Grey, the Lady's dog |
Question: Creatures who have Telepathy, such as most Demons, if they don't understand/speak a language, do they still understand someone who is thinking in that language?
Or is that one of those 'You will find out by finding out' kinds of questions?
I ask because Grey, being a Halfling, thinks in Halfling, for the most part, except when he has nightmares in Gnome, or has to work out an arcane calculation in Celestial, etc...
Wie is die kerel?
Duidelijk iets betekent dat hij naar haar, maar wat?
Grey looks at the chained new arrival suspiciously, his brow arching inquisitively as he turns his gaze up to Celes.
Obviously he means something to her, but what?
Professor Quinto Addermire |
At the same time Nadezdha turns to Professor Q. What if I told you I could give you that method? The ultimate method. Better than the scientific method. A method that would spit out truth like the mouth of a god? Would you not be interested in the least?
"Oh please, now you're simply throwing my own suggestions back at me. It's a little sad, frankly."
Grey, the Lady's dog |
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20, finally 'gets' what Nadezdha is...
Grey's expression clears as something resembling complete comprehension dawns. "Eh professor, she's a soul corrupted by lust, shackled to effectively the sinkhole of existence...
She's not gonna be that creative a thinker." Musing, he adds. "Powerful, yes. Creative, not so much..."
Eugh, en ik bijna raakte haar...
Ik heb een bad...
I need a bath...
Nadezdha |
"Oh please, now you're simply throwing my own suggestions back at me. It's a little sad, frankly."
Watch your tone, human. You were wrong about life on other worlds, why do you think you might not be wrong about what I have to offer? We are all wrong, you know. We are all wrong half the time.
Grey, the Lady's dog |
Int: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Snorting derisively, "Lady, I'm wrong plenty, the world en't ended yet."
"Don't mean I'm stupid enough to take your offer. Don't mean any of them are either..." As he points to the others.
Nadezdha |
*Eye roll, look at Grey, Growwwl* I'm seriously considering killing you...again.
Figit Pattal |
"Seamus, is...is that really you?" Figit asks in a shaking voice, her hand rising to touch his luscious red beard. As her trembling hand touches his hair, memories long forgotten rushed back to her. Late nights studying together at the university. Testing out the brews some humans dare call ale. Discovering hidden meaning of philosophers while exploring visions from druid mushrooms. Realizing that their feelings weren't platonic. Years of bliss before his family's business dragged him back underground, away from the sun. Away from her. Her hand pushes past the thick beard to get touch his chest. Still as broad as twenty years ago is the only thought Figit's blank mind could come up with. Ignoring the word games being bandied around, she asks "Seamus Stoneanvil, is that really you?"
Seamus is a dwarf, in case that wasn't clear
Celes Sontiri |
"Everyone calm down!" Celes exclaims as it seems like this is going against them. Argonia she just grabs and pull closer as she shakes her head at Grey. "Dibs, she's following me, not you. We have a baby together now, haven't you seen?" It was a joke, though all the same to prove her point she motions to the child as she playfully lays her head on her shoulder. "And isn't it just a sweet little thing? Not screaming and minding itself? Not getting in my way?"
Though that would soon all come to an end as the succubus went ahead and did the worst, summoning... Him. Celes's whited out pupils would almost shrink in their sockets as she immediately stiffened back up. She would barely hear her, the woman offering her services. In fact, she didn't understand her at all, the only common word she knew at that point was...
"Jordain...,"
Before she immediately went quiet, submissive even as she began to shrink back into the crowd as best she could. Even going so far as leaving Argonia unattended as she tried to keep out of view.
Professor Quinto Addermire |
Int: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
The professor just shakes his head at the sad, sad succubus.
"While it is not beyond imagining that one could read a person's mind, find an individual they have some past connection to, and accomplish the rather astounding feat of transporting them over such vast distances on a whim, to do so would involve no small amount of magical power, and would, I suspect, be far beyond the power of a demon... or at the very least, a demon with such power would be quite impossible to force into one's service in the manner this creature has. Now true, a genie's ability to grant wishes could likely accomplish such, but in that eventuality, a formal request would have to have been made, and it is my further understanding that a genie can only grant so many wishes in a given day, not to be wasted on the sales pitch when they could be saved for the sale. Perhaps more importantly, if I were to be summoned forth from my usual day to day life in such a manner as this, I suspect I would be far, far more alarmed than these, presumably illusory, gentlemen."
Twirling his cane about as he continues, the professor adds, "More important still, as we are here for no reason other than to end this plan of making war on our world and enslaving half the populace, this is hardly a place to which any of us should wish anyone to be summoned."
Elai C'tara |
"Enough games, the Professor has the right of it and your parlour tricks are irritating at best." Elai pushes her mind onto Celes, trying to make her see the man as a crude pathetic goblin, instead of... whoever he was. False Sensory Input - Celes DC17 to resist, if you wish.
Vanna Barahal |
Vanna started to tune out professor half way through his speech. She didn't know him well, but got the feeling this will happen a lot. She noticed Celes back down from the one guy with chains that was summoned. Such power to summon someone like that, instantly. She grew up with magic instructors so she recognized the power being used. Keeping an eye on the man, if he tries anything...
"Right! Get to the point. Look, if we need to pair up to end this thing, then " She rings Victor's arm. "looks like you are free Victor."
Then she whispers to Victor "This is just for the test though, don't be getting any ideas."
Victor Jankowski, Private Eye |
Vanna, I know you mean well, but this, it's just not right.
I hold my hands out to my sides with my palms up, and say...
Look, lady. It's like this. This little sing-a-long is over. I'm not paired up with any of these dames. Not that they aren't special, each and everyone of them, they got moxie, yeah, they're something alright. I'm not gonna lie, not like this. That's just not my style. See, this test of yours, faithfulness. See, faithfulness comes from trust, and that's something you can't fake, you can't force. It's got to be earned, it's got to be given with an open heart. When you love somebody, you put that out there. So whatever it is that got you, me, and the rest of these dames dragged into this has gone on long enough. Do your worse, cause in a game like this, baby, you can't win. If you want to test faithfulness, you're gonna have to look inside yourself, 'cause I'm not playing along anymore. What's it gonna be doll?
Celes Sontiri |
Yeah, it is a will save unfortunately. Given it is not harmless by any stretch, tp manipulate someones senses.
Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
While backing out, the sudden appearance of a goblin does seem to begin to rouse her suspicions. She stops trying to back away, but her guard remains up. Quiet, and unwilling to accept that he was gone. He hardly ever was once he appeared again.
Grey, the Lady's dog |
Celes reaction to the chained 'present' is all too familiar to Grey.
Oh.
Ze was er ook een.
Though his eyes glaze, slightly at the Professor's words, Grey still manages to track & agree with the overall intent, it's not until Victor begins his shpeil that Grey's patience is truly tested.
"Victor! Desna weeps, man! Stop talking, it's just a dance, not the whole party!"
Turning once more to Nadezdha, Grey sneers, his resemblance to a human child all but gone. "If that's the best threat you've got 'lady', you've already lost & we both know it." Pointing to the Professor & Figit, "You've made your offer, they rejected it. They passed! Now put up or shut up." Crossing his arms defiantly, his expression smooths from one of disdain to placid superiority.
A superiority belied by a nervous, flickering, glance toward Celes.
She was one too.
Nadezdha |
Best role playing of the game so far. Nice work folks.
The red bearded dwarf says nothing, just begins to sob and throw his arms around Figit. He has missed her like the flowers miss spring. I know, I'm a second rate poet. Shoot me.
Turning to Grey It would appear you are each remaining faithful despite my best temptations. But I have one more for you. If you still feel that your past-first-love's renewals (Figit), death of dread enemies (Celes), and knowledge of the Cosmos (Professor) are not worth your friendships than I will snap my fingers and you will pass to the third test. But first, I have on final temptation. How would you like it if I transported all of you to the the location of Arael Stardust? If you killed her right now you would end the threat to your world and be heros. And the only price would be a little dislike for eachother from here on out. How is this not a fair deal? Victor? Vanna? Celes? Grey? Professor? Figit? What do you all say? Shall I send you to the third test, or give you the ultimate surprise attack on your nemesis?
Paige Nightsong |
Celes, get these chains off me, women! Where the leapord skins have you been? Do you have any idea what I've had to go through explaining your absence to your clients? Come here! Guess Celes sees a goblin talking. But does she here his voice?
Grey, the Lady's dog |
Eyes widening slightly, Grey prudently refrains from commenting when Nadezdha calls her ploys 'best'. He does cough briefly at her follow up offer...
But this time he holds his tongue in case the others are tempted.
Once Celes' 'Master' speaks, the two of them hold Grey's full attention.
Vanna Barahal |
Directed at Nadezdha. "Honestly, I bet she will come to us after some time. And if the whole world here feels the same way she does, then killing her might not solve the problem. Send us to this third test."
Celes Sontiri |
Well it was a good attempt at hiding. She had done her best to stay back and out of his view, or a goblins view. But then she was told to come here , and in no idle way. It was a command, and she knew better than to be dismayed. She would gasp and almost immediately begin to step forward. Her hands quietly resting down on her lap as she came forward, though, given the fact that all she could see was a goblin made her all the more worse for wear. She would look around for him, almost frantic, like her life depended on it. Hell, it did.
Paige Nightsong |
Who are all these people? And where have you been? Did you put these chains on me? Take-em off, whore! Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 The pimp is facing you guys. He is not aware of the creatures behind him. One minute he was barking orders to a pair of too-young twin girls that work for him. the next he's here all chained up. He's pissed. Nadezdha smiles and crosses her arms. She will surely be amused at what happens next.
Grey, the Lady's dog |
Almost glaring at the blue-tressed woman, Grey notes the instant she shifts from contemplation to acquiescence. Snarling out in a tongue far more feral than any the rest of you have heard before, he calls forth a handful of oddly luminescent wolfs between Celes & her 'Master'.
"I'd say she's fine just as & where she is...
Something tells me you're no more in control of the situation than any of the rest of us," As Grey focuses his own attentions directly on the bound man before him. "So you might want to consider a less...
irritating tone & manner."
Standard action: use Summon Monster III SLA to summon: 1d3 ⇒ 3 Celestial Wolves.
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28, to 'push' the wolves to keep Celes separate from 'Lion-Blade'.
Paige Nightsong |
Celes' pimp rolls his eyes. Not this again. Damit Celes we go through this every few months. You find a client you think has the chops, he tries to one up me, and you leave with him for a few days. But you always come back. You always come back because only I have what you want. We both know it, don't we? So have your "friend" here call off his lap dogs. Why does Celes keep coming back? Does he have her drugs? Mabe Cele's 3 year old daughter? Where is this foo's psycological hook in her?? GM Knowledge(players): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Professor Quinto Addermire |
"'Nemesis' is a bit strong of a term. I'm certain we'll run across her in good time on our own, and I'd just as soon not have any magically enforced strife distracting everyone from properly dealing with her at the time thank you."
Grey, the Lady's dog |
"So you're deaf as well as stupid, is that it?" Grey snaps back before anyone else has an opportunity to answer. "Look behind you," pointing to Nadezdha. "She has more control here than either you or I & to be painfully honest, even her grip is tenuous at best..."
Offhandedly, he adds to the professor's comment. "I'm not certain I'd notice, truth be told. It's not as if any of you are my boon companions..."
Figit Pattal |
As Seamus holds Figit to his weeping form, her trembling arms slowly rise to embrace her dwarf. Her mind blanks as his sobs echo in her ear. He tightens his arms around her. It feels right, it feels like a dream come true, it feels like...what the hells is digging into her back? Figit pulls herself out of the embrace and looks at his right hand. "Why are you wearing a wedding ring?" she asks voice as sharp as a blade.
Grey, the Lady's dog |
Was this Lion-Blade guy speaking Taldane (Common) or Lashunta?
Nadezdha |
Was this Lion-Blade guy speaking Taldane (Common) or Lashunta?[/spoiler][ooc] Common. He's much too much of a scum back to even know another language. can't wait to see how Celes handles this.
To Celes: How about it, girl. I'm sure this is worth a friendship or two. You won't be missing much. I can see you have done just fine without friendship in your life. Kill him. Take my offer.
Paige Nightsong |
The pimp turns around to see the succubus of all succubi yes, I am geeky enough to know how to pluralize that word:( sitting on the throne flanked by beautiful Djinni. His knees begin to knock and warm urine begins to run down his leg.
celes, I know you wanna post tonight...you are too hot to be working on a Sunday night. Even if you are British...
Celes Sontiri |
Oh! Let's do baby! That sounds drama-tastic! I was just going to say she never leaves him alone and tortured to the point of a psychological break down to where she just bows to him. But let's do baby instead!
Celes was at a loss to what exactly what was going on anymore. She was looking at this... Goblin, and it wasn't him, but his voice was something she grew to fear, and hate. She watched a long time, not sure what to say, or even what she was supposed to do. The confusion and fear combined had brought enough stress that she forgot herself, and her curse took its toll on her, soon she understood nothing. They were speaking words she could not fathom.
Regardless she was at his will, even before Nadezdha, she could hear him, and instinct said to step forward, but Grey made short work of that, one step and suddenly wolves were in front of her, she jumped back all the same like it was a trick, she snapped to Grey a moment in a moment as he spoke to him. She couldn't understand him, but she was able to piece together that he was trying to defend her. She shook her head, moving to grab his shoulder and push him away. Then Elai was speaking to her, again, her face spoke volumes about her comprehension about anything that was going on as she sucked in a breath, and held it. It was all she had at this point. To hold her breath, and not let it go until the situation resolved itself, or she suffocated. Either way, she felt it would be a win.
So she will stand there, quiet, and unwilling to speak. No doubt trying to make sure nothing else happens to Jordain, but also trying to find a way to not to betray these people who have taken her here.
In her mind, yeah, she would rather he be let go and made to forget this ever happened. Mostly she just wants all this to go away, it isn't fun and games anymore.
Vanna Barahal |
Vanna is trying to comprehend the scene in front of her. On one side, a terrified man in chains is being warded off by several people, while Figit is weeping in the arms of a dwarf. All in front of a demon with a pair of djinni. She had seen many things since she left home, but this was off the charts bizarre. Vanna knew that Nadezdha was tempting them, and it was a personal battle for them. Even so, seeing Figit so happy at the sight of this dwarf. Must be hard to turn it down.
Then Nadezdha tempts Celes into killing the man. "Celes, you aren't a killer like that. If he was a problem in your past, you are beyond it now. Plus, if he tries anything with us around. Count on us at least to back you up."
Professor Quinto Addermire |
Nadezdha |
Enough. Nadezdha snaps her fingers. The temptations disappear. Jordain Lion-Blade is gone. The dwarf is gone. [b]Faithfulness like that which you all possess is quite rare. You are not like the others who have visited me in this place. I daresay we shall meet again one day.
Grey, the Lady's dog |
"Please, let's not." Grey snarls as he awaits the next shoe dropping.
Nixie |
I decided to try a "rougelike" post for this. Let me know if this is a cool way to pbp or just annoying. Nixie loves feedback!

Victor Jankowski, Private Eye |
I don't suppose there is any other real choice in the matter. We've got to take this to this Stardust woman, and try our best to put an end to her plans. You know, I'd like to think she can be reasoned with, but it sure seems like she knows she has the upper hand. I guess it's do or die. I just wish I could have gotten to you you all better, you know, before all this happened. Good luck.
Victor Jankowski, Private Eye |
You're probably right. They can do it without me. Seems like fighting wasn't anything I was ever meant to be good at, but you see doll, I just can't. If they go down, I'm going down with them, and if they win, hm, well, if we win. I just might take you up on that offer.
Nixie's NPC |
I...I understand. Listen, I'm taking the baby through the portal to the Sea of Mists. Victor, not many pass these trials. If you...survive...use this. It has one use left. Mabe you will use it to find us, the baby and me. Argonia hands Victor a small technological sphere. It functions as a ring of Locate Creature, there is 1 charge
Argonia smiles sweetly. You would all be welcome at my home. If I ever see you again. Goodbye everyone.
Then she jumps in the portal to the Sea of Mists and is gone.
