Since you have two players already, what kind of character's are they playing? I'm thinking a spellcaster of sorts...

One of them is the cleric of Pharasma that posted just above you and the other is mulling over either a fighter or a paladin. His post was the 2nd one in the thread.

My work -- my job -- has taught me otherwise. The gods show themselves in the streets and alleys of Korvosa. Why do some starve while others get fat and rich? How can some get away with murder, and others pay the price? These are the things we must study. The will of Pharasma is a thing of great and strange beauty, if we can but grasp her design."

Looking good! I'll go over it with a finer tooth comb soon, but at first glance, you look all set.

Alright folks, I think that I am going to stop taking submissions at 4pm EST today. If you've posted a concept (doesn't have to be a full character)before then, it will be considered for the game. I've got a busy night tonight, so I'll do the choosing tomorrow morning sometime. At that point, we can move character creation and background stuff over to the discussion thread.

I'll have a paladin of Saerenrae up tonight. Are we using feats?

James Keegan wrote:

Yessir! Humans also have the feat option at 1st level available to them.

I think i will throw in a dual wielding fighter (going for battle master)

So...f I am playing subdued fighter/caster type in Kirth's game maybe I could go for crazy gnome in yours?

Jam what do you think about the Artificer? Unearthed Arcana? Obviously its playtest so if we need to tweak I am good but I was thinking about making one as a rock gnome...

Alright, I've looked this over and it seems very flavorful. Were you thinking Alchemist or Gunsmith? Not sure how well guns will fit into the campaign really.

Dark Archive

Alright! =D

Just to round out the concept, Orion the Hunter makes his living harvesting wild game and rare roots in the wilderness, selling much of his game in the teaming city markets.

Of late he's started taking on special assignments for Field Marshal Kressida Croft, skulking quietly about the back-alleys and roof-tops in the seedier parts of the city, helping the "regular" guard keep the peace.

He's started spending more and more time on assignment for the guard, but swears that he's just doing it until the game in the forests thicken up a bit. Speculation that he's doing it for regular pay and the chance to spend every night in a warm bed under a dry roof are as yet unfounded. ;)

Hi, I'm interested! I am experienced with 5e and I have always thought CotCT seemed like a really great AP.

My character idea is a half-elf wizard, who has the "drop-out" background from the players guide. She was the illegitimate child of a minor nobleman (who had an affair with an elf woman), who was sent off to a boarding school as a child and developed a talent/passion for magic. She then became a student at the Academae, but after Gaedren Lamm got her falsely accused of murder she had to drop out and her father cut her off (previously he was funding her studies in a distant sort of way). So she's used to a fairly comfortable lifestyle and is now in a position where she has no money to continue studying wizardry. She would easily fall in with the party and their efforts at helping keep peace in Korvosa because she's lived in the city her whole life and is rather directionless at the moment.

Mechanically, she would have the Sage background and I would probably choose Conjuration as her school since it seems like the Academae specializes in that.

I can have a more complete character sheet up soon, but wanted to put the idea forward before that deadline.

Vrog Skyreaver: I should have been more clear, I meant WotC related books. However, I found the book that you were referring to and I actually like Canny Defense quite a bit. Go ahead and use it.

In fact...

Elegad Espris: Just below the Canny Defense style is this one:

Pugilist Your unarmed strike now deals 1d4 bludgeoning
damage. While taking an Attack action you may make
an unarmed attack as a bonus action. If you take the Tavern
Brawler feat your unarmed strikes deal 1d6 damage.

I believe that your original build was a Fighter. If you wanted to take that as your style, I would have no problems with it.

More to come when I get a spare moment...

Excellent!

Sure it's not first level, but only because thematically the Barbarian's abilities fit the characters lifestyle more, but level 2 is good enough!

Thanks Jam and Vrog. It took me a little while to find the source for this, but then I saw Arcanis and downloaded it.

Gonna come in with a bard... Checks clock...

Just made it! Cut off begins now. I'm not likely to have any time tonight so I'll be going over things in the morning.

DM Jam wrote:
Arknight: Take a look in the players guide at the Acadamae section. Maybe your street urchin attempted to break in there?

Tha's fitting right in. :) I'm thinking he and a couple others broke in, tried to steal something they thought would bring them a fortune and it turned out to be a book. The others ran, but Feras became fascinated and began studying the book. When he was caught by the wizard, he grabbed something nearby to throw so he could escape, and it released a burst of ennergies that knocked him out. Turns out the object only reacted that way for those with Arcane promise.

I do have a concept question. I'm thinking he might see knowledge as power. As such, I found this in an Unearthed Arcana article about wizards. Would you allow the Lore Master Tradition?

When you say cut off, does that mean no more submitted characters, or can I still submit one before tomorrow as I inquired in the thread earlier?

The Exchange

Fie being on PST!

Well if you are still willing to consider the Artificier Rock Gnome I would love to play it. Animated and affable tinkerer who mostly uses magic to blow stuff up but loves to read dusty tomes in his down time.

If, as is, it too mugh of a hassle...I don't have time to submit another idea. ;p

@Inxpitter - You might be in luck.

Ideal: Noble Obligation - It is my duty to protect and care for the people beneath me

Bond: The common folk must see me as a hero of the people.

Flaw: I must keep my vigilante activities hidden at all costs.

History: Cordin was born the son if an exiled Elven priest and a merchant princess. His parents amassed a considerable fortune in Magnimar running caravans and supporting tradesfolk and creative types.

For Cordin, everything changed the day of his 12th birthday, when his parents were taking him to the theater to see a play about his hero, Blackjack, when their carriage studdenly came to a stop. His father stuck his head out of the carriage to see what was going on and had his throat slit for his trouble. His mother was stabbed through the head while she was screaming. Cordin doesn't remember running, but he wound up being tackled by a constable, who took him home and left him with the family servant.

After the funeral, Cordin was sitting and trying to decide what to do with his life when he happened to see the playbill for the play his parents were taking him to. The one about the vigilante.

It was at that moment that his course was set. He devoted a great deal of his time over the next decade to two things: Travelling the world training to take on his role as a vigilante, and locating the person who had killed his parents.

It was only just recently that he managed to discover that Gaedrin Lamm, a thief and killer, had been the one responsible for his parent's death. Cordin made his way to Korvosa under the pretense of setting up a caravan between Magnimar and Korvosa for his company, Kainen Shipping (Kainen was his mother's maiden name).

I realised I never did finish Elegad's story. I got to a stage where I just bullet pointed the rest all those years back, so I've just updated it all. It can be read in 5-10 minutes and looks longer than it reads, but the short of it is this:

* Elegad is currently living on the streets (Urchin background).
* His adoptive mother Esther (who died long ago) was married to her husband Derik.
* Derik once worked at and owned the Fishery until it was forcibly removed from him.
* Lamm was a symbol of false hope for Elegad, getting him on Shiver and coercing him into committing petty crimes.
* Elegad is out for Lamm's blood due to his very personal grudge against him.
* Elegad's mother Talia approached the Mierani Enclave at 18 and had relations at Perishial's Broffle.
* His father is an Elven Broffle worker that he's never met, having known nothing about him.
* Elegad wishes to one day take to the skies on a Hippogriff, in the hope of becoming a Sable Company Marine.
* He wishes to achieve the fame of Blackjack, only without the mask, to improve the reputation of all Half-Elves and make his deceased adoptive relatives proud.
* Once a deal of fame has been achieved, he'll take on the moniker "The Crimson Crusader".
* Red, specifically the hue of Crimson, is his favourite colour.

His fighting style revolves around survivability and free-hand fighting, so he'll be all about hand to hand combat, grappling, being able to take a hit, high hit points and good defenses, putting him primarily as a Barbarian with multiple Fighter levels and a couple of handy feats (Tavern Brawler and things like Resilient etc). Anything he comes across and is allowed, he'll keep, forcing his character and fighting style to develop with the story.

Hopefully my passion for this character shines through, but I do apologise in advance for the long backstory.

He's pretty deep and built entirely for this campaign. Hopefully I'll get the chance to play with you all! :)

My paladin PC is ready to roll, I believe. Praise the Sun!

Praise the sun! I don't want to see you go hollow.

I think I'm going to go with the former Lamm employee, who maybe committed a murder for Lamm, but has now gone straight, and become an ex Pesh addict. I'm fighting a head cold, but will get a profile made this weekend.

A bit late, but the magic user I promised is mostly finished. I present Serephine Eldara. She is a Fire Draconic Bloodline Sorceror who uses charm to get her way before resorting to fire.

There's usually fire.

I have her set up without connection to the first enemy, but that can easily be changed.

I also have an interest in using the Unearthed Arcana Phoenix Sorcery if you'd allow that. It has more going for the fire theme, and also some interesting advantages and disadvantages. But if that's not cool, I understand.

I'll post something in a few hours assuming that the comment about the cut off is flexible.

Looking over things now and will try to make a decision soon. Lots of great submissions here. This is going to be tough. Really not looking forward to it honestly..

I know the feeling! You've got a lot of flavourful text ahead of you! I summarised my main points above just in case you didn't have time to read it all, but tbh, the story is so much better than the summary, haha.

Rutger is the breathing example of poachers making the best groundskeepers, or in other words, setting a thief to catch a thief. Rutger is a perfect undercover member of the city watch. He speaks the cant of the street, knows the city lurks and even has his own informant. He specialises in being in the right place and the right time to overhear or watch important events, whether it be catching on to a Fence who is about to take delivery of a large amount of stolen goods, or the latest dealer of Shiver.

He is jaded and cynical but he is loyal to his city and in particular loyal to the City Watch and has no hesitation of putting himself on the line to save them from a dangerous situation - hopefully not blowing his cover in the process. He has a well developed set of social skills and is adept at persuading others to spill their secrets or lie his way out of trouble.

He learned his professional skills as much on the streets from the very people he is informing on as much as from the city itself who have invested in making sure that he can credibly pass as a criminal.

Alright, I've got to just rip the adhesive medical strip off and just do this. I wish I had the time to run a second table so we could get everyone gaming and using their ideas, but I just don't have the time unfortunately.

James Keegan- Saulden Solanus: Human Paladin of Sarenrae
Kirth Gerson- Paddy O'Donnegal: Human Cleric of Pharasma
CaptainCortez- Elegad Espris: Half Elf Barbarian
Atlas 2112- Orion the Hunter: Human(?) UA Ranger
Archdevil- (Name?) Wizard and ex Acadamae Student
scranford- Red Feather: Shoanti Druid

For the folks that didn't get in, I really, really appreciate your interest and the time that you took to come up with character and cool ideas. These PBP games do tend to have turnover as real life happens though. If it's okay with you all, I'll keep your characters in mind if we get people dropping out.

For the folks that got in, I'll get a discussion thread up soon!
