The party takes a long rest, waiting for their friend to return to life. Multiple hours pass and indeed, a gust of wind brings ashes to the corner of the room, which reform to the shape of Araden. He seems no worse for wear, thanks to the Order of the Sheep.
Do you guys seriously want to wait until Pahleg regains his spell slots? It's been about 7 hours since he last prepared spells, so it'll take a long time.)

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

"Araden, welcome back. What can we expect on the other side?"
Once Araden recounts his attempt, Ulrich thinks for a moment.
"What if we took myself, Kekkle, Tannan and Pahleg? Kekkle and Tannan will focus on hunting down the Preacher, I will absorb the assault of the skeletons while Pahleg uses the might of his faith against the undead or to keep us healthy. We attempt to stay together as much as possible to avoid being overwhelmed... perhaps we should acquire another mace and a shield for you, Pahleg, as your spear may not be as helpful in this circumstance."
I can live without Pahleg's spells if we just want to roll in there again. I'll take my estus flask back- and I do think it may be wise to raise Pahleg's AC with a shield for this encounter.

Araden the Wanderer |

"If a close-range bludgeon is needed, I can offer mine own." Araden pulls his morningstar from its hanger and offers it to Pahleg. "I also have the flask--unused, as well. There was little opportunity for it when I was in the fight." The knight hands back the flask as well. His voice and posture make it clear he's disappointed and perhaps somewhat ashamed to have lost the battle--and without even engaging the true threat.

GM MG |

With that said, the team of four enters the Librarium through the fog wall.
Just like Araden told them, there is a human-looking man sitting at a large table with two skeletons.
"More have found their way here. I take it you knew the man-at-arms, just a while ago? If you are anything like him, it means you understand nothing of your fate."
"It needn't be that way. Even a simpleton can learn, about the message of the Miraclemaker." He gestures towards the open book on the table.
"Or do you simply wish to roam more, like a roamer does? I have no reason to stop you if it's the sea you seek. Do you see that door?" He motions behind him, and indeed there is a double door at the end of the library. "Go on, and be done with it."

Ulrich of Ravensmount |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Ulrich swipes the open book to the floor with his mace. Then he strikes one of the seated skeletons.
"We come with an even simpler message. Let us share it with you."

GM MG |

Words are not minced.

Round 1

Tannan Valdri |

Tannan, his nerves on edge, is able to react before the skeletons. He decides to wait for the others to go.
Delay until Kekkle, Ulrich, and Pahleg go. They can do more damage than myself to the skeletons.

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

Ulrich beats at the nearest skeleton, leaving it to Kekkle and Tannan to press the Preacher.
Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 201d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Pahleg |

Pahleg raises his arms and a burst of radiant light comes forth from him, but instead of filling his allies with vigor it reaps destruction amongst the unliving.
Channel Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4) + 3 = 9
DC 13 will save for half damage. Channel resistance does not apply if they have it. Fear the sun domain.

Kekkle Smoughbon |

Kekkle moves past the skeleton while Ulrich has it occupied. With a quick hop:
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 Enough for 4 ft, moving to H5
He quickly walks across the tables surface, knocking over books and papers as he goes. He gets close to the preacher and slashes with his empowered scimitar.
Standard to attack. Fort save or 1 STR (DC 13) damage. If the preacher is undead the effects are different.
Scimitar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Chill Touch: 1d6 ⇒ 6

GM MG |

Once the fighting begins, the floor starts tilting for a second, or so it feels to the library team. When the nauseous feeling passes, the Librarium seems to have expanded, at least doubled in area. Just like Araden said it was.

Round 1
Kekkle leaps on the table, dashing across it. He slashes the scholar from the high ground, delivering a spell with it. Fort plus ?: 1d20 ⇒ 10 The scimitar cuts into him, and the scholar shivers in pain.
Ulrich walks to the nearest skeleton and knocks its left arm off. He swipes the open book to the floor, and delivers a stoic one-liner. (You get a +1 bonus to your next Intimidate check to demoralize. Damn son.)
Pahleg raises his arms and a burst of radiant light comes forth from him, the sun's wrath bequeathing destruction to the undead.
Will (Up): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Will (Down): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The skeleton Ulrich just hit is destroyed, and the other is severely damaged.
(Tannan, you're up.)

Tannan Valdri |

Tannan, quite happy that his decision to wait has aided him, he moves forward next to the skeleton and tries to punch at it with his cestus.

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

Ulrich takes off between the bookshelves in pursuit of the Preacher.
"Spread out, we need to pin him down!"
He runs through the corridor of bookshelves. Double move to R5.
Perception check in case of nasty surprises in the stacks: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6

Tannan Valdri |

Tannan, follows suit. He moevs forward, trying to find a way through all the bookshelves in hopes to get behind the annoying preacher.
Double move:N7-O8-S8. Straight, then diagonal then straight forward again

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

Kekkle will double move to S5, next to where Ulrich winds up. Pahleg double moves to K7 around the table.

Kekkle chases after the preacher, as does Ulrich.
Pahleg follows a little bit behind.
Tannan takes a different route between two bookshelves. He sees the scholar a little ahead of him, even though the others were supposed to corner him on the other side of the bookshelf.
Meanwhile, the third skeleton sets its gaze on Ulrich, and attempts to claw him.
Claw 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Claw 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
The skeleton's undead claws pierce through Ulrich's breastplate, cutting to his side.
The scholar who got a taste of Kekkle's scimitar continues running away, retreating to a corner. (Withdraw, but Kekkle gets an AoO.)
The scholar who Tannan just spotted gives a quick look at Tannan, and runs in the opposite direction.
Another skeleton emerges from the floor.
Round 3

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

"Gah! Nuisance!"
Ulrich strikes the skeleton that scratched him.
Heavy mace: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Probably not, but I think Pahleg could finish him. I don't know if it's threatening Kekkle though, you might be able to corner him.

Kekkle Smoughbon |

Kekkle continues to chase down the Preacher that they had seen when they entered the Librarium. He swings his scimitar but only manages to take a chunk out of the nearby bookshelf.
Move to V4. Standard to attack

Ulrich strikes the skeleton that wounded him, knocking off a few rib bones.
Kekkle continues to chase down the preacher he attacked previously, but his scimitar hits the bookshelf.
Pahleg follows after Tannan.
Tannan moves up and punches at the skeleton that just appeared. The skeleton resists the attack.
The skeleton next to Ulrich attacks him again.

Claw 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
It gets another scratch through the armor.
The other skeleton, meanwhile, attacks Tannan.
Claw 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Claw 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
The attacks underestimate Tannan's evasion.
The scholar who ran away from Kekkle does some bizarre hand movements, and points at Kekkle with his bony arm. ??? plus ???: 1d20 ⇒ 8 Nothing apparent happens, and no magical manifestations appear. (Kekkle can roll Spellcraft, Sense Motive, Knowledge (arcana), or Perception. Only one, and results may vary depending on the skill.)
Meanwhile, the other scholar Tannan just saw goes out of sight, escaping to the rows of bookshelves.
Round 4

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

Ulrich pounds on the skeleton clawing at him.
Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 251d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Crit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Ulrich (Ah, sorry, forgot about your question when I was responding to Kekkle. We roll twice our crits.) pounds the skeleton next to him to bits, destroying it. No kill like overkill: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Kekkle does a flurry of sword and magic attacks to the scholar, causing visible pain to the strange man.
???: 1d20 ⇒ 8
???: 1d20 ⇒ 17
???: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Kekkle realizes that the cornered preacher is not real. He is, in fact, an illusion. And a powerful one at that, as it has been reacting very convincingly to Kekkle's attacks.
Pahleg (can't move to where Tannan is right now, unless he delays to after Tannan) waits for a better opportunity to engage the skeleton.
Tannan rolls around the skeleton, and prepares to punch the skeleton once Pahleg joins in.
Pahleg moves forward to flank. The healer seems to have little experience with the morningstar, and misses. However, his location gives Tannan an edge.
Tannan, with Pahleg in the flank, knocks the skull of the skeleton. It is still standing, but only barely. (By the way, why was there two tumble checks? You moved through V8, V9, and W10.)
The headless skeleton attacks PT: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Pahleg.

Round 5

Tannan Valdri |

I have been fighting defensively this whole battle, except for the first attack I made. Tannan knows he is squishy, and a skeleton can still hurt pretty bad. I understand your concern, but I do play fair, as I would still be taking a total of -1 to my attacks. Also I thought I had to roll 2 tumble as the 2nd and 3rd squares would have provoked via movement? Down (free) them Diagonal (provoke) them Right to end move (provoke)?
Tannan seeing Pahleg fall punches at the skeleton once more.

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

Can I stand in Pahleg's square while he's down? If so- moving 30 feet to V8.
Ulrich's ear twitches as he hears an armor clad cleric hit the floor. He races over and smashes at the skeleton with his mace.
Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 191d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
If he can't stand in the cleric's space, he instead stops at V7 and gives Pahleg a taste of the Estus Flask.
Estus: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Ulrich of Ravensmount |

If Pahleg is back up, Ulrich will move around the melee to T10 to help deal with the skeleton next round. We should avoid spreading out too much, even though I want to hunt him down.

GM MG |

I thought it was assumed we healed before moving on. I'm sorry, I'm just a mess trying to keep up. If you want I can burn some resources or we can just assume I go down.
(It's a reasonable assumption to say that you healed that damage. How much damage did you take from those shield others, and how many channels did you expend to heal them?)

Pahleg |

I apologize everybody for slowing down the game with my bad tracking.
Since Kekkle has 22 hp and I would roughly match his damage, let's call it in the 25 area to be conservative.
Channel: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 5) + 1 = 82d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 6) + 1 = 13
So 4 down, then 18 damage, so I'm at 5 hp now. Again, sorry everybody.
