Tannan Valdri |
Surprise Round, move action to AE-36 and free action to shout.
Tannan tries his best to stay awake, but his eye droop for a moment, and in the moment the worst thing happens. As he sees the enemy break through, he shouts so everyone can hear him.
Enemy attack, Everyone get the HELL up
Round 1: move to flank skeleton and stabby stabby
Tannan moves around the table, and takes a stab at the skeleton trying to kill them.
dagger with flank: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
sneak: 2d8 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Ulrich of Ravensmount |
Ulrich drags himself to his feet, fumbling for his sword and shield.
I'm assuming getting up and getting both my shield and sword ready is my full action for round 1?
Araden the Wanderer |
Araden grunts as the skeleton slashes his arm, having just awoken. He grabs his morningstar and swings from the ground, hoping to fend the skeleton off long enough to arise. I'm assuming that we've slept long enough to regain hit points or something, because otherwise even 6 damage puts Araden in the negatives. Also assuming that by the same token he's lost his Champion Spirit benefits for the time being--I know we decided my default Influence is 1, but it'd feel wrong never losing the benefits until I seance a different spirit. And, finally, I'd guess Araden isn't in his armor right now.

Surprise Round
Tannan shouts a warning to others, even though at that point they had already woken up to the sound of banging on the door.
Round 1
Whatever is behind the door, it continues to batter the door. Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Some splinters fly from the door and its fortifications, but it should last at while before anything breaks in.
Kekkle stands up and creates a mind blade.
The killer skeleton sees Araden reaching for a blunt weapon, and attacks him.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Damage plus sneak attack: 1d4 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (4, 1) = 9
Araden stops moving, having fallen unconscious.
Tannan moves around the table, and takes a stab at the skeleton trying to kill them. He finds his dagger ineffectual against the skeleton. (Miss.)
Pahleg stands up, grabbing his spear.
Ulrich likewise gets up and grabs his stuff. (Hm, sure you can grab your sword and shield (usually only one per move action, right?), but you're only holding your shield right now: putting it on is a move action.)
Araden
(1. You've rested about 3-4 hours now and regaining hit points requires 8 hours of rest, which means you haven't regained hit points yet; I haven't kept track of your damage but if you assumed that you had regained those 3 hit points, the 6 damage puts you at 0 hp, right? Coupled with that 9 damage, you're at -9?)
(2. I'm not that familiar with the rules of medium spirit, but yes it would make sense to lose the spirit's effects while sleeping for that long.)
(3. Yes, it's reasonable to assume that you sleep with your (heavy) armor off. The common practice of having a so-called "battle pajamas", ie. chain shirt or some other light armor, is also not the case here because your party hasn't made such purchases.)
is unconscious.
Round 2
The battering continues. Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 The door holds the enemy off quite well, and shows no signs of breaking any time soon.
(What I said to Araden applies to all of you: if you weren't wearing light armor and don't have the Endurance feat we assume you slept with your armor off.)
Ulrich of Ravensmount |
I should have remembered that I have Endurance and Diehard as feats, especially in the last fight. Sorry! Can we assume I slept in my breastplate? No problem if no, since I didn't specify.
Ulrich brings his shield into position and strikes at the mighty skeleton.
Longsword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 191d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
GM MG |
I should have remembered that I have Endurance and Diehard as feats, especially in the last fight. Sorry! Can we assume I slept in my breastplate? No problem if no, since I didn't specify.
(Oh yeah, you have those feats. Huh. We can both facepalm now. And sure, you slept in your breastplate because it didn't bother you.)
Araden the Wanderer |
Alright, cool, that's all pretty much as I figured. So actually Araden would have taken -1 from that attack if he was at 0, so he probably would have just balled up on the ground, probably taken total defense, but that wouldn't have helped so he's at -9 now.
Staying Alive: 1d20 + 2 - 9 ⇒ (3) + 2 - 9 = -4 Urk
Ulrich of Ravensmount |
Kekkle advances into the fray, slashing with his mindblade scimitar. Move to AG39

Round 2
Kekkle (I think the attack bonus is +5: +3 from Dex, +2 from weapon enhancement) advanced into the fray, slashing a skeleton with his mindblade scimitar. He cuts into the bones, but seems to have left no damage to them. (Well you probably know about the DR.)
The skeletal assassin (T,A,K,U: 1d4 ⇒ 1) did not like Tannan's backstab attempt, and slashes him with its dagger.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Tannan evades the slash.
Tannan tries the same trick again, using the flank on his advantage. Unfortunately the enemy has tough bones and armor, and is quite evasive.
Pahleg channels healing energy to everyone. (Araden at -1hp)
Ulrich brings his shield into position and strikes at the mighty skeleton. He hacks off some bones, damaging the undead, but that seems a bit ineffective. (DRRR!)
Araden is unconscious.
Round 3
Whatever is behind that door wants in by force. Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Fortunately, the door holds them off.
Kekkle Smoughbon |
"We don't have time for this foolery! I'll blast you to bits if I have to."
Casting Shocking Grasp
Spellstrike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 Attack bonus is actually +7 (+3 DEX, +2 mindblade, +2 BAB) and another +3 from shocking grasp since the skeleton is wielding a metal weapon.
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Shocking Grasp: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5) = 13
Tannan Valdri |
Tannan, tries to punch at the skeleton with his cestus, hoping the bludgeoning does more damage to the brittle bones.
cestus: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 2 = 13
damage: 1d4 + 1 + 2d4 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (4, 2) = 11
Tannan, moves to get a better angle at who or whatever is coming in through the barricaded door. He gets ready to throw a dagger at whatever is on the other side should the barricade fail.
Move to AH 41

AC 15 until next round.
Ulrich of Ravensmount |
Araden is at -1 hp and unconscious. I also don't know what spells Pahleg cast (I think all of them) and he only has piercing weapons.
Pahleg dashes over to Araden's fallen form and pulls out the medium's lesser estus flask.
Move action to Araden and pulling out one of his lesser estus. I don't think he can use it on him until next round.

Round 3
Kekkle's scimitar made of psychic energy slashes at the skeletal killer, delivering a shock of electricity. The scimitar seems to have left no scratch, but that is more than compensated by the impact the electricity had.
The killer skeleton turns its attention to Kekkle. Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Its dagger grazes the scarecrow.
Tannan drops his knife and instead uses his cestus to punch the skeleton. It seems he hasn't gotten quite used to them, and delivers a lousy punch. (Miss.)
Pahleg hurries over to Araden's fallen form and pulls out the medium's lesser Estus flask.
Ulrich bashes the skeleton with his shield, knocking off some bones. (+2 from flank, right?)
Araden is unconscious.
Round 4
The battering continues. Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 The door holds, but for how long?
Ulrich of Ravensmount |
Ulrich bashes the skeleton again!
"We are trying to sleep!!"
Shield Bash!: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 201d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Kekkle Smoughbon |
"WHO IS AT THE DAMNED DOOR!" shouts Kekkle, frustrated, as he blasts the skeleton a second time.
Activating my Cross-Discipline bonus to boost CL of Shocking Grasp. Last 1st level of the day until we get to rest...

Ulrich of Ravensmount |
Ulrich takes up a position next to the barricaded door, waiting for the blockade to fall.

Round 4
Tannan places himself near the door, and prepares to throw a dagger if or when the enemy busts through the door.
Pahleg administers Araden's healing flask to him. (I understand this is a full-round action.) CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 (Whoa. Araden's at 8 hp now.) Some of Araden's many wounds disappear, and he regains consciousness.
Ulrich goes to the side of the door opposite to Tannan, waiting for the blockade to fall.
(Araden's action goes here; go ahead and post actions.)
Round 5
Something wants in really badly, else they would have given up by now. Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 A big crash causes some parts of the door to crack and the table to move a tiny bit. The blockade might not hold that long any more.
Kekkle stands away from the door. He's low on magical and psychic resources, clearly, after the long day.
Araden the Wanderer |
As he comes to once more, Araden heaves a breath and pushes himself to a sitting position. This sensation is far different from when he first awoke in the labyrinth, or when he returned to life after the boss fight, but welcome nonetheless. With a nod of thanks to Ulrich, the ghoulish-looking man grabs his morningstar and rises to his feet, ready to face whatever monstrosity is coming through the door.
Ulrich of Ravensmount |
Ulrich remains ready, waiting for the barricade to fall.
"My flask is here, if any of you want to grab it."
Araden the Wanderer |
Araden steps to stand in line with Ulrich and grips his morningstar in both hands, ready to strike. "Better to save it lest one of us falls." Readying an attack against the creature once it enters/comes within attack range, I'll roll if/when that happens.
Ulrich of Ravensmount |
Tannan holds his readied dagger.
I think we're set for when this thing breaks down the barricade. Unless we just want to push the desk aside and let it in.

Ulrich remains ready, waiting for the barricade to fall.
Araden steps to stand in line with Ulrich and grips his morningstar in both hands, ready to strike.
Round 6
Damage to door: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 Another big crash, and the door breaks some more. The party now sees what is breaking the barricade: a blunt metal object, possibly a mace.
...
Round 7
Knock knock. Who's there? Otto. Otto who?: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 The door holds for a few more seconds, and is just about to come apart.
...
Round 8
Otto know, I have amnesia: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 One last crash, and the barricare falls apart, and the door is kicked open. Behind are two skeletons; one is a little bulkier than the other and holding a mace.
(Usually we have the principle of making the rolls when stuff happens (as we agreed in some earlier fight that I cannot remember now), but because basically all of you are readying an attack it's better to use the pre-rolled attacks.)
Araden's Morningstar Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Immediately the party does a counter-attack on the skeleton enemies, giving the skeletal door-wrecker a good beating. (You guys did about 70-80% damage of the enemy's hp. Let's speed this up...)
It won't take long until the battle ends. The skeleton enemies got a few hits on the party...
Araden/Kekkle/Pahleg/Tannan/Ulrich: 3d5 ⇒ (2, 2, 2) = 6 (Kekkle, Kekkle, Kekkle. Kek.)
Damage1: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Damage2: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Damage3: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
(Kekkle takes 13 damage.)
...or rather, just Kekkle. Then, finally, the party defeats them, and silence reigns once more when the skeletons crumble to dust.
Combat over.
Obtained 65 souls.
The skeletons left behind some things like basic weapons and armor, but more importantly the party can now go back to sleep.
Ulrich of Ravensmount |
Ulrich just kicks some of the detritus back into the doorway, piling it up and throwing some more into the hallway in the hopes it will make noise if any more interlopers arrive.
Craft: 1d20 ⇒ 14
"I will sleep behind the doorway- my armor will clatter if they trip over me."
GM MG |
While the resident healer Pahleg is doing damage control by channeling divine energy to the wounded, Ulrich and Araden reassemble the fortifications to the best of their ability.
(...In case you're starting to catch on to something: no, this was not a GM blunder: the skeletons, though undead creatures, faded to ashes and dust after being destroyed. The last two times you fought and destroyed skeletons they also first fell apart and then faded to ashes and dust. Some bones were left over, but don't read too hard into that: the important thing is that the skeletons you've fought here also turn to ashes and dust when destroyed.)
The party settles to rest for the second time, this time Ulrich sleeping behind the door so that if attacked his armor would make noise.
Some good 9 hours pass, and the final watch ends. The party has rested. The resting time had been uneventful, except for the occasional screams and sobs that echoed in the building.
Ulrich of Ravensmount |
Ulrich rises, face set in his perpetual frown.
"That could have been a better night."
He picks up one of the disintegrated skeleton's maces and tucks it into his belt.
"With the mindflayer slain, perhaps we should take a detour to the other cell block- or is it better to engage the fog wall while we're as fresh as we're going to get."
Was this enough to recover ability score damage from the fog?
GM MG |
(A night of rest (8 hours) heals 1 ability damage, right? Any left over ability damage will need a lesser restoration.)
Heavy Mace
A blunt weapon that uses a heavy head to deliver powerful blows. Larger than the light mace.Standard heavy mace. Worth 1 souls.
A weapon for men-at-arms who expected to face heavily armored foes. Ever since the Miracle it has found other common uses as well.
Chain Shirt
A shirt that covers the torso, made up of thousands of interlocked metal rings. A testament of time and dedication, it is.Standard chain shirt. Worth 15 souls.
The finest of the lightest armor. Typically armor this light only benefits those who expect little physical harm, and as such is an uncommon choice for a warrior.
Araden the Wanderer |
Araden spends some time in the morning channeling his spirits, preparing for the day, and then he dons the plate armor the group found the previous day. "I mislike the memories it brings to mind, but it is a fine defense," he intones, pulling his helmet on atop the breastplate once more. "Knight or no, I'd rather escape this place with fewer wounds."
When Ulrich suggests possible paths, Araden nods at the second. "It seems any hope of our escape lies beyond the fog walls, so I should think we might wish to take any good chance to explore there. Of course, I think we also might return to a merchant to sell some of our unused equipment."
Pahleg |
Natural Healing
With a full night’s rest (8 hours of sleep or more), you recover 1 hit point per character level. Any significant interruption during your rest prevents you from healing that night. If you undergo complete bed rest for an entire day and night, you recover twice your character level in hit points.
Healing Ability Damage
Ability damage is temporary, just as hit point damage is. Ability damage returns at the rate of 1 point per night of rest (8 hours) for each affected ability score. Complete bed rest restores 2 points per day (24 hours) for each affected ability score.
Provide Long-Term Care
Providing long-term care means treating a wounded person for a day or more. If your Heal check is successful, the patient recovers hit points or ability score points (lost to ability damage) at twice the normal rate: 2 hit points per level for a full 8 hours of rest in a day, or 4 hit points per level for each full day of complete rest; 2 ability score points for a full 8 hours of rest in a day, or 4 ability score points for each full day of complete rest. You can tend as many as six patients at a time. You need a few items and supplies (bandages, salves, and so on) that are easy to come by in settled lands. Giving long-term care counts as light activity for the healer. You cannot give long-term care to yourself.
Yeah if we can get a healer's kit or at least some basic supplies, I can provide long-term care to significantly increase our natural healing.
Ulrich of Ravensmount |
Ulrich looks at the armor with disdain.
"It does not become you, Araden. And I mean that as a compliment. Utility is important, but we mustn't completely abandon our pride."
"I dislike going back through the maze so soon, given what happened. Let's enter the fog wall first and see what happens."
