Background:

Family:The only child of Teena and Waldo Fey.

Appearance: Wallop is a mere 2'9" tall and weighs only 42 lbs with auburn hair and a youthful almost childlike face. He is considered small for a halfling and could easily be mistaken for a human child of 3-5 years of age. The enslaved halfling children in the vineyard were employed as grape stompers in the half barrels (or "dance floors" as the slaves called them). Though he is no longer a slave, Wallop has maintained the daily ritual of shaving the hair from his halfling feet; which are permanently stained purple from the grapes.

Personality: Despite growing up a slave, Wallop has a very cheerful demeanor and a sunny disposition. He is quick with a joke and loves to play pranks on those he considers friends. On the winery where he grew up it was often said that "if Wallop aint teasing ya, he don't like ya." He is fiercely loyal to those who have earned membership into his circle of trust and would do just about anything to protect them. I know you are probably saying that "this personality doesn't sound like a barbarian at all", but see below for details.

Likes: Similar to most of his race, Wallop loves mealtime. However, for Wallop, the joy of a good meal comes not from the fine foods, but rather from the camaraderie enjoyed while sharing it. "No meal should be eaten alone." his father used to say and this on some unconscious level has always stuck with the halfling. Growing up on a Chelaxian winery, Wallop became something of a connoisseur of fine drink. Their slave masters only allowed the halfling slaves to drink the dregs and leavings of the wine they produced but the adept Fey family found ways to secretly brew their own wines and ales which in many respects rivaled or even surpassed that of the vineyard in which they worked. They were exceedingly careful not to let the masters know of this secret and all enjoyed the fruits of this endeavor. The Fey family even managed to sell this wine secretly "out the back door" and because of its high quality and low production it became very valuable on the black market. To this day, a bottle with the Fey 'family crest' (a pixie peeking out from behind a bunch of grapes) is a prized addition to any collector's wine cellar. As a side note, Wallop and the entire Fey clan are devout followers of Cayden Cailean. It seemed appropriate for a family of halfling brew masters I think.

Health: In most regards, Wallop was a very healthy young halfling. He was very strong and agile and could run faster than any other halfling; adult or child. However, as an young boy he took a fever and lost consciousness for over a week. As a slave, the slave masters denied him even rudimentary medical attention nor would they allow his mother or father to cease their regular duties in the vineyard to care for the sick Wallop. They essentially left the boy for dead. His mother would sneak away from the fields and have the other hands cover for her while she crept back to their home to tend to the boy. One day, owing to a miracle or perhaps his incredible constitution, the boy started showing signs of recovery. The fever broke and he regained consciousness. Sadly, that was right about the time the slave lords found Teena missing. They found her tending the boy as he woke from his coma and they dragged her to the dog pits and was unceremoniously tossed in as an example to the others of what insubordination would cost them. The deathly ill Wallop was forced to watch as his mother was torn to shreds. The stress of this event has left a permanent mark on the boys otherwise indomitable spirit. From that day onward, in times of stress or duress, Wallop would lose control of himself and he would fly into a violent rage. This was a very unhealthy disposition to have as a slave and Wallop became very adept at keeping the fits of rage at bay; or at the very least focusing it away from the slave masters.

Freedom: Freedom for Wallop was not bought with cash but with sorrow instead. A group of halfling freedom fighters assaulted the vineyard and surrounding areas to free slaves from their oppression. The fighting was fierce and as the slave lords realized they were losing they started tossing slaves into the dog pits. When Wallop's father was pushed into the pit the young halfling lost it. He went into a fit of rage and jumped onto the back of one of the slave masters and broke his neck with a quick snap. He then grabbed the master's dagger and rammed it into the belly of another slave master before jumping into the pit with the bloody dagger to save Waldo. The remaining slaves took up the mantle and they also jumped the slave masters and started beating them with pots, pans, rocks and sticks. Wallop was hailed as a hero among the few remaining slaves but alas his heroics came too late to save his father who succumbed to his injuries a few days later. The halfling freedom fighters recognized the boy's martial potential and took him as a squire into their ranks and trained him to fight. The boy was a natural and it didn't take long for him to become a full fledged member of the squad. Wallop spent the next several years freeing other slaves and honing his skills.

Note to DM: I will be splitting Wallop's levels between fighter and barbarian as he grows up. He has come to Brevoy to be a part of the process of building a new kingdom from the ground up; a kingdom without slavery. He has also learned of the sword fighting academies of the Aldori swordlords and wishes to one day train with them.
