No, its actually as simple as adding a template. They critter gets a little moe survivable and depending on its base cr and hd gets a few extra limited use abilities. I think the mythic rules as they stand now are great for dms who need a way to stretch out a single monsters survivability but i don't think that the abilities are really special enough to make them amazing additions to pcs.

But then one of the main problems for challenging 4-6 players has always been the single monster problem. The bear as written could potentially have been 1 shot by Silva again.

i'll post an updated map tonight. If we haven't heard from Arielle before i do i'll assume she's holding her action and move on.

Cleric / 3 (Per:+4, Init+3, HP 18, AC: 14/13/11 F:+3 R:+4 W:+5)

Rolled 2,12,2,1 in four rounds, that's got to be a sign of Erastil's disfavor. Or just the sado-randomizer hates me. ;)

You had some terrible luck Maksim, it didn't help that i was sucking up all the 20's.

How did you like the mythic bear?

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

Nice Challenge. I hope there is mythic treasure to find. :)

Cleric / 3 (Per:+4, Init+3, HP 18, AC: 14/13/11 F:+3 R:+4 W:+5)

It's a better challenge, otherwise the bear would be a cakewalk for most groups at 2nd level. As to treasure, Kingmaker AP is notorious for being treasure light, doubt that changes here.

I was quite happy with the threat the bear posed, shield of faith and full defence certainly saved someones life. Without Silva taking up the beating someone would probably have gone down, perhaps a couple of people.

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

And I got off three heals that were all better than average. I wanted to attack, but not having Precise Shot, even ranged touch attacks were not a sure thing (net -1), so healing seemed the best tactic. I could have burned the bear for 3d4 fire, save for half. But that is an average of 7, save for 3 points of damage - more efficient to heal,

It had energy resist 5 as well tbh Egan, good choice.

If a single target is selected, healing is a good and valid tactic

Paladin of Erastil-3/ Init:+1, Perception:-1, AC:18/11/17, CMD:19, HP:28, Fort:6 (11 vs cold), Ref:4, Will:4

Sorry guys. I posted from my phone and forgot to change aliases.

I've updated the main page with explored hexes, just to clarify do you guys know what "quests" you have left?

Are you still heading south next to deal with the boar? Or do you want to explore the north western woods to make sure Jhod will be safe in his temple hex?

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

I'd be fine with finishing exploring this area to make sure it is safe.

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

Agree. A list of quests in the campaign info tab would be darn handy. :)

We still have to deal with the boar, find a wedding ring, Kill some beast, and something with the Sootscale kobolds. And kill more bandits. I thought I had a list but can't find it.

Kill Tuskgutter
Kill a Taztlwyrm
Recover the wedding ring
Either make peace with or wipe out the kobolds
Kill or capture Falgrim Sneeg
Explore everywhere and make maps

Thats the list... so far.

Cleric / 3 (Per:+4, Init+3, HP 18, AC: 14/13/11 F:+3 R:+4 W:+5)

Three of us can use the CLW wand, who can use it best? I doubt it's Maksim, he's an archer and wants to fight at a distance.

As to what to do? Explore the area is the best I think, get it done and see to the temple's neighbors is a good idea.

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

Then Egan should have it. He is using all his slots that he can do other things with casting CLWs. You can spontaneous heal and you can Channel Maksim, so if its fine with you Egan will carry it for the group.

Ego, thanks for the list. Can you remind me who Falgrim Sneeg is?

The former companion of the guard captain, turned bandit after he ran off with the money. Kesten is offering some mw weapons for him alive or dead.

So, i've slept for 36 hours and been to work to catch up on all the work i didn't do while i had man flu. Now i'm back amd ready to either move us on or if you have anything more to speak to Jhod about before you leave we can do that.

Before Monday lets have a plan formed for what you want to do from the temple, as i see it you can finish exploring the forest or you can head to the south and go after the boar. Just a little heads up for the boar i have a plan for it similar to the bear but it will be focused more on dealing damage than recieving it.

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

I'm figuring on clearing out the encroaching brush, digging a large permanent firepit, making/finding a fairly dry location to keep a store of firewood and kindling and stocking it up. Locating any nearby streams and making sure there is an obvious trail leading to and from the area to it. The reflecting pool water may be fine to drink, but for washing up ourselves and clothing a stream would be better. Plus there may be fish in it to catch for supper. :)

I'd also like to finish exploring this area before we move on. Best to ensure the area is safe for pilgrims to travel to.

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

Sounds good. I will help Arielle with her plans as well as scout out a good place for a future forge for the craftsmen and make that recommendation to Jhod. Will also ask him what else he needs from us, and offer to spread the word of the re-founding of this temple.

Just to clarify this is a couple of days ride from the temple to the north west, so your in the next hex along give or take 12 miles away. The bear taps are also quite hard to remove, its a dc24 str check or a similar escape artist or disable device.

Lucky it was just your mounts, and bloody hell is that one lucky dog or what!

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

Should I change his name? :)

Lucky and well armored. :)

Silva, taking 20 implies that you have enough time amd effort to fail several times before you suceed. I this situation failing to get the jaws from the horses leg would probably kill it from partially resetting and triggering the trap. However enough applications of heqling magic might mitigate that.

Considering I am the strongest and I would need a nat 20. This could get ugly.

Cleric / 3 (Per:+4, Init+3, HP 18, AC: 14/13/11 F:+3 R:+4 W:+5)

Have the traps been sabotaged in some way? Any trap a trapper would use would have a lever or release built in that makes it easy to open. It would require hands and brains to work it but otherwise not be a problem. After all it's unreasonable to have a trapper needing to be a master thief or a Samson to recover their own traps.

Also would using Maksim's shovel as a lever help?

Well, someone can aid another to give you +2 so you would need an 18, and they can take ten on the aid another. However if you do fail by five or less, ie. roll a 13-17 then you would refire the trap and injure the horse further. Handle animal and cures could off set that and using up a few cures to save a pretty expensive horse might be a good plan.

While i was putting the post up i was thinking that it could get quiet expensive, then when i saw Egan roll a low perception i thought if Sparky died he would be heartbroken. But then it was the horses legs or your own so perhaps not all that bad, they always have seemed a little tough to crack for a low level party though. The disable device dc is 20.

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

One problem is we have no one with the skill disable device (or do we?). A DC 20 Disable Device is still not easy, but it should be much easier than a strength check. A second level rogue could easily be as much as +9.

On the strength check maybe a crow bar could also be able to be employed, for +2 IF anyone has a crow bar. ???

Overall though I agree with Maksim, a regular bear trap needs to be able to be reset by a regular NPC level 1 expert. They simply cannot be that hard to reset. Of course struggling panicked animals would not help. Egan stands ready to try to calm and heal the animals. Maybe healing them first will lower the DC to calm them?

If you have a crowbar i'll happily give you a +2 tool bonus, and if you pass a dc20 handle animal check for each horse i'll give you an extra +2 circumstance bonus.

I do agree with Maksim, and you can tell a lot about the personallity of the trapper by his traps. I am sure that there are some trappers who have several traps and only 1 release mechanism, if only to prevent other trappers stealing their catch. The animals caught in the trap are not normally ment to be alive when the trap is opened remember, they are ment to be dead and ready to be skinned.

On a side note a lvl 2 expert (most grown ups are lvl 2) with skill focus disable device (ie someone who deals with traps all the time) could happily have a +10 score with just 14 int, that would allow him to take 10 for something that he does all the time.

As a comparison Anza has +11 survival, but she is a specialist. Perhaps if you quizzed her a little bit and did some poking around you might find a few clues to the identity of your unfriendly trapper.

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

Anza might have the best handle animal check as well. Perhaps we should ask her. Anyone have that crowbar?

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

Can I use acid to dissolve the hinges so that the traps will just fall open?

Cleric / 3 (Per:+4, Init+3, HP 18, AC: 14/13/11 F:+3 R:+4 W:+5)

Never contract the DM. Aw shucks, I contradict you. I don't buy the argument you make. Joe Average Tappper would be a 2nd level commoner with a 10 int and no disable device skill. Every trapper knows how to pick locks? Every trapper is well above average intelligence? I don't think so. My point is that the equipment (traps) used by a trapper would be easy for the trapper to use. People don't like to do more work than they have to. Making a trap that can hold an animal but be easy for a human to open is not that hard. It's like using a computer, few people can hack a computer, that requires a good knowledge of computer programming, but Joe Average Office-Worker can turn it on and get his work done because the computer is built to be easy for him to use. As for the trap being hard for other trappers to steal the kill, if all trappers have disable device then what good would it do, they could all open it anyway?

If the trap doesn't have an easy way (for humans/humanoids) to open then it's not a bear trap, it's a man-trap. It either was built or modified to hunt humans (etc,) not animals.

Also I asked about the shove to use as a lever, used be suprise and just how much force even a small lever can apply and no Maksim doesn't have a crowbar, too much weight, though it appears we will need to carry one in the future. And none of us are professional thieves. And on to the show.

I disagree with the never contradict the dm. However every person who worked with Devices would at least have some ranks in Disable Device, common sense. A specialist would have more, i think that is logical...

I will give you a +1 for the shovel, however if you fail by less than 5 the trap breaks the shovel.

For the trapper argument do you think that a joe bloggs average trapper would pose a credible threat to adventurers and give you an xp gain? Perhaps this is not just the average trapper, maybe this guy is a bad man who likes to trap everything, not just four legged prey?

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

So best case Silva is gonna need a 16 to get a trap off.

That is +2 from aid another. +1 for the shovel, and +1 from guidance from me. Can more than one person aid the strength roll? Seems logical as more than one can gather around.. ?

I have already rolled a handle animal and failed to get the needed 20. Others should try.

An 11 will cause it to spring again. 55% of the time.

Egan did make the DC20 for Sparky, so I hope that will count as another +2. He will try on the second horse in turn.

For sparky its not an issue as retriggering the trap will only damage the armour.

I apologise for not answering Arielles post about the acid, however from a rules point of view the acid from splash cannot damage the metal due to hardness. If i halved the hardnes it would do one point of damage 1/3 of the time, so call it a day of camping time.

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

Then we can just assume that Arielle tries her plan, but fails. She'd try about any plan they can think of to avoid killing the horses.

Also, I want a pony-sized unicorn for a mount/pet. :)

M Gnome - Alternalte Racial Traie Pryomaniac Oracle of Fire / 3 (Per: +1 Init:+1 HP 21/21 AC: 20/12/18 F: +1 R: +1 W: +2)

Acid should bypass hardness, right? All energy attacks bypass hardness. Hardness only applies to weapons.

Sadly they changed the rules on it, personaly i like to half hardness for acid and negate it for objects weak to the element. Like fire for paper, but its all house rules unfortunately.

I'm going to leave it to you how to proceed.

4 lots of damage if you take 20 on the strength check.
3 lots of damage for Arielles acid splash but it will take a day.
1 lot of damage per fail of five or less if you chose to roll.
Or put the beasts ot of their misery and purchase new ones.

You have the option of using healing to mitigate fails but keep track of it.

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

*sigh*

Guess after a try I'll go with putting them outa their misery too. We may run outa healing spells before we free them.

I apologise if i have disapointted anyone. Normally i find traps disappointing or overly deadly, i hope that the balance of deadly to your possessions has been both saddening and not to frustrating.

Take heart and investigate and you may find purpose as yet.

Cleric / 3 (Per:+4, Init+3, HP 18, AC: 14/13/11 F:+3 R:+4 W:+5)

Sorry Arielle but that's the way I (and Maksim) sees it. Even if we do "save" the horses it would be after hours of extreme pain for them, being hurt-healed-hurt-healed etc. Even if they lived they would have something like PTSD, I doubt they would be much use after. Remember horse are LIVING creatures, subject to many of the same frailtes as us. Maksim is unwilling to be a party to such cruelty, even if the intent was kind.

If you want to prebuff your perception checks with guidance i have no probelm with that, or any other abilities you feel may be useful.

I'll hang about for Silva and Andrej, it is the weekend and we don't normally post a great deal anyway. You know the drill for opening a trap with your aid another and guidance etc, hopefully Maksim won't lose a leg!

Don't worry Arielle, i haven't forgotten you rolled a 9 as well...

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

This might not have been a bad occasion to have been forgotten. :)

Well they didn't crit Maksim and i'm sure Silva will have him out in no time, its really unlikely that he'll lose a leg. I mean theres no rules for it so its pretty safe but if only there were!

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

I'll just hope you don't crit on me.

We've not set up a night watch since the player change, i assume you will have Andrej and Anza on the middle watch so the casters can regain spells with no fuss? Who's on first and last?

Female Changeling (Green Widow) Bard / 1 ||HP: 8, AC: 13/11/13, Saves: W+2/R+4/F+0, CMB/CMD: +2/+14, Init: +2, Perc: +4

Arielle volunteers to watch with Egan. ;)

First or last doesn't matter to her.

Paladin of Erastil-3/ Init:+1, Perception:-1, AC:18/11/17, CMD:19, HP:28, Fort:6 (11 vs cold), Ref:4, Will:4

My perception is terrible so I need someone on watch with me that can see and hear.
