it instead of performing a full move... Does that work?
Apologies for the confusion.

Korum, you also would need to make a concealment roll for firing a missile weapon from within your obscuring mist at a target. You're not immune to your obscuring mist, FYI.
It would require you successfully hitting their AC first.
*evil GM laugh*

Korum Scratcher |

While standing at the edge of the fog, I didn't think I incurred any sort of penalty. Granted, it only gives me a 20% concealment instead of the usual 50.
I didn't think I could even see them if I was anywhere inside the fog, thus, no acid splash.
Although all of this is moot, because their terrible misfortune nonsense is the literal worst.

Likewise, I'm running and coordinating games at PaizoConOz in Hobbiton for the next three days, though I'm available for some posts, like now.
Drael, I'll bot you as I'm able.
We finish our recruitment for two new souls in the next 4 hours. Our friend Rafyyk Halfmoon will be bowing out after (or because of) this current melee, so it'll still be a five person party.
Cheers, y'all.

Layaali Twice-Born |

Hey guys, I'll be playing Layaali, a self-sacrificing oracle of the empyreal lord Vildeis.
I'm very excited to be joining your group.
Thanks for having me!

Korum Scratcher |

Yes, welcome! I do so hope that we can handle this godforsaken two-month pugwampi fight with your help!
I can't wait for Korum to get decent. Level 1 is tough for a wizard without a crossbow. :D

Layaali Twice-Born |

Well, I regret to inform you I heard you were in need of a healer. Haha.
Although Layaali would happily hurl herself in the way of an incoming arrow for any of you crazy strangers, she's unlikely to actually slay something. However, I DO have a working (for now) crossbow to fire. Always a plus!
Let's hope she brings some luck to the battle.

Korum Scratcher |

Ha! Well, a healer is helpful, but these stupid little creatures are the literal worst. I hope she brings some luck, too!

Layaali Twice-Born |

Ahhh. I assumed the bone chandelier was in the middle, over the rubble. Got it! Thanks!

I had such a great time gaming with Tonya Woldridge, Jason Nelson of Legendary Games, Matt Goodall from Paizo Publishing, and Benjamin Loomes from Syrinscape this past weekend at PaizoConOz 2017. If you'd like to see why I've been MIA - check out our FB page at PaizoConOz 2017 for pictures of all the good times from the Green Dragon Inn in Hobbiton here in New Zealand!
Thanks for your patience. I am back with a vengeance (and questions answered from the source on Starfinder and Pathfinder!)

We will be welcoming one other player - a rogue - into our midst in the next few days. Again, thanks for your patience.
-Dink

Layaali Twice-Born |

That sounds AMAZING.
(And the rogue's good too!)
Is the rogue who I was travelling with to get here? Or was it my guide (Nafari)?

![]() |

Your guide - Nafari - has stayed behind at Lady Almah's camp, Layaali. Never fear; I'll be asking about Nafari for the future.

Layaali Twice-Born |

Oh, haha. You're welcome to do/make up whatever you like with Nafari and the other refugees I brought with me. I only mention it because I was curious who I travelled here with. In the PM you sent me you mentioned I was travelling with someone else who "excused himself to attend to 'personal business' " as I went into the chapel. I was just curious who it was. Is it the rogue, then? Or someone else Garavel sent with me?

![]() |

Sorry folks. More travel today. I’ll be spotty in the next 2 days for posts.
Thanks,
GM Dink

Osonia Glynmaer |

Hi, all.
Due to dealing with complications from the death of a friend, I'm afraid I can't post today. GM Dinketry, let me know when you'd like me to join in at the monastery. I should be able to post tomorrow.

![]() |

I’m sorry to hear of your loss. You can post your character’s intro to the monastery whenever it suits you. If you could email a PDF of your character sheet to me at we.be.dunedinpfs@gmail.com, that’d be great.

Oh, I thought I had! I'll send it again.

Love your backstory, Osonia!
Ditto.
Again, apologies for the spotty posts. I should be more regular now.

Korum Scratcher |

Ohhh, yeah, I like it too, Osonia!

Tassadan |

Dear friends,
I’m so sorry to let you down this way. My obsession with and addiction to online gaming has become something that is interfering with my professional and personal life. While this PBP campaign is certainly a low-commitment on its own, it’s one of many, and compounded with my binge-watching and binge-gaming is a symptom of a much larger problem that I have.
It’s because of all this that I’ve decided to greatly cut my media consumption. As such, I can no-longer adhere to posting here for my own physical and mental health. I sincerely hope you can understand, and I hope that my withdrawal does not hurt the campaign too badly.
Sincerely,
Tassadan

Layaali Twice-Born |

Sorry to hear that, all the best.

![]() |

Ok, folks. We're going to try to roll ahead with 4 players (and Rafyyk). I'll avoid re-recruiting for now.
Layaali, the desert's heat must have gotten to your head, because you could've sworn that there was someone with you along the way, but since you've been inside the cool interior of the ruined monastery, that presence has faded away.

"A vision from Vildeis, no doubt. Some poor righteous soul who gave her life that others might live. May the Cardinal Martyr embrace her in the afterlife."

Uzma, your actions in this slog-fest have been wonderfully creative, and I keep on punishing you with irritatingly-accurate arrows.
I apologise for the whims of Fate.

Layaali Twice-Born |

@ GM - Never give up! Never surrender! lol Of course, I just joined. I'm good. Besides, you're not supposed to TRY to put us in checkmate. You're supposed to give us a hell of a time while we battle to emerge victorious! Emphasis on victorious... Haha.
@ Uzma
If we don't want to head back in right now I think we should check out the rest of the chapel. You've only been in the first two rooms, right? We might find a strong ladder, or some rope, or acid vials, or some new bows, or maybe a big pole we can use to jab at them or to make a bridge with. Something to shake things up.
Layaali's only just joined, so I'm fine going back in to try again, but I know you guys have done that already. I'd highly suggest checking the rest of the place out and coming back here later.
And if the pugwampi decide to come down and ambush us from behind, AWESOME. They came down. So it's not like we need to be really worried about that...

Drael Kapernos |

Yeah I agree a lot with that. I joined the game before you did, but I also joined after they'd begun engaging with the pugwampis, so this has been going on for quite awhile and really doesn't seem like the most productive option if there are ways for us to explore areas that aren't within arrow range from the rafters.
Also, just a heads up that I'll be out of town from tomorrow-Sunday, so please bot me as needed.

![]() |

I have to take a break and crow a little bit.
Tonya W recently wrote up a column on where I was about a month ago. Please have a look-see and see if you can spot me in the green V-L shirt! (I used to be a V-L)
-Paul

Korum Scratcher |

I am, yes! Weekends are often a bit manic for me, especially around the holidays, but I'm still here, and now awaiting my turn against things that are (thankfully) NOT Pugwampis!

You make an interesting point that I had not noticed before about ability damage vs drain, Korum, but further on down the page in the link you provided, there's this:
Damage to your Constitution score causes you to take penalties on your Fortitude saving throws. In addition, multiply your total Hit Dice by this penalty and subtract that amount from your current and total hit points. Lost hit points are restored when the damage to your Constitution is healed. A character with a Constitution score of 0 is dead.
You took 1 point of CON dmg. Your HD is 1. 1x1 = 1 hp lost from your current and total hp.
That also means that Layaali is at 5/5 hp, not 7/7 hp, as she has lost 5 points of CON dmg.

Layaali Twice-Born |

Ouch. I always just calculated based on the new CON score. This is unfortunate. lol

Korum Scratcher |

Above that, it reads:
For every 2 points of damage you take to a single ability, apply a -1 penalty to skills and statistics listed with the relevant ability.
If you'd like to rule that the "Damage to your Constitution" paragraph is independent of the explanation above it, describing the 2 damage = -1 penalty, that's up to you. I'm happy to abide by GM fiat, but will *absolutely* be making Korum into someone that goes hard on Constitution damage in whatever way possible if that's the case, since, by your interpretation, 1 Con damage = -1 HP/HD instead of 2 damage = -1 penalty = -1 HP/Fort Saves. This will make Bestow Curse effectively doubly effective.

The "this penalty" referred to in the paragraph you read is referring to the penalty of -1 for every 2 points of damage, not the ability damage itself.
I hate to belabor the point, I would just like to know so that I can plan accordingly. Have you come to a decision/researched this at all, GM?
