Darkvision:
Three figures come into view. They are Large, hoofed quadrupeds with very large horns mounting their heads and light brown fur.

DC 10 Kn: Nature and Darkvision:
These animals are Elk, native creatures to the plains, forests, and more mountainous regions of Restov and its surrounding areas. They are generally nonviolent herbivores and generally favor running away to combat.

DC 8 Sense Motive and Darkvision:
These creatures obviously bear no hostile intention towards you.

Those of you without Darkvision still see nothing, but continue to hear the approaching footfalls.

Unaccostomed to life in the forest, Morgrym does not recognize the strange creatures. However, he knows enough to realize they don't seem to pose a threat to the group. He scans around the camp site one last time and, failing to see anything else, passes the word of a false alarm.

Aerynne automatically passes a DC 10 Knowledge (Nature) check, even on a 1.

"... A false alarm...?" Aerynne sighs, partly out of irritation from her sleep being interrupted, and partly out of relief that the invaders were nothing dangerous. "Teuivae," she mumbles, causing her pendant to yet again glow with the colour of moonlight, before moving forward through the darkness towards where she heard the approaching footfalls until she spots their 'assailants'.

She then groans, shaking her head, and promptly throws herself back onto her bedroll. She leaves her still-loaded crossbow beside her bed this time, though.

"... Elk. They're elk, Morgrym," Aerynne says dryly, her voice slightly muffled from within her pillow. "They're harmless."

Seeing Aerynne's light illuminate the elk, he is finally able to put a visual to the sound. Ah, right. That makes sense. Gerran makes his way back to his spot in camp and begins to settle in once more. "It's a shame, of course, that they didn't arrive several hours ago, and that we are already fed. Still, I expect that leaving these to forage now might yield greater returns in the future."

Marius, having risen and taken a spot several paces behind Morgrym, aims two fingers at the darkness and readies a spell to cast. On the revelation of the identity of the night prowlers, he sighs and returns to his bedroll. "I am glad of your alertness, Morgrym, regardless of the results this night." he says. "These lands are dangerous and I'd rather be awoken to a herd of Elk than to the inside of a Troll's gullet."

GM

The rest of the night passes uneventfully. The morning sun rises several hours later. The dew glistens off of the grass as your party awakes, has their morning meal, and prepares their selves and magic for the day.

It's not long before you break camp and continue heading southwest. As you go forward, however, you notice something strange. To your left, there are a number of white objects strewn about a specific portion of the plain. It's too far to make out what they are from this distance, and the objects are too far off your current path to get a better look from your current trajectory toward the bandits.

Before setting out, Aerynne makes sure to summon Cadeyrn back to her side. The ritual involves a rather complex summoning circle scratched out in the dirt, the lines of which quickly fill with brilliant green energy before the fey-wolf materialises within. Cadeyrn yawns and stretches as he steps back into this world before nuzzling Aerynne affectionately.

---

During their journey, Aerynne looks over at the strange white objects, frowning when she cannot make out what exactly they are. "How about we check these out after we deal with the bandits?" She asks the group. "They might be those moon radishes that Svetlana was talking about."

If the group agrees to come back later, Aerynne will quickly write a note in her journal about the relative location of the white objects before galloping to catch up with the rest of the group.

Male Catfolk Ranger (Skirmisher) 2 [ HP 22/22 | AC 19/13/16 | Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +1 | Init +3 | Perception +8 (+2 vs. Humans) ]

Gerran nods at Aerynne's assessment. "I agree. For now, though, we have bigger goals."

GM

You ride past the white objects, marking their position on your maps and in your minds.

As your path takes you further southwest, you notice that the terrain begins to change. The relatively solid and flat plains turn instead to hills and swampy valleys. Your progress is slowed by the effort of dealing with these new challenges. Upward and downward slopes prove challenging to your steeds, and the swamps, though shallow, prove to be equally as cumbersome to traverse.

About six hours have passed. It is now early afternoon. The sun has begun to slowly leave its zenith, and the wind blows a pleasant breeze across your faces and the flanks of your horses. A large rocky outcropping rises to the east, its craggy appearance markedly different than the rest of the environment.

Make a DC 17 Perception Check:
There is rustling in the large patch of shrubbery that the party is approaching. It sounds like an animal, and a big one too!

The half-elf fetches her crossbow and loads it, aiming the weapon into the shrubbery. "Maybe we should try and scare it out of the bushes?" She says quietly. "Either that, or I can send Cadeyrn in to investigate."

Aerynne looks to Gerran, knowing he was the most 'bushy' of the group, although keeps her weapon trained on the animal. "Maybe we can try and calm it down? It probably just thinks we're trying to invade its territory or something." She then deftly jumps off of Brambles and carefully approaches, although remains at a safe distance, ready to fire if it should attack them. Cadeyrn moves in front of his master, watching for signs of danger.

Arrows and bolts bounce off of the creature's tough hide, and Morgrym's melee attempt produces no effect as the blade fails to pierce its fur. The bullet and bite, however, are far more effective.

Scrap's projectile successfully lodges itself in the thylacine's flank, while Caderyn's jaws sink into the beast's leg. The creature bays in pain, and quickly retaliates against the eidolon... to no avail. The Thylacine's jaws miss its target completely.

With Morgrym and Wallop's damage rolls, I am going to assume the thylacine is dead!

With the dwarf and halfling laying the pain down upon the poor thylacine, Aerynne lowers her weapon, sure that it would not survive. If it does, she'll happily let it escape, hoping it would yet live another day.

GM

The thylacine falls from the multiple, powerful, simultaneous blows. It's death-yelp is somewhat haunting, but leaves no lasting effect upon you.

The battle was decided in a few mere seconds, and has brought no major impediment to your journey. You move westward, and begin to see in front of you what you can only assume to be the Thorn River where you were told the bandit camp had been pitched. Indeed, you can see a watchtower peeking through the treetops as you travel, the terrain becoming more and more forested.

For now, the trees hide your passage, but the camp ahead seems to lie in a clearing...

Aerynne dismounts a good distance from the camp, securing Bramble to a tree in an area behind enough vegetation to make her difficult to spot from the watch tower.

"I think a couple of us should scout quietly ahead... try get a look at what they're doing and formulate a plan from there. If we can take any of the bandits out quickly and quietly before the rest notice, I think we should."

"Cadeyrn has a strong sense of smell and hearing, and he's pretty sneaky as well. Plus, from a distance, they might mistake him for a wolf and pay him no heed. He'd be happy to help scout out the camp." The feywolf nods his agreement from beside his summoner. "I can also cast a spell on those who go scouting... it will allow you to communicate with me from a moderate distance simply by whispering. The forest winds will carry your words to me. If you get into any trouble, we'll be able to alert everyone that way."

Aerynne looks around the group seriously, completely devoid of her usual easygoing expression. "Have I forgotten anything important?"

Male Dwarf Stonelord Paladin Level 2 (AC: 20 Init+1 Prcptn+2 Crrnt HP 19)

Before Gerran leaves, Aerynne lightly touches him on the shoulder, mumbling a spell in Sylvan. The catfolk feels a mysterious zephyr brush over his body and tousle his hair and fur after Aerynne finishes casting the spell. "Provided you're within about a hundred feet of me, you can whisper a message and I'll be able to hear it and respond."

Cadeyrn follows after Gerran, sneaking around the camp and peeking through the foliage to get a good look at the bandits. Aerynne remains back with the rest of the group, although if either Cadeyrn or Gerran seems likely to move further than 100 feet away she will move closer to them.

GM

Scraps can retrieve her bullets.

Gerran and Cadeyrn move move to the edge of the forest (about forty feet away from the group's current position) and peer into the clearing. They see two paths from here, a well-traveled road, and a small forest path intertwined with trees. The road leads directly into the clearing, while the trail seems more circuitous.

Which way will Cadeyrn and Gerran go?

Male Catfolk Ranger (Skirmisher) 2 [ HP 22/22 | AC 19/13/16 | Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +1 | Init +3 | Perception +8 (+2 vs. Humans) ]

Gerran's gonna head down the circuitous path. If there are trees that are tall enough for him to get a better look at how many bandits there are, or where they're located, he'll climb them, taking 10 with his racial climb bonus.

Cadeyrn will also take the trail, although if possible he'll sneak closer to the camp through the undergrowth. He'll rely on his scent ability to try and track down any bandits near the perimeter of the camp and also try and get an idea of the camp's layout.

GM

I'm not going to put the result of this one in a spoiler, as the result is very pivotal to what happens next. Gerran and Caderyn, make a DC 15 Perception check.

Gerran and Cadeyrn follow the path, reaching a the clearing by going through the woods. Through the trees, they can see five people sitting on logs around a currently inactive campfire. Four men and one woman sit, looking bored, as though waiting for something.

I have also changed the map in roll20

Welcome back stumpy! Yeah what Aerynne said. Play what you want and the rest will work itself out. That being said,if you want to play a cleric, go for it. Personally,I've found players who like their characters, trend's to play them better than those who do not.

Personally,I avoid playing arcane casters.

I do like this group though. I also like the dynamics that have evolved between us.

Male Catfolk Ranger (Skirmisher) 2 [ HP 22/22 | AC 19/13/16 | Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +1 | Init +3 | Perception +8 (+2 vs. Humans) ]

I'm hoping that Tassadan is just taking his time...? I enjoy the group as well.

Goblin 1 Gunslinger (musket master/bushwacker) HP 20/20, AC 18/16/14, Saves 5/7/2, Musket +8, 1d10, Init +6, Percept +10

I check in every day but only need to write something about once a week. I've not given up yet, but it definitely has that...not going much further feeling to it.

I have finals in three weeks. Pass or fail out of school. I will be here every 1-2 days to see what's going on but won't post unless I need to.

GM

Sorry guys, I'm trying to keep up, but things are a little tough at the moment. I got hit with a combo of flu/tonsillitis, so I've been basically sleeping all day and catching up on work so that I don't become unemployed. I agree that the game has slowed down, but it's hard to balance real life sometimes. Believe me, while the game may slow it will not die. That I can assure you.

You have no idea how thrilled I am to hear that. Hope you get better/stay employed...:-)

anyone know why paizo will leave me 'signed in' for weeks on end and then all of a sudden I am not signed in? It's weird because you don't get campaign updates when you are not signed in.

GM

Yeah, Paizo's not the most stable of websites. Also, letting you guys know that I'm starting work at a new location, so the next few days I'm going to be moving around and may not have time to post. Will let you know what new schedule allows.

Male Dwarf Stonelord Paladin Level 2 (AC: 20 Init+1 Prcptn+2 Crrnt HP 19)

Hey, sorry I've been missing. Storms took out my internet.

GM

No prob. My posting will be erratic as stated earlier as well, so no harm done.

GM

Just letting you guys know that I'm still here and will post as soon as possible. Some factors have conspired against me to make me egregiously behind on work, so I have yet to find time to post. The campaign shall never die, but I gotta make dolla dolla bills, y'all.

Good morning folks. Just checking in and posting to let you know I'm still active. Also a bit of a shameless self plug too I suppose. This is a project I've been working on for over a year now and we are almost ready to release the first 6 episodes of our new web series. If you have 2 minutes to spare, please check out our trailer on Youtube.

When I'm not teaching, coaching, or cooking, this is what I do Web Series Trailer

Male Human Wizard 2

Cool. I'll have a web series to post soon too! Just one episode completed so far. Here's our trailer. I play the Wizard. Funny that...

Cool stuff, both of you!

(Halfling Barb 1/Fighter 1): AC: 18 (15) // HP: 19/22 +2 // Perc: +2 //Rage 6/6

That looks fun Marius. It kind of reminds me of Standard Action a bit. When do you plan on releasing episode 1?

Male Human Wizard 2

They just finished it so it's supposed to be soon.

(Halfling Barb 1/Fighter 1): AC: 18 (15) // HP: 19/22 +2 // Perc: +2 //Rage 6/6

So you will be shooting an episode then releasing it right away? Man, we discussed, pondered, puzzled, and argued over that very point for weeks.

We finally all agreed to shoot the first 6 episodes and have them edited and ready for release at regular intervals. That will give us a cushion to shoot the last 6 episodes without the time pressures. Heck, we all have full time jobs after all.

Anyways, keep me posted. I'd like to follow the story.

Male Human Wizard 2

Nah, we shot the first episode back in the fall. It's just now they're getting the original music for the episode finished. We have two more episodes shot, but probably won't get to film any more until November due to issues surrounding our shooting location. I think they want to get what we have done out there now - just the first episode - and then do a full release of all three episodes later.

Male Dwarf Stonelord Paladin Level 2 (AC: 20 Init+1 Prcptn+2 Crrnt HP 19)

Well, I was actually checking in to announce my resignation since my work has gotten crazy busy (the whole management level has been working weekends for the past month) but it seems everyone else is in a similar boat. Guess we will all just ride it out and see how things work. I'll keep checking in as often as I can.

Male Catfolk Ranger (Skirmisher) 2 [ HP 22/22 | AC 19/13/16 | Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +1 | Init +3 | Perception +8 (+2 vs. Humans) ]

I'll be honest with ya - I'm perfectly happy taking this slow. I like the group, characters, and everything else, and (since I'm on here anyway for other PbP's I'm in) I'm constantly checking for new posts. The beauty of PbP is just that - we get to go at whatever pace we need to, as RL demands come and go.

This, of course, assumes that the rest of you are okay with this pace as well - if not, feel free to let the rest of us know, and we can discuss how to handle it (whether that means more RP posts that don't require a lot of GM interaction, or...whatever other options there are...:-P).

Male Human Wizard 2

I keep checking in

(Halfling Barb 1/Fighter 1): AC: 18 (15) // HP: 19/22 +2 // Perc: +2 //Rage 6/6

To be honest, I too like the characters and the story we have going. I'd like a faster pace but I'm willing to slow it down a bit if need be.

Male Human Wizard 2

I'm going to be out of town from Tuesday until Friday next week and will have no internet then, so no posts from me.

(Halfling Barb 1/Fighter 1): AC: 18 (15) // HP: 19/22 +2 // Perc: +2 //Rage 6/6

Still checking in regularly. I want to take out those Mites!!

Marius, please let me know when episode 1 for your web series is posted. I'd like to watch it. Ours is finally available ....

Still here, and plan to be for the foreseeable future. Again, this isn't my only PbP, so I check my campaigns page several times a day, most days.

Male Human Wizard 2

I'm in a rather obscene number of them at the moment myself... >.>

(Halfling Barb 1/Fighter 1): AC: 18 (15) // HP: 19/22 +2 // Perc: +2 //Rage 6/6

All of my PBP games went catatonic at exactly the same time. So while I WAS in a few of them, now I am not in any that are functional. My only fix is my weekly table top game at the moment.

Male Catfolk Ranger (Skirmisher) 2 [ HP 22/22 | AC 19/13/16 | Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +1 | Init +3 | Perception +8 (+2 vs. Humans) ]

Oh, that sucks Wallop!

Two of mine went belly-up at the same time, and a third is very irregular on updates, but I play in a bunch of PFS games (and run some of my own) and they rarely wind up dying, so I'm not often out of a game.

Clearly this means you've just gotta browse Recruitment more often. :)

I am currently working on getting into a Dragonlance game as a gully dwarf cleric. The dm is being kind of punitive on the racial stats though as he wants a total of -10 on my stats with only giving 4 back. -2 str, -4 int, -4 cha and only +2 to dex and con. The game is starting out rough.

Goblin 1 Gunslinger (musket master/bushwacker) HP 20/20, AC 18/16/14, Saves 5/7/2, Musket +8, 1d10, Init +6, Percept +10

I notice the number of messages in this post when I go to post in my active game and so will see if there are any posts in the gameplay thread.

I don't think our DM is returning. I find it disappointing when they just disappear without at least coming on to say something. Group applications are so competitive that I usually put between six and ten hours into making a character. I think we at least deserve a notice that the DM is bowing out.

It's been so long now that I've pretty much lost that excitement I had over playing Scraps and I'm not sure what I would do if he returned at this point. It's a real shame because you guys certainly don't deserve to be forgotten.

I'm sorry that things are working out this way as I enjoyed playing with each of you. I will of course keep an eye on these threads and will definitely pop in if a significant number of posts show up in the gameplay thread.

Male Human Wizard 2

On a lighter note, here's episode 1 of the webseries I'm in made by a bunch of friends of mine. I play the Wizard. It's sort of Order of the Stick meets Cheers. It's the first episode and we're all still figuring out what works, but I think we did alright. :)
